Prices just hit 15-year highs, and are on track for a record annual gain as a move away from fossil fuels increases demand.That's also fueling a scorching rally in the stocks of uranium miners such as Cameco. The Sprott Uranium Miners Exchange-Traded Fund (URNM) has jumped 42% this year – higher than the 40% advance in the tech-focused Nasdaq 100 index. Cameco's shares rocketed 83% year-to-date.Uranium is up 55% this year and last week hit $74.50 per pound – the highest level since 2008. In comparison, gold has gained just 7.7%, while US oil prices fell 3.7%.<h2>Heavy metal mania</h2>Demand for the heavy metal has surged as countries from China to India and Russia pursue more nuclear programs to generate more energy while reducing carbon emissions.About 60 nuclear reactors are under construction globally and will need about 30 million pounds of uranium a year when they start operating, according to a <a href="https://www.cruxinvestor.com/posts/investor-guide-to-the-uranium-bull-market-the-new-nuclear-renaissance" target="_blank" rel="noopener">report</a> by mining investment news and analysis provider Crux Investor.On the other hand, supply of uranium has been constrained by years of underinvestment in the sector following the 2011 Fukushima nuclear disaster in Japan.The widening demand-supply gap will continue to drive uranium prices higher, according to John Ciampaglia, CEO of Sprott Asset Management, which specializes in precious metals and real assets.Uranium prices have jumped "about 150% in the last two years, and we think there's more room to go," he recently told <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UdqOnsh6e_k" target="_blank" rel="noopener">CNBC</a>.Ciampaglia blamed the "major supply deficit" for the surge: "That's really a function having a lost decade where we did not invest in this technology. As a result, we did not invest in a lot of mining."<h2>China leads the race</h2>About 800 gigawatts of new nuclear power generation may be needed globally by 2050 to meet energy-transition goals, according to a report by asset manager Global X ETFs. China is expected to lead the atomic-energy race in this century.By 2060, China should be generating about 18% of its electricity from nuclear plants in the world, up from about 5%, Rohan Reddy of Global X wrote in the report.

In spite of several bottlenecks, the NHAI has set up impressive targets and aims to develop 20 km/day, in a bid to fast-track the country’s <keyword id="2034194" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Road-network-expansion">road network expansion</keyword>. 
 As of July 2013, <keyword id="6373156" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="National-Highways">national highways</keyword> account for 79,116 km, connecting all major cities and state capitals. Expressways, however, differ a bit in the sense they are controlled-access highways like the <keyword id="610047" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="freeways">freeways</keyword> or <keyword id="1333990" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="motorways">motorways</keyword> or autobahnen in the US and Europe, essentially designed for high-speed traffic. As of now, most of the expressways in India are 6-8 lane <keyword id="120837" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="toll-roads">toll roads</keyword> and cover a total distance of nearly 1,208.19 km. India expects to add another 3,530 km of expressways by 2014 as projects under construction get completed. Another massive programme is also under way to expand the network and the Indian government plans to add an additional 18,637 km of expressways by 2022.

<ul><li>Overall sales increased by 14% over Q1 2022 across top 7 cities. </li><li>New launches in top 7 cities witnessed a 23% yearly rise. </li><li>Average residential property prices across the top 7 cities increase 6-9%. </li></ul>Despite global economic uncertainties, including layoffs by several large and small companies, the bull run in the Indian housing market continued in the January to March quarter 2023 (Q1 2023). According to the research data by real estate consultancy Anarock, quarterly housing sales are at an all-time high in the last decade, with approximately 1,13,770 units sold in Q1 2023 across the top 7 cities. This is a 14% yearly rise against approximately 99,550 units sold back in Q1 2022. NCR, MMR, Bengaluru, Pune, and Hyderabad together accounted for 89% sales in the quarter. Says Anuj Puri, Chairman, Anarock group, “The residential market’s winning streak continued in the first quarter of 2023 with housing sales in top cities breaching the previous high of Q1 2022. The quarter has recorded the highest ever sales in the last decade amid significant rise in demand for high-ticket priced homes (homes costing more than ₹1.5 crore). In spite of a high number of new launches in this and the previous quarter, the available inventory in the top 7 cities remained almost similar at about 6.27 lakh units by Q1 2023-end. On a sequential basis, unsold stock saw a 1% dip across the top 7 cities. Among the top cities, NCR saw the highest decline in its unsold stock in January to March quarter 2023 by 22%. “The housing sector is experiencing strong sales due to increased affordability over the years. We anticipate closing this fiscal year with the highest number of housing units sold, since our inception. Despite a rise in home loan interest rates, there has been minimal impact on demand nationwide. We anticipate that the demand in the housing sector will continue for at least a few more years,” said Pradeep Aggarwal, founder &amp; chairman, Signature Global (India), commenting on the Anarock report. Puri however added that persistent inflation concerns along with another possible rate hike by the RBI in the near future could dent the housing market’s growth trajectory in the upcoming two quarters. Average residential property prices across the top 7 cities increased in the range of 6-9% in Q1 2023 when compared to Q1 2022, mainly due to increase in the prices of construction raw materials and overall rise in demand. MMR and Bangalore recorded the highest 9% annual jump. New launches in top 7 cities witness a 23% yearly rise New launches across the top 7 cities also breached the one lakh mark and witnessed 23% yearly rise – from 89,140 units in Q1 2022 to over 1,09,570 units in Q1 2023. Interestingly, Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) and Pune again saw the maximum new supply, accounting for 52% of the total new launches across the top 7 cities. Individually, the two cities saw 58% and 34% yearly increases in their new supply, respectively. MMR saw approximately 37,260 units launched in Q1 2023 – a significant increase of nearly 58% over Q1 2022. More than 62% new supply was added in the sub-₹80 lakh budget segment. On the other hand, Pune added a new supply of approximately 19,420 units in Q1 2023 compared to 14,490 units in Q1 2022 – an increase of 34%. · Chennai added approximately 6,410 units in Q1 2023, a yearly increase of a whopping 110% over Q1 2022. It was the only city to see three-digit growth in new supply. Here’s why Nifty broke the 16,000 barrier ⁠— Titan, HDFC, Nestle and Ultratech tell the story of the euphoria in the Indian stock market

UK's <keyword id="128650" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Cairn-Energy">Cairn Energy</keyword> has identified USD 70 billion of Indian assets overseas for potential seizure to collect USD 1.72 billion due from the government -- a move if successful will put India in league with Pakistan and Venezuela which faced similar enforcement action over failure to pay arbitration awards. The assets identified range from <keyword id="2573" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Air-India">Air India</keyword>'s planes to vessels belonging to the Shipping Corporation of India, and properties owned by state-owned banks to oil and gas cargoes of PSUs, three people familiar with the matter said. These assets are across several jurisdictions, they said without giving further details. <keyword id="64469" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Cairn">Cairn</keyword> plans to move courts in the US to Singapore for seizure of the assets in absence of Indian government's refusal to honour an international arbitration award. "The Indian government naturally will challenge such seizure but to save the assets it may have to pawn money equivalent to the value of assets in some financial security such as bank guarantee. The court will return such a guarantee to India if it does not find merit in Cairn's case. But the surety will be passed on to Cairn if the court finds that India had failed to honour its obligation," a source said. Cairn has got an international arbitration award -- which overturned levy of retrospective taxes and ordered New Delhi to return the value of shares it had sold, dividends seized and tax refunds withheld to recover such taxes -- registered in the US, UK, France, the Netherlands, Singapore, Mauritius, Canada's Quebec province, Japan and UAE. Now it has started moving courts to get a declaration that state-owned entities are alter egos of India and they should be held liable for discharge of the arbitration award in absence of the government making payments. Cairn on May 14 filed a lawsuit in a New York court to get Air India recognised as the alter ego of India and that "it should be held jointly and severally responsible for India's debts, including from any judgment resulting from recognition of the award". Once a court recognises Air India as the alter ego of the Indian government, Cairn can seek attachment or seizure of its assets in the US such as airplanes, immovable assets and bank accounts to recover the amount it was awarded by the arbitration tribunal. The move is similar to a court in the British Virgin Islands ordering in December last year that <keyword id="6368036" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="hotels">hotels</keyword> in New York and Paris owned by Pakistan International Airlines would be used to settle a claim against Pakistan's government by a Canadian-Chilean copper company. Crystallex International Corp had brought a similar lawsuit to attach property of Petroleos de Venezuela, S.A (PDVSA), the state-owned oil company of Venezuela, in Delaware couple of years back after the Latin American country failed to pay the firm USD 1.2 billion that an arbitration tribunal had ordered to pay in lieu of the 2011 seizing gold deposits held and developed by the firm. In 2012, Elliott Management, a buccaneering American hedge fund which held distressed Argentine bonds, seized a handsome tall ship belonging to Argentina's navy. Recently, French courts ruled that a stifled creditor could seize a business jet belonging to the government of Congo-Brazzaville while it was being serviced at a French airport, as well as USD 30 million from a bank account of the country's state oil company. While the finance ministry has so far not commented on the Cairn move, sources said India will take all necessary steps to defend against any such "illegal enforcement action". India, they said, will contest the move on grounds that the government has challenged the arbitration award in the appropriate court in The Hague and it is confident that the award will be set aside. Sources said the government has also engaged a counsel team which is ready to defend against any enforcement action. While they maintained that neither the government nor any PSU has received any such notice, people aware of the Cairn lawsuit said the case has been brought only on Friday and notices in due course will come to the concerned authorities. The sources said as and when any such notice is received, the government/ concerned organisation shall take all necessary steps to defend against "any such illegal enforcement action". "Cairn is taking the necessary legal steps to protect shareholders' interest in the absence of a resolution of the arbitral award," a company spokesperson said commenting on the issue. "Cairn remains open to continuing constructive dialogue with the <keyword id="6377129" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="government-of-india">Government of India</keyword> to arrive at a satisfactory outcome to this long-running issue." The Scottish firm invested in the oil and gas sector in India in 1994 and a decade later it made a huge oil discovery in Rajasthan. In 2006 it listed its Indian assets on the BSE. Five years after that the government passed a retroactive tax law and billed Cairn ₹10,247 crore plus interest and penalty for the reorganisation tied to the flotation. The state then expropriated and liquidated Cairn's remaining shares in the Indian entity, seized dividends and withheld tax refunds to recover a part of the demand. Cairn challenged the move before an arbitration tribunal in The Hague, which in December awarded it USD 1.2 billion (over ₹8,800 crore) plus costs and interest, which totals USD 1.725 million (₹12,600 crore) as of December 2020. The company, which previously said the ruling was binding and enforceable under international treaty law, has been since then courting Indian government officials to get the money paid. But the government has not agreed to pay. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had last month reiterated that international arbitration ruling on India's sovereign right to taxation sets wrong precedent, but had said that the government is looking at how best it can sort out the issue. The government, which participated in an international arbitration brought by the Scottish firm against being taxed retrospectively, has appealed against The Hague based tribunal's ruling. Sources said the appeal does not inhibit the company from seeking seizure of Indian assets. "It may not go for seizure of assets in the Netherlands during pendency of the appeal, but it can go after assets elsewhere," a source said. UK's Cairn Energy identifies $70 billion Indian assets for seizing to recover amount due from government

MUMBAI: The markets are on a roll, with the <keyword id="6484188" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sensex">Sensex</keyword> and Nifty making fresh life highs, led by gains in banks, auto and energy counters. 
 
The new life high for Sensex is 26,356.24; and that for Nifty is 7,865.85. 
 
The Nifty extended its winning streak for fifth consecutive session and hit an all-time high as FIIs continued to pump in dollars in Indian markets on expectations of pick-up in economy 
 
Sudip Bandyopadhyay, President, Destimoney Securities, is of the view that the market will continue to move upwards. 
 
“A lot of FIIs money is coming out of Russia into Indian markets through BRICS fund. Domestic investors are also entering the market and that is providing support,” said Bandyopadhyay. 
 
At 2:02 p.m.; the 50-share index was at 7,860.95, up 69.25 points or 0.89 per cent. It touched an all-time high of 7,865.85 and a low of 7,779.20 in trade today. 
 The S&amp;P <keyword id="35140" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="BSE">BSE</keyword> Sensex was at 26,340.82, up 237.59 points or 0.91 per cent. It touched an all-time high of 26,356.24 and a low of 26,075.28 in trade today. 
 
Sandeep Tandon of Quant Broking is of the view that market went through consolidation in the last three months. It is light at the moment and looks set for next leg of upmove. 
 
The CNX Midcap Index rallied 1.27 per cent and the CNX Smallcap Index surged 2.10 per cent. 
 
Among the sectoral indices, the CNX Bank Nifty was up 1.49 per cent, the CNX Auto Index gained 1.02 per cent, the CNX Energy Index rose 1.42 per cent. 
 
The CNX FMCG Index was down 0.75 per cent and the CNX IT Index slipped 0.51 per cent. 
 BPCL (up 5.25 per cent), <keyword id="6355975" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Axis-Bank">Axis Bank</keyword> (up 3.11 per cent), <keyword id="45008" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tata-Power">Tata Power</keyword> (up 3.04 per cent), BHEL (up 2.91 per cent) and Tata Motors (up 2.87 per cent) were among the major Nifty gainers. 
 
ITC (1.92 per cent), Infosys (1.01 per cent), HCL Tech (0.80 per cent), HDFC (0.70 per cent) and TCS (0.68 per cent) were among the index losers. 
 
The market breadth was positive on the NSE with 1090 gainers against 425 losers. 
 
Foreign institutional investors were net buyers worth Rs 625.18 crore and domestic institutional investors were net buyers worth Rs 135.75 crore on Thursday as per the provisional data from the National Stock Exchange.

Markets Hit Fresh Life Highs And Experts Say Bull Run Is On; Top 20 Stock Bets

<ul><li>Stock market will give a thumbs up to the outcome as investors are betting Modi getting a clear majority in 2024 too.</li><li>The results of assembly polls in four states - <keyword id="43945" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="chhattisgarh" source="Orion">Chhattisgarh</keyword>, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Telangana- are being considered as the semifinal before the Lok Sabha polls which are scheduled for 2024.</li><li>Morgan Stanley forecasts a 14% upside to the BSE Sensex by December 2024 in their base case scenario. This is based on assumptions of continuity in the government with a majority mandate, stable policy, robust domestic growth, and benign oil prices.</li></ul>Santa Claus may visit Dalal Street well before Christmas this December, as the Bharatiya Janata Party delivered a hattrick on Sunday. The ruling BJP has demonstrated that it still has the pulse of the people in the Hindi heartland, despite the conflicting views that came from psephologists. Even before all the rounds of counting were over, spokespersons of the party called the elections and celebrations kicked off in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and even Chhattisgarh. By the time when the final vote count was over, around 9:00 pm, BJP had won all the three states. Congress had a consolation win in Telangana. It is noteworthy, that these elections are were the last before Lok Sabha polls which are scheduled for 2024 and were thus being seen as semifinal of sorts. While exit polls showed a tight contest between BJP and the Congress in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, the Congress Party was expected to return to power in Chhattisgarh. However, BJP’s election machinery yet again pulled off a hattrick, with the Hindu right wing party storming to power in MP, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh. The outlook for India's stock market is expected to be positive ahead of the New Year (2024) but the journey may be volatile given that general elections are around the corner. According to Morgan Stanley, the market is likely to price in continuity and a majority government, leading to a rise in equities. Several factors contribute to this positive outlook, including strong macro stability, forecasted earnings growth, and a reliable source of domestic risk capital. Morgan Stanley forecasts a 14% upside to the BSE Sensex by December 2024 in their base case scenario. This is based on assumptions of continuity in the government with a majority mandate, stable policy, robust domestic growth, and benign oil prices. They expect BSE Sensex earnings to compound at a rate of 21.5% annually through F2026E. However, the analysis also acknowledges the potential for volatility in 2024, which is evident in their bull-bear scenarios. Rajasthan: BJP makes a comeback The Bharatiya Janata Party is returning to power in Rajasthan having won 115 seats, as per the Election Commission of India. There are 199 Assembly seats in Rajasthan, and the halfway mark is 100. The Congress was in the incumbent party in the state. The beating of drums and dancing by BJP workers started early in Jaipur as official EC trends showed the party build lead. Rahul Gandhi-led Congress won 69 seats. Former chief minister and BJP leader Vasundhara Raje won from the Jhalrapatan seat. Among the other BJP candidates who won were Diya Kumari from Vidhyadhnagar, Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore from Jhotwara, Samaram from Pindwara Abu, Govind Prasad from Manohar Thana, Jaswant Singh Yadav from Behror, Mahendra Pal Meena from Jamwa Ramgarh, Anita Bhadel from Ajmer South, and Madan Dilawar from Ramganj Mandi. The Congress candidates who secured victory included Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot from Sardarpura, Sachin Pilot from Tonk, Shanti Dhariwal from Kota North, Tikaram Jully from Alwar Rural, and Anita Jatav from Hindaun. Madhya Pradesh: BJP returns The ruling BJP looks on course to retain power in Madhya Pradesh. As per the latest figures available with the Election Commission, the BJP was leading in 163 of the 230 seats in Madhya Pradesh, while the Congress was ahead in 66 seats. Many party leaders attributed the electoral success to PM Narendra Modi, who addressed as many as 14 poll rallies in the state. The state Congress office bore a deserted look. MP Congress president Kamal Nath and senior party leader Digvijaya Singh were in the office, holding discussions with party functionaries. In Budhni assembly constituency, Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan of BJP defeated Vikram Sharma of Congress by over 1 lakh votes. Polling in the single-phase elections on November 17 saw an impressive turnout of 77.82 per cent, surpassing the 2018 voting percentage of 75.63 per cent. The state electorate voted for 2,533 candidates in 230 constituencies. There were 5.59 lakh eligible voters. Chhattisgarh: BJP back in power Chhattisgarh, witnessed a close fight between Bharatiya Janata Party and the ruling Congress party in the early hours of counting, as per the trends by the Elections Commission of India. The BJP crossed the halfway mark by winning 54 seats Out of the total 90 constituencies, the Congress won 35 seats The Gondwana Gantantra Party (GGP) bagged one seat, as per the Election Commission. In the 2018 assembly polls, the Congress had won 68 seats and the then ruling BJP 15. The Janata Congress Chhattisgarh had won five segments. Much ahead of the elections this year, the Congress declared that the state would procure 20 quintals of paddy per acre from farmers in this kharif season. During electioneering, it promised loan waiver to farmers, also made by it in 2018. BJP's promises included procurement of 21 quintals of paddy per acre at Rs 3,100 per quintal, annual financial assistance of Rs 12,000 to married women under the 'Mahtari Vandan Yojana', construction of 18 lakh houses under 'PM Awas Yojna', tendu leaf procurement at Rs 5,500 per standard sack and bonus of Rs 4,500 to leaf collectors and annual assistance of Rs 10,000 to landless farm labourers.
