New Delhi, The first IIT campus outside India will come up in Tanzania's Zanzibar, the <keyword id="6374106" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="ministry-of-external-affairs" source="Orion">Ministry of External Affairs</keyword> (MEA) said on Thursday. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed for setting up of a campus of <keyword id="6356755" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="iit-madras" source="Orion">IIT Madras</keyword> in Zanzibar, which is a Tanzanian archipelago off the coast of East Africa. The agreement was inked on Wednesday in presence of External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Zanzibar's President Hussein Ali Mwinyi. Jaishakar is on a visit to Tanzania. "The first IIT campus to be set up outside India will be in Zanzibar," the MEA said. It said an MoU was signed between the India's education ministry, IIT Madras and Zanzibar's ministry of education and vocational training. "This campus is reflective of the longstanding friendship between India and Tanzania and a reminder of the focus India places on building people to people ties across Africa and the Global South," the MEA said. It said the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 recommends that "high performing Indian universities will be encouraged to set up campuses in other countries". "Recognising the strategic partnership between Tanzania and India, the relationship of educational partnership has been formalised by signing the document which provides the framework for the parties to detail out the setting up of the proposed campus of IIT Madras in <keyword id="17916122" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="zanzibar-tanzania" source="Orion">Zanzibar-Tanzania</keyword>, with plans to launch programmes in October 2023," the MEA said.

Researchers at the <keyword id="55119" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="indian-institute-of-technology" source="Orion">Indian Institute of Technology</keyword> (<keyword id="6354859" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="iit" source="Orion">IIT</keyword>) <keyword id="35727" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="guwahati" source="Orion">Guwahati</keyword> have designed an affordable and efficient 'passive' radiative cooling system that does not require electricity to operate and can provide an alternative to the conventional air-conditioners, the institute said on Monday. This 'Radiative Cooler' coating material is an electricity-free cooling system as it can be applied on rooftops and functions both during day and night. Passive radiative cooling systems operate by emitting the heat absorbed from the surrounding in the form of infrared radiations that can pass through the atmosphere before getting dumped into the cold outer space. "These radiative coolers requiring no external energy sources for their operation could be one of the best alternatives to replace the conventional air conditioning systems used to cool buildings and automobiles in countries experiencing hot weather, such as India," said Prof. <keyword id="14360330" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="debabrata-sikdar" source="Orion">Debabrata Sikdar</keyword>, Assistant Professor at Department of Electronics and Electrical Engineering, <keyword id="186684" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="iit-guwahati" source="Orion">IIT Guwahati</keyword>, in a statement. "Unlike traditional cooling technologies that dump the waste heat into the surroundings, radiative cooling is a unique process that cools an object on the earth by sending excessive heat directly into the extremely cold universe," he added. However, most passive radiative coolers operate only at night. For daytime operation, these coolers need to reflect entire solar radiation as well. Till now, these cooling systems are not able to provide sufficient cooling at daytime. "For a radiative cooler to work during daytime, the material should reflect the solar and atmospheric radiations falling on it. Since the materials used in conventional coolers absorb more solar radiations and emit less during the day, those do not work during daytime. While daytime cooling can be achieved using polymer-based passive radiative coolers, oxidation degrades the polymers resulting in a limited lifespan," explained Ashish Kumar Chowdhary, a research scholar at IIT Guwahati. To address this, the team considered using thin films of silicon dioxide and aluminium nitride. These materials have low optical density corresponding to the wavelength range of solar and atmospheric radiations. But at atmospheric transmittance wavelengths, they have high optical density. When optical density is high, radiations travel slower through a medium and get absorbed more. To remain at thermal equilibrium, the material emits all the absorbed radiation like a black body. Instead of a single layer, the team cascaded silicon dioxide and aluminium nitride thin film layers on a silver layer, used as a ground metal, placed over a silicon substrate. The cooler they designed achieved about 97 per cent reflectance for solar and atmospheric radiations and 80 per cent emissivity for radiations in atmospheric transmittance wavelengths. The net cooling power is estimated to be 115 watt per square metre which could reduce ambient temperature up to 15 degrees below the outside temperature. Their innovation has been recently covered in the Current Science Report, which was initially published in <keyword id="13574934" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="journal-of-physics" source="Orion">Journal of Physics</keyword> D: Applied Physics. Compared to a recent cooler design achieving a comparable reduction in ambient temperature, this cooler is found to provide around 1.6 times more cooling power, the team said, adding this will reach the market once the large-scale prototypes are developed and tested for operational stability and durability under different climatic conditions. IIT Guwahati designs a cooling system that will not require electricity

Small rocket maker Agnikul Cosmos Private Ltd is looking at overseas rocket ports to launch its rocket with small satellites apart from the Indian rocket launch centres, said a top company official. <div type="Article" hostid="261" msid="77506716" title="India’s first private player to successfully test a homegrown rocket engine is on track for its first full rocket launch by 2021" mstype="2" mssubtype="0"></div> "Our first preference is to use Indian rocket ports at Sriharikota or the upcoming one at Kulasekarapattinam in Tamil Nadu (both belonging to the Indian Space Research Organisation). If the customer prefers the launch to happen from some other country, we will ship the rocket and launch from there," Srinath Ravichandran, co-founder and CEO Agnikul Cosmos Pvt Ltd, told IANS. In July 2020, Agnikul signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Italian company Leaf Space for ground station services. Ravichandran said the company has signed up with a launch port in South Australia and is exploring four to five launch ports across the world. The company is hopeful of signing a satellite launch contract in 2021 and the debut launch of its rocket 'Agnibaan' is planned for 2022. Towards roping in customers Agnikul has recently signed up with Germany based HOSTmi - a match making platform between satellite owners and satellite launch companies. "HOSTmi is supported by the European Space Agency to make it easy for European customers to have on-demand access to space," Ravichandran said. According to Ravichandran, Agnikul has already signed MoUs with several European customers - Deployables Cube, Alen Space, Innovative Solutions in Space, Nanoavionics A-A to launch their small satellite systems. Speaking about the status of the Agnibaan rocket, he said the upper stage engine has been realised and work is on for realising the first stage engine, which is bigger in size to give the necessary thrust during the initial stages of the rocket's flight. All the engines will be fired by semi-cryogenic fuel or simply put pure kerosene. The rocket height will be 18 metres and it would weigh about 14 tons at lift off and has a carrying capacity of 100 kg to low earth orbit (LEO). "We will be integrating the rocket stages in a horizontal manner. Horizontal integration is not new for the industry. Our workshop is in IIT Madras Research Park. We will be needing additional space," Ravichandran said. While there is no certifying agency for satellite launchers, Ravichandran said the company has asked ISRO to review their engine. "Having now completed multiple engine firings and igniter hot fire tests, we are now gearing up to a full blown semi-cryogenic engine hot fire test in the coming months," he remarked. Agnikul will buy commercially available navigation systems and modify them to its needs. According to Ravichandran, the global micro, nano and small satellite (satellites weighing 1kg to 150kg) launch market is estimated to be about $2-$3 billion per year. About 500 satellites are being launched across the world and the carrying rate is about $40,000 per kg for low earth orbit. Presently, small satellites are carried as piggyback luggage by bigger rockets. Thus, the waiting time for small satellite makers to put their satellites into orbit is very long. While small rocket players may face competition from agencies having bigger rockets in terms of pricing, Ravichandran said the satellite players will have to look at the opportunity cost of waiting for space in a bigger rocket whereas it may not be so with players like Agnikul. He said Agnikul has raised $4 million in two rounds of funding till date. Indian space startup Agnikul may be looking outside India to launch its rockets

A digital microscope to see cells in 3-D, a helmet whose strap tightens with the click of a button and components which make buildings earthquake resistant, IIT-Delhi's recent 'Open House' displayed the kind of innovations that are taking place within the campus, but to be put into use by the outside world. While some innovations are near completion, others have even been patented and are now being used by the industries. History is testimony to the fact that what these students have crafted have been making a difference in our lives. While benefiting the common man, there's one more area that <keyword id="137562" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="IITians">IITians</keyword> have contributed to - Defence. Let's for instance take the example of a material called aluminium cenosphere syntactic foam. Work is on so that this can be used to place as a layer in buildings, bridges and flyovers to protect them from collapsing or suffering severe damage during a bomb blast. It can only protect a soldier from splinters, rocks and a bullet that only grazes the helmet and is not directly hitting it. The new helmet will make sure the bullet does not penetrate the helmet there is no 'back face signature', which is a deformity caused on the helmet by the bullet. IIT student innovations empower India's defence sector like never before

The day is not far when <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword> will see its own mega private aerospace company like Elon Musk-owns SpaceX or <keyword id="12232315" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="jeff-bezos-run" source="Orion">Jeff Bezos-run</keyword> Blue Origin, taking travellers to the edge of space and beyond, <keyword id="12180756" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="srinath-ravichandran" source="Orion">Srinath Ravichandran</keyword>, co-founder and CEO of rocket startup AgniKul Cosmos, has envisioned. In a chat with IANS, Ravichandran who is ecstatic after Agnikul Cosmos was granted access to the Indian Space Research Organisation (<keyword id="6358064" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="isro" source="Orion">ISRO</keyword>) facilities and expertise for the development and testing of systems and subsystems of its rockets, said that the pact with ISRO will allow them to ultilise its facilities to test out various sub-systems of their launch vehicle. "This will, in turn, help us with reduced capital expenditure and expedited testing," he said. "India can have its own SpaceX or Blue Origin kind of mega private space firm in the near future. There is so much support from the government and investors are open to invest too in the homegrown spacetech startups," Ravichandran added. The next step, he added, will be to aim multiple launches per year and scale to the extent of having a launch once in two-three weeks. "Beyond that would be about making the vehicles more efficient, thereby providing even cheaper access to customers. We are doing this through a mix of innovations on various technologies in the vehicle," Ravichandran informed. Last month, Chennai-based Agnikul Cosmos received the nod by the Department of Space to carry out multiple tests and qualify its single piece 3D-printed semi-cryogenic engine and other systems of its rocket at various ISRO centres. This is the second pact that the Department of Space has signed with a rocket maker, after the first with Hyderabad-based <keyword id="7537495" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="skyroot-aerospace" source="Orion">Skyroot Aerospace</keyword> on September 11. According to Ravichandran, their rocket engines are 100 per cent 3D-printed, that too in a single shot. "This allows us to directly assemble what comes out of the 3D printer in our launch vehicle. The big advantage of this is the ability to provide and enable rapid launch access and, at the same time, make customisable launch vehicles," elaborated Ravichandran. He formed the startup with Moin SPM within IIT-Madras with a seed funding of Rs 3 crore, with an aim to develop and launch its first rocket in 2021 and subsequently develop ability to provide launch service for satellites. The current investors in the spacetech startup are Mayfield India, PI Ventures, Speciale Invest, Beenext, Artha and others. In June, India decided to allow private companies to establish and operate rocket launch sites within and outside the country, subject to prior authorisation from the government. Similarly, any rocket launch (orbital or sub-orbital) from Indian or overseas territory can be carried out only with authorisation from Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Center (IN-SPACe), an independent body constituted by the Government of India, under the Department of Space (DOS). The launch could be from own or leased launch site and also from mobile platforms (land, sea or air) as per the Draft National Space Transportation Policy-2020 brought out by the Department of Space. "Now that we also have to plan the entire engine building facility in-house, we are confident that we can control engine making end-to-end in India, thereby not only enabling 'make in India' but also 'design in India'," Ravichandran told IANS. He said that anyone who wants to do a space tech startup should do it today. "Right now is the best time to do a spacetech startup in India. The government has been very forthcoming in terms of the help provided to enable private missions and now would be a good time to get started to get things done," Ravichandran noted. India set to witness its SpaceX moment soon, says Agnikul CEO

An unpleasant scene unfolded outside Mysuru's Sadvidya College - the exam centre for JEE exams when students wearing full sleeves were stopped from entering the examination hall for not abiding by the dress code. 
 
While a few students returned home to change, several others either resorted to cutting off their sleeves, or unclothing themselves right there to exchange clothes with their parents. 
 

	Local media reported that students were allowed inside only after they changed to half-sleeves. The rule was enforced after a cheating racket was exposed in All India Pre-Medical Test conducted by CBSE in 2015. At that time, wristwatches, full-sleeved shirts and earrings were banned. The rule was extended to other exams like IIT-JEE too.
 

	On Sunday, officials were busy frisking the students wearing full-sleeves thoroughly even as parents were seen requesting them to allow their children inside. While a few students were sent back minutes before the exam to change, others sought quick solutions like cutting off their sleeves at the exam centre itself. 
	 
	Some students reportedly even swapped clothes with their parents.There were also reports that a girl who had come in a full-sleeved kurta was sent back but she never returned. For some who couldn't go all the way back home, they decided to buy new shirts from nearby shops.
 

	On being questioned, Central Board of Secondary Education officials claimed that the invigilators were only doing their duty.

The winners for the Panasonic Open-Innovation contest in the Software category were Shubham Goyal, Chirag Maheshwari and Rahul Babbar, team CodeSquad from IIT Roorkee. Students of Delhi Technological University, Prempal Singh and Pranav Gulati team Genesis were winners of the Hardware category. The category winning teams also received a cash reward along with Panasonic smartphones and commendation certificates. 
 
The innovation projects were reviewed by a jury comprising of Product Experts, Technical Masters &amp; Marketing Connoisseurs having vast experience in their respective fields. Judges scored each team on a scale of 1 (Poor) to 10 (excellent). All the submissions were adjudged on the criteria of their innovativeness, feasibility, usability, relevance and overall impact on masses.

The Yogi Adityanath government has decided to teach engineering courses at the <keyword id="50307" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Banaras-Hindu-University" source="Orion">Banaras Hindu University</keyword> (<keyword id="9367" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="BHU" source="Orion">BHU</keyword>) in Hindi as well from the next academic session. BHU will now be the first institute in the country to offer engineering courses in Hindi. This landmark decision is designed to remove the barrier of language in pursuing technical studies as well as boosting national pride among the youth of Uttar Pradesh. According to the government spokesman, initially, the option of Hindi will be restricted to the first year B-Tech students, but in the coming years it will be introduced at higher stages as well. All the necessary preparations have been made in this regard. A list of experts who can teach engineering in Hindi has been prepared. There is a provision to call experts from outside also to teach engineering courses in Hindi as per requirement. Meanwhile, the BHU is engaged in arranging Hindi books for first year B-Tech courses. Prof Pramod Kumar Jain, Director of IIT BHU and Chairman of Official Language Committee, has confirmed the introduction of engineering courses in Hindi for first year students. He said that the decision to launch engineering courses in Hindi along with English has been taken under the new <keyword id="117020" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="education-policy" source="Orion">Education Policy</keyword>, which has a provision for making mother tongue, the medium of instruction. Prof Jain said that use of regional languages will only expand the scope of engineering with talented youths from a cross section of society coming forward to pursue technical studies. It is worth noting that under the new Education Policy, the central government had announced last year, its plan to introduce engineering courses in Hindi at the <keyword id="55119" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="indian-institute-of-technology" source="Orion">Indian Institute of Technology</keyword> (IIT). Subsequently, the BHU started working on it, but had to shelve its plan due to the pandemic. However, with Covid on the decline, the state government is gearing up to implement it from the next academic session. Yogi Adityanath-led UP government decides to launch engineering courses in Hindi at BHU, first state in India to do so

Mumbai, Mar 4 () India is plagued with a slowing economy and lack of finance currently, Blackstone's chairman Stephen Schwarzman said, hinting that the global private equity major may be interested in distressed asset play in the country. Speaking to reporters at the IIT-Bombay, he also said the country is lacking the robustness in financial institutions. Blackstone has been present in India since 2006 and has invested USD 15 billion in the country, including private equity play in enterprises and also bets on realty. Schwarzman, who is also the chief executive and co-founder of Blackstone, said his company is "bullish" on India, but from a long term perspective. To a question on distressed asset investing, which a lot of its global peers have entered into, he said, "issues with india are more about slowing economic growth and limited credit extension by the banking system and neobanks and that should create more need for owners of companies to look for other sources of liquidity." "For us, if there is something very attractive here, we've a lot of long term confidence in india. So, we will be very active buyers or lenders in this market," he added. The company has a dry powder of USD 150 billion of committed money yet to find takers globally which makes it the best placed to take care of such requirements, he said. The financial system in a country is akin to the heart in the human body and if financial institutions in a country aren't in a great shape, it can impact countries in a broader sense, he said during a chat with Infosys chairman Nandan Nilekani earlier. Schwarzman said the coronavirus epidemic is a black swan event globally and flagged risks to companies' profits globally because of that. A self-professed Republican follower, Schwarzman said it is unclear if the US Fed's decision to cut rates will have the desired impact and pointed to the markets' negative reactions on Tuesday to illustrate his point. It is not markets or the availability of the money which will decide the way forward, but the way consumer confidence evolves from here on, he told reporters. Blackstone India will be focusing on the real estate sector to create spaces that can be hired by IT companies and also warehousing space going forward, he said. At present, India has slow growth, high inflation and a banking system which has high amount of NPAs, he said. After the 2008 crisis, the US' banking system is one of the most conservative in the world and differs with the Europeans because the former chose to take all the hits upfront, he said, asking India to emulate the same. "We are interested in india because it has grown enormously, it's got the youngest working age cohort in the world, it's strides in technology and education levels are going up. These are things that work well. Slight downturn in economies don't affect us. We look at a 5-10 year range. Sometimes it's better to be an outsider," he said. AA MRMR

The premier technological education institutes, <keyword id="55119" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-Institute-of-Technology">Indian Institute of Technology</keyword> (IIT) is going international. No not by expanding the campuses but inviting foreign nationals to be a part of the programmes. As planned, IITs will be holding entrance examinations outside India and there would be a 10% additional seats to accommodate foreign students. 
 
"Foreign candidates will have to qualify the JEE advanced examination for an IIT seat. The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) for entry to MTech courses will be held in these six countries as well," an official informed the Economic Times. Foreign candidates, however, will not have to take the JEE main examination. 
 
The official clarified that the there would be no decrease in the number of the seats for Indian students. "The 10% intake is in addition to the existing seats available in each of the 23 IITs,” he added. 
 Also, 20,000 more candidates will be eligible to write the exam after clearing JEE main, thus taking the total number to 2,20,000. The examination will be held in six countries outside India - Ethiopia, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, UAE, Nepal and <keyword id="6356662" type="COUNTRY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Singapore">Singapore</keyword>. The number of foreign students can't exceed 10% of the total seats in each course offered by the IITs and ISM-Dhanbad, as per the news report on the ET. There is no quota in this category. Also the cut-off for the aggregate marks in Class XII for SC and ST candidates has been reduced from 70% to 65% in JEE advanced 2017. 
 
Increase in fees Candidates who register for entrance exams after due date would be allowed to fill up the forms after paying a late fee of Rs 500. There has been an increase in registration fee from Rs 1,200 from Rs 1,000 for girls and reserved category students and to Rs 2,400 from Rs 2,000 for others. Students coming from <keyword id="8470" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="SAARC">SAARC</keyword> countries will need to pay $135 (Rs 9000) and those from the other countries would pay $270 (Rs 18000).

Now foreign students can enrol
in IITs with just one entrance examination

Large corporations, and not necessarily reputed tech schools like <keyword id="49737" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="IITs">IITs</keyword> or MIT, are the new <keyword id="3326628" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="startup-garages">startup garages</keyword> as big businesses race to stay relevant, <keyword id="6355744" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Mahindra-Group">Mahindra Group</keyword> Chairman <keyword id="46425" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Anand-Mahindra">Anand Mahindra</keyword> has said. 
 
"The new garage is not necessarily in the MIT or Stanford or the IITs. It is in fact, back in large companies. The cycle has turned, where large companies are not turning obsolete," Mahindra said. 
 
Large corporations are emulating startup ecosystems within themselves, he added. 
 "In a sense, what we are doing is putting up a <keyword id="6357722" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="silicon-valley">Silicon Valley</keyword> inside a company," added Mahindra. 
 A corporate garage, unlike a dedicated <keyword id="6357097" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="venture-capital">venture capital</keyword> or private equity fund, also has the advantage of being more flexible and staying invested for a long-term, he said. 
 
Terming the domestic startup ecosystem as "extremely robust", Mahindra said even though it trails the US and Israel at present, India is set to become the "hottest startup spot in the world." 
 
"You are only going to see more action. Whether it is about unicorns or cockroaches, you are going to see plenty of action," he said. 
 
Mahindra said people who launch startups within his group are called "intrapreneurs" and are spread across various verticals, including Tech MahindraBSE 1.39 % and the flagship auto company Mahindra and MahindraBSE 7.40 %. 
 
The close to USD 20-billion diversified group has a dedicated entity called Mahindra Partners that acts like the group's venture capital and private equity arm, and invests in companies both within and outside the group. 
 
"They have been given a notional allocation by our board. We have a very different approach. It is not a fund, because when you operate as a fund there is a point at which it is redeemed," he said. 
 
Mahindra Partners' website says it is a $900 million PE and VC division of the group. Tech Mahindra, the country's fifth biggest software exporter, has also earmarked $200 million for investments in startups.

Large companies are the new startup garages, not universities, says Anand Mahindra

There is a common perception that life could be better only in metro cities, but India’s tier-II cities are developing fast and offering opportunities for growth. One such example is Bhubaneswar, which is slowly becoming a hub for research and technology startups in the eastern region. 
 

	Let’s read about a person who moved from Kolkata to Bhubaneswar, looking for more opportunities to grow. Young geneticist <keyword id="2872592" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Birendranath-Banerjee">Birendranath Banerjee</keyword> studies the effect of lifestyle stresses on one's genes at <keyword id="543180" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="KIIT-University">KIIT University</keyword> in Bhubaneswar. He was not happy teaching in his hometown Kolkata when KIIT offered him a job with a promise of complete intellectual freedom. KIIT was then in the initial stages of setting up a business incubator, and Banerjee in the early stages of setting up a company. It was a perfect match. The company, <keyword id="2872593" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="InDNA">InDNA</keyword>, was set up in 2012. In just three years, it is expanding to Kolkata, Hyderabad, <keyword id="6354321" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Bengaluru">Bengaluru</keyword> and other cities. Banerjee got Rs 1 crore from the department of biotechnology, and Rs 2 crore subsequently from rich doctors in the region. 
	 

	He is talking to large companies to provide testing services for their employees, and to figure out how much stress has influenced the functioning of their genes. "We are looking at the effect of lifestyle on the entire genome," says Banerjee.
 

	InDNA is the most high-tech among the KIIT incubator companies. In the past four years, KIIT has invested Rs 15 crore in its building and Rs 10 crore in equipment, for which the DBT provided Rs 9 crore. It has incubated 34 companies, nine of which have moved out to their own offices and are in business. Bhubaneswar has other startups too, as the large IT companies have come to the city. With several institutes of higher education, including an <keyword id="6354859" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="IIT">IIT</keyword>, the city is slowly setting the foundation for becoming a hub for research and technology startups in the eastern region. Says Mrutyanjay Suar, director of biotechnology at KIIT: "Bhubaneswar is at the same stage where Bengaluru was in the early 1990s." 
	 

	With its sketchy business history and laidback culture, Bhubaneswar at first seems an unlikely birthplace for 21st century startups. None of its educational institutions has set the country on fire through its research. The city is well laid out but retains its rural charm, being on the edge of a large forest and an elephant trail. 
	 

	And yet there are signs of the city developing as a major eastern hub, as people of eastern origin started preferring the city to Kolkata. Consider IIT Bhubaneswar, one of the youngest among the country's elite institutions. It will eventually have a 1,000-acre campus, but it currently operates from a partially-abandoned government building, an environment that does not bother some of its young and distinguished faculty. 
	 

	Let’s talk about another person who fulfilled his dream in the city. 
	 

	Saroj Nayak returned from Rensselaer Polytechnic in the US a year ago to be a professor at IIT, despite several attempts by this famous institution to keep him back. Power cuts greeted him when he sat in his makeshift office, a situation he had never faced in his life. 
	 

	His answer was to make solar back-up system, which he now sells through his startup Karma. This unit, replete with a solar panel, a battery, a fan, phone charger and a light, sells for around Rs 4,500. Nayak also had a fair bit of intelligence built into the system for energy management. "We are trying to reduce the environmental impact of energy generation with minimal investment,” he says. The city is now sprouting luxurious new buildings, some of them built by large IT companies. <keyword id="6354512" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Infosys">Infosys</keyword> was the first, as it built its first campus outside Bengaluru. TCS has one of its swankiest offices in the city. MindTree has built a learning centre in Bhubaneswar right next to TCS, and sends all its new recruits for intensive training there. Chip design firm <keyword id="25700" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Sankalp">Sankalp</keyword> too has a development centre here. Bhubaneswar has some native IT startups too. Software services firm <keyword id="2873029" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="ESSPL">ESSPL</keyword>, started in the city in 1998, has offices around the world. AABSys, a geospatial and design software services company founded in 1996, is now a medium-sized company. But the current generation of startups, particularly from KIIT, are venturing beyond IT and solving problems of people in the region.

For this, the company has been going to Indian B-schools for the past few years now, trying to make relationships with incubators here and helping startups or innovations (from colleges as well as outside) find the right match and resources. 
 
So basically, the potential ideas or entrepreneurs are linked to IvyCamp's startups/investors/mentors network or corporations so that innovations from campuses are more visible, they can be commercialized and startups can leap onto the next level.

Holding Events On Campus 
 
Adhiraj Banerjee told Business Insider - "We are doing continuous events at IITs and IIMs and now we are headed to couple of other institutions as well. The idea here is to give the right direction to early stage entrepreneurs who need lot of mentoring in basic areas like how to build your B-plan, how to do your valuation and a sounding board for them." 
 
Setting up incubators 
 
As a part of their objective to help young innovators and entrepreneurs, IvyCamp is conducting education programmes with colleges and also setting up its own incubators. 
 
"Just in the last two weeks, we have signed 14 incubators. We are setting incubators in Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka and the idea is to not restrict the ecosystem to just the campuses. That means we will be doing the exact same things we are doing in colleges outside as well like pitch events, mentor events, education programmes etc," said Adhiraj. 
 
Tie-up with <keyword id="3558756" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="nasscom-10k-startups-programme">Nasscom 10k Startups Programme</keyword> 
 
IvyCamp felt the success of IoT startups coming out of India needed a consolidated boost. Adhiraj said – “This tie-up was therefore done to evangelize IoT and to help startups in this space in India get access to manufacturing units, connect with the industry who may use their applications and also connect them to the foreign governments.” 
 
Efforts to bring angel investors onboard 
 
Another way IvyCamp is trying to help startups is by roping in angel investors along with IvyCap Ventures investing in IvyCamp startups. 
“Sometimes we find startups during events or through our outreach programmes which we can be invested in. We have invested in two such startups recently and we are looking to increase that by bringing higher number of investors on the platform.”
