In 2014, SBI had approved a $1 billion loan for the Carmichael project after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s trip to Australia. However, it was revoked after protests escalated and the Indian government-owned bank found itself at the receiving end of <a href="https://www.thehindu.com/news/national/sbiadani-pact-just-a-loan-not-crony-capitalism-says-jaitley/article6627930.ece">a ‘crony capitalism’ charge</a>. Critics believed that the loan was approved because Adani has been a long-time supporter of Modi. The controversy around Adani’s mining plans in Australia Adani acquired the coal mine in Galilee Basin in 2010 and was expected to produce, every year, 8-10 million tonnes of thermal coal ⁠— allegedly of low quality with high ash content⁠— to generate electricity. The coal basin is located in a pristine area, and this approval was opposed by green groups who believe that it can affect the Great Barrier Reef. The Great Barrier Reef, which is the world's largest coral reef system, has already been in danger with its <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/world-australia-54533971">coral depleting rapidly</a> over the years. According to the website <a href="https://www.stopadani.com/why_stop_adani">StopAdani.com,</a> Adani’s project will only further threaten the existence of the coral reef as it will allow over 500 ships to pass through the Great Barrier Reef heritage area and also “get access to 270 billion litres of Queensland's precious groundwater for 60 years, for free” The project to develop the mine also involves building a railway line which will connect the mine to Abbot Point port, aiding exports. This infrastructure is estimated to cost around $3.3 billion. However, in 2019, Adani had <a href="https://www.abc.net.au/news/2019-06-13/adani-carmichael-coal-mine-approved-water-management-galilee/11203208">received</a> a go-ahead from Queensland’s Department of Environment and Science (DES) and the company recently said that it would start production in 2021 and for that, the company is in talks with SBI for a loan, the reason for the protest at the Sydney cricket ground today. ‘SBI No $1B Adani loan’ ⁠— a screaming sign interrupts India vs Australia first ODI at Sydney

New Delhi, The <keyword id="6354977" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Supreme-Court">Supreme Court</keyword> Friday directed the government to ensure that all steps be taken to implement its decision to forego interest on eight specified <keyword id="10342500" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="categories-of-loans">categories of loans</keyword> paid upto ₹2 crore in view of the coronavirus pandemic. A bench headed by Justice <keyword id="247734" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ashok-Bhushan">Ashok Bhushan</keyword> said the COVID-19 pandemic has not only caused serious threat to the health of the people but has also cast its shadow on the <keyword id="47276" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Economic-growth">economic growth</keyword> of the country as well as other countries in the entire world. The eight categories of loans are MSME (Micro, Small &amp; Medium Enterprises), Education, Housing, Consumer durable, Credit card, Automobile, Personal and Consumption. "Due to lockdown imposed by <keyword id="1576501" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="The-Government-of-India">the Government of India</keyword> in exercise of powers under the Disaster Management Act, 2005, there can be no denial that most of the businesses including private sector as well as public sector has been adversely affected. "For several months, large number of industries were not allowed to function and exemptions were granted only to few of the industries to run and carry on its activities, which were found essential and necessary in the fact situation," the bench, also comprising Justices R S Reddy and M R Shah, said. Although, gradually, due to Unlock- 1, 2 and 3, the industries and other business activities have been restored and the economy of the country is on track, although at a slow pace, it said. The apex court noted that moratorium period as granted by the Reserve Bank of India have continued from March 3 to August 31 for the period of six months. It noted the submission of Solicitor General Tushar Mehta that measures taken by the Centre in exercise of jurisdiction under the Disaster Management Act, 2005 to mitigate the hardships and miseries of few sectors. "As noted above, senior advocate Rajiv Dutta, counsel for the petitioner has expressed its satisfaction on the measures taken by the Government of India redressing grievances of the petitioner to the extent as noted above. "We dispose of the present writ petition with directions to the respondents to ensure that all steps be taken to implement the decision... so that benefit as contemplated by the Government of India percolates to those for whom financial benefits have been envisaged and extended," it said. The RBI had on March 27 issued the circular which allowed lending institutions to grant a moratorium on payment of instalments of term loans falling due between March 1, 2020, and May 31, 2020, due to the pandemic. Later, the moratorium was extended till August 31 this year. The pleas pertained to charging of interest on interest by banks on EMIs which have not been paid by borrowers after availing the loan moratorium scheme of RBI during March 1 to August 31. The top court's judgement came on a PIL filed by Agra resident Gajendra Sharma seeking directions to declare the notification dated March 27, 2020 issued by Reserve Bank of India as ultra vires to the extent it charges interest on the loan amount during the moratorium period. The wanted businessman who has now fled India, was booed and heckled by crowds at The Oval as he watched the India-Australia match with his family, in the UK. Crowds chanted “chor hai, chor hai (you are a thief)” as they spotted Mallya at the match. This is not the first time when Mallya, who has fraud and money laundering charges against him in India, was heckled by crowds. A similar incident occurred in January 2017 to Mallya at The Oval stadium, to watch the Champions Trophy match between South Africa and West Indies. According to NDTV reports, crowds cried “chor, chor" (thief, thief)” at him. ‘Here to watch the match’ In a video from the World Cup match, Mallya was seen surrounded by a small crowd, pushing and shoving him, as the cries grew louder. At one point, someone even shouted, “Be a man, apologize to your country,” is heard, to which Mallya mumbled an inaudible response. “I am making sure my mother doesn’t get hurt. I am here to watch the game,” Mallya told news agency ANI, adding that preparations are underway for the next hearing scheduled in July. He has been fighting India's attempts to extradite him., and try him for his financial crimes. Mallya left India in 2016 before a lookout notice was issued against the former owner of Kingfisher Airlines. He owes as much as ₹90 billion to a clutch of banks, led by SBI. Mallya was at The Oval with his son, Siddharth Mallya, and posted a photo with him.

In denial Mallya had repeatedly denied fleeing the country and said he is ready to pay back the money he owes to Indian banks. The London High Court will hear his oral plea against his extradition on July 2. Earlier, the High Court had rejected his plea against the extradition order by the UK Home Office and the Westminster Court. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had also moved the Special Prevention of Money Laundering Act court last year to get them to declare Mallya declared a “fugitive economic offender”. This will allow them to confiscate his properties estimated to be worth ₹120 billion, making it the first such case of its kind, under the new law.

 Business Insider chatted with Aneesh Madani, Head of Sports Partnerships at <keyword id="749437" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Twitter-India">Twitter India</keyword> and he shared with us the top 5 trends during the 2016 Olympics. It tells a lot about how the Games unfolded on the social networking portal through the course of those two weeks when Indians were obsessing over Rio Olympics.

Aneesh told us – “The scale at which Indians came together to celebrate our women sporting heroes on Twitter has never been seen before. There were 2 million tweets around the performances of four women sportspersons - <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/PV-Sindhu-gets-India-Silver-medal-in-Badminton-at-Rio-Olympics-2016/articleshow/53774591.cms">PV Sindhu</a>, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Sakshi-Malik-gets-rousing-welcome-says-she-always-wanted-win-an-Olympic-medal-for-India/articleshow/53839167.cms">Sakshi Malik,</a> Deepa Karmakar and <keyword id="487" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sania-Mirza">Sania Mirza</keyword>. The count was more than the number of tweets for the India-Pakistan and India-Australia matches combined during the World T20. Also, there were 1.48 million tweets on <keyword id="501707" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="PV-Sindhu">PV Sindhu</keyword> throughout Olympics, and 5.76 lakh tweets around <keyword id="6356003" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sakshi-Malik">Sakshi Malik</keyword>.” 
 
While public figures tweeted about how these athletes were an inspiration for them, the platform saw even mothers sharing tweets promising to share success stories of the athletes with their young daughters. “It was heartwarming to see Twitter being used for outpouring of emotions. It became the common channel of communication connecting athletes and fans. That was the top trend for us that defined Twitter during these two weeks,” Aneesh said. 
 
Fans and Olympians conversed with each other directly throughout the Games 
 
Twitter saw a spike in conversations between fans and Olympians even before Olympics began. <a href="https://twitter.com/DipaKarmakar/status/765015937032466432">Athletes posted videos</a>, <a href="https://twitter.com/SakshiMalik/status/766260947463774208">tweeted pictures</a> before and after victory to thank fans for continued support. “Whether it was hockey team tweeting photos from the Rio Olympic village or Deepa Karmakar and Sakshi Malik joining Twitter after their respective win, Twitter saw direct and intimate conversations among Olympians and fans throughout the Games,” Aneesh said. 
 
He added – “The audience of our top 10 most followed Indian Olympians on Twitter grew by almost 12 times since London Games in 2012. During Rio Olympics, PV Sindhu had her Twitter following grow by 7 times. Deepa and Sakshi who joined later already have over 60,000 followers in merely less than a week.” 
 Moreover, ministers like Sushma Swaraj, celebrities like <keyword id="6357912" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="amitabh-bachchan">Amitabh Bachchan</keyword> and sportspersons like Sachin Tendulkar became fans of our women players. They were all using Twitter to express their pleasure in seeing the girls perform well in the Games. 
 
“Twitter infact saw for the first time a cricket icon like <a href="https://twitter.com/sachin_rt">Sachin Tendulkar</a> even live-tweet <a href="https://twitter.com/sachin_rt/status/766644969616478213">the final match between Sindhu and Carolina Marin</a>,” Aneesh said. 
 
An Ecosystem emerged on Twitter, something no one knew of earlier 
 
There are organizations like Olympic Gold Quest, JSW Sports and Gosports who have been tirelessly working with Olympians, supporting their training and preparation for years quietly. For instance, Olympic Gold Quest has been supporting PV Sindhu since she was 14. 
 
“As soon as some of our women athletes clinched medals, there was a lot of conversation on Twitter around how these organizations have helped Olympic athletes become rather great performers. Athletes, fans and sports journalists came together to highlight the work these institutions have been doing and it really brought awareness around this ecosystem which will hopefully get stronger as people connect to these organizations in the times to come,” said Aneesh. 
 
Twitteratis engaged on the need for accountability from sports administrators 
 
During the first week when Indian players came close to medals, but couldn’t get them, Twitter engaged in conversations on how there is a need for better accountability from administrators, and the support Indian athletes need to excel at Olympics. 
 
Humour around Games united non-sports enthusiasts on Twitter 
 
Sporting events like Olympics are bringing people together like never before, and in a fun way. For instance, there were <a href="https://twitter.com/TheEllenShow/status/765303894159208448">iconic photographs of Usain Bolt</a> being circulated. It got people talking, even those who might not even care about sports or certain sports in Olympics. 
 
In a nutshell, Indian women players not only created history by making it to Rio Games, they united Indians to celebrate women players and different sports. They created history.
