Indian Prime Minister Narenda Modi is all set to embark on a two-nation political tour, starting from Vietnam and followed by China, where he would be taking part in the <keyword id="3619515" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="G20-Summit-in-Hangzhou">G20 Summit in Hangzhou</keyword>. 
 
The recent past has seen a lot of tiffs between the Indian and Chinese government, be it over China’s opposition to India’s NSG application, or the topic of expulsion of Chinese journalists from India and how it was reported in the Chinese media. 
 
However, since there is always some scope for a healthy discussion, here are five points that PM Modi would be pushing, as per a TNN report: 
 
Pakistan 
 
The recent unrest in Kashmir saw Pakistan openly supporting Kashmiri terrorists and separatists against India, after which, India questioned protests in PoK over rigged elections, stating that PoK PoK belonged to India. 
 
It was then that PM Modi had warned Pakistan that India would raise its human rights violations in Balochistan in case Islamabad continues to support terrorist activities in Kashmir. 
 
Since China is a close ally to Pakistan and is seen supporting it, there are high chances that Pakistan would be a topic of discussion between India and China. 
 
<keyword id="1934950" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="China-Pakistan-economic-corridor">China-Pakistan Economic Corridor</keyword> (CPEC) 
 
India has been putting a lot of pressure on Islamabad, and this could prove to be harmful to the Chinese economy. CPEC is a $46-billion project, using which China wants to gain direct access to the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean Region. It has also invested heavily in the Gwadar Port in Balochistan for this very purpose. 
 
A critical part of this corridor runs through PoK, and now that India has decided to reinforce its legal claims on PoK, Beijing is bound to be upset. Even though the Chinese government has steered away from commenting on this, some sources say that Chinese think tanks have suggested China-Pakistan taking a joint military action against India so that the CPEC project is unhindered. 
 
<keyword id="430735" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="South-China-Sea">South China Sea</keyword> dispute 
 
This territorial dispute has made China stand against several nations, and this is benefitting India. 
 
After an international tribunal ruled in favour of India, that Beijing’s claims in the South China Sea were not justified, India had issued a statement in which it made a direct appeal to all nations involved in the conflict to “exercise self-restraint,” so that the dispute is not complicated further. 
 
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi was on his visit to India recently, when he said that it was up to New Delhi to support Beijing on the South China Sea dispute or not, also making sure that New Delhi does not raise the South China Sea issue anywhere. 
 
India’s budding friendships with South East Asia countries 
 
Vietnam is also involved in the South China Sea dispute, and Modi will be visiting it before China, where he would be signing a contract for the supply of four patrol vessels to the Vietnamese military. He could also discuss defence cooperation with Vietnam, much to China’s chagrin. 
 
India is increasingly getting friendly with other countries in the South East Asia, and China will most likely see these emerging friendships as a not-entirely-friendly alliance. 
 
India’s infrastructure development along China border 
 
Till almost a decade back, India had not built any infrastructure alongside Chinese border, making sure that Chinese be able to advance slowly in case Beijing invades India. However, China built up high-quality roads and rail links along the 3500-km border with India. 
 
Now that India is also looking to push infrastructure projects there, China has said that these efforts would only escalate tensions between the two countries. It was only recently that Beijing criticized India’s decision to deploy the advanced, supersonic cruise missile system BrahMos on its border with China, claiming that this deployment was “the opposite” of peace and stability. This too could be a topic of discussion, given that China on its part has done heavy military deployment in that area.

PM Modi is set to visit China, and here is what he’ll be talking about

India is doing anything and everything to get China’s nod for its membership bid for <keyword id="106964" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nuclear-Suppliers-Group">Nuclear Suppliers Group</keyword> (NSG). 
 
In a bid to coax the Dragon, India has relaxed key security conditions and in last one month it also removed most of the visa categories for the Chinese nationals from the Prior Referral Category (PRC) list. 
 
The PRC list is like a blacklist of many countries including Pakistan, Iraq, Sudan, North Korea and Iran. 
 Apart from this, India has also fast-tracked clearances for two <keyword id="1909979" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Chinese-Industrial-Parks">Chinese industrial parks</keyword> that are expected to come up in Maharashtra and Gujarat. 
 
Also, the Ministry of Home Affairs allowed Chinese sailors to leave their ships and visit port cities where they are docked, just like any other sailor. 
 
Reportedly, 21 Chinese companies have been granted security clearances. 
 
The latest to join the list are TBEA Energy and Beijing Automotive Industry Corporation. Security clearances were earlier granted to Huawei, China Shougang International Trade &amp; Engineering Corporation, ZTE and FiberHome Technologies Group. 
 
The two countries have also drawn up plans to sign an agreement on cooperation in security matters that will include better coordination among security agencies and anti-trafficking units.

India is making every desperate attempt to get China’s backing for NSG bid

<o:p></o:p>

	India’s relations with China have improved significantly over the past two years but they can still be much better, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=manohar+parrikar&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar</a> told DefenceAviationPost.com in an exclusive interaction.<o:p></o:p>

	Parrikar, who embarked on his five-day China visit, said he was hopeful that a day would soon come when the “decades-old boundary dispute” between the two Asian superpowers would be resolved.<o:p></o:p>

	“They (relations) are much better than what they were two years back. They can still become better. A day might come when they agree to settle the border dispute,” said the minister.<o:p></o:p>

	This will be Parrikar’s maiden visit to China where he will engage with Chinese authorities for three days and hold extensive discussions on improving security ties between the two sides.<o:p></o:p>

	Asked about the agenda of his visit, Parrikar said such visits help relations between the nuclear-armed neighbours get “better”.<o:p></o:p>

	“It’s a normal visit which happens as per schedule. They had invited me. These are processes of getting the relations better and better,” he said.<o:p></o:p>

	Parrikar is playing a tough balancing act as New Delhi further strengthens its growing defence partnership with Washington, while keeping Beijing in good humour.<o:p></o:p>

	India and the US just concluded successful talks on developing a manufacturing facility in India for F16 fighter jets.

	Meanwhile, Parrikar downplayed the non-participation of the Chinese in India’s biggest defence exhibition-the DefExpo India 2016-where over 1055 domestic and global companies had participated. As many as 47 countries from different continents took part in the exhibition. 

	In a significant departure from the policies of the Congress-led UPA era, Parrikar announced that India and US had agreed in principle to share military logistics.

	At the same time, while keeping Chinese sensitivities in mind, India suitably modified this agreement and ensured enough safeguards that gives it the right to refuse access to its military bases whenever it so desires.<o:p></o:p>

	“India’s in-principle agreement to sign the logistics pact with the US, commonly known as the Logistics Exchange Memorandum of Agreement (LEMOA), provides for sharing logistics and berthing facilities between the Indian and American forces. Beijing would have been keenly watching, no doubt,” said an analyst.<o:p></o:p>

	“LEMOA does not entail stationing of any US troops on Indian soil and is in no way a move by New Delhi to support Washington in forming any alliance against Beijing,” Indian officials clarified.<o:p></o:p>

	There was also no commitment given by India on joint naval patrolling with the US in the South China Sea and neither did Parrikar agree to come on board the quadrilateral security dialogue in the Asia Pacific region that the US has been pushing as a counter to China's aggressive behaviour in the South China Sea, they said.<o:p></o:p>

	The clarifications by Indian officials notwithstanding, China, is sure to have its own doubts.<o:p></o:p>

	Experts feel the relationship with the US is in India’s best interest considering China’s ambitious growth plans.<o:p></o:p>

	They point to Beijing’s recent decision to veto India's bid to designate Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Masood Azhar as a terrorist by the UN.

	“China’s close strategic partnership with Pakistan, the string of pearls strategy in the Indian Ocean region and the regular intrusions by its troops on the Line of Actual Control are clear signals that India should keep a deterrent ready,” said the analyst.<o:p></o:p>

	While no agreements are expected to be inked during Parrikar’s visit to Beijing, officials said the two countries will aim at implementing a border defence cooperation agreement they signed in 2013.

Decades-old boundary dispute between India, China could be resolved, says Parrikar

By K J M Varma Beijing, Apr 8 () India and China should pool in their scientific and technological resources to develop a vaccine to contain the deadly novel coronavirus, Indian Ambassador to China Vikram Misri has said."We could cooperate on the development of vaccine for this virus...It will be of great value for the world at large at the end of day, we do have a very large scientific and technological manpower in our two countries," Misri said in an interview to state-run CGTN here. He said there should be global cooperation to contain the COVID-19. "The enemy is not an individual, a country or a group of countries. It is a virus that doesn't discriminate. It is not only important for the countries to put aside their differences but also rise above those differences. We have to realise that we are all in this together," he said. According to estimates by the Johns Hopkins University, there are over 1.44 million confirmed coronavirus cases across the world and over 82,000 people have died of it. Misri said China and India can cooperate on scientific and medical research side in health sector and in the epidemiological sector as well as it will be useful for scientists and institutes of virology from both the countries to be in touch with each other.He said India is in the process of procuring quality medical equipment in orderly and stable manner from China to deal with the coronavirus outbreak at home.When China was dealing with coronavirus crisis in January-February this year, India through a process of consultations provided 15 tonnes of medical assistance, Misri recalled."There is a lot of room for cooperation. In the present case, we are commercially procuring (medial equipment) wherever it is available. China happens to be country where a lot of it is available," he said.He said India has requested for assistance of the Chinese government in identifying the bonafide suppliers of these materials. "What is important is for quality material to be supplied at prices that are reasonable and stable," he said.China is one of the largest manufacturers of the PPE (Personnel protection equipment) ventilators and other such equipment, he said.On the 70 years of establishment of the diplomatic relations starting from April 1, he said 70 events planned by the two governments to celebrate the occasion is affected by coronavirus pandemic in both the countries. "Broadly I would say in India there is a recognition that this (India-China ties) is an important relationship", bilaterally, regionally and for the world at large, the diplomat said. On April 1, 1950, India became the first non-Communist country in Asia to establish diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China (PRC).Misri said Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping made an important contribution to the relations of the two countries by establishing informal summit mechanism. The two leaders held two informal summits in Wuhan in 2018 and in Chennai in 2019."What is really important is the underlying common understanding between the two leaders that our differences must not be allowed to be turned into disputes," Misri said."This is a good understanding on the basis for us to proceed.
