As per reports, 10 students accepted offers that fell within this range. These figures are more common in sectors such as education and design, where entry-level salaries tend to be modest compared to other fields. <h2>IIT Bombay 2024 placements: Number of students who got jobs </h2>Out of the 2,414 students who registered for placements, 1,475 students secured job offers, bringing the placement rate to 74.53%. The placement drive saw participation from 364 companies, with 1,650 job offers being made. In addition to full-time roles, internships also played a crucial part in student preparation and employment. These offers were largely made after the completion of summer internships, highlighting the importance of these internships in securing full-time positions. <h2>Comparison of the number of students placed in the last four years</h2>IIT Bombay has seen lesser student placement numbers over when compared to last year. However, when we look at the last four years, the numbers have been stable. In the 2020-2021 season, 1,150 students were placed, which rose to 1,441 in 2021-2022. The peak was reached in 2022-2023 with 1,516 placements, while this year saw a slight decrease to 1,475. The B.Tech program led the way with 683 placements, followed by the M.Tech program with 415 placements. IT services major Tata Consultancy Services has entered into a partnership with the <keyword id="19895063" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="India" source="keywords">India</keyword>n Institute of Technology-Bombay, to develop what it said is India's first <keyword id="21836125" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="quantum-diamond-microchip-imager" source="keywords">quantum diamond microchip imager</keyword>. According to a statement from the IT services major on Tuesday, this to-be-developed sensing tool will hold the potential to unlock new levels of precision in the examination of <keyword id="20649044" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="semiconductor-chips" source="keywords">semiconductor chips</keyword>, reduce chip failures and improve the energy efficiency of electronic devices. Over the next two years, experts from <keyword id="19950203" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="TCS" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="TCS" meta.hostid="268" meta.entityid="TCS">TCS</keyword> will work with Dr Kasturi Saha, Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering of IIT-Bombay to develop the tool. As semiconductors continue to shrink in size, traditional sensing methods lack the precision and capabilities to detect anomalies in the chips, TCS asserted. The to-be-developed Quantum Diamond Microchip Imager can image magnetic fields, enabling a non-invasive and non-destructive mapping of semiconductor chips, much like an MRI at a hospital. It uses the defects in a diamond's structure, known as Nitrogen-Vacancy (NV) centers, together with the other hardware and software for detecting and characterizing anomalies in semiconductor chips. New Delhi, Jun 11 () Using a computer model, scientists at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) - Bombay have shown that a hotter and drier weather is linked to lower survival chances of the novel coronavirus on surfaces, a finding that may lead to better sanitisation guidelines for public spaces across the world. The study, published in the journal Physics of Fluids, assessed how long the novel coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2, remains viable for infection after someone with COVID-19 coughs or sneezes. In order to calculate this, the researchers, including Rajneesh Bhardwaj and Amit Agarwal from IIT-Bombay, examined the drying time of respiratory droplets from infected subjects on various surfaces in six cities around the world, including New York and Singapore. These droplets, which are about the size of the width of a single human hair, are expelled from the mouth or nose when a person with COVID-19 coughs, sneezes, or even speaks moistly, the study noted. Once the droplets carrying the virus evaporate, the scientists said the residual virus becomes inactive, so the survival and transmission of COVID-19 are directly impacted by how long the droplets remain intact. Based on their analysis, the researchers said the growth rate of COVID-19 is weakly linked to the outdoor weather, adding that the chances of the survival of the virus "increases roughly by five times under a humid condition as compared to a dry condition." In the study, the scientists used a mathematical model to assess the drying time for the droplets under different conditions and showed that ambient temperature, the type of surface, and humidity play critical roles. Citing an example, they said higher ambient temperature helped to dry out the droplet faster, and drastically reduced the chances of virus survival. The researchers added that in places with greater humidity, the droplet stayed on surfaces longer, and the virus survival chances improved. They also determined the droplet drying time in different outdoor weather conditions and examined if this data connected to the growth rate of the COVID-19 pandemic in six cities across the world -- New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, Sydney, and Singapore. When the scientists plotted the growth rate of COVID-19 patients in these places with the drying time of a typical droplet, they found that in the cities with a larger growth rate of the pandemic, the drying time was longer. "In a way, that could explain a slow or fast growth of the infection in a particular city. This may not be the sole factor, but definitely, the outdoor weather matters in the growth rate of the infection," said Rajneesh Bhardwaj, one of the co-authors of the study. "Understanding virus survival in a drying droplet could be helpful for other transmissible diseases that spread through respiratory droplets, such as influenza A," said Amit Agrawal, another author of the study. Citing the limitations of the study, the scientists said they assumed air to be stationary in their model along with the consideration that the evaporation time is expected to reduce in the presence of air currents. "The value of the predicted evaporation times is on the conservative side, and the actual evaporation time will be smaller than that obtained here," the researchers noted in the study. Despite these drawbacks in the model, they believe that surfaces like smartphone screens, cotton, and wood, should be cleaned more often than glass and steel surfaces since the latter are relatively hydrophilic, and the droplets evaporate faster on these materials. IIT-Ropar sees highest salary of ₹50 lakh per annum

Kumar and Jain started their career at fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) giant ITC’s agribusiness division, whereas Batchu and Naik were directly involved in farming. The company works with small-hold farmers on a profit sharing model and offers assistance across various stages of the farming cycle using technology. Vegrow provides a technology platform to farmers, which can be used to get high quality farm inputs and best farming practices. The platform also enables farmers to sell their harvest to the right buyers for the right price. The B2B startup claims to help farmers in getting higher returns, reducing supply-chain wastage and improving procurement for wholesalers. The company’s founders have emphasised that the new funding will help Vegrow to expand to 100 new cities, invest in technology and launch new products. The company claims to be one of the largest companies for pomegranates in the country in less than a year. Meanwhile, Lightspeed’s partner Vaibhav Agrawal said that companies building a tech-enabled marketplace between farmers and buyers could help eliminate inefficiencies and would have large market opportunities eventually. “Additionally, many marketplaces have scaled up on negative unit margins in this category, so we were really impressed by the growth and positive unit margin Vegrow has demonstrated using its technology-oriented approach to standardise quality, minimise inventory and retain farmers,” Agrawal added. Agritech startup Vegrow raises $13 million Lightspeed, Elevation

However, a few<a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/covid-crisis-forces-at-least-4-iits-to-ditch-final-year-exams/articleshow/76165911.cms"> Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs)</a> — Mumbai, Kanpur, Roorkee and Kharagpur campuses — are doing away with final graduation exams in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic. While others are evaluating online examination modules, grading systems and early graduation. <keyword id="6359674" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="iit-roorkee">IIT Roorkee</keyword> said that it will promote students of 2019-20 batch based on performance grade points. However, it mentioned that the students can appear for the exam later, if they don’t want to go ahead with the grading pattern. "We have introduced a system to convert a pass letter grade to a Satisfactory (S) grade without grade point if a student requests for the same. The weightage ranges of various evaluation components have been revised. Further, students also have the option to appear in a re-exam to improve their grades," Director AK Chaturvedi told news agency PTI. IIT Kharagpur and Kanpur have decided to mark students based on internal assessments including viva, projects, quizzes and mid-semester exams. The institute has formulated a special committee to work on the grading scheme. In fact, as an exception due to COVID crisis, <keyword id="108320" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="IIT-Kanpur">IIT Kanpur</keyword> said that no student will fail this year, and the grades would be marked as A,B,C or S. On similar lines, <keyword id="61708" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="IIT-Bombay">IIT Bombay</keyword> will evaluate students based on their performance in the mid-semester examinations while up to 20% weightage can be given to online exams — if all the students register to appear in it. Students can choose the ‘Audit pass/fail’ option or a credit option. For audit pass/fail, instructors will declare the cutoff. For credit options, students will take online tests, home exams, assignments and viva voice as applicable. IIT Bombay, Kharagpur, Roorkee and Kanpur students will not have to sit for final year exams

Online higher education company <keyword id="2008319" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Upgrad">upGrad</keyword> on Monday announced it has acquired video-enabled learning <keyword id="11309728" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="solutions-provider-impartus">solutions provider Impartus</keyword>, committing over ₹150 crore towards the buyout as well as to boost its growth. Impartus, now a 100 per cent subsidiary of upGrad, has been rebranded as 'upGrad Campus'. 'upGrad Campus' will target higher education institutions and college students, with its learning tools and world-class content, in an integrated solution, the company said in a statement, aiming to close the <keyword id="44623" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Financial-Year">financial year</keyword> 2022 with nearly ₹85 crore revenue. "The synergy of Impartus and upGrad will pave the way for augmenting college education by helping learners upskill with new-age courses, thus elevating their candidature for better career prospects," said Amit Mahensaria, CEO, upGrad Campus. With this acquisition, upGrad said it will now be able to strengthen its presence among HigherEd institutions and learners, which is a ₹560 billion market. Online higher education company upGrad acquires learning solutions provider Impartus for ₹150 crore in search of growth

<keyword id="10591" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Samsung">Samsung</keyword> India on Monday announced that it has provided <keyword id="6428542" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Scholarships">scholarships</keyword> to 517 <keyword id="3216" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="students">students</keyword> at the Indian Institute of Technology (<keyword id="6354859" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="IIt">IIT</keyword>) and National Institute of Technology (<keyword id="67810" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="NIT">NIT</keyword>), as part of its 'Samsung Star Scholar programme'. These scholarships are offered every year to financially support less privileged students from Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) schools who qualify to these prestigious engineering colleges, the company said in a statement. The programme offers a scholarship of up to Rs 2 lakh for expenses related to tuition, examination, hostel and mess for one academic year and it can be renewed every year up to 5 years. Started in 2016, Samsung Star Scholar programme, now in its fifth year, has so far benefitted 650 JNV students. "Samsung Star Scholar programme is an extension of this effort and we are very pleased that this year despite the challenges on the ground, we have been able to reach out to these gifted students," said Peter Rhee, Corporate Vice President and Deputy Managing Director, Samsung India. Under this annual programme, the company offers scholarships to meritorious students pursuing full-term B. Tech/Dual Degree (B.Tech and M.Tech) course at any IIT or NIT. This year, the programme has granted 150 scholarships to new applicants from JNVs, of which 85 will begin their journey across 14 different IITs and 65 at 15 different NITs across the country. According to the company, scholarships for 367 students currently pursuing full-term B.Tech/Dual Degree (B.Tech + M.Tech) have been renewed for the next year. Recipients of renewed scholarships include 175 second year students, 94 third year students and 97 fourth year students. Also, Samsung India and Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti partnership began in 2013 with the 'Samsung Smart Class' programme which was aimed at providing quality education for children from rural backgrounds. At present, the 'Smart Class' programme is operational at 683 Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya schools. So far, over 430,000 students have benefitted from it and over 8,000 teachers have been trained on how to use interactive technology to teach. Samsung grants scholarships to 517 IIT, NIT students in India

In a world increasingly propelled by technology, university research makes for the foundation of any nation's economic growth. 
 In line with this, the much awaited Rs 100 crore Research Park at IIT-Bombay is all set to come up in the <keyword id="1003683" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Powai-Campus">Powai campus</keyword> this year. 
 
Even as the building will take another 2 years to complete, the good news is it will start functioning this year with a few firms who have already collaborated with the institute. 
 The research park aims to become a facilitator in bringing together <keyword id="61708" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="IIT-Bombay">IIT Bombay</keyword> and industry to expand R&amp;D collaboration and promote entrepreneurship. 
 
The new facility will enable IITB to become the nucleus of entrepreneurship in the Powai Valley, similar to the role played by Stanford University in the Silicon Valley and MIT in Route 128. 
 The facility will provide a diverse range of expertise in areas like energy, aviation, semiconductors, construction, IT and <keyword id="6354776" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Telecom">Telecom</keyword>, automotive, chemical, industrial design, metals/material and Biotech/Pharma.

IIT-B's Research Park - The Innovation Hub that every IIT should have

The <keyword id="1129131" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="scientific-community">scientific community</keyword> has stated that they had hinted to the Central government about the <keyword id="2987267" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="new-variants">new variants</keyword> of Covid-19 virus and also an increase in the cases in May this year. The community, however, did not make any prediction due to lack of data analysis. Dr. M. <keyword id="6541669" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="vidyasagar">Vidyasagar</keyword>, who is a professor at <keyword id="6354859" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="IIt">IIT</keyword> (Hyderabad), stated that by March 13 this year Covid cases were showing an upward trend but as they did not have requisite data available so they did not make any prediction. Vidyasagar further stated that after they hinted, the government said the authorities made long- and medium-term plans to short-term plans. Based on the events of the past few weeks, however, those plans seem to have been inadequate, said Vidyasagar citing the current crisis of oxygen supply across the country. The IIT Kanpur study in April also stated that the daily cases in the second wave will increase by May 8. The Kanpur study also predicted a peak of 38 to 44 lakh active cases between May 14 and May 18. The scientists also stated in March that they had alerted the government about the new and more contagious variant of the coronavirus -- SARS-CoV-2 Genetics Consortium, or INSACOG. The institution was set up by the government in December last year, specifically to detect genomic variants of the coronavirus. The institution examined 10 national laboratories across the country studying virus variants. The institution first detected B.1.617 as early as February. Ajay Parida, director of the state-run <keyword id="3748353" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="institute-of-life-sciences">Institute of Life Sciences</keyword> and a member of INSACOG, reportedly stated that they first detected B.1.617 in February and alerted the government. The <keyword id="83655" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Union-health-ministry">Union Health Ministry</keyword>'s <keyword id="6367874" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="national-centre-for-disease-control">National Centre for Disease Control</keyword> received the finding in March. The finding reportedly stated that the mutations, called E484Q and L452R, were of high concern. It stated E484Q mutant viruses escaping highly neutralising antibodies in cultures, and L452R mutation was responsible for both increased transmissibility and immune escape. The mutated versions of the virus could more easily enter a human cell and counter a person's immune response to it, according to the findings. The ministry put the findings in public domain in March stating that 'more problematic variants required following measures already underway'.
