Most people on the internet are amused after reading the account of the IIT-K guy who tried to sell himself to <keyword id="6354742" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Flipkart">Flipkart</keyword>, on Flipkart. 
 <keyword id="3267642" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Aakash-Neeraj-Mittal">Aakash Neeraj Mittal</keyword>, currently an IIT K alumnus, was aspiring for the role of Project Manager at Flipkart and he thought the best way to do so might be selling his skill sets on Flipkart. 
 
He has listed himself for a price of Rs 27,60,200 but alas there is no EMI available. 
 
While to many, this might look new and innovative way to highlight your resume but in reality he is not the first one. The credit for this goes to Philippe Dubost who made a fake Amazon page to act as his resume. Dubost resume was termed by <a href="http://mashable.com/2013/01/24/amazon-page-best-resume-ever/#mYCextV2FmqA">Mashable</a> as the Best Online Resume ever! And till date, we think that he deserves that title. 
 
There were subtle traces of humour in his listing such as “Only one left in stick, order soon”. Additionally, as he had made this page from the group up, his attention to detail is worth taking note of. 
 
Even three years after making this page, when you visit it, we were greeted with an update on his employment status as: “March 26th 2013: After 2 months and 1,500,000 visitors, I've found THE job!” and his product listing has now been changed to unavailable. 
 
We wonder now after being lapped by Flipkart, what will be product listing for Mittal.

The IIT-K guy who sold himself on Flipkart is not the first to do so

As it turns out, cut-throat competition for every position available makes landing the dream job all the more impossible. But what can make you stand out from the hundreds of hopefuls vying for the same job as you are is how innovative you are with your <keyword id="93698" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="resume">resume</keyword>. 
 
Remember <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/A-woman-created-a-stunning-resume-to-land-her-dream-tech-job-it-got-her-immediate-interviews-with-Airbnb-Uber-and-LinkedIn/articleshow/48075915.cms">Nina Mufleh</a>, the girl who really really wanted to work for <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=airbnb">Airbnb</a> but had no luck getting in even after applying to all job listings and emailing the company uncountable times? She could’ve given up, but instead she channeled her determination into a website resembling Airbnb which showcased her knowledge regarding the travel industry. This unusual resume of hers attracted instant attention, with the CEO himself getting in touch with her and finalising a meeting. 
 And, her case is not just a one-off instance. Now, an IIT-Kharagpur alumni has put himself up on sale on <keyword id="6354742" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Flipkart">Flipkart</keyword>’s website as his resume, in hopes of landing a job! 
 All <keyword id="3267622" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Akash-Neeraj-Mittal">Akash Neeraj Mittal</keyword>, a 6-pointer wanted was to work with <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=flipkart">Flipkart</a> as its <keyword id="36026" type="POSITION" weightage="100" keywordseo="product-manager">Product Manager</keyword> but the only question was- why should Flipkart hire him? 
 
And, after a stroke of genius- he gave them a reason. 
 
Using Flipkart’s standard template, Mittal created a resume which included putting himself up for sale on the website, along with including features, product Specifications, dimensions and details of his education and achievements. To make his resume all the more authentic, he included reviews, as well. Basically, all the information anyone would require incase they were in the mood to buy the product-him, in this case! 
 
 
And, guess what? Mittal is also a published author. 
 
Explaining what made him take this unusual step, Mittal said, "When you are a 6-pointer and competing with best of the best minds of the country, you know how hard it is to land a job. You start doing some crazy and random stuff to stand out from the crowd. This is my resume for Flipkart's APM Profile. I didn't get an interview call though, but I hope it will bring a smile on someone's face." 
 
Incase you were wondering, his price tag is set at Rs 27, 60,200. True to Flipkart’s values, the delivery is obviously free of cost! 
 
There’s also a lifetime warranty and because it’s sold by IIT-Kharagpur, there’s also a guarantee- ‘Best since 1951!’ 
 
To sum it up in his words, "They wanted someone who could sell a product. I sold myself to them."

#1 Social Media hate for ‘wasting public money’ 
Scan social media, and you’ll find widespread hate and animosity because of the amount of money the government spends on educating IITians. They are supposedly a liability for the nation. 
 
Comments like ‘Our IITs have swallowed 1000 Crores each year for 60 years and haven’t done any net real value addition to 1.3 billion people’, or ‘Ask for tenders from private people globally to operate and manage all govt run academic institutions under license for 30 years (without selling any real assets) and let govt stop interfering.’ 
 
Is it reasonable to hand over the country’s brightest brains to money mongers? Shouldn’t quality education be available to all? 
 Internet tolls, if you haven’t cracked <keyword id="1629952" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="JEE-mains">JEE Mains</keyword> and Advanced, it means you haven’t worked hard enough. IITians can be anything, lucky isn’t one of them. 
 
#2 Bhai, tera package kitna hai? (Dude, what’s your package?) 
The idea is ‘IITians mostly settle abroad. Those who remain draw annual salaries of over Rs. 25 lakhs.’ 
 
Reality is 80% of IIT salaries remain below Rs. 12 lakhs p.a. It’s easy to file an RTI and find this out, but spreading social media hate is just easier. 
 
Also, if you’re cribbing they’re ‘taking away’ your job, people like <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Infosys">Infosys</a> founder <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=N.R.+Narayan+Murthy">N.R. Narayan Murthy</a> and the Bansals of <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Flipkart">Flipkart</a> are offering thousands of jobs. If you can’t land a job, you’re not good enough. 
 
Work hard, and by the way, get a life. 
 
#3 You must be Superman! 
Not every IITian wants to go to an IIM or join the IAS. 
 
The idea is that if you’re from IIT, you’re a master in everything. If your package is anything below Rs. 30 to 40 lakhs per annum, you spent your IIT days dating random girls, getting sloshed and smoking LSD. 
 
My idea is that IITs should feel like the Navy Seals training program. So much stress. They’re 18 year olds right out of school for god’s sake. They’re in college to study, not in a mission to kill <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Osama+bin+Laden">Osama bin Laden</a>! 
 
Bad parents, an IIT degree doesn’t come with a confirmed job offer from <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Google">Google</a>. Also, don’t salivate over the prospect of 30% hike on dowry. 
 
That’s just sick…and a crime. 
 
Love on Campus? 
IITians are blessed with a 10:1 ratio of boys to girls. 
 
If you’re a man, you may not find many girls to chat or date. 
 
If you found love on campus…you deserve respect.

A day after <keyword id="6354742" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Flipkart">Flipkart</keyword> announced that they had $1 billion in the bag as funding, <keyword id="18635" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Amazon">Amazon</keyword> said they will infuse $2 billion in to India operations and expand the business at a rapid pace. The <keyword id="35621" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="e-commerce">e-commerce</keyword> fight between the Indian and the global giant is heating up and here is our take of the whole situation and what the consumers can expect. 
 
Flipkart started off slow in the initial years, but then picked up lot speed after 2010. Consumers would see the Flipkart branding on walls, hoardings in the city and even in TV commercials. The company left no stone unturned to attract web visitors to its platform to buy anything and everything. After electronics and books, the company introduced fashion apparels along with accessories to the customers. 
 
However, everything was not hunky dory. There are numerous reports in the tabloids and on the web that Flipkart is bleeding money. There were also the debatable reports of users getting empty gadget boxes or boxes with stones/bricks in them instead of the laptop or mobile. But, that did not stop the founding partners, Sachin Bansal and Binny Bansal, to make Flipkart what it is today.

 Till now, Flipkart’s model has somewhat worked and consumers do come back to this e-tailer for various buying needs. Amazon And Flipkart Fight, Who Will Win?

<keyword id="6400882" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="TVF">TVF</keyword> is on a roll. With their Pitchers series and ‘Tu Beer Hai *ahem ahem*’ getting accolades across the country, they’ve recently launched the 2nd Season of Permanent Roommates. 
 For the uninitiated, <keyword id="2997521" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="TVF-Pitchers">TVF Pitchers</keyword> is about four friends, Naveen Bansal (Naveen), Jitendra Maheshwari (Jitu), Yogendra Kumar (Yogi), and Saurabh Mandal (Mandal) launching their own start-up. 
 
The series revolves around how these four friends rediscover what they really want from life and the challenges they face to get their off the ground. 
 Business Insider India spoke to <keyword id="1362593" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Arunabh-Kumar">Arunabh Kumar</keyword>, the CEO of The Viral Fever on how it all started. 
 
How did you stumble upon this idea? 
I wrote TVF Pitches back in July 2012. The idea back then was to write a startup comedy. 
 
It took us 3 years, but it couldn’t have been timed better. 2015 is when the startup boom happened, and we decided to tell an aspirational story rather than give it a comic treatment. That’s how it started, the rest is history. 
 
What was the core idea? 
For startups it’s always about pitching. The idea was to have a series on Pitchers - people who pitch till the evening and sit over a pitcher in the evening.People say Bangalore’s a copy of Silicon Valley. They couldn’t be more mistaken. 
 
What was your research like? 
I passed out of IIT Kharagpur in 2006, and 2008 was when a lot of this started. I remember meeting Abhishek, a friend who had invested in Flipkart, a company that sold second hand books. Me and Golu met a couple of startups in Bangalore. There were friends in IIT Bombay. 
 We wanted to keep it very real. That’s why we also got <keyword id="192201" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Kunal-Shah">Kunal Shah</keyword> and <keyword id="219793" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Kunal-Bahl">Kunal Bahl</keyword> to feature in it. 
 
What has the reaction been so far? 
‘Tu Beer hai’ has become the new startup phrase. One couldn’t have asked for more.The series has gone on to become the 22nd best show globally. Many more will discover it with the upcoming 2nd season. 
 
Next Season? When’s that? 
By the end of the year. 
 
Will you consider a TV Series like On Air with <keyword id="1875393" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="AIB">AIB</keyword>? 
We’re in talks with several networks, but that’s a different art form altogether. They’re (AIB) the best guys to do it. We generally work on fiction. 
 
What triggered the standup comedy boom in India? 
The credit goes to people like Rivaldo and AIB. That way people have started laughing, and developed a sense of humor. 
 
Creators have also realized it’s the easier thing to do over the tedious art direction and costume designing, writing and editing. 
 
If you write well and are a goof performer you can pick up a mike and get going! 
 
Do you think it was the tipping point of intolerance or the comic buildup that helped? 
I think it was a gradual buildup. The <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=AIB">AIB</a> Roast controversy was really the trigger. When you have idols to aim to it makes the job so much easier. It helps the ecosystem. It’s a welcome change. 
 
What’s your idea of the under 35 young and progressive Indian youth? 
They’re sensible, honest and want to watch quality entertainment. 
 
It’s more than the horniness, booze and profanity. The problem really is that the content generators know only these. The creators need to work really hard. The industry can’t be lazy and replicate tried-and-tested models. 
 
Your advice to a to-be YouTuber. 
Enjoy the process rather than the result. 
 
If you enjoy making videos you’ll end up becoming a film-maker . If you like the idea of being a film-maker, you’ll end up being no one.

 Bezos got a lukewarm welcome from India’s trade and industry minister Piyush Goyal Yet, Bezos received a tepid response from the government – probably due to the backlash from trader unions who are blaming him and his industry for weeding them out. Goyal and the government are probably trying hard to placate the small traders who were protesting Bezos’ visit. There may be a reason for Goyal playing hard to get. After all, India is supposed to be one of world’s largest e-commerce markets, which will scale to the size of $84 billion by 2021, <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/industry/services/retail/indian-e-commerce-market-to-touch-usd-84-billion-in-2021-report/articleshow/68169239.cms?from=mdr">according to Deloitte</a>.  Early last year, Amazon had to remove hundreds of thousands of products from its platform as government does not allow foreign players to sell products of companies that it has a stake in. Further, the draft e-commerce policy wants to curb foreign players with deep pockets like Amazon and Walmart-owned Flipkart from doling out deep discounts. Some of these rules not only put the early movers like Bezos at a disadvantage, but also provide a flatten the ground in favour of the likes of Mukesh Ambani ⁠— the owner of India’s biggest conglomerate Reliance Industries ⁠— who is now entering technology-related businesses. Bezos probably wanted to meet the Prime Minister to possibly appeal against the roadblocks for his <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/apple-microsoft-aws-adobe-akamai-and-ibm-want-discussion-on-personal-data-protection-bill-before-parliament/articleshow/69768390.cms">business in India</a>. But government officials had flatly <a href="https://www.ndtv.com/india-news/jeff-bezos-india-visit-government-snubs-jeff-bezos-was-refused-appointment-with-pm-say-sources-2165509">refused a meeting</a>. Narendra Modi might have concerns other than elections and traders – his own image. BJP’s <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/industry/services/retail/after-indias-amazon-snub-bjp-slams-jeff-bezos-owned-washington-post/articleshow/73324340.cms">foreign affairs head Vijay Chauthaiwale </a>had blamed Washington Post, owned by Bezos, for unflattering coverage of India and Modi, especially with regards to <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2019/08/06/this-is-modi-governments-darkest-moment/">abrogation of Article 370 </a>in Kashmir. Added to that, a Post column had also referred to Modi<a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2019/11/13/narendra-modi-is-indias-trump/"> as India’s Trump</a>, but not before both of them made many public appearances and Modi also called him, “a good friend”. The Post columnist said “1.3 billion Indians are seeing their freedoms erode under the autocratic rule of Modi”. This did not go down well with the government which has spent millions on Modi’s international campaign. Bezos had already ruffled a lot of feathers in his home turf after he lost a lucrative contract due to Trump’s anger against the newspaper. In India too, his fortunes might be tied to the post, if he doesn’t placate Modi, and the trading community that he belongs to. <ul><li>Sabhyata, an ethnic wear brand that is now pegged at ₹120 Crore, is aiming to become ₹200 Crore brand by the end of next financial year. </li><li>The brand is hopeful about its sales from Diwali — aims to collect 25% of its revenue from the on-going festive season. </li><li>Now on 110 stores in India, the ethnic wear brand will be adding 50 stores every year in India and expand its presence to Nepal, Sri Lanka, Singapore in three years. It will also be available on Myntra from next month. </li><li>Built on strong word-of-mouth, Sabhyata has also launched its third campaign to increase customer retention and brand value. </li></ul>While most e-commerce platforms lure their customers with high discounts and big media splash during the festive season, Sabhyata, an ethnic wear brand, is pinning all its hopes on its single advertisement, organic social media promotions, and offering good-quality product range. Launched in 2003, Sabhyata has truly believed in its product and in the power of social media since the beginning. It started advertising in the mainstream media only three years ago, before that, word-of-mouth did wonders for the brand. Chayan Verma, Head of Marketing, Sabhyata believes the reason behind this strong word-of-mouth was its variety of products and cost-effectiveness. It targets working women, who need new attire every day for work in their limited budget, says Verma. Even now, 80% of Sabhyata’s marketing monnies go to social media and the remaining 20% are divided between in-cinema ads and a little bit of outdoor advertising. After 16 years of its existence, the brand has only three big campaigns in its kitty. In 2011, Sabhyata only had three stores and the tables only turned in the last seven years when the brand started growing at the rate of 800% YoY. Now, on the back of the festive season and the promotion around its new campaign, Sabhyata further aims to grow from ₹120 Crore to ₹200 Crore by the end of this financial year. While 95% of its revenue comes from women’s ethnic wear, Sabhyata will be increasing its focus on men’s collection in two years as the number of its stores in India increase. Now on 110 stores in India, Sabhyata aims to launch 50 stores every year and in three years, the brand also will be taking its ethnicity to Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Singapore. It is also present on Flipkart, Amazon, and will be available on Myntra from next month. However, Verma says these platforms can only offer visibility and since its inception, Sabhyata hasn’t believed in offering discounts. “The only thing you get on e-commerce is brand visibility and repetition of your old stocks. E-commerce, right now, is a discounting market altogether. It is very difficult to sell fresh stock on it. So from the marketing and branding point of view, we are focusing on that, but not on the point of revenue.” One Campaign a Year Sabhyata plans to launch only one advertisement every year during Diwali. Being an ethnic brand, festive season plays an important role in spurring its growth and contributes about 25% to its overall revenue. On why only one campaign a year, Verma expounds, “From a marketing point of view, we have learnt that Diwali is the best time to put in any ads and that’s when you get the eyeballs from customers.” Objective Behind Sabhyata’s latest ad Sabhyata’s latest advertisement starring Jatin Sarna, Sheeba Chadha, and Anupriya Goenka aims to redefine the relationship between a daughter-in-law and her mother- in-law. Through the infamous domestic Saas-Bahu war around who will make the tea, the video showcases how when both women refuse to budge from their point, making one of them move to the kitchen seems to be an impossible task. Finding himself in a difficult situation for having to keep up as an ideal son for the mother’s sake and an ideal husband for the wife’s sake, the man of the house is found going back and forth to reach the unconventional answer. Having absolutely zero knowledge of the technical know-how near the stove, he moves in to rescue the festivity of the day.

 Sabhyata is one of the few brands in India to on-board an infamous character - Jatin Sarna, best known for his negative role in Sacred Games. For the longest time, brands have shied away from using a villain in their advertisement. Verma tells us that it was an intentional choice. “This man (Jatin Sarna) has been portrayed in Sacred Games as kind of a womaniser and we wanted to bring this character into the film specifically just to prove a point; he eventually learns a lesson. People actually can relate to this guy, I suppose those ‘typical guys’ who are, shying away from household work and we wanted to portray what society expects from them,” he adds. With its advertisement of this year, Sabhyata aims to increase brand value and customer retention. According to Verma, retaining customers is the biggest problem that garment players of all kinds are facing. A single mistake in today’s market, says Verma, and the customer is long gone. It is with campaigns like these that Sabhyata is facing the challenge upbeat. “The objective is not to make revenue -- it's about creating the brand value in the minds of the customer, especially the women out here. When someone is wearing a Sabhyata product, he/she should be proud of what they are wearing,” shares Verma. Media Plan Sabhyata believes in getting the most bang for its buck. The ethnic wear brand has spent ₹15 lakh on its latest advertisement, which was conceptualized and made in-house, and might spend ₹5 lakh more on pushing the advertisement on digital media. “We have only invested in the advertisement. If the idea and concept is right, you don't need much marketing funds to sell it,” believes Verma. Plan Ahead Going forward, Sabhyata will be working towards being the most recalled ethnic brand in India. “In the next three years, we see Sabhyata with 250 exclusive outlets and more than ₹ 300 crore turnover. Sabhyata will also be present at all the LFS stores, be it Central, Pantaloons, or Westside. Apart from that, we want to be present on all online platforms. We want the brand recall to be so strong that when someone thinks about ethnic collection, Sabhyata is at the top of their mind. Through these digital efforts, we try to celebrate all relationships and connect to our audience in ways they understand and can relate to,” concludes Verma.

What's tiny, flies at 120kph and can perform acrobatics in the air? A racing <keyword id="6354474" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="drone">drone</keyword>, of course. Contrary to what many think, drones are not completely illegal in <keyword id="3658" type="COUNTRY" weightage="20" keywordseo="India">India</keyword>. In fact, there's a budding <keyword id="2913897" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="drone-racing">drone racing</keyword> community in the country, flying drones at breakneck speeds and slowly making careers out of the sport. As with many things in technology today, India isn't that far behind the world either. Sure, there's work to be done, governments to convince and more people to onboard. Yet, Karan Kamdar, the man behind 1 Martian Way, the company that created the <keyword id="6462453" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="indian-drone-racing">Indian Drone Racing</keyword> League (<keyword id="4634776" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="idrl">IDRL</keyword>), says his community has been growing fast. The IDRL began just under two years ago. Kamdar's community was slow at first but has reached over 800 members now. The organisation has tie-ups with colleges, including IITs, BITS Pilani and more. It gets 15-25 participants in each race, most of which are held between October and April. What is drone racing? Like any race, drone races are about speed, timing and competing against one another. However, no drone race is complete without the first person view. That's why most drone racing events are prefixed by an "FPV". Unlike other races, a drone pilot doesn't see the world in front of him/her. They see what the drone sees, through tiny cameras fitted atop the drone. The pilot wears a head-mounted display, looking at the live stream from the drone's camera. That's all they have to steer the drone. There are also online events for drone racers. In these, pilots hook their controllers to computers and a software simulates a real-world drone race. The pilot chooses the drone they want and still get the first person view. The FPV element is what drives many pilots. Siddharth Nayak, a.k.a FlyingSid pegs this feeling as the reason for why people like racing drones. The video below is one Nayak made while flying his drones. Nayak has been a professional drone racer for about two years now, although he still does it as a hobby and not his primary source of income. The tracks for these races include obstacles that pilots have to manoeuvre. Currently, Indian drone races use football nets to make "gates" that pilots have to fly their drones through.  Racing drones fly at 120kph (and even faster), so a sudden crash can be devastating on the drone itself. And the pilot's pocket. Equipment To drone pilots, as with any sportsperson, the equipment is important. While most drone-related coverage in India centres around companies like DJI and their intelligent drones, the ones used for racing are custom made. Pro drone pilots like Nayak and Ritvik Nesargi build their own drones, with custom fitted motors, controllers and more. Nayak and Nesargi are two of India's top drone racing pilots. The cost of making a drone depends on the parts used.  You need some technical know-how to become a drone pilot. IDRL's Kamdar says pro pilots are differentiated from amateurs not just by skill, but by how well they understand the engineering. Their understanding of motors, controllers and what would best suit their drones can differentiate the best from the rest. An entry-level drone can be built for as little as Rs. 10,000, but if you want to race against serious pros, it's going to be expensive. When you're learning, you'll likely wreck your drone often, making and remaking it with each new step. There are also no drone racing tracks available in the country, so you'll have to make one for yourself. Nayak says he's bought some football nets for himself and he goes to parks and other open areas to practice. Easier said than done That said, practising has its own challenges. When organisations like IDRL are involved, dealing with regulations becomes a tad easier. However, both Nesargi and Nayak have to inform the police every time they decide to fly their drones in public. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) allows nano-drones (drones that weigh under 250 grams) to be flown without registration.  Nayak, Nesargi and Kamdar agree that for drone racing to be an accepted sport, the regulations need to be simpler. In fact, Kamdar says the government confuses between racing drones and regular drones. Unlike other drones, racing drones record only while racing, fly for only three minutes at a time and can't rise more than a few feet in the air. They're all about racing and manoeuvrability. Drones are also allowed to fly within educational institutions, as long as they're for educational purposes. Nayak says drone pilots have a responsibility to not fly over crowded areas and they should respect that too. Private support The IDRL, for the longest time, has been the only real place for drone racers to get competition. To keep afloat, IDRL now charges membership fees and sells merchandise (like jerseys) right now. It also charges colleges small sums for arranging drone racing competitions at various campuses. IDRL has established tie-ups with companies in Korea, perhaps the country where drone racing is most widely accepted. It also has tie-ups in the US and more. Kamdar says he will increase international efforts when the IDRL's member-base reaches around 2000.

 That said, the IDRL was instrumental in sending Nesargi to the Eurogamer Expo in the UK recently. In turn, Nesargi won races there, ending up in the finals of the event. And all that is now being supplemented by Smaaash, a gaming and entertainment company in India. You may have seen their outlets, spread over Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Gurgaon and other cities. Smaaash's establishments have so far been known for embracing virtual reality and other future-facing technologies for entertainment. The company just started its own Drone Racing league in Mumbai over the weekend. However, the weekend event is just the beginning. Shripal Morakhia, the founder of Smaaash says he plans to make it an international level league. There's a larger event planned for November, where Morakhia will be inviting international drone racers to compete against Indian pros. The first event saw amateurs race against each other, while pros battled it out on their own terms too. The amateur and pro races were separate, but Smaaash's efforts could bring more interested parties into the community. On the sidelines of Smaaash's event, the company creates drone-based games. The Drone Castle Race is a game that emulates Mario, with jumping drones clearing obstacles and racing against each other. On the other hand, Drone Soccer is a game of football played with drones instead of humans. Smaaash plans to incorporate these into its establishments around the country eventually. Making a career But much like any sport, private support can help open doors. When asked about drone racing as a career, Nayak said you don't do it for the money, you do it for passion. While Nayak has earned from his escapades, he doesn't see it as a viable career just yet. Neither does Nesargi, who also races drones as a hobby. Nesargi is currently a student at the Maharashtra Institute of Engineering in Pune. He says most of a drone racers income comes from prize money, which is not aplenty right now.

 Smaaash is offering a prize pool of Rs. 3,20,000 to the winners. There will be three winners in the pro races, with Rs. 1,00,000, Rs. 50,000 and Rs. 25,000 to the first, second and third positions, respectively. (Update: Nesargi and Nayak took the first and second spots, respectively.) IDRL also offers prize money at its events. However, the cost of equipment, travel, stay etc. usually cover the income from most events, including Smaaash's. Nesargi says you can make about Rs. 30,000 if you're regularly winning events. Lower rung competitors can still get travel and stay expenses, but none of that is enough to make a legitimate profession out of drone racing just yet. This is what private players can solve. In 2016, the World Drone Prix in Dubai had a million dollar prize pool. The winner, 15-year-old Luke Bannister from the UK, won $250,000 for his efforts, the biggest ever prize in drone racing at the time. If 1 Martian Way, Smaaash and future entrants are able to build enough interest, similar returns could be arranged.

 Opportunity to grow Internationally, drone racing is quickly becoming a legitimate profession. While it's not really a large community yet, the sport has a certain thrill to it, just like professional wrestling. Smaaash's races are going to be held at night, for which drones are fitted with LEDs. While it doesn't change the racing aspect for the pilots, it's more flashy and makes for a better watch.

The fact that there are so many drones and AI companies already means sponsorships should never be a problem. And to top it all, Indian drone pilots certainly do not lack the technical know-how required to do well. The drone racing community in India has been growing steadily, but it has picked up in the last year. Smaaash's event is one of the first big private investments in the sport and racers do hope there are more to come. It's as Nayak says, there's a long way to go, but there's definitely some potential here.
