The company said that it repurposed the state-of-the-art perfume facility on a war footing to produce an additional 1,25,000 litres of Savlon sanitizers. “ITC repurposed its recently commissioned perfume manufacturing facility in Manpura, Himachal Pradesh to manufacture Savlon Hand Sanitizers. This initiative reinforces our efforts to enable enhanced production and supply of Savlon range of hygiene products in the market which is the need of the hour,” said Sameer Satpathy, chief executive of personal care products at ITC.

ITC announces a ₹150 crore Covid-19 contingency fund

The hospitality industry has taken up various measures to overcome the impact due to lockdown to contain spread of <keyword id="1754604" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="coronavirus">coronavirus</keyword> which include paycuts, use of short staff besides engaging in partial operation, officials said.Industry representatives said while some hotels have chosen not to entertain new guests, some have stepped up hygiene and sanitisation measures which include new form of greeting instead of the the earlier 'handshake'. According to the Residency Group of <keyword id="9145897" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="hotels-coo-gopinath">Hotels COO Gopinath</keyword>, they have decided to use the form of keeping the right hand diagonally across the chest on top of the heart as a mark of greeting instead of the regular 'handshake'. "This kind of greeting we have started to adopt while welcoming guests. It may be new concept but through this we are avoiding handshake," he told P T I. Enhancing their approach in containing the spread of virus in the premises, he said they have also planned to appoint a 'hygiene butler' who would be one-point contact to customers asking for more details on sanitisation measures taken up by the group. "There will be one person in each of our property to assist the guests," he said. He replied in the affirmative when asked if they were mulling pay cuts for employees and said they were considering use of less manpower. "We are using only two floors and air-conditioning is provided for the respective floors instead of the earlier 10 floors. We have also asked some employees to go on leave," he said. Another hospitality service provider and largest lodging owners and operators Ascott Ltd which operates two properties -Somerset Greenways Chennai and Citadines OMR- is also focused on creating more awareness on hygiene measures inview of the pandemic. Ascott Ltd, area general manager <keyword id="9145896" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="supriya-malhotra">Supriya Malhotra</keyword> said they were serving over about 200 guests staying at the two properties in Chennai. "Throughout this challenging period, our resilient team has been working hard round-the-clock to ensure our properties are safe (from coronavirus)...," she said. Highlighting some of the initiatives, she said the two properties have introduced the concept of letting guests opt for self-cooking besides appointing a guest services person to take care of customers groceries shopping so that they stay indoors. Based on the grocery list, a staff would purchase the items ensuring only one person steps out of property to buy essentials instead of a guest having to step out, she said. Another initiative was provision of mobile ATM parked at their properties so that the guests can make financial transactions within the campus itself. Guests have to sign a declaration detailing their travel history and health status while they have to undergo screening for fever, cold or cough before entering the properties, she said. The properties have also encouraged customers not to take part in groups in public areas while places like lift buttons, doorknobs, reception desk were sanitized on an hourly basis, she said. Hotel personnel were also trained in processes of hygiene protocol and also undergo training on health and safety measures. "A dedicated central cross-functional team has been formed which would be available on a 24x7 basis to support group hotels and to coordinate with relevant authorities", it said. Hospitality industry mulls pay cuts and job cuts to tide over lockdown woes

New Delhi, Mar 5 () Hand sanitizer makers have seen up to 10-fold jump in demand, as the number of coronavirus cases in India is on the rise. The companies have increased the production amid reports of non-availability of hand sanitizers in the market, as people have started buying them after cases of coronavirus appeared in the national capital region. "We have seen a 10 times demand for hand sanitizers over the last month," The Himalaya Drug Company CEO Philipe Haydon told . He further said, "We are ramping up our production line to cater to the demand of sanitizers and handwashes nationwide that can help people take precautionary measures. We launched awareness drives on hand hygiene in the year 2000." FMCG firm Godrej Consumer Products Ltd (GCPL), which is also present in the hand sanitizer segment, has also witnessed the similar trends and the company has increased the production of Protekt hand sanitizers and hand wash. "We have ramped up our production capacity. We are also trying to ramp up through our vendors also," Godrej Consumer Products Ltd CEO (India and SAARC) Sunil Kataria told . HUL, which sells Lifebouy hand sanitizers, has also redoubled its efforts to make the products accessible in such time. "Given the surge in demand for hygiene products, we have redoubled our efforts to ensure that consumers have access to products that keep them safe such as Lifebuoy hand sanitizers and hand wash," said an HUL spokesperson. Some FMCG firms are also educating consumers by engaging their brands to communicate with the consumers, through special campaigns on digital and mainstream media, to make them aware about the benefits of regular hands wash as prevention for coronavirus. The companies have assured that they have enough stocks to tackle the situation. "We have ramped up our production capacity. We are also trying to ramp up through our vendors also," Godrej Consumer Products Ltd CEO (India and SAARC) Sunil Kataria told . However, he also added that hand santizers are premium products in India. "The way we have to address this problem is through that we all need to communicate the right education to the people and send messages to the consumers that best precaution and prevention from coronavirus is regularly washing hands," he added. The latest Youtube video show Yippee noodles being made in a sanitized environment in its factory. 
 Similarly, <keyword id="3026737" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Gujarat-Cooperative-Milk-Marketing-Foundation">Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Foundation</keyword> (GCMMF), the maker behind the Amul brand of dairy products has been running ads emphasizing on the fact that their products are undergoing regular quality checks. Its rival, Mother Dairy is also not behind. Its ad campaign doing the rounds on social media shows its consumer on a plant visit. 
 
Meanwhile Nestle, the brand which was worst hit by regulators is already plotting the comeback of Maggi, piggybacking on its recent Maggi videos attracting around nine lakhs views in three days. 
 
"These short films reflect the spontaneity and affection between consumers and Maggi. We are making efforts to get Maggi Noodles back on the shelves and have been overwhelmed by the messages of love and support that we receive each day. Such messages strengthen our resolve to be back with our beloved consumers. We want to share the warmth of our relationship through these films," told a Nestle Indian spokesperson to Economic Times.

With most workers either leaving for their hometowns or staying at home during the lockdown, it would be a challenge to ensure smooth functioning," Dabur India Executive Director (Operations) <keyword id="6357753" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Shahrukh-Khan">Shahrukh Khan</keyword> told . Sharing similar experience, an ITC <keyword id="6357308" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Spokesperson">spokesperson</keyword> said, "While we have progressively obtained permissions in some states, availability of trucks continues to be the biggest challenge at the moment. Interstate and local truck movement has been severely impacted together with the challenge of shortage of manpower in factories." The spokesperson further said, "We believe it will take a few more days for the entire ecosystem and processes to be streamlined for movement of essential goods." On movement of goods, Khan said the situation has eased a bit with approvals for plant operations and movement of trucks coming in. "These have eased some of the big bottlenecks that the industry was facing for movement of raw materials, packing materials and finished products. It would certainly help in kick-starting the functioning of the supply chain," Khan added. When specifically asked about stock situation, the ITC spokesperson said, "In these trying times, it is critical to ensure adequate availability of essential food and hygiene products in the country. On the ability of companies to produce to meet demand, Shah said that with 50 per cent of workers allowed, production is being managed through shift systems. "Quantum of production would go down substantially but the idea is to ensure that at least there is food available on the shelves and at no point in time there should be any panic in the market," he said adding that there would not be complete absence of food for 5-6 days, even if any shop runs out of stick it would be available the next day. <ul><li>Online shopping will continue to boom even after the <keyword id="1754604" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="coronavirus">Coronavirus</keyword> pandemic comes to an end.</li><li>Shoppers will be more conscious of retailers' sanitation, health and safety practices.</li><li>Online shopping may accelerate but customers want timely delivery, compensation for cancellation and the option to make digital payments.</li></ul>India is under lockdown and most people, especially those in urban areas, are now <keyword id="78371" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="shopping-online">shopping online</keyword>. That’s unlikely to change and may even increase once the lockdown regulations are relaxed according to a Capgemini report. Their analysis shows that the appetite for online shopping is set to increase by nearly 20% in the next six to nine months, but that shift won’t be without its terms and conditions. Even though more people will be shopping online, most of them want certain assurances to be in place — including the promise of timely delivery, compensation in case an order is cancelled, sanitary or contactless transactions, and higher integration of online payment platforms. However, for every action, there’s normally an equal and an opposite reaction. In this case, offline stores will be taking a hit if they can’t adapt. In the post-COVID world, only 46% of people will be looking to shop at physical stores as compared to 56% before the Coronavirus pandemic hit, according to the report. On-time deliveries and flexible timings — an opportunity for delivery platforms Capgemini’s analysis shows that over 70% of Indian consumers want the promise of timely delivery. Where an order does get cancelled, they want assurances that they will be adequately compensated. This is a huge opportunity for delivery platforms to partner with grocery chains — something that Zomato and Swiggy are already doing. Their fluid workforce even allows them to deal with fluctuations in demand and supply. Even Domino’s is taking a crack at it by partnering with ITC to deliver essential goods. Aside from the assurance of delivery, consumers also want to have the option to choose when they want their stuff delivered. They will prefer to shop from whichever retailer is giving them the option to choose from different flexible delivery timings — convenience is key. The other facet of convenience is the option to pay through whichever payment gateway is most accessible. While some choose to pay using Paytm, others want Google Pay. But the central crux is that online payment has to be an option for nearly 80% of Indians. Cash and ATMs have been flagged for being potential ways to contract the coronavirus, which is why going cashless has become more important than ever before. Sanitation will take centre stage Nearly 90% of the people surveyed by Capgemini said that they will be more cautious about issues of cleanliness, health and safety even once the lockdown is over. And, they want to see their service providers exercise the same level of caution. Three-fourths of Indians will choose to shop from retailers who adopt safety practices in their stores, especially since most of them plan to increase their shopping of groceries and household supplies in the coming six to nine months. Everyone, grocery stores and consumers alike, will be facing a cash crunch. Capgemini estimates that most people will be looking to cut down on their luxury and discretionary spending. ‘Dark stores’ is a way for businesses to survive Since physical stores are facing a lot of uncertainty due to the pandemic, ‘going dark’ might be one way to survive. ‘Dark stores’ are retail outposts that stock all the necessary goods, but their sole purpose is to fulfil online orders — not open up their doors to offline customers. For larger grocery chains, using dark stores can be a way to meet their online requirements while also ensuring that their in-store customers aren’t disrupted. For stores to remain open, it will be crucial to ensure that the social distancing norms are built into their layout. Crowded and narrow grocery aisles won’t cut it anymore as people look to avoid congestion. Shopping online will boom in the post COVID world — but not without its terms and conditions

Once known for its stronghold on the tobacco industry, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=ITC">ITC</a> has come a long way. Venturing into lifestyle largely and then into <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/topic/fmcg">FMCG</a> products, this <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Kolkata">Kolkata</a> based company has efficiently removed the tag of being a tobacco brand. Now, the FMCG-Hospitality conglomerate plans to expand its portfolio to health and home care segments as well. 
 
Having acquired Savlon from Johnson &amp; Johnson about six months back, ITC will be introducing hand wash, hand sanitizer, shower gel and floor, glass and toilet cleaners under the brand. 
 
"By the end of next year, ITC plans to bring nearly 100 different packs across variants within these categories, each competing directly with Reckitt Benckiser brands," one of the officials said. 
 
Dettol, the uncrowned king in this segment has been enjoying the leverage for quite a long time. British consumer giant <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Reckitt+Benckiser">Reckitt Benckiser</a>, which manufactures the antiseptic also has other brands like Harpic, Lizol and Colin. However, Savlon had sales of Rs 65 crore during fiscal 2014, trailing Dettol. Now that Savlon has an insignificant presence in hand wash, ITC may play a bigger role in changing the game. 
 
India has a Rs 16,000-crore soaps market, where <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=unilever">Unilever</a>’s Lifebuoy controls the highest market share with 17%. Dettol has a 7.7% market share and ITC’s Vivel has a 2.5% share. 
ITC aims to achieve Rs 1 lakh crore by 2030, which is almost a 10 folds jump from its present revenue of Rs 9,038 crore. 
 
Within the personal care business, the company has not been able to gain substantial traction as it did in deodorants, where it became the second-largest brand. The cash cow - packaged foods - is perhaps the only one that has been performing well, after being the second-largest snack maker, largest branded atta company as well as the third-largest biscuit maker in the country.

How Savlon could soon be the new ‘Dettol’

Winning streak for Aditya <keyword id="118437" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Birla-group">Birla Group</keyword> continued as it yet again topped Neilsen’s Corporate Monitor (CIM) 2014-15 survey that measures reputation of leading companies in India. 
 While, the Birla conglomerate retained the top spot for three years in a row now, <keyword id="42747" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Tata-Motors">Tata Motors</keyword> bagged the second spot, followed by ITC, <keyword id="6355975" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Axis-Bank">Axis Bank</keyword> and Tata Steel. 
 
The survey, shared exclusively with Economic Times, was conducted across 42 companies with over 2,000 respondents in eight metros. 
 
"As a high-performance driven group, we are constantly focusing on building our talent pool to support our business vision. To this end, substantive initiatives taken earlier have since materialised. These include focused endeavours to build a robust talent pipeline; extending the employer brand of our group beyond India; achieving the distinction of becoming the most aspirational employer for professionals and augmenting talent on the technical side," Kumar Mangalam Birla, Chairman of Aditya Birla Group, told ET. 
 
This year, Axis Bank and Reliance Communication broke into the top-10 list. 
 
Some of the parameters for the survey were trust, transparency, demonstration of vision and leadership, financial performance, perceptions of company product and services, workplace environment. 
 
While the Birla Group came up on top for vision and leadership, financial performance and operating style, Tata Steel bagged the top position on product and service quality and workplace management. 
 
"A strong corporate image is one that effectively communicates the company's brand and philosophy. In order to recruit top talent, a company needs to be able to project itself and provide a good idea of what it really represents," a Tata Motors spokesperson told the financial daily. 
 
Meanwhile, Executive Director of Nielsen India, Ajay Macaden, said this year they saw interesting trends. 
 
"With increasing awareness that both the consumer and company have about the concept of reputation, this year saw some interesting trends based on the study. Most of the companies that have made it to the top ten are very visible in the media and have high involvement among large set of stakeholders," said Ajay Macaden, executive director, Nielsen India. 
 
He added that an increasing focus on ad spends, communicating via technology and innovation have helped consumers spontaneously recall and talk about certain banking and finance sector companies, an improvement from last year. 
 
Meanwhile, ITC topped in corporate social responsibility. 
 
"Stakeholders, investors and consumers continue to look for quality and talent within the top companies in India. They have also upped the ante on judging companies on the basis of their CSR activities, with sanitation and healthcare education being of critical importance,” Macaden told ET.

Godrej Group: The Godrej Group announced that it is earmarking a fund of Rs 50 crore for community support and relief initiatives in India.
