The channel denied the charge in a statement. "The clip, taken during a training session on May 16 at Wankhede stadium, for which Star Sports had authorised access, momentarily showed the senior player in conversation with his friends on the sidelines. No audio from this conversation was either recorded or broadcast. "The clip, which only showed the senior player requesting for the audio of his conversation to not be recorded, got featured in Star Sports' live coverage of pre-match preparations and lacked editorial relevance beyond this," the channel stated. This will be applicable for 10 matches including all the India games, semi-finals and finals. The broadcaster said that this is the first time that the T20 World Cup will be telecast with sign language and descriptive commentary making "cricket more immersive for its deaf, hard-of-hearing and visually-impaired users." Minister of Information and Broadcasting and Youth Affairs and Sports, Anurag Thakur, welcomed the move. "The Government of India is committed to creating an inclusive society and I strongly believe that this initiative will enhance the viewing experience for millions of differently-abled sports enthusiasts," he said in a press release. With this, Disney+Hotstar also becomes the first OTT platform to make ISL available for live cricket. Sajith Sivanandan, Head, Disney+ Hotstar India, said, "This underscores our commitment to promote inclusivity and serve all users. With these enhancements, we aim to ensure that the excitement of cricket knows no bounds." Sanjog Gupta, Head of Disney Star (Sports), said the innovation has got good response in the ongoing IPL. "Our mission of serving sports fans is powered by such pioneering initiatives which seek to remove barriers of access and engagement for fans from all walks of life. The impact player rule has had a heavy bearing on the ongoing edition with teams crossing 250-run mark as many as eight times so far. Players, coaches as well as experts have pointed out the challenges which the impact player rule poses to the bowlers, saying that it allows teams to have extended batting line-ups. India captain <keyword id="19899523" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rohit-Sharma" source="keywords">Rohit Sharma</keyword> has stated that the rule hurts all-rounders as they are not getting enough bowling opportunities. "Impact player rule was brought in as a test case. On the bright side, it is providing additional playing opportunities to two <keyword id="20619603" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-players" source="keywords">Indian players</keyword>," he said in an interaction with select media at the BCCI office here on Thursday. "Isn't it important that two Indian players are getting a chance? The game is also becoming more competitive," he added. Shah said all stakeholders will sit down in a meeting likely to be held after the <keyword id="19921630" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="T20-World-Cup" source="keywords">T20 World Cup</keyword> to decide on it. "But still, if the players feel that this is not alright we will speak on it. However, no one has said anything about it yet. After the IPL and the World Cup, we will have a meeting and decide," he said. "After the World Cup, we will consult with players, franchise and broadcasters and decide about the future course. It's not a permanent rule nor am I saying we will move past it," he added. Shah said India's T20 World Cup-bound players for the Caribbean and the USA, who are currently busy with the IPL, need no rest as competition is perfect preparation ahead of the mega event. "Why do you want to rest players? This is (as good as a) practice session, you cannot get any better opportunity (to prepare) than this," Shah said. "There is a cosmopolitan team in front of you, one team has a bowler from New Zealand, the other has a bowler from Australia and the next one has a bowler from Sri Lanka," he added. Shah said IPL is the best way to prepare for the Indian players as a Jasprit Bumrah gets a chance to gauge a marauding batter like Travis Head well ahead of the World Cup. "If we rest a bowler he won't get a chance to bowl at Travis Head. When (Jasprit) Bumrah will bowl to Travis Head, he will understand where to bowl to him and how. There is no better opportunity," he said. Focussing on women's cricket" Shah said the focus has also been on improving women's cricket by adding more fixtures to their calendar. "Women's cricket is going on full fledged and it is being managed no less than men's cricket. There is a World Cup in Bangladesh so we have maintained our bilateral relationship and played a series," Shah said. "We have put our focus 51 per cent on women's cricket and 49 per cent on men's because we are doing good in men's cricket so we are taking women's cricket on priority (basis). Their match fees has also increased so they have income as well," he added. However, Shah said there is no possibility of an increase in the number of teams for the Women's Premier League. "Let it be five teams for now. The media and sponsorship rights are set for five years and adding more teams will only create issues for them. The franchises have to sustain as well," he said. IPL 2024: CSK v LSG overall head-to-head; When and where to watch

New Delhi, The BCCI on Tuesday declared <keyword id="19907058" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="rishabh-pant" source="keywords">Rishabh Pant</keyword> fit to play as a wicketkeeper-batter in the upcoming IPL, brightening his prospects of a national comeback in the T20 World Cup after suffering multiple injuries in a harrowing car crash 14 months ago. Pant, who will once again be back as Delhi Capitals skipper, has undergone extensive rehabilitation and is ready to shoulder the dual responsibility in the event starting March 22, ending weeks of speculation surrounding his exact role in the league. "After undergoing an extensive 14-month rehab and recovery process, following a life-threatening road mishap on December 30th, 2022, near Roorkee, Uttarakhand, Rishabh Pant has now been declared fit as a wicket-keeper batter for the upcoming IPL 2024," said the BCCI in a statement. The T20 World Cup is scheduled to be held in the West Indies and the USA in June. A few weeks back, Pant, in an interaction with <keyword id="19925553" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="star-sports" source="keywords">Star Sports</keyword>, had recalled telling his doctor that he would shave off at least six months from his recovery timeline. "I asked the doctor how long will it take for me to recover. I told him that everybody is speaking different things, but you will give me the most clarity about it. He (Doctor) said it would take 16 to 18 months. I told the doctor from whatever timeline you give me, I will reduce six months from it," Pant had told the official TV broadcasters of IPL. The National Cricket Academy had declared him fit a week back after he passed all the fitness tests related to his 'Return To Play' (RTP). It has been learnt that he batted for long hours and more importantly, kept wickets for extensive periods in match simulations organised by the NCA. There was speculation that he might play only as an 'Impact Player' or batter but one of India's biggest match-winners in the past six years has managed to get back in shape to go full throttle. Pant keeping wickets also means that he would have a fair chance of playing the T20 World Cup if he can come up with some impactful innings during the IPL season. "If he can make the T20 World Cup for us, that will be a big thing for us. He is a big asset for us. If he can keep, he can play the World Cup. "If there was any nerve damage, there was a possibility of amputation. That is when I felt scared," Pant had said in Star Sports series 'Believe: To Death &amp; Back' which documented his recovery. "I had taken an SUV, but what I was seeing was a sedan," he quipped as he remembered his mangled vehicle. "There was someone around so I asked if he could help getting the leg back in the position. He helped the knee get back in place. "It was the first time I had such a feeling in life. At the time of the accident, I was aware of the wounds, but I was lucky as it could have been even more serious," he recollected. The big-hitter had said the process of recovery was boring at best and frustrating at worst. "I was focusing on recovery cut off from the world. It helped me in recovering fast, especially when the injury is so serious. For recovery, you have to do the same thing every day. Shami is not expected back before September this year. "The fast bowler successfully underwent surgery on February 26th, 2024, for his right heel problem. He is currently being monitored by the BCCI medical team and is ruled out of the upcoming IPL 2024," the BCCI statement read. Lanky fast bowler <keyword id="19916334" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="prasidh-krishna" source="keywords">Prasidh Krishna</keyword> (Rajasthan Royals), who had an unsuccessful Test debut in South Africa is also being monitored by the BCCI medical team. PTI had reported in January that Prasidh will be out for an extensive period. "The fast bowler underwent surgery on February 23rd, 2024, on his left proximal quadriceps tendon. Doordarshan had announced that Ramayan became the world's most-watched show on April 16, 2020 with 7.7 crore viewers. Doordarshan’s average daily viewers also grew by 62 million. The need for escapism, news updates and knowledge also increased in times of trouble, creating a need for content. As the lockdown restrictions eased in the country, GECs resumed their production in phases and the great advertising carnival of IPL brought the much-needed cheer for the broadcast industry and consumers in September. The year 2020, undoubtedly, had a far-reaching impact on consumer behaviour and their viewing patterns changed in 2021. Despite economic challenges that were accelerated with the second wave of COVID-19, legacy advertisers continued to increase spends on TV and starts-up were the biggest advertisers on IPL 2021. The second wave did take the industry a step back but television recovered gracefully as the festive season began in August. As per BARC, Ad Volumes on TV for September 2021 was the highest since 2019, which was 15%. The highest spurt was observed for Bhojpuri language channels, where ad volumes were more than double that of 2019, and 38% higher than in 2020. While Hindi language channels account for the largest share of TV advertising, Tamil and Telugu language channels witnessed robust growth over 2020. At the same time, with new changes in viewing patterns after the pandemic, over-the-Top platforms also posed a big threat to television viewership. However, broadcast players started realigning their goals, understanding these changing patterns and adopting agile approaches for content development. As a result, broadcasters have been working towards tailor-making their content that is adept to multiple platforms’ front-end user interfaces. This approach accelerated digital transformation in the broadcast industry by a few years and helped us believe that television and digital are indeed capable of growing hand-in-hand in India. This trend will continue to take shape further in 2022 as well. So as we move forward this year, the broadcast industry is optimistic about rising to its full strength together. We spoke to a few industry experts to discuss what lies ahead. It is evident in the way many billions of Indians have consumed long form content, multi-language content. Predominantly for the Indian market, expectations of the audience are very, very clear. What this is going to do is force all content makers to make good content. I think, right now, whatever the ratio of good content is -- the success rate was never very high because good content is a complex game plan. Now, 2022, it will be an opportunity as well as a challenge to the content creators to make compelling content and then the creators will start from this point of personal development. For me, compelling good content is a must have. Without that, there is no way out and that's the biggest opportunity we all have as an industry. Simran Hoon, CEO, The Q: With the hyper-dynamic market confusion and change in viewers’ preference, the manner and method of storytelling has gained prominence. Innovation in storytelling is hence the need of the hour and this will be one of the strongest trends that will emerge in the coming year. GEC’s will have to re-strategize to showcase content that is not just original and relevant but also interactive and engagement-driven. Another trend for 2022 is how content on Television is viewed. While Ad FCT at 1.6 billion seconds fell by 3.6% (over 2018), the share of Top 10 advertisers grew by 3.8%. The findings were a part of the second edition of BARC’s What India Watched report under which it measured 634 channels.Viewership has seen a 38% growth over the last four years. Each household watches 5 hours, 11 minutes of television every day and as many as 222 million individuals tune in to primetime television at any given minute. The report also found that despite the rollout of a new tariff order (NTO), <keyword id="659577" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="TV-viewership">TV viewership</keyword> registered a growth in 2019. GEC and movies continued to account for 3/4th of TV viewership. This growth in viewership has given an impetus to regional language markets. Share of viewership of channels other than Hindi and the 4 South languages have risen steadily, from 15% in 2016 to 23% in 2019. Viewership of most regional language channels have doubled in the same period. English Language channels have seen a decline in viewership - one reason is that sports content - which was traditionally broadcast largely in English - is increasingly available in Hindi and regional languages. Here, viewership for Hindi language channels have grown by 31% in the last 4 years and contributed to 44% of total TV viewership in 2019 Growth of the news genre 2019 saw a 23% growth in viewing minutes for News Channels over the previous year, with the genre accounting for 8.9% of total television viewing - its highest share over the last four years. 2019 was the year of General Elections, as well as polls to elect 7 State Assemblies. Earlier in the year, there was extensive news coverage of the Pulwama Terror Attack and the aftermath of that, including the Balakot Air Strike, and capture and release of Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman. Later in the year, the triple talaq debate and the abrogation of Article 370 dominated headlines. Beyond political affairs, there were several other developments that drove news viewership in 2019 - severe rains and floods in many parts of the country, Chandrayaan-2, the Ardh Kumbh Mela and ICC World Cup Cricket. These ensured high viewer interest through the year, across the country. The Maharashtra Legislative Assembly elections and the run-up to government formation, Supreme Court decision on Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid dispute and the controversy around Citizenship Amendment Act also led to successive viewership peaks for the news genre. Impact of NTO On February 1 2019, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI)'s New Tariff Order (NTO) for Broadcasting and Cable Services came into force. The report revealed that the NTO led to a drop in percentage of households that watched 30 channels or more on an average per week, while share of homes that watched 20 channels or less increased. Growth of sports channels In 2019, sports channels saw a growth of 17% (viewing minutes) over 2018. The genre contributed to 3.2% of total TV viewership in 2019 - which was the highest over the last 4 years. Beyond cricket, the most watched sports on TV are Kabaddi, Wrestling and Football. Together, they corner 85% of viewing minutes of non-cricket events. Moreover, in 2019, about 424 million viewers (which is 51% of the total TV viewing population) watched live matches of IPL-12. BARC India's Out of Home Measurement showed that an additional 9% watched the tournament in restaurants, pubs and other such ‘Out of Home’ locations. Urban vs Rural BARC India's BI-2018 Survey estimated that 44% individuals with access to TV live in Urban areas, while 56% are in Rural India. This is an outcome of higher TV penetration in Urban areas, given that television ownership is linked largely to economic status (among other factors like availability of power, cable TV distribution etc.). The Urban and Rural viewer profile has some key differences, which influence the respective character of TV consumption: While Rural India accounts for a higher viewership share than Urban India for GEC and Movies genre, the picture is reversed for the kids genre. In News, the viewership contribution is split evenly between Urban and Rural. Advertising on TV Over the last 4 years, the volume of advertising on TV (FCT) has grown by 21%. In 2019, 11,525 Advertisers ran 76.8 million ads across 634 measured channels that reached out to 197 million homes across India. All leading products and services use TV's huge reach to connect with their target consumers. Of these, FMCG occupies the top slot, accounting for 54% of ad duration in 2019. FMCG and e-Commerce were the two segments that increased their ad volumes on TV in 2019 over the previous year. In terms of genre share in advertising, GEC, Movies and News account for the largest share of Ad volumes (78% in 2019).

The uncertain global economic conditions and competition between JioCinema and <keyword id="421566" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="star-sports" source="Orion">Star Sports</keyword> for advertiser budgets have resulted in a weak start to IPL 2023. On the opening day, the number of TV advertisers was 40% lower than last year, with only 31 live match advertisers against 52 last year. <keyword id="50691" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="digital" source="Orion">Digital</keyword> advertising fared worse, with a 70% drop in advertisers on Day-1 compared to last year when Disney+ Hotstar held the rights. As per media buyers, who carry out competition audits, for Digital, the number of advertisers on Day 1 this year stood at just under 50, compared to 160 last year. It is worth noting that TV and digital advertisers often have different budget profiles, with larger advertisers typically choosing TV and smaller advertisers opting for digital. However, many notable advertisers from last year's IPL, such as <keyword id="3320944" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="byjus" source="Orion">Byjus</keyword>, Cred, Muthoot, and Netmeds, were absent this year. Despite the drop in advertisers, media buying agencies expect spending to pick up as viewership data from the opening match has been encouraging. As per BARC, Star Sports saw a 29% increase in TV ratings, with viewership reaching 140 million on the opening day. <keyword id="2003276" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="jio" source="Orion">Jio</keyword>Cinema reported a peak concurrency of 1.6 crore whereas Star Sports recorded 5.6 crore. Media reports suggest that Star Sports had clocked Rs 2,200 crore in ad revenues just ahead of the start of IPL 2023, while Jio had achieved Rs 1,400 crore. It is important to note that TV ad rates have seen a decrease this year, and the number of TV sponsors has decreased from 16 to 12 since last year's IPL. Disney Star holds the TV broadcasting rights for IPL, having spent $3 billion for the period from 2023-2027. Last year's IPL had around 100 TV advertisers and 200 advertisers on Digital in total. IPL 2023 opens with drop in advertisers: 40% drop for TV, 70% for digital

With every team playing at least one game in the IPL 2023 they have given a peek at their strengths and weaknesses in the early stage of the tournament. With their performances, all ten teams in IPL have displayed their game plans and strategies they will apply in the marquee competition. Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) - who won their opening games quite convincingly and ticked off all the boxes with their all-round show - look like a team to beat and in their early predictions the experts have backed these two sides to make it to the playoffs stage. When the whole country was confined to their homes, consumers turned to OTT platforms and TV channels to entertain themselves. The re-telecast of Ramayan alone garnered the highest-ever rating for a Hindi GEC show since 2015 at 1.20 trillion minutes and Doordarshan’s average daily viewers grew by 62 million. As the lockdown was lifted gradually and the economy started limping back to normalcy in July, television continued to be the screen of the household and an important medium for advertisers to reach their consumers.
