Kozhikode, Mar 15 (): In the wake of the coronavirusscare, the Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode (IIM-K)has indefinitely postponed its annual convocation, which wasto be held on April 4.The two-day ceremony was to begin from April 3 with apre-convocation cultural night for students, their familiesand the IIMK community, followed by the Main ceremony, on thefollowing day, an IIM-K press release said.Prof. Debashis Chatterjee, Director, IIM Kozhikode, said"Considering that the World Health Organisation has recentlydeclared COVID-19 as a pandemic and the advisories issued bythe Health Ministries of Union of India and Government ofKerala advocate avoiding public gatherings, we have taken thedecision to postpone Convocation 2020 scheduled for April 3and 4 indefinitely.At a time when the world is combating an unprecedentedchallenge of this magnitude, we at IIMK will stand by theguidelines issued by the governing bodies in nationalinterest.As dutiful citizens, we are vigilant towards thedeveloping situation and have also geared up internally totake on the challenge.We will be announcing the new dates for the convocationto the students in due course of time," Chatterjee said.A total of 663 students from various programmes of IIMKwere expected to be awarded degrees at the 22nd AnnualConvocation Programme. IIM-K postpones convocation in wake of coronavirus scare

"Alumni response has been overwhelming,” <keyword id="4796652" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="ajit-k-motwani">Ajit K Motwani</keyword>, head of the development office at IIM-A told ET. <ul><li>Despite slowdown, top management schools have managed to beat the average salary packages in India — extending as high as ₹2.3 million as the starting pay for domestic offers. </li><li>This placement season, several management institutions — including <keyword id="63618" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-Institute-of-Management">Indian Institute of Management</keyword> (IIM) Lucknow, Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Kozhikode, Management Development Institute (MDI) — clocked 100% placements within the first week. </li><li>The highest salary bagged on international offers at <keyword id="56716" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="IIM-Lucknow">IIM Lucknow</keyword> was ₹5.8 million while the highest recorded domestic salary was ₹5.4 million. </li><li>At Management Development Institute (MDI) Gurgaon, Amazon offered the highest package at ₹4 million.</li></ul>Despite slowdown, top management schools have managed to beat the average salary packages in India. Over 140 companies visited the offering an average salary package of ₹2.4 million. The highest salary bagged on international offers at IIM Lucknow was ₹5.8 million while the highest recorded domestic salary was at ₹5.4 million. International job offers came from the USA, Dubai, Africa, Qatar and Africa. Average salaries went up by 22% at IIM-K IIM Kozhikode, on the other hand, placed over 400 students, witnessing a 22% increase in the average salaries as compared to last year. The average salary for the batch was ₹2.3 million — which <a href="https://indiaeducationdiary.in/iim-kozhikode-registers-100-final-placement-for-largest-batch-ever-closes-process-in-5-days/" data-type="tilCustomLink">went up to ₹2.7 million for the top performing students.</a> “Despite the negative sentiment of the job market, green energy, and e-commerce sectors along with emerging startups — including education technology startups — have hired this year along with the other traditional firms. IIMK has seen a 200% surge in offers from start-ups along with more than 150% increase in the roles from e-commerce firms securing 12.5% of the total offers from these sectors,” said professor Shovan Chowdhury, chairperson of <keyword id="8671808" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="placements-at-iim">placements at IIM</keyword> Kozhikode. At MDI, Gurgaon, Amazon offered the highest package at ₹4 million. And the average compensation too increased by 9.5% at ₹ 2.2 million. More than half of the offers (57%) were from companies in the consulting, BFSI (Banking, Insurance and Financial Services), technology and telecom. This includes 63 offers from PwC, Deloitte, ICICI Bank, IDFC Bank and Airtel. Automotive, logistics and pharmaceuticals accounted for almost 15% of the offers, Kanwal Kapil, Dean of Placements at MDI, Gurgaon told Business Insider. Average MBA graduate salary grew multifold in the last two years According to a Campus Salary Hiring and Employment 2018 report by Mettl, the average salary for MBA graduates was recorded as ₹930,000 per annum — which has grown multifold in the last two years. While consulting firms are known to pay the highest to the fresh graduates, e-commerce companies like Amazon, Flipkart and Myntra emerged as the top recruiters this year. Flipkart made nine offers while Amazon rolled out 13 offers at IIM Lucknow. Indian B-schools are beating the slowdown with average salary offers at ₹2.5 million

 The scheme will provide 500 more scholarships to the wards of those martyred in naxal or terror attacks. In its latest push to create education and employment in the naxal affected areas, the Modi government expanded the scholarship programme. The scholarship amount was revised by from ₹2,250 to ₹3,000 per month for girls; and ₹2,000 to ₹2,500 for boys. The government is also planning to set up elite institutes including Indian Institute of Technology (IITs), Indian Institute of Management (IIMs), All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMs) in the newly formed union territory. The government had already launched IIM Jammu campus in 2016. This IIM alumni wants to coach students of war-hit Kargil crack CAT exam

In a slew of new appointments, mining giant <keyword id="71792" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="NMDC">NMDC</keyword> has appointed <keyword id="2648048" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Pradip-Kumar-Satpathy">Pradip Kumar Satpathy</keyword> as the Director of its Production vertical on December 13, 2014. Satpathy has previously served as the general manager at the company’s <keyword id="1607767" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="BiOM">BIOM</keyword>, Kirandul Complex in Chhatisgarh. 
	 
	“He has varied experience of 31 years in the field of iron ore and copper mining. He has attended various National and International seminars and presented paper in Fragblast - International Seminar in 2012 and also attended Management Development Programmes in IIM, Ahmedabad and IIM, Kolkata,” said the company in a statement. 
	 
	Prior to joining NMDC, he held key positions at Hindustan Copper Limited in Malanjkhand Copper Project. Earlier last month, NMDC had appointed Dr T R K Rao as the Director of its Commercial division on November 17, 2014.

 Among the other people nominated for the post are <keyword id="45123" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="HDFC">HDFC</keyword> Chairman <keyword id="6448020" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Deepak-Parekh">Deepak Parekh</keyword> and <keyword id="6354512" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Infosys">Infosys</keyword> Chairman <keyword id="484178" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="R-Seshasayee">R Seshasayee</keyword> as well. The names have been forwarded to the ministry for approval, a top official told the <keyword id="6474066" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="economic-times">Economic Times</keyword>. 
 In January this year, L&amp;T Chairman AM <keyword id="50744" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Naik">Naik</keyword> who was earlier holding this post had stepped down.  When we look at undergraduate programmes and compare US with India, there is a stark difference in teaching methodology, practical approach, brain storming, etc. Even though India is now stressing on <keyword id="94495" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="20" keywordseo="Innovation">innovation</keyword> at college level and bringing out several initiatives, it will take a long time to reach the point where a Harvard of Stanford sits.

Dingman Chair in Strategy and Entrepreneurship, University of Maryland, had once stated institutions like MIT and Stanford, the technology power houses of the US, the undergraduate students that are coming out really don’t do any <keyword id="15509" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Research">research</keyword>. There could be a rare example of an undergraduate student who does any research. They are there to take classes and do projects; they are not there to do fundamental projects. 
 It is when you look at the graduate programs, PHD programmes and faculty research, that’s where there is a big difference between what happens at MIT, Stanford, Princeton, and Harvard versus what happens at <keyword id="6354859" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="IIt">IIT</keyword>s and IIMs. As a research institution, IIT still has a long way to go.

For the 2019-20 placement season, the average salary package at LSR and SRCC went up from ₹7.5 lakh to ₹10 lakh per annum. The highest offered bagged by these freshers stood at over ₹30 Lakh. As many as 130 students received job offers at SRCC. “We haven't seen an overall impact of the slowdown in placements. The number of companies coming has more or less remained the same since last year, however the number of students that were made an offer to have increased,” Kanika K Ahuja, placement in-charge at LSR told ET. The students who get admission to these Delhi University-affiliated colleges have to score over 95% in the 12th grade — due to high cut-offs. Among the top recruiters were Gartner, EY, PwC, Deloitte, KPMG, Samsung and Accenture. This includes first-time recruiters as well. <a href="https://www.dupost.co.in/du-blog/2020/du-delhi-university-placement-2019-highest-average-salary-package/">According to the Central Placement Cell (CPC)</a> of DU, Stephen’s college bagged the highest offer at ₹19 lpa from the Boston Consulting Group. On the other hand, <keyword id="311892" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Shaheed-Sukhdev-College-of-Business-Studies">Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies</keyword> (SCBS), which is ranked as the second best undergraduate b-school in India, bagged 106 offers at an average compensation of over ₹7 lakh. The highest offer stood at ₹18 lakh per annum. The average compensation at other DU colleges fluctuated between ₹6 lakh to ₹10 lakh per annum. While the overall average salaries in India went up by 45% for undergraduate students. This is despite the economic downturn in the country. The growing trend of summer placements The growing trend of summer placements and pre-placement offers too might have had an effect on the increased interest of recruiters. Companies like Deutsche Bank, Citi Bank are also banking on summer placements to assess talent, thereby extending pre-placement offers. At SCBS, Goldman Sachs visited the campus to hire interns for their investment banking division. Students also received PPOs from companies like KPMG, RocSearch and Grofers. Kolkata, Mar 2 () Tea Board deputy chairman Arun KrRay on Monday said functioning of auction systems across thecountry at six centres is self-sustaining and the cheapestamong other e-commerce platforms.Ray's comments came in the light of Tea Board chairmanP K Bezbaruah recent comments that it is time for thestatutory body to disassociate itself from the functioning ofthe auction system and just remain a licence provider.Bezbaruah had also suggested that the running of thesystem should be in the hands of financially capable privateparties and not Tea Board."We charge a total of six paise per kilo from thesellers, traders and buyers for running the auctioningplatform. At this price point, it is the cheapest platformand also self-sustaining in nature", Ray told .He said, "There is no cost to Tea Board and thesellers are coming voluntarily".The software for the auction platform has beendeveloped by NSE.IT. "We have moved the auction platform tothe cloud," he added.Ray said, "If the Tea Board withdraws from theauctioning system, then no private player will be able to runthis kind of platform at this price point, that too based oncloud technology, and the entire system will collapse".IIM (Bangalore) had been roped in to make the auctionplatform more robust and user friendly, he said.Around 47 per cent to 48 per cent of the tea producedin the country comes to the auctions at six centres inKolkata, Guwahati, Siliguri, Coimbatore, Coonoor and Kochi."The basis of the rationale of the auction system isto provide an avenue for sale of the produced teas. The centre said that it will hire as many as 1,300 engineers for the valley’s first metro project, in a move that will boost infrastructure as well as employment. The project will hire across domains like architecture, telecommunications, traffic management, signal electronics and civil engineering, TOI<a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/srinagar-metro-to-absorb-1300-engineers-others/articleshow/70579874.cms"> reported</a>. This is good news for the heavily qualified yet unemployed youth in the state. According to the Directorate of Employment, around 150,000 postgraduates and doctorates in Jammu &amp; Kashmir are jobless. Cheaper metro fares The 25 km long metro will connect Indira Nagar to HMT Junction and Hamzuri Bagh to Osmanabad through Srinagar. The fares of this metro will also be cheaper at 1.5 times that of a bus — unlike other metros across the country. The metro project is expected to cost ₹5,108 crore — and nearly 21% of it will be funded by the centre. The Jammu and Kashmir government will also infuse equal amount into the project. Once operational, the government is expecting a return of investment of ₹146 crore from the project, in the first five years. “Revenue for the <keyword id="7960419" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Srinagar-Metro">Srinagar Metro</keyword> will mainly consist of farebox collection and non-fare box sources such as parking, taxes, advertisements, and property development,” TOI reported citing the Detailed Project Report (DPR) of Srinagar. In July, <keyword id="2773123" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Satya-Pal-Malik">Satya Pal Malik</keyword>, the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir government announced the ‘Light Rail Transit Systems’ for Jammu and Srinagar. <a href="https://www.greaterkashmir.com/news/kashmir/light-rail-transit-systems-for-srinagar-jammu-to-be-completed-in-four-to-five-years-govt/">Rail Indian Technical and Economic Services</a> (RITES) will take over the project. Who runs BrizzTV: Three co-founders – <keyword id="1938993" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Amarendra-Sahu">Amarendra Sahu</keyword>, <keyword id="1938986" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Jitendra-Jagadev">Jitendra Jagadev</keyword> and <keyword id="1938995" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Krishnan-Varadarajan">Krishnan Varadarajan</keyword> – who call it a <keyword id="1938996" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="college-dorm-start-up">college dorm start-up</keyword> because it was incubated at a set-up run by <keyword id="60501" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="IIM-Bangalore">IIM Bangalore</keyword>. An alumnus of NIT Karnataka and IIM-B, Amarendra has specialised in Computer Science and worked with Alcatel-Lucent, Juniper <keyword id="50752" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Networks">Networks</keyword>, Cisco and Avendus Advisors for 5 years. Jitendra was Amarendra’s batchmate at NIT-K and worked with Philips and Cisco for a span of 7 years. Krishnan is Amarendra’s friend and holds a BE in Computer Science from <keyword id="6361013" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Madras-University">Madras University</keyword>. Earlier, he had worked with Philips and another start-up called Prysm Inc. 
 
What inspired the venture: The zeal to spread the digital revolution. Both Amarendra and Jitendra come from Orissa. But nothing seems to have changed in that state over the past 10 years in spite of the digital revolution around the globe. “Internet could be empowering but only when it reaches people in a way they can use and benefit from it,” observes Amarendra. “But we saw three main obstacles to mass Internet adoption – affordability, accessibility and ease of use. Hence we thought of provisioning some digital content on TV, so that millions of homes can access it on their existing <keyword id="388204" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="television-sets">television sets</keyword> without spending a single penny and without learning how to use a PC. As long as you know how to operate a <keyword id="722747" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="TV-remote">TV remote</keyword>, you are good to go,” he adds. 
 
What’s the pitch: BrizzTV is a ‘first screen’ company that has pioneered next-generation TV viewing. It puts all relevant social buzz alongside the TV programmes on the same screen – so that you won’t require any other <keyword id="1939016" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Companion-device">companion device</keyword>. 
 
How it works: The digi-media technology firm is catering to the B2C segment upfront and it’s just click-and-go for everyday users. However, the real business lies in exploring the B2B segment. For Twitter on TV, the company only needs to tie up with <keyword id="454021" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="dth-service-providers">DTH service providers</keyword> and it will reach their customers in no time. “We don’t require broadcast partners since the service is user-invoked,” explains Amarendra. 
 
Once the tie-up is in place and BrizzTV installs its system, it works in three steps. The firm curates interesting tweets about TV programmes from the Web (based on majority algorithm). Then these tweets are made broadcast-able in a TV network. On the TV side, it overlays these tweets received via broadcast with the TV programmes on viewer opt-in (you can do that by pressing the green button on your remote). 
 Since tweets are converted to broadcast-able format, <keyword id="756327" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="TV-sets">TV sets</keyword> or set-top boxes need not be connected to the Internet for receiving the tweets. “That’s how we are available on all 8.5 million set-top boxes that <keyword id="15491" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Airtel">Airtel</keyword> has in India,” clarifies Amarendra. 
 The market size for Twitter on TV will be the entire country, according to the founders. The start-up is also targeting a chunk of the print ad pie in India, estimated at over $4 billion, by bringing display ads directly to TV via digital platforms. In a way, that’s creating a new market – <keyword id="1939000" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Digital-ads-on-TV">digital ads on TV</keyword>. The firm has already tied up with <keyword id="279704" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Airtel-DTH">Airtel DTH</keyword> for all its products in a bid to reach millions of homes across India. 
 
Claim to fame: BrizzTV claims to be the first company to bring contextual tweets directly to a broadcast TV network and that too, in real time. It is also the first company to introduce permission advertising/freemium advertising for pay TV. But the founders believe that the real claim to fame lies in throwing open a market that would get bigger every day. “Imagine our reach with Twitter on TV – 8.5 million homes (over 30 million individuals assuming 4 per family) with just one <keyword id="1840316" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="DTH-operator">DTH operator</keyword>. And it’s on six premium channels for at least 2 hours every day. That kind of reach isn’t available even at large destination websites in India. Our reach and time with users are an unparalleled opportunity,” says Amarendra. 
 
Show me the money: Currently, its revenue model is a mix of <keyword id="1939012" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Product-subscription">product subscription</keyword> (for iExam) and advertisement earnings from Twitter on TV and Freemium Movies. BrizzTV is yet to sell ads on Twitter on TV but for Freemium Movies, it has on-boarded some big clients such as ITC, Nestle and Maruti. However, the company has not reached break-even yet and continues to burn cash on R&amp;D and technology development. 
 The start-up raised an undisclosed amount in Series A from <keyword id="226299" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Ojas-Venture-Partners">Ojas Venture Partners</keyword> back in 2011. Prior to that, it had raised a debt grant of Rs 25 lakh from <keyword id="1939005" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Nadathur-S-Raghavan-Center">Nadathur S. Raghavan Center</keyword> for Entrepreneurial Learning or <keyword id="226294" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="NSRCEL">NSRCEL</keyword> (a joint set-up of IIM Bangalore and the <keyword id="6623307" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Department-of-Information-Technology">Department of Information Technology</keyword>) where it was incubated. 
 
Biggest challenge: Striking new partnerships with TV service providers. “Until we are able to do that, <keyword id="6354632" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Social-media">social media</keyword> can’t invade every home or occupy the first screen,” feels Amarendra. According to him, BrizzTV’s key competitors will be middleware companies like Cisco, Nagravision and Irdeto. The start-up also anticipates competition from destination websites and smart TV/device players as they try to grab the attention of TV viewers.
