India has cleared the construction of its largest warship. The <keyword id="2738388" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="INS-Vishal">INS Vishal</keyword> would weigh around 65,000 tonnes and may have nuclear capabilities. It’ll join the ranks of the <keyword id="42407" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Navy">navy</keyword> in about a decade. 
 The <keyword id="754702" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Defence-Acquisition-Council">Defence Acquisition Council</keyword> (DAC) has invested Rs 30 crore to officially launch the project. The aircraft carrier-II (IAC-II) bears huge significance for the country as it’s competiting with China for the same strategic space in the <keyword id="12350" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-Ocean">Indian Ocean</keyword> region. The latest warship would give India huge strategic advantage. 
 
Aircraft carriers are the most powerful naval warfare equipment across the globe. They can travel 600 nautical miles a day with heavy arms on board. The INS Vishal would be able to launch fighter jets and heavier aircrafts from its deck. 
 
The possible reasons behind India’s step could be the increasing Chinese influence in the Indian Ocean. It has commissioned its first carrier Liaoning in 2012 and is currently building four more, two regulars and two 90,000-tonne nuclear-powered super carriers. 
 
Moreover, India’s INS Viraat will retire early next year. That leaves only INS Vikramaditya to lead the navy. The INS Vikrant is being built at the Cochin Shipyard, but will only be ready to join by 2018.

India's current INS Viraat aircraft carrier is set to retire next year after 56 years of service in the Indian navy. With a fleet of only 11 aging Harrier jump jets and a host of mechanical and restoration costs, it isn't economically or strategically viable to continue operating the vessel. As the retirement will leave the Indian navy with only one other carrier, the INS Vikramaditya. So India has decided to speed up the development of its own aircraft carrier, <a href="http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/India-now-puts-aircraft-carrier-plan-on-fast-track/articleshow/46336472.cms">according</a> to The Times of India.Although the vessel's exact size and propulsion system are still being proposed, India is planning for the Vishal to be a fully modern aircraft carrier. The Diplomat <a href="http://thediplomat.com/2015/02/indias-new-aircraft-carrier-plans-may-get-a-boost/">reports</a> that the Vishal will displace 65,000 tons and will be constructed with US-provided Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch Systems (EMALS). This would allow the carrier to launch aircraft at a faster rate with improved ease, compared to previous Indian carriers. Aside from EMALS, USNI News <a href="http://news.usni.org/2015/02/23/indian-navy-set-to-accelerate-second-indigenous-carrier-as-u-k-built-viraat-carrier-is-set-to-decommission-next-year">reports</a> THAT the carrier will likely also feature a catapult assisted take-off but arrested recovery (CATOBAR) system similar to what's used aboard <a href="http://www.naval-technology.com/projects/nimitz/">US Nimitz-class</a> aircraft carriers. This system would allow the Vishal to launch a range of heavy fighters as well as surveillance planes. The Times of India <a href="http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/India-now-puts-aircraft-carrier-plan-on-fast-track/articleshow/46336472.cms">estimates</a> that the Vishal should be complete within 10 to 12 years. The development of the carrier will likely receive significant help from a <a href="http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2015/01/25/us-india-joint-statement-shared-effort-progress-all">bilateral agreement</a> between the US and India that lays the ground for "a working group to explore aircraft carrier technology sharing and design."Aside from the Vishal, India is developing a smaller carrier, the INS Vikrant. Much of that vessel has already been constructed, and it is expected to be ready for induction in 2018 to 2019. China recently <a href="http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/India-suspicious-as-Chinese-submarine-docks-in-Sri-Lanka/articleshow/43672064.cms">raised Indian suspicions</a> by docking submarines at the port of Colombo in nearby Sri Lanka, and there is concern that Beijing is trying to construct a "<a href="http://csis.org/publication/pacnet-7-pla-n-chinese-maritime-bases-indian-ocean">string of pearls</a>" through the Indian Ocean in order to establish naval and commercial superiority in India's backyard. China and India also have a number of <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/china-has-slowly-been-eating-away-at-india-2014-9">simmering territorial disputes</a>.China is <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/china-may-be-developing-a-second-aircraft-carrier-2015-2">expecting</a> to have two operational aircraft carriers by the 2020s. India is fast-tracking the development of its new aircraft carrier in order to compete with China

The press has been rife with headlines in the last few days because a man identified only as "Nick" alleged to the Exaro investigative news site that <a href="http://uk.businessinsider.com/conservative-mp-allegedly-killed-a-boy-2014-11">a Conservative MP killed a boy at a paedophile sex party in the early 1980s</a> and that, separately, a Conservative cabinet member watched as another boy was murdered at a different party.
Following that, <a href="http://uk.businessinsider.com/murder-covered-up-by-police-in-westminster-paedophile-scandal-2014-11">the father of Vishal Mehrotra has claimed that he passed to the police a tape recording</a> of a phone call he received after his 8-year-old son was killed in which a male prostitute said the boy might have been abducted and murdered near the notorious Elm Guest House, a building nearby where Vishal went missing. Elm Guest House has been the focus of a police investigation into whether it was a base for child sex abusers. The late liberal MP <a href="http://www.theguardian.com/politics/2014/jul/16/cyril-smith-sex-abuse-cps-1970-report-lancashire-dpp">Cyril Smith has been named by police</a> as someone they believe abused children in connection with the home.
There is no concrete connection between the death of Vishal and the claims by "Nick".
But Malton's interview with The Telegraph adds a new layer to the mystery. She claims that it was possible that police were brushed off the investigation into Vishal's death by senior politicians. <a href="http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/crime/11242273/Metropolitan-Police-detectives-fears-of-Westminster-paedophile-cover-up.html">She told The Telegraph</a>:
"During my time in the police there was a feeling of misuse of power," she told The Telegraph. "There were a lot of powerful people saying, 'Don't you know who I am?'"
Miss Malton, now aged 63 and living in Surrey, worked on Vishal's disappearance for about four months in 1981 before being seconded to another investigation, weeks before his father's tape was handed in. She said the culture of policing at the time meant it was possible the recording was ignored and the murder covered up due to the alleged involvement of senior figures at Westminster.
"There is clear evidence that something was happening at that guesthouse," she said. "If nothing has been done about it in retrospect, then Mr Mehrotra is right. Either the police disbelieved it, or they covered it up one way or another.
 "I do remember that the officers were highly passionate about the Mehrotra case, but for some reason we never managed to get anywhere."
Malton adds that she has no specific evidence of a coverup, and that she did not work on the Elm House probe.
Part of Vishal's body was found in a West Sussex woodland in 1982. A second boy, Martin Allen, 15, was lost in 1979 and never found. Police raided Elm House, and the Allen death was linked to the house at the time.

In a first for Indian actors, Vishal Malhotra sells NFT for $5500

The corporate honchos love to bring his or her own ex-teammates to the new surroundings. One can call it the comfort factor or just because the old mates are too darn good to let go off. At <keyword id="6354512" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Infosys">Infosys</keyword>, the new CEO <keyword id="6369763" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Vishal-Sikka">Vishal Sikka</keyword> has already started picking his old colleagues from <keyword id="6358384" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="SAP">SAP</keyword>. 
 The two new joinees in Infosys are <keyword id="2558261" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Ritika-Suri">Ritika Suri</keyword> and <keyword id="101331" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Abdul-Razak">Abdul Razak</keyword>, and will hold senior vice president post. They will be working out of the Palo Alto area in California, where Vishal Sikka is also situated. Since August 1, 2014, Infosys has been hiring employees from SAP. With Ritika and Abdul on board, Infosys have now picked 5 senior people from SAP. 
 
Infosys has been ailing since past few years. Tata Consultancy Services and Cognizant have been giving them tough competition and are slowly increasing their market share. Vishal, the first non-board member CEO of the multinational company, has been given a responsibility to bring back the company to its original health and to grow it further. 
 
Vishal has been quite successful in his last area of work at SAP and is one of the most trusted names when it comes to the IT and software market. However, the task in front of him is huge. He would need all the help that he can get. Bringing old and familiar faces to the Infosys table might ease his chore a bit.

How Better went from a darling of mortgage fintechs to laying off thousands of workers

Ratan Tata funds yet another startup, this time it is a fitness tracker

Yes, <keyword id="6428354" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Chris-Martin">Chris Martin</keyword> was in Delhi and yes you missed his impromptu gig at Summerhouse Café in Delhi. 
 It was a typical case of an owner’s pride and neighbour’s envy when a usual Wednesday night turned into one of the most happening ones as <keyword id="34647" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="100" keywordseo="Coldplay">Coldplay</keyword>’s Chris Martin walked into the bar and played songs- Viva la vida, and Paradise. 
 
Lucky ones termed it as a moment of a lifetime and clicked pictures with the international star, who was at the café with All India Bakchod’s Tanmay Bhat, actress Freida Pinto, singers Vishal Dadlani, Raghu Dixit and men from comedy collective.

Rishi Kumar, General Manager at Rodeo, said that they are always ready with basic requirements like sound set-up and security. “In case of any celebrity playing, we need to be extra cautious due to huge popularity. Once the guidelines are understood, any special requirements by artists can also be addressed without any hassle within 30 minutes,” he added.

<div class="KonaFilter image-container float_right"><div class="image">SAPSAP executive Vishal Sikka</div></div>Like most <keyword id="6356323" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Enterprise">enterprise</keyword> software companies, SAP is busy remaking itself into a cloud-computing company. At the core of its cloud efforts is a superfast database technology called HANA.
During a press conference today where SAP announced <a href="http://www.news-sap.com/sap-unveils-next-step-for-the-cloud-powered-by-sap-hana/">new pricing and features for its SAP HANA Cloud Platform</a>, the executive who created HANA mentioned that it had<a href="http://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/world-records/5000/largest-data-warehouse"> just set a Guinness World Record. </a>
SAP's Vishal Sikka said that setting a new world record "was a moonshot challenge I had laid out for our engineering team."
Using HANA and another of SAP's databases, Sybase, plus technology from several other tech companies - BMMsoft, HP, Intel, NetApp and Red Hat - these companies built a computer system that holds 12.1 petabytes of data (12,100 terabytes). This computer system is known as a data warehouse.
The point was to show that SAP's database, which competes with Oracle, can handle enormous amounts of data. That's important because HANA is what's known as an "in-memory database," meaning that all of the data is held in memory (like RAM), and not in traditional computer storage like a hard drive.
Putting data on a hard drive slows the database down because, before it can do anything, it has to grab information from the drive. In contrast, an in-memory databases works instantly, but is limited by how much memory a computer has.
To give you an idea on just how big 12.1 petabytes is, a single petabyte of MP3 songs, each 4 minutes long, would take 2,000 years to play, <a href="http://www.computerweekly.com/feature/What-does-a-petabyte-look-like">according to Computerweekly.</a>
But even though this project earned the Guinness World Record, it's not the biggest data warehouse around.
Facebook, for instance, runs a much bigger data warehouse: an incredible 300 petabytes, <a href="https://www.facebook.com/notes/facebook-engineering/presto-interacting-with-petabytes-of-data-at-facebook/10151786197628920">its engineers say. </a>But Facebook has not submitted it to Guinness to be validated for a world record like SAP did.
In any case, SAP's HANA can handle a lot of data, and that is attracting a lot of attention, especially from the startup community, which is using this database in its products, services and apps.
Sikka said today that 1,237 startup companies in 57 countries are building products with the HANA database and "60 of them are live." These startups have already crossed $10 million in revenue, he says.
"It's still a small number. It's not like the Apple App Store yet," he jokes, the implication being that one day HANA apps will be as big as iOS apps.
In fact, SAP has been aggressively recruiting startups, investing in them and trying to entice them in usual ways.
For instance, it will soon open a 24-hour cafe named HANA in Palo Alto. The cafe will serve food, coffee, alcohol, even have standup comedy, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/sap-plans-startup-eatery-called-hana-2014-2">as a place where startups can hang out together.</a> SAP plans to open a bunch of HANA cafes in cities worldwide and connect them all together with 24-7 video conferencing.

Mumbai, May 15 () Maharashtra minister Aaditya Thackeray had to intervene after a scriptwriter drew his attention towards a city hospital that had run out of food to serve to its patients.Scriptwriter Vishal Kapoor took to Twitter and said the cook at Sanjeevani Hospital in Malad, where his uncle was admitted after his COVID-19 diagnosis, had left and hence the patients didn't have any food to eat."URGENT: My uncle, tested Covid+, is in the ICU at Sanjeevani Hospital Malad East. We were informed that the cook at the hospital has left and the patients haven't got food since yesterday. Request urgent help @CMOMaharashtra @AUThackeray (sic)," he tweeted.Taking note of the tweet, Thackeray tagged Shiv Sena corporator Amey Ghole and asked him to look into the matter.In a follow up tweet, Kapoor, whose writing credits include Marathi horror "Lapachhapi" and TV series "Bombers", said the hospital is "arranging food from a nearby restaurant for the patients."Ghole said he had spoken to the hospital and learnt there was an issue with the in-house facility but they have now made an alternative arrangements for the same."Thank you everyone. Writer raises issue of no food in hospital for COVID-19 patients, Aaditya Thackeray intervenes

Rift between the founders and the management board in <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=infosys&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Infosys </a>has been widening since more than one year now. The two sides are at loggerheads over the large severance paid to former <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=rajiv+bansal&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">CEO Rajiv Bansal</a>, disclosed in 2016, and<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=vishal+sikka&amp;sortorder=effectivedate"> CEO Vishal Sikka</a> ($11million). 
 
The founders are upset and as per several media reports, some promoters were also upset with the appointment of Punita Kumar-Sinha, an investment banker and wife of Union minister Jayant Sinha, as an independent director. 
 However, the main reason behind the dispute is governance issue and “violation of core <keyword id="6354512" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Infosys">Infosys</keyword> values”. 
 
ET reported some of the founders have held the board responsible for what they perceive to be its inability to enforce governance norms. In July 2016, one of Infosys' prominent promoters reached out to a top legal professional in Mumbai. 
 The agenda: to hunt for a co-chairman for Infosys. This, despite the fact that <keyword id="484178" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="R-Seshasayee">R Seshasayee</keyword> had been serving as Infosys non-executive chairman for just a year, since his appointment in June 2015. 
 
"The idea was to look for someone who understood core values of Infosys,” an executive told ET. 
 
A few names were thrown up as candidates, including a former Infosys finance hotshot and a retired founder. But the idea fizzled out as Seshasayee stepped down on July 28 as non-executive vice-chairman of Ashok Leyland - a post he had held since 2011- to focus on Infosys. 
 
Industry experts told ET the situation is not yet past the point of no return. "The end goal is the promoters, the board and the management should be aligned. I don't think the situation is irredeemable. If the founders air their problems, this could still be resolved. This isn't like the Tata case,” Shriram Subramanian, MD of shareholder advisory firm InGovern, told ET. 
 
Meanwhile, efforts are going on resolve the dispute. ET quoted two people saying among those involved is a prominent investor in the company - Baburaj Pillai. 
 
Reports of disputes over "internal governance issues, between some of the company's founders and a management keen on charting a new path have spurred efforts to broker peace by the Singapore-based fund manager as well as other influential people, said the sources cited above. 
 
Pillai, the founder of investment firm Arohi Capital, met with co-founder <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=narayana+murthy&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">NR Narayana Murthy </a>and chief executive officer <keyword id="6369763" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vishal-Sikka">Vishal Sikka</keyword> late last year, according to people aware of the talks. 
 
"Pillai met with both of them to try and create common ground. He does not want Sikka to be forced to leave and he also does not want Murthy to feel as though his voice is not important,” one of the people aware of the discussions told ET. 
 
"With regard to concerns on governance being discussed in the media, we would like to reiterate that all decisions have been made bona fide, in the overall interest of the company, and that full disclosures have already been made thereon,” Infosys told ET in a statement.

Meanwhile, Kharb, who was earlier VP - Production Engineering at <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=inmobi&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">InMobi</a>, will strengthen efficiencies in <keyword id="6354720" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ola">Ola</keyword>’s technology infrastructure including site operability, compliance and data systems. 
 
“Ola has consistently invested in technology, consolidating supply chain and building a robust technological backbone, by bringing onboard, world class talent. They bring in relevant and significant experience with large technology businesses and they have an integral role to play in Ola’s aspirations to create innovative solutions that will efficiently solve for the diverse mobility needs of the country,” said CTO and Co-founder at Ola Ankit Bhati. 
 
The team will work closely with the supply chain team to help create a better experience for customers and driver partners alike, by building solutions that will effectively optimize use of vehicles on the platform, reduce deviations in routes, and improve matching of customer with drivers, among others. 
 
In last month, Ola has made significant appointments. Ola hired Dr Badri Raghavan as Chief Data Scientist, Vishal Kaul as Chief Operating Officer and Shalabh Seth as CEO of Ola Fleet Technologies.
