New Delhi: India's <keyword id="19913114" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="initial-public-offering" source="keywords">Initial Public Offering</keyword> (IPO) market witnessed a resurgence in 2024, with a total of 272 companies going public compared to 164 during the previous fiscal year, highlights a report by <keyword id="19901201" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="SEBI" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="SEBI" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="SEBI">SEBI</keyword>.<br /><br />The market regulator SEBI stated that upbeat secondary markets, enthusiasm from retail investors, and strong institutional flows set the stage for a flurry of new listings.<br /><br />"After a relative moderation during 2022-23, the equity segment witnessed a resurgence in fundraising activity during the current fiscal. The <keyword id="19926041" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="IPO-market" source="keywords">IPO market</keyword> had been vibrant with a total of 272 companies going public as compared to 164 during the last fiscal year," said SEBI.<br /><br />The report also noted that India received the highest <keyword id="20018891" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="foreign-investment" source="keywords">foreign investment</keyword> in the year 2023-24, as the investment surged to a new high of Rs 3.4 lakh crore. It also added that the investment in the year 2023-24 is the highest since the year 1992-93.<br /><br />"Compared to net outflows of Rs 40,936 crore in 2022-23, FPIs invested Rs 3.4 lakh crore in India during 2023-24, which was the highest since 1992-93," said SEBI.<br /><br />SEBI highlighted that Foreign Portfolio Investment and foreign venture capital investment are crucial for emerging economies like India. FY 2023-24 was an exceptional year for India in terms of foreign portfolio investment flows.<br /><br />It added that India's continuing growth resilience, financial stability, reining in of inflation, fiscal consolidation coupled with the persistence of inflation in advanced economies, uncertain geopolitical scenarios, etc., attracted a record level of foreign flows to India.<br /><br />The report noted that in the midst of a subdued global economic scenario with recession risks and monetary tightening, India's economic prospects were bright among emerging markets, driven by a fillip in manufacturing and service sector activities, easing inflation, fiscal consolidation, financial stability, and buoyant <keyword id="20977711" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="market-performance" source="keywords">market performance</keyword>.<br /><br />According to the sector-wise breakup on FPI investment, the report stated that out of the consolidated Rs 64.2 lakh crore equity assets held by FPIs, Rs 18.6 lakh crore were invested in financial services, followed by oil, gas, and consumable fuels (Rs 6.0 lakh crore), information technology (Rs 5.9 lakh crore), and automobile and auto components with Rs 4.8 lakh crore invested. <br /><br />

In FY24, 272 companies went public as compared to 164 in FY23: SEBI

Economists at the country's largest lender, SBI, today said they see India's Q2 real GDP growth slowing down further to 6.5% in the September quarter of this fiscal year. Amid concerns over the country's economic growth rate and whether it is slowing down, the analysts said they expect FY25 growth to come "closer to" 7%.<br /> <br />SBI analysts join a long line of agencies like Fitch, ADB, IMF, Moody, World Bank, S&amp;P, and even RBI in forecasting India's GDP growth for FY25 in the range of 6.8% to 7.2% for FY25, driven by robust consumption and investment. SIP inflows have been at an all-time high, and so has QIP (qualified institutional placement) fundraising. As many as 71 companies raised Rs 88,678 crore this year through QIPs. <br /><br /> Activity in Indian primary markets also remained robust, with 78 mainboard IPOs in 2024; this is a 111% rise from just 38 listings in FY23.  Between April and June 2024, India's real GDP grew by 6.7%, the lowest growth seen in 15 quarters, pushing experts to believe that India is caught in a cycle of slowdown. <br /><br /> "There is some incipient pressure evident on the domestic economy. Based on our analysis of 50 meaningful leading indicators (both consumption and demand-centric), a dip looks plausible across select cohorts of agriculture, industry, and services in Q2," the <keyword id="22337294" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="SBI-economists" source="keywords">SBI economists</keyword> added.<br /><br />Stating that they track 50 indicators to gauge economic activity, SBIs note said the proportion of indicators showing acceleration declined to 69% in Q2 FY25, as against 80% in Q2 FY24 and 78% in Q1 FY25.<br /><br /> However, things might be changing now, given that rural demand has started looking up amidst muted urban demand. SBI also explained that the ongoing regulatory tightening on unsecured lending and roadblocks that are hindering rollover/refinancing of debt through unsecured credit are dismantling the unwarranted exuberance that had built up post-pandemic, especially in the urban areas.<br /><br />Madhu Lunawat, CIO &amp; Fund Manager, Bharat Value Fund states that the overall investment environment remains strong due to favorable economic conditions supporting government policies &amp; reforms. "The sustainable inflow from domestic investors is going to support the Indian equity market in any kind of correction. The long-term bullish structure of Indian economy will continue to attract new domestic &amp; global investors to participate in India’s growth story through various Investment avenues.”<br /><br /><h2>Rate cuts not on cards</h2>RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das clarified today that changing the monetary policy stance to 'neutral' does not mean a rate cut is imminent in the central bank's next policy announcement. Notably, RBI MPC is set to meet between December 4 and 6, 2024, to decide if the prevailing repo rate of 6.5%, which has stayed unchanged for the last 2 years, should be brought down or not. <br /><br />In its last meeting, The <keyword id="20501100" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="RBI-monetary-policy" source="keywords">RBI monetary policy</keyword> committee had shifted its stance to 'neutral' indicating that it is open to adjusting interest rates based on economic conditions.<br /><br /> "It should not be assumed that we have done this, so therefore the next step is a rate cut. A change in stance doesn't mean that the next step is a rate cut in the very next meeting. It's not so," Das said.<br /><br /> Das also cautioned that inflation remains a key factor, and inflation and CPI prints for October are expected to stay high.<br /><br />

This will be the first market outside South Kores where the country is listed.<br /><br />Hyundai, which entered the Indian market in 1996 is one of the top automakers in India, moving between the second and third spots. The company emerged as the second biggest automaker in Hyundai. Since it entered the Indian market, the company has sold over 80 lakh cars in the country.<br /><br />Hyundai intends to establish India as a global manufacturing and export hub for the company and this might be an initial step in this direction.<br /><br />KFin Technologies is the registrar for the public issue and advisors for the issue include Kotak Investment Banking, Citi, HSBC, JP Morgan and Morgan Stanley.<br /><br /><h2>India’s biggest IPO</h2>Hyundai India is looking to raise ₹27,870 crore from the IPO, significantly higher than the ₹21,008 crore raised by the state-owned Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) in 2022, making it the biggest IPO in India’s history.<br /><br /><div type="Article" hostid="261" msid="111690863" title="The biggest IPOs in India’s history – LIC to Paytm, companies that have raised the most funds" mstype="2" mssubtype="0"></div><br /><h2>About the IPO</h2>The upcoming IPO from Hyundai is entirely an offer for sale (OFS), with the company looking to offload up to 17.5% of shares, which is 14.22 crore shares with a price band of ₹1865 to ₹1,960 per share. Bids can be made in a lot size of 7 shares or multiples of 7 shares.<br /><br />The IPO opens on October 15 and will close on October 18. While the allotment will be finalised on October 18, the shares will be listed on the stock exchange on October 22.<br /><br />At the upper end of the price band, Hyundai Motor India will be valued at $18 billion (approx. ₹1.6 lakh crore), which is around 40% of its parent company, Hyundai Global’s $45 billion valuation.<br /><br />As it is entirely an OFS, the company won’t receive any funds and all the funds raised will go to Hyundai Global. However, the company has said that part of the funds will be allocated towards research and development, especially in electric vehicles (EVs) and hybrid technologies.<br /><br />The company has reserved 7.78 lakh shares with a value of ₹131 to ₹138 crore for employees. Employees will get these shares at a discount of ₹186 per share.<br /><br /><h2>First carmaker in over two decades to go public</h2>In addition to being the biggest IPO in the country’s history, this will also make the company the first car maker to go public in India in over two decades. During the 3-month period from April to June 2024, the company earned a revenue of ₹17,567.98 crore.<br /><br />The company recorded a profit after tax (PAT) of ₹6,060.04 crore in FY24, up from ₹4,709.25 crore in FY23 and ₹2,901.59 crore in FY22. The company recorded a PAT of ₹1,489.65 crore from April to June 2024.<br /><br />“Hyundai Motor India is seeking a slightly higher premium to Maruti and lower to M&amp;M based on price earnings ratio while Hyundai stands to be expensive in terms of price to book value. Hyundai India justifies its premium ask considering its leadership in SUV sales, world-class brand image followed by better safety ratings, Multi-segment growth visibility largely been driven by its popular SUVs, particularly the Creta, Exter, and Venue models in the Indian market,” said Prashanth Tapse, Senior VP (Research), Mehta Equities.<br /><br /><h2>Hyundai paid ₹10,780 crore dividend in FY24</h2>Ahead of the IPO, Hyundai paid a ₹10,780 crore dividend in FY24, up from ₹4,653.42 crore dividend in FY23 and ₹1,493.45 crore dividend in FY22.<br /><br />With this, the company’s cash and bank balance has declined from ₹17,741.15 crore a year ago to ₹9,017.35 crore.<br /><br /><div type="Article" hostid="261" msid="113925972" title="September Auto sales – Automakers report a decline, Mahindra and Mahindra overtakes Tata Motors" mstype="2" mssubtype="0"></div><br />“As a result, our ability to utilise our internal accruals and cash and bank balances has been reduced. Any resultant insufficiency in our internal accruals and cash and bank balance may require us to borrow money to meet our growth requirements and incur borrowing costs, which may adversely impact our profitability, financial ratios and results of operations,” the company said in its Red Herring Prospectus (RHP).<br /><br /><h2>Declining grey market premium</h2>Grey market premium (GMP) is the premium at which IPO shares are traded in an unofficial market before they are listed on the stock exchanges. In essence, it is the premium above the issue price of a share.<br /><br />The GMP of Hyundai has been on a decline, from ₹570 around two weeks ago to ₹130.<br /><br /><h2>Key risks to remember</h2>Here are some of the key risks that the business faces:<br /><br /><h3>Rising part prices</h3>There has been an increase in prices of key vehicle parts over the years, especially chipsets. A further rise in price may impact the company’s profitability in the coming years.<br /><br /><h3>Production disruptions</h3>The company has said that any disruption to its Chennai plant will adversely impact the production and the company’s finances.<br /><br /><h3>Supplier dependency</h3>Another risk to keep in mind is the company’s dependency on its suppliers. Any disruption in its supply chain will adversely impact its production and profitability.<br /><br /><h3>Competition</h3>Hyundai alternates between the second and third position in the Indian car market.
