You can just buy the laptop from Jio, which will likely feature an entry-level chipset. All the computing and storage will occur on the JioCloud and you will need an active internet connection to access this data, unlike traditional laptops where you can access files on your device without the need of an internet connection. “The cost of a laptop depends on its hardware like memory, processing power, chipset etc. The greater capacity of these hardware increases costs as well as battery power. What we are doing is, we are stripping all this and the whole processing of the laptop will happen at the back end in the Jio cloud,” an official familiar with the matter told ET. In addition to the cost of the laptop, the user will reportedly also be charged a monthly subscription fee to use this service. At the moment, there is no information about what the subscription plans will look like but we can expect multiple tiers, based on performance and storage capacity.
