It said that the best offer received rose by a whopping 90%, without mentioning the actual salary. Around 16% of the students in Madras got pre-placement offers from companies in which they were working as interns. MTech placements soared by around 158% compared with the preceding year in Jodhpur. While IIT Madras clocked in 100% placements, IIT Jodhpur says that they have successfully placed 97% of BTech, 75% of our MTech and 100% of their MBA students. At IIT Madras, maximum job opportunities were available in the consulting and analytics space. Whereas in Jodhpur, computer science and engineering (CSE) and artificial intelligence (AI) branches saw the maximum placements this year. “The curriculum at IIT Jodhpur and the students' performance are a testament to our grit and gumption during perhaps one of the testing times. IIT Madras average salary rises 30% while IIT Jodhpur’s best salary rises 90%

After it was recently found out that <keyword id="6354859" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="IIT">IIT</keyword> students were feeling extremely stressed out during their annual placements, the <keyword id="4287772" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="all-india-placement-committee-of-iits">All-India Placement Committee of IITs</keyword> has decided to reduce the number of firms visiting campuses on the first few days. 
 
As per the decision taken in the meeting, placements by companies visiting IITs on the first 4-5 days will be extended by two days to ensure that students are not forced to appear for multiple interviews. As of now, each student probably has five to six interviews a day." 
 
The new guideline, however, may apply to only the older, established IITs like IIT-Bombay, Madras and Delhi. These institutes see at least 35-40 companies visiting the campus during the first five days. 
 With the new strategy, students are likely will get time in between interviews and tests. The second meeting of the AIPC is likely to be held in April, with the <keyword id="2946798" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Older-IITs">older IITs</keyword> to finalise the policy. 
 
In view of this move, IITs planning to start placements from September 1 have rejected the timing. A new date shall be announced soon.

QS Rankings: IIT Bombay best in employability, IIT Delhi ranks second

New <keyword id="19900881" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="delhi" source="keywords">Delhi</keyword>: Japanese auto major <keyword id="19965528" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="honda" source="keywords">Honda</keyword> on Wednesday said it has started joint research on AI technologies with <keyword id="19896445" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="iit-delhi" source="keywords">IIT Delhi</keyword> and IIT Bombay with plans to develop driver assistance and automated driving technologies applicable in various regions of the world, including India. The joint research is aimed to further advance Honda CI (Cooperative Intelligence)-- the original Honda AI that enables mutual understanding between machines and people, the company said in a statement. Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL), a Honda subsidiary in India, will sign a joint research contract with the two IITs. "The IITs are a home to a large number of excellent researchers and engineers, and through the joint research with those institutes, Honda will strive to advance the underlying technologies of CI, with an eye toward the future applications for technologies that reduce traffic collisions and enable automated driving," it said. With an aim to achieve further advancement of CI, Honda and IITs have set joint research themes such as recognition of the surrounding environment and cultivation of cooperative behaviour, and will conduct research and development while utilising the cutting-edge AI technologies, it added. Under the partnership, for each research theme, Honda associates and IIT professors will engage with IIT students for planning, designing, developing and testing technologies which work beyond the confines of the laboratory and thereby proceed with the research and development more flexibly and with a high degree of freedom, Honda said. "This will enable Honda and IITs to work in a more flexible environment with deeper exchange of academic and industry insights," it added. In addition, as part of this research, Honda with the help of IITs is aiming to conduct verification of driving assistance and automated driving technologies in the suburbs of Delhi and in Mumbai. Due to numerous variations in the road systems and a large number of road users, India has a complex traffic environment where situations that occur frequently are difficult for AI to predict. "By conducting technology verification in such a technically challenging environment, Honda and IITs will refine the underlying technologies of CI and strive to apply them to future driver assistance and automated driving technologies in various regions of the world, including India," the statement said. Honda said it has been actively hiring IIT graduates since 2019, and many of them are now playing key roles in the areas of mobility intelligence, including the research and development of CI.

Honda begins joint research with IIT Delhi, Bombay on AI technologies

IITs are known around the world for being one of the best engineering colleges. However, one of them will soon be recognized as the best medical college as well. 
 
After HRD ministry nod, IIT-Kharagpur is now the first among IITs to offer medicine courses to students soon. Interestingly, IIT-Kharagpur was also the first IIT to have a management school. The <keyword id="2872909" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vinod-Gupta-School-of-Management">Vinod Gupta School of Management</keyword> was started in 1993 and is often ranked among the top 20 <keyword id="112381" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="business-schools">business schools</keyword> in the country. 
 
You may think why are IITs venturing into the medical domain. The idea, as per the institute, is to be a research hospital where technological developments can take place, and local patients can benefit from them. 
 Plan is to kick-start the new course by 2019 with a batch of 50 students. However, a 400-bed hospital to be set up on the campus which will act as a teaching facility, will start admitting patients from mid-2018 itself. The super-speciality hospital will include departments, such as cardiology, neurology, orthopedic, out-patient, besides a medical diagnostic centre and an emergency ward. The permission from the <keyword id="49468" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Medical-Council-of-India">Medical Council of India</keyword> will come only after this hospital starts operating. 
 
As per sources, several hospitals of repute have been approached to manage IIT-K hospital's operations. Associated doctors will have an opportunity to carry out medico-technical research. "We aim to introduce videography during treatment, with the patient's permission. This will allow us to gather information, which can be transmitted anywhere across the globe to other doctors, who can then go through the treatment procedure and records to make recommendations," said the institute deputy director. 
 Chances are medical aspirants won't have to appear for <keyword id="6361994" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="NEET">NEET</keyword>, as IIT-K plans to have a separate entrance examination. Notably, IITs are governed by a separate law, which enables them to hold their own admission exams, like for engineering courses.

World renowned IITs will no longer just be engineering institutes! They will soon offer MBBS courses too

KOLKATA/MUMBAI: Where is the country’s top engineering talent heading to in a year of subdued hiring? <keyword id="10591" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Samsung">Samsung</keyword>, <keyword id="6355199" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Reliance-Industries">Reliance Industries</keyword> (RIL), <keyword id="43340" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Oracle">Oracle</keyword> and <keyword id="6354742" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Flipkart">Flipkart</keyword> topped the hiring charts for the class of 2014, according to data from the top <keyword id="49737" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="IITs">IITs</keyword> at the end of the first phase of this placement season. 
 With 271 offers, almost a 100 more than the second-largest <keyword id="41007" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="recruiter">recruiter</keyword>, Samsung is the clear winner so far. This number includes 69 pre-placement offers (PPOs) and 28 postings in <keyword id="43918" type="COUNTRY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Korea">Korea</keyword>. 
 
The South Korean conglomerate has ramped up hiring numbers by as much as 71% from 158 last year, emerging as the biggest recruiter at the IITs so far. It had made 23 international offers last year. 
 
“We focused on campus hiring for multiple reasons — strengthening our core competency in embedded computing and building new skills/capabilities in UX design, enterprise software and data analysis,” said a Samsung spokesperson in a written response to ET. Out of 243 candidates selected for India, 211 are <keyword id="821920" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="40" keywordseo="from-software">from software</keyword> engineering and 19 from UX design. 
 RIL, another regular recruiter, made 177 offers, lower than last year’s 202. Students have been taken on in the roles of graduate <keyword id="6369183" type="POSITION" weightage="40" keywordseo="Engineer">engineer</keyword> trainees (GETs). 
 
“Other than some 45 PPOs, RIL has hired 132 students from 8 IITs – Delhi, Bombay, Roorkee, Kharagpur, Guwahati, Madras, Kanpur and IITBHU. In addition to this, Reliance Jio hired 5 GETs, one from IIT-Hyderabad and 4 from IIT-Indore,” said a Reliance Industries spokesperson in a written response. 
 
These numbers reflect hiring at the end of the first phase of the placement season in which roughly 50-60% of the batches have been placed across IITs. The second phase will start in the first week of January and will cover the remaining students. 
 
Tech major Oracle was another big recruiter, taking on close to 135 students across almost all IITs. While its overall campus hiring numbers remained fairly consistent over the last three years, it made a few US-based offers for the first time this year. 
 
“Oracle has a number of different business groups internally and we hire students across a variety of positions. 
 Many students will join Oracle, working in product development roles across our hardware, software or industry-specific based groups,” said a <keyword id="154054" type="POSITION" weightage="40" keywordseo="company-spokesperson">company spokesperson</keyword>. 
 E-commerce major Flipkart, as reported earlier by ET, has been a big draw at the IITs during the first phase of placements. The company increased hiring from around 100 last year to 118. “Campus hiring is strategic for us. It helps us identify and bring new talent,” <keyword id="225032" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Sachin-Bansal">Sachin Bansal</keyword>, co-founder, Flipkart, told ET. 
 
“Past experience has shown us that talent from tier-I colleges like the IITs and IIMs and the way they meet the challenges posed by a high-growth environment like ours has been remarkable -- and a great fit for an organisation like Flipkart that stresses on ownership and innovation,” added Bansal. 
 
Several other companies emerged as strong recruiters, according to hiring data from six of the older IITs at Bombay, Kharagpur, Madras, Roorkee, Kanpur and Guwahati. 
 Business process outsourcing company <keyword id="369930" type="COMPANY" weightage="40" keywordseo="EXL-Service">EXL Service</keyword>, for instance, made 97 offers across 7 IITs this year compared to just 46 across 5 IITs last placements. The increase in the number of campus hires in the roles of consultants and analysts is to power the company’s analytics business, which has been growing at more than 30% for the last few years.

The researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology Jodhpur have developed Lanthanides based perovskite nanocomposite catalytic materials for artificial photosynthesis to produce high-purity <keyword id="169046" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="hydrogen" source="Orion">hydrogen</keyword>. "In the patented method, the researchers used natural sunlight to convert water into hydrogen and oxygen using a highly recyclable catalyst based on low-cost, simple transition metal. "The team has now developed a series of catalysts which can efficiently produce hydrogen under ambient conditions. The end application of this research lies in the industries, automobile and energy sectors" IIT Jodhpur said in a Statement IIT Jodhpur further said in a statement that Hydrogen-based energy is the only viable source for a green and sustainable future. More than 90 per cent of the source of hydrogen is from petroleum feedstock, making it costly and out of reach of the common man. IIT Jodhpur's research team is working to find a viable source of hydrogen generation. The technology developed by the IIT Jodhpur team does not need any external energy source except sunlight. Highlighting the significance of the research, Dr Rakesh <keyword id="3398159" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="k-sharma" source="Orion">K Sharma</keyword>, Associate Professor, Department of Chemistry, IIT Jodhpur, said, "Development of indigenous sustainable catalyst for large scale green hydrogen production is benchmark innovation for next generation happiness." "The research team has screened more than 100 catalyst combinations to develop five sets of catalysts that give high hydrogen production under sunlight. The catalysts work for wastewater, saline water and brackish water. The catalysts are recyclable and can be used multiple times" he added. Dr Rakesh K Sharma further said that The process used is simple, works on a wide spectrum of sunlight, and does not require any energy source to produce hydrogen. Low cost and high purity could be an essential step towards using hydrogen as a fuel directly in vehicles avoiding fossil fuels and reducing pollution. This novel research is being funded collaboratively by the Department of Science and Technology and IIT Jodhpur. Further, the researchers aim to develop a prototype followed by a scale-up for large-scale hydrogen production for end-user applications. IIT Jodhpur researchers develop catalytic materials to produce high-purity hydrogen

Researchers from the <keyword id="108320" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="iit-kanpur" source="Orion">IIT Kanpur</keyword> and IISc Bengaluru developed an anti-microbial air purification technology which was used by air filters, according to an official report. "The novel air purification technology used in these air filters has successfully proven its efficiency towards protecting us from life-threatening viruses. This innovation is a great addition to the R&amp;D work IIT Kanpur is involved in," Ankush Sharma, Professor-in-charge of <keyword id="14935950" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="innovation-and-incubation" source="Orion">Innovation and Incubation</keyword>, IIT Kanpur said in a statement. In the winter, an air conditioner equipped with this innovative air filter system from IIT Kanpur can purify the air with a 99 per cent filtration efficiency, said the report. "This indigenous revolutionary innovation has tremendous potential to succeed in the global market. This launch is indicative of technology catering to critical world problems," Amitabha Bandyopadhyay, Co-Professor-in-charge of Innovation and Incubation, IIT Kanpur said in a statement. This new type of air filter has proven to restrict microbial growth and is capable of capturing PM 2.5, PM 10, dust, pollen, allergens and germs from the air while purifying, the report added. IIT Kanpur researcher develops technology to turn ACs into air purifiers

The agreement was inked on Wednesday in presence of External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Zanzibar's President Hussein Ali Mwinyi. Jaishakar is on a visit to Tanzania. "The first IIT campus to be set up outside India will be in Zanzibar," the MEA said. It said an MoU was signed between the India's education ministry, IIT Madras and Zanzibar's ministry of education and vocational training. "This campus is reflective of the longstanding friendship between India and Tanzania and a reminder of the focus India places on building people to people ties across Africa and the Global South," the MEA said. It said the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 recommends that "high performing Indian universities will be encouraged to set up campuses in other countries". "Recognising the strategic partnership between Tanzania and India, the relationship of educational partnership has been formalised by signing the document which provides the framework for the parties to detail out the setting up of the proposed campus of IIT Madras in <keyword id="17916122" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="zanzibar-tanzania" source="Orion">Zanzibar-Tanzania</keyword>, with plans to launch programmes in October 2023," the MEA said.

As mentioned already, the lowest salary offers during the 2023-2024 placements fell within the Rs 4 LPA to Rs 6 LPA range this year. Earlier, the lowest salary offered to students used to be 6 LPA. As per reports, 10 students accepted offers that fell within this range. These figures are more common in sectors such as education and design, where entry-level salaries tend to be modest compared to other fields. <h2>IIT Bombay 2024 placements: Number of students who got jobs </h2>Out of the 2,414 students who registered for placements, 1,475 students secured job offers, bringing the placement rate to 74.53%. The placement drive saw participation from 364 companies, with 1,650 job offers being made. In addition to full-time roles, internships also played a crucial part in student preparation and employment. These offers were largely made after the completion of summer internships, highlighting the importance of these internships in securing full-time positions. <h2>Comparison of the number of students placed in the last four years</h2>IIT Bombay has seen lesser student placement numbers over when compared to last year. However, when we look at the last four years, the numbers have been stable. In the 2020-2021 season, 1,150 students were placed, which rose to 1,441 in 2021-2022. The peak was reached in 2022-2023 with 1,516 placements, while this year saw a slight decrease to 1,475. This slight dip from last year’s record high can be attributed to the challenging global economic conditions. <h2>Number of offers from different programs</h2>Different academic programs at IIT Bombay saw varying levels of placement success. The B.Tech program led the way with 683 placements, followed by the M.Tech program with 415 placements. The Dual Degree (B.Tech + M.Tech) program saw 152 students placed, while other programs such as M.Sc., M.Des, and Ph.D. had varying placement numbers, reflecting the diverse opportunities available across disciplines. <h2>International opportunities</h2>This year’s placement season also highlighted a significant rise in the number of international offers, with students receiving opportunities in countries like Japan, Taiwan, Europe, the UAE, Singapore, and the USA. 78 international job offers were made to students this year, whcih is an increase when compared to 65 offers last year. Additionally, the number of companies participating in the placements grew by 12%, indicating steady interest from employers.
