"<keyword id="22683352" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="President-Ratu-Wiliame-Maivalili-Katonivere" source="Orion">President Ratu Wiliame Maivalili Katonivere</keyword> of Fiji conferred the Companion of the Order of Fiji upon President Droupadi <keyword id="19970795" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="murmu" source="keywords">Murmu</keyword>. This is the highest civilian award of Fiji," the President's Office said in a post on X. Murmu, who is on a two-day visit to Fiji, described the honour as "a reflection of the deep ties of friendship" between <keyword id="22683353" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="India-and-Fiji" source="Orion">India and Fiji</keyword>. This is the first visit by an Indian head of state to the archipelago nation. <keyword id="14546690" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="President-Murmu" source="Orion">President Murmu</keyword> also addressed the Fijian Parliament. "As India emerges strongly on the global stage, we stand ready to partner with Fiji, according to your priorities, to build a stronger, resilient, and more prosperous nation. She said that despite the vast difference in size, India and Fiji have much in common, including vibrant democracies. She recalled that almost 10 years ago, speaking in this same Hall, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had underlined some basic values that unite India and Fiji. "These include, 'our democracy, the diversity of our societies, our creed that all human beings are equal, and our commitment to the liberty, dignity and rights of every individual'. These shared values are eternal, and shall continue to guide us ahead," she said. "In my short time here, I can see that the rest of the world has so much to learn from Fiji. The gentle Fijian way of life, the deep-rooted respect for traditions and customs, an open and multicultural environment, makes Fiji so special in an increasingly conflict-ridden world. No wonder, Fiji is the place where the rest of the world comes to find its happiness," she said. She said she was confident that the newly announced projects, including the Super Specialty Cardiology Hospital to be established in Suva, would help to meet the priority needs of the people of Fiji and the wider Pacific region. Earlier, President Murmu was warmly received by President Katonivere at State House where the two leaders discussed ways to deepen the bilateral ties. "At State House, President Droupadi Murmu also witnessed the progress of the 'Solarisation of Heads of State Residences' project, an Indian initiative, which was inaugurated in February last year," her office said in a post on X. From Fiji, Murmu will travel to New Zealand and Timor-Leste. Her six-day three-nation visit aims to take India's Act East Policy forward, according to the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi.

India has announced a credit of $75 million to <keyword id="79116" type="COUNTRY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Fiji">Fiji</keyword> for a power plant and upgrading the island country’s sugar industry. Prime Minister <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword> announced this after meeting his Fijian counterpart <keyword id="134463" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Frank-Bainimarama">Frank Bainimarama</keyword>. Modi also announced ‘visa on arrival’ for Fiji citizens. 
 
Modi reached there on the third and final leg of his 10-day three-nation tour. This is the first visit to the country by an Indian Prime Minister in more than three decades since the visit of Indira Gandhi in 1981. 
 
The island country rolled out the red carpet for the Indian Prime Minister, who also received a guard of honour on arrival at the airport. Bainimarama was himself present at the airport to receive Modi. 
 
"It is a new day and a new beginning in our relations with Fiji. Fiji could serve as a hub for stronger Indian engagement with Pacific islands. I see this visit as an opportunity to renew an old relationship and lay the foundation for a strong partnership in the future," said Modi. 
 
"I regard Fiji as an important partner for India. We have deep and enduring ties of history and culture. Fiji is an influential voice in the Pacific Region and the developing world, and our partner in multilateral institutions," he added. 
 
Modi also addressed Fiji’s Parliament and pledged support to build a ‘Digital Fiji.’

This was Modi’s first diplomatic engagement on the third day of his 10-day three-nation tour of Myanmar, Australia and Fiji. 
 
"India is a close and valued partner for us," Medvedev told Modi when they met at the Myanmar International Conference Centre. Modi expressed confidence that the bilateral ties between the two countries will grow further. 
 It is pertinent to mention here that Russian President <keyword id="43440" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Vladimir-Putin">Vladimir Putin</keyword> is scheduled to travel to India next month for the 15th annual India-Russia summit. 
 When Modi met Putin on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Brazil in July, he had talked about strengthening India's strategic partnership with <keyword id="6358826" type="COUNTRY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Russia">Russia</keyword> in nuclear, defence and energy sectors.
