They stayed in the news for both good and bad reasons. Reliance Industries Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance recently created history in the stock market with its market cap crossing ₹10 lakh crore. It was the first Indian company to do so. But that wasn’t the only news that caught everyone’s attention. The stock and the company has been buzzing especially during the second half of the year. According to the Wizikey report, Reliance holds the credit for one-third of the total news created by the top 5 companies. The busiest news month for the company was in August, when it held its annual general meeting.  Jet Airways The Indian airlines shut shop in April this year and not surprisingly, that was the month it was mentioned the most.  IndiGo Accompanying Jet Airways in the newsmakers sector, was one of India’s largest airlines – IndiGo. Having gained from the collapse of Jet Airways, with more bookings coming its way, IndiGo too had its fair share of trouble. A feud between its founders Rahul Bhatia and Rakesh Gangwal over company’s control took an ugly turn. Our microbes, it turns out, can impact everything from weight to whether a person gets <a href="http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/25538312">diabetes</a> or <a href="http://www.nature.com/nrc/journal/v13/n11/abs/nrc3610.html">cancer</a>. It's not just humans that rely on a healthy microbiome. Plants do too - and just as researchers have started coming up <a href="http://www.cnbc.com/2015/06/19/medicines-next-frontier-the-microbiome.html">with treatments</a> to heal the human microbiome, companies are now doing the same for plants. By adding probiotics to crops, the thinking goes, farmers can look forward to better yields without using any pesticides or GMOs.A startup called Indigo is now offering microbe-enhanced crops to farmers. First up: cotton coated with a microbe that can improve yield in drought conditions. Indigo started selling to customers during the spring as they were planting cotton seed; the product is now planted on over 50,000 acres in Texas and four surrounding states.In earlier trials, coated seeds improved yields by 10% compared to uncoated seeds. Indigo doesn't yet know if that's the case for the seeds planted in the spring. But if it is, it's a potentially big deal in the numerous states that have struggled with drought in recent years."Microbes have evolved for hundreds of millions of years with plants. That worked until the advent of agricultural chemicals - pesticides, herbicides, fungicides. It's not that those technologies were bad, but we didn't understand we were also killing off the beneficial stuff," says Indigo CEO David Perry.Indigo identifies beneficial microbes and adds them to the plants in the hopes that crops will have higher yields and become more resistant to disease.In order to find those microbes, the company does DNA sequencing for thousands of plant samples from all over the world. Then it creates and runs algorithms to predict which microbes will work best under various conditions.This wouldn't have been possible even two or three years ago because sequencing was so expensive. But costs are dropping quickly, which is good news for Indigo's future products.Indigo plans to test microbes that target numerous problems, including nutrient stress, insect infestations, and excess salt in the soil. Drought-resistant microbes came first since water stress is such a huge problem and existing tools don't help much."There's no chemical you can spray on a plant to have it perform better when it doesn't have enough water," says Perry.There's no set price for Indigo's products; farmers pay a third of the additional value created by the microbe-coated seeds (plus a small upfront cost for seeds). So if Indigo Cotton boosts yield by 10%, the company wants a third of that. The price structure is indicative of the company's faith that its products will actually do what they're intended to do."Someday we'll look back and say 'Thank God we don't have to put pesticides on thousands of acres anymore,'" says Perry. Indigo Paints joins the league of Burger King and Bector's — frenzied IPOs that fizzled out

<ul><li>IndiGo and GoAir’s flights to Port Blair with their Airbus A320neo have been banned. </li><li>Both airlines use Pratt &amp; Whitney engines, which have caused many mid-air scares. </li><li>However, the government has allowed the airlines to operate all other flights. </li></ul>After multiple <a href="https://scroll.in/latest/909908/indigo-goair-barred-from-flying-airbus-a320neo-aircraft-to-port-blair">mid-air scares</a> and incidents of <a href="https://www.business-standard.com/article/news-ians/pw-initiates-steps-to-fix-smoke-trouble-with-engines-after-indigo-incident-118121901355_1.html">smoke</a> inside flights, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, the regulatory body under the civil aviation ministry has now banned IndiGo and GoAir from flying their Airbus A320neo aircraft to Port Blair. The ban extends to flying the Airbus A320neo aircraft to any other overseas route, where an alternate landing option is more than an hour away, should one of the engines develop a snag. “This restriction has been imposed for safety reason as there must be an airport within one hour of flying time during entire journey of A320neo with PW engines so that the plane can safely land at the nearest alternate on a single engine when one engine develops a snag,” a senior regulatory official told <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/business/india-business/dgca-bars-indigo-goair-from-flying-planes-with-pw-engines-to-port-blair-or-long-overseas-routes/articleshow/67576407.cms">The Times of India</a>. For some time now, there have been complaints about the Pratt &amp; Whitney engines in the aircraft. Despite the risks, flights continue to operate on all other routes within India without any restrictions. “We have proactively complied with the <keyword id="6354787" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="DGCA">DGCA</keyword> circular,” IndiGo said in response to queries from Business Insider. Currently, IndiGo operates over 40 A320neo aircraft, while GoAir has 30 of the said aircraft. “If it is risky flying an aircraft with engines having a high rate of in-flight shutdowns, then it’s much better you don’t fly it, as a precaution to avert a catastrophe. Unfortunately, airlines will have a hard time keeping things going from a network perspective, and (it) would mean a significant revenue hit, for sure,” Mark Martin, CEO of aviation consultancy firm Martin Consulting told Quartz in March 2018. Jayant Sinha, the junior minister for civil aviation, met with DGCA authorities on January 8 to take stock of the risks with Pratt and Whitney engines, following a glitch on an IndiGo flight from Kolkata to Chennai. The DGCA reportedly decided to review the performance of Airbus A320 aircraft fitted with the P&amp;W 1100 series engines. In November 2018, an IndiGo Hyderabad-Port Blair flight had <a href="https://www.timesnownews.com/india/article/another-scare-for-passengers-indigo-plane-engine-fails-mid-air-aircraft-tilts-heavily-towards-one-side/318839">reportedly</a> suffered engine failure right after take off and had to go for an emergency landing. However, the aviation company declined to have had any such incident and called it “false news”. In its quarterly filing, SpiceJet also stated that it is restructuring aircraft lease and renegotiating some of its current contracts to for long term saving impact on the cost front. The shares of SpiceJet closed 0.47% lower yesterday. IndiGo Aviation regulator DGCA has asked IndiGo and GoAir to fly only those aircraft that have modified Pratt and Whitney (PW) engines on them, said the civil aviation minister Hardeep Singh Puri. The PW engine-powered A320 neo planes in IndiGo, and GoAir fleets have been facing glitches both mid-air and on-ground since their induction way back in 2016. Puri said on Twitter IndiGo has 134 A320neo, and A321neo aircraft and all of them have modified PW engines on them. The shares of IndiGo closed 1.55% higher on Tuesday. Indiabulls Housing Finance Indiabulls Housing Finance said Brickwork Ratings has assigned a short-term rating of A1 plus to the company, signifying the adequate degree of safety and low credit risk. The rating agency has reaffirmed the long-term rating at AA-plus, suggesting a high degree of safety and very low credit risk, the company said in its regulatory filing. The shares of Indiabulls Housing Finance closed 1.95% lower on September 16. Future Enterprises Kishore Biyani led Future Enterprises reported a consolidated net loss of ₹322.92 crore for the quarter ended on June 30. Its revenue from operations was down 87.31% to ₹179.39 crore during the quarter under review. The shares of Indiabulls Housing Finance closed 4% higher on September 16. IDBI Bank According to news reports, the state-owned Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) is planning to sell its 51% stake in IDBI Bank in tranches. The war of the founders is another blow to the Indian aviation industry where many carriers are in trouble – from Jet Airways shutting shop to a debt ridden Air India struggling to make ends meet. But the news of the meeting made Indigo investors happy. Shares of Interglobe Aviation jumped 3.08% to ₹1374, as hopeful investors think the feud might finally be coming to an end. This could also lead to the possibility of an existing promoter leaving or a strategic investor coming on board. He is talking about improving the governance – an equal number of people representing major shareholders. If that doesn’t happen, he will keep his options open. We have to wait for the meeting to understand more and see what really happens,” Amrit Pandurangi, an aviation expert told Business Insider. The logic behind the EGM Experts believe that Gangwal hopes that with this EGM, members of the board will understand his logic or argument. He will insist that special policy decisions or strategy decisions have to be taken when the full board is present. Earlier, Gangawal raised questions on the governance of Indigo and related party transactions. “Suppose he does not have this, even if he wants to exit he would like to do this from a position of strength rather than as somebody who did not get support and is that’s why moving out. But whether he wants to or not, remains to be seen. We should not look so far yet,” said Pandurangi. ‘Lack of checks and balances’ In June last year, Gangwal wrote to the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), alleging multiple violations at Indigo. This led to the differences between Gangwal and Bhatia coming out in the open. Gangwal had then written that he had entered into a shareholder’s agreement with Bhatia, which gave the latter controlling rights over the majority of decisions at Indigo. “I hadn't contemplated that over the years, Bhatia would start building an ecosystem of other companies that would enter into dozens of related party transactions with IndiGo.
