New Delhi [India], January 5 (ANI): A recent case study conducted by the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Lucknow, commissioned by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), unveils a success story for the Indian <keyword id="138116" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="toy-industry" source="Orion">toy industry</keyword> in the fiscal year 2022-23. The study indicates a notable decline of 52 per cent in toy imports and an impressive surge of 239 per cent in toy exports compared to the fiscal year 2014-15. The report credits the government's dedicated efforts in the past six years for creating a more favourable manufacturing ecosystem for the Indian toy industry. During this period, the number of manufacturing units doubled, reducing dependence on imported inputs from 33 per cent to 12 per cent. Furthermore, gross sales value witnessed a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 10 per cent, accompanied by an overall increase in labour productivity. The findings highlight India's emergence as a prominent player in the global toy value chain, evident in the country's integration into the global toy value chain and zero-duty market access for domestically manufactured <keyword id="25284" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="toys" source="Orion">toys</keyword> in nations like the UAE and Australia. The report positions India as a viable alternative to established toy hubs like China and Vietnam. To solidify its position in the global market, the report emphasizes the need for consistent collaborative efforts between the toy industry and the government. Key areas identified include technological advancements, e-commerce integration, partnerships and exports, brand-building investments, engagement with educators and parents for effective communication with children, valuing cultural diversity, and collaboration with regional artisans. The Indian government has implemented various interventions and initiatives to foster growth in the toy industry. Walmart has set a target of USD 10 billion for overall imports from India, including Indian toys. Indian toy industry witnesses 239% increase in exports: IIM Lucknow report

Consulting firms were the top recruiters in the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta final placement for the 58th batch of the two-year MBA programme followed by <keyword id="25455" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="finance" source="Orion">finance</keyword>, sales and marketing companies, a statement issued by the institute said. The final placement drive which concluded on February 24, secured 573 offers for the entire 58th batch. The process was conducted in a hybrid mode, it said. The consulting sector recruited the highest (232 offers), followed by the Finance sector (86 offers), and the two sectors accounted for 55.5 per cent of the total hires, the statement said. Leading consulting firms like Accenture Strategy, Bain &amp; Co, Boston Consulting Group, Kearney and McKinsey &amp; Co, were the top recruiters in the consulting sector. Sales &amp; Marketing (52 offers) and General Management (82 offers) combined accounted for 23.4 per cent of total hires, with companies like Aditya Birla Group, <keyword id="462960" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="tata-administrative-services" source="Orion">Tata Administrative Services</keyword>, Vedanta, etc, being amongst the top recruiters in this sector. Top software services and E-commerce brands continued their strong showing accounting for nearly 18.2 per cent of hires. This is the first time the institute has secured 100 per cent placement for a batch this big in its 38-year history. According to a press release issued by IIM-L, the highest package offered during the drive was ₹ 3.5 lakh per month. The average and median stipends offered to students were ₹1.41 lakh per month and ₹ 1.5 lakh per month, respectively. This is also the highest-ever in IIM-L's history, added the communique. IIM-L scores 100% placement

Global consulting firm <keyword id="50041" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="kpmg" source="Orion">KPMG</keyword> is laying off 2 per cent of its workforce that will impact about 700 employees in the US, owing to a "sharp slowdown in its consulting business". According to The <keyword id="35662" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="financial-times" source="Orion">Financial Times</keyword>, KPMG has become the first of the Big Four accountancy firms to reduce jobs amid global macroeconomic conditions. The job cuts, according to <keyword id="16550471" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="carl-carande" source="Orion">Carl Carande</keyword>, vice-chair of KPMG's US advisory business, were needed to "better align our workforce with current and anticipated demand in the market". According to the report, like the other Big Four firms (EY, Deloitte, and PwC), KPMG has also been struggling with the collapse in merger and acquisition activity, which has hit its deal advisory business. "We continue to have more people than needed to meet current demand," Carande wrote in an internal memo. "The reductions are spread across the US and across the consulting business, but do not include any partners," said the report. The Big Four financial accounting firms went on a hiring spree in the wake of the pandemic, as demand for IT consulting and deal advisory work had surged. Last month, global investment firm <keyword id="6361649" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="goldman-sachs" source="Orion">Goldman Sachs</keyword> fired more than 3,000 employees in disguise of business meetings as early as 7.30 a.m. and the meetings with senior managers were put on Google calendar under "false pretenses", according to media reports. Almost 50 per cent of online platform workers find their jobs through traditional referral networks despite 80 per cent having internet access, according to the report by CIIE.CO, a startup platform built at <keyword id="19483" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="iim-ahmedabad" source="Orion">IIM Ahmedabad</keyword>. The report was prepared after a survey of 4,070 platform-based gig workers between the high earning knowledge workers and daily-wage agricultural workers. Of the 400 women surveyed, 60 per cent provided services related to being house helps and earned relatively low. Nearly 78 per cent held less than two different jobs since 2015, while 46.5 per cent of the individuals held their jobs longer than 24 months, the findings showed. "Over 32.4 per cent of respondents still function on cash. This is in spite of the vast majority of them being literate and having access to the internet," the report noted. The report suggested that for financial inclusion to truly occur at scale in India, there is a need for technology to bring down costs of servicing end-users to a fraction of what it is today, need for distribution models to be drastically changed to optimise for the last mile, and the unit economics to be more inclusive. "In many ways, gig workers are channels through which the old and new India interact. Enabling gig workers to own and use their employment, financial, health etc. data will improve their well-being and unlock the growth of both traditional and new economies," said <keyword id="309812" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="supriya-sharma" source="Orion">Supriya Sharma</keyword>, Partner-Insights, CIIE.CO. Being powered by declining internet and hardware costs, technology-based platforms are becoming a lifeline for employment at a time when traditional sectors dwindle in size and reach. "Of the 4,070 individuals, over 2,000 respondents were 30 years of age or younger. This stands testament to the trend of young India finding the gig economy and its platforms as preferable sources of work opportunities and income generation," said the report. Empowering the gig worker with owning and using his or her own data, would improve their wellbeing, including job prospects and financial health, it added. At the time Balakrishnan’s episode was shot, his company was on the verge of a shutdown. He said <a href="https://www.sonyliv.com/shows/shark-tank-india-1700000741/investing-in-the-future-of-india-1000203475?watch=true">on the show </a>that he personally invested ₹35 lakh to keep the business afloat, in the last two months. His co-founder Utkarsh Biradar, who helped design the shoes, too invested the same amount. Biradar exited the startup in 2022 but still holds 30% equity. In spite of his mounting troubles, Balakrishnan rejected the only deal he received on the show. Sharks Peyush Bansal (co-founder, Lenskart) and <keyword id="246967" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="vineeta-singh" source="Orion">Vineeta Singh</keyword> (co-founder, Sugar Cosmetics), offered ₹75 lakh for 33.3% equity in the company. The offer values the company at ₹2.25 crore. Balakrishnan had asked for a valuation of ₹25 crore as its company generated sales to the tune of ₹3.4 crore in FY22. The company had raised ₹5.2 crore in April 2021, at a pre-money valuation of ₹28 crore, from angel investors. And it happened to us,” said Balakrishnan on the show.
