The messaging was serious to the point of solemn, with little space to forget for even a moment the official party line: that President Donald Trump's reelection posed an existential threat; the only way to reject hundreds of years of racial injustice was to get him out of office; and that with COVID-19, it was quite literally a matter of life or death.This time around, the vibe shift was apparent and on full display at the DNC.Though there was imagery of January 6, 2021, and speakers, including Vice President Harris in her keynote address, outlined concerns about protecting democracy, there was much less doom and gloom than four years ago.Take the current favorite criticism for Trump and allies: that they're simply "weird" and "small" — a far cry from the moral outrage of 2020 or even from President Joe Biden's 2024 message.The convention speakers have been leaning into joy — a word speakers have used to describe the kind of president <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-kamala-harris-can-attract-ceo-business-leaders-mark-cuban-2024-8">Harris</a> would be.While the 2020 DNC was virtual, its tone was noticeably different. Bernie Sanders, and Sen. The DNC <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.axios.com/2024/08/22/dnc-palestinian-american-speech-denied">declined to allow a Palestinian speaker at the convention</a> due to fears over not showing unity within the party — but also served as another signifier that the party was not going out of its way to include liberal activists as it was in 2020.The convention often focused on reaching out to folks with different views — former President Barack Obama and former President Bill Clinton both made that pitch — and appealing to moderates, independents, and Republicans. A long list of Republican speakers, from former elected officials to people who served in the Trump White House, gave speeches that sought to appeal directly to Republicans and independents.The speakers this year even focused more on issues that could win over moderates, like <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/dnc-night-3-immigration-speakers/">immigration</a> (Javier Salazar, sheriff of Bexar County, Texas, was one of the speakers) and the economy. Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, a moderate Democrat, specifically called for investing in "the police and in the community."In 2020, <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.nytimes.com/2020/08/21/us/politics/dnc-takeaways-biden-obama.html">The New York Times</a> reported Democrats were split over how much bipartisanship mattered, but the Democratic Party of 2024 seems far more sure that it does. The party appeared to be trying to hold together the coalition that helped <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.pewresearch.org/politics/2021/06/30/behind-bidens-2020-victory/">elect Biden in 2020</a>, but whom the Democrats were having a hard time reaching again with <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/2024/08/21/kamala-harris-gains-polls-00175262">Biden as the candidate in 2024</a>.There is one key way that the Democratic Party needs to replicate 2020 — or even the 2018 midterms — and that is turnout on Election Day, which speakers reminded DNC attendees. In response to a query from stock exchanges, Paytm said the notice is not a new development, and it is in regulatory contact with the market regulator to make required representations. According to Paytm's financial year 2024 annual result filing, it had issued 2.1 crore employee stock options (ESOP) to Sharma in the financial year 2022. SEBI had issued a show cause notice to Paytm on ESOP issued to Sharma. "This is not a new development, as the Company had already made relevant disclosures on this matter in its financial results for the quarter and year ended March 31, 2024, as well as the quarter ended June 30, 2024. The Company is in regular communication with the <keyword id="19970553" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="securities-exchange-board-of-india" source="keywords">Securities Exchange Board of India</keyword> (SEBI) and making necessary representations regarding this matter," Paytm said in response to a stock exchange query. The disclosure made on May 22 and July 19 said that Paytm has submitted its preliminary response and is in the process of seeking further information from the regulator in this regard. "Based on an independent legal opinion obtained by the management, it believes that the Company is compliant with the relevant regulations. Accordingly, there is no impact on the financial results for the year ended March 31, 2024," the filing said. Shares of One97 Communications Ltd, which owns the Paytm brand, on Monday dropped over 4% amid reports that SEBI has issued show-cause notices to Vijay Shekhar Sharma and board members who served during its IPO in November 2021 for alleged misrepresentation of facts. The stock tanked 4.41 % to settle at Rs 530.05 apiece on the BSE. During the day, it plunged 8.88 % to Rs 505.25. On the NSE, shares of the firm dropped 4.47 % to Rs 530. Intra-day, the stock tumbled 8.88 % to Rs 505.55. The company's market valuation declined by Rs 1,534.23 crore to Rs 33,731.56 crore. Earlier in the day, BSE sought clarification from One 97 Communications Ltd with reference to news that Vijay Shekhar Sharma, Paytm directors face SEBI show-cause notices over initial public offering (IPO) breaches, particularly on ESOPs allotted to MD and CEO Vijay Shekhar Sharma. In response to a query from stock exchanges, Paytm said the notice is not a new development, and it is in regulatory contact with the markets regulator to make required representations.

In the footage, a Taiwanese F-16 uses its sniper pod surveillance system to track a Chinese J-15, presumably from the Chinese carrier that participated in the Chinese drills. The F-16's Sniper Advanced Targeting Pod, developed by Lockheed Martin, is a device that allows aircraft to detect and track targets. Lockheed <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.lockheedmartin.com/en-us/products/sniper.html">describes</a> the sniper pod as a "lightweight" system capable of handling "the most challenging precision targeting and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance" missions.In the video, the F-16 keeps a lock on the J-15 as it flies across the sky. The fourth-generation J-15 is a multirole fighter derived from the Russian Su-33 that serves as a carrier-based aircraft. China is working on a next-generation aircraft, but for now, the Shenyang J-15 is the primary fighter jet for China's carrier air wings.During the "Joint Sword-2024B" drill, China's first carrier, the Liaoning, was operating to the southeast of Taiwan. China released video footage of the carrier launching jets during the exercise. Drucker details how years before the insurrection Pence remained unfailingly loyal to Trump while carving out a high degree of independence and autonomy from the president behind the scenes. That including serving as the White House's point person for corporate leaders and lobbyists, and building up his own political operation, including his own PAC, with his own advisers outside the confines of the West Wing's operations. Ironically, Drucker argues, <a href="https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2021/02/11/trump-impeachment-trial-timeline-trump-actions-during-capitol-riot/6720727002/">Trump throwing Pence under the bus and publicly breaking with him</a> over the former VP's refusal may end up boosting Pence's standing and prospects in 2024. Trump denouncing Pence, Drucker writes, was the necessary clean break that will allow Pence to occupy his own distinct lane in 2024. "Pence was always going to have to untether himself from Trump, eventually. January 6 accomplished that. In the process, it saved the vice president from having to manufacture independence from Trump," Drucker wrote.
