Consulting firms were the top recruiters in the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta final placement for the 58th batch of the two-year MBA programme followed by <keyword id="25455" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="finance" source="Orion">finance</keyword>, sales and marketing companies, a statement issued by the institute said. The final placement drive which concluded on February 24, secured 573 offers for the entire 58th batch. The process was conducted in a hybrid mode, it said. The consulting sector recruited the highest (232 offers), followed by the Finance sector (86 offers), and the two sectors accounted for 55.5 per cent of the total hires, the statement said. Leading consulting firms like Accenture Strategy, Bain &amp; Co, Boston Consulting Group, Kearney and McKinsey &amp; Co, were the top recruiters in the consulting sector. Sales &amp; Marketing (52 offers) and General Management (82 offers) combined accounted for 23.4 per cent of total hires, with companies like Aditya Birla Group, <keyword id="462960" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="tata-administrative-services" source="Orion">Tata Administrative Services</keyword>, Vedanta, etc, being amongst the top recruiters in this sector. Top software services and E-commerce brands continued their strong showing accounting for nearly 18.2 per cent of hires. IIM Calcutta students receive over ₹1 lakh monthly stipend for analytics internships

Keeping in mind the safety of the candidates, staff and faculty members in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, all admission interviews were conducted online, an IIM-C statement said. "As it was not feasible to conduct written ability test with fairness through the online admission process, the institute decided not to consider the weightage given for WAT for the final selection of MBA 2020-22 batch," it said. <keyword id="9677501" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="prof-peeyush-mehta">Prof Peeyush Mehta</keyword>, Operations Management Group, said the institute is creating technology solutions for MBA students to "mimic" the <keyword id="9677502" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="classroom-experience">classroom experience</keyword> to the extent possible in online mode. IIM Calcutta to begin online classes for fresh MBA batch from August 10

The MoUs will initiate a Student Exchange Programme (STEP) which will focus on boosting teaching, research, and cultural understanding. “STEP is an integral part of <keyword id="78512" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="IIM-Calcutta">IIM Calcutta</keyword>’s internationalization efforts. It is aimed at providing IIM Calcutta students an opportunity to have learning experience from international environment,” Professor Prashant Mishra, Dean, New Initiatives and External Relations said. The five-year long agreement with Carleton University will foster research, collaboration, executive training and capacity building with scholarship programmes. “It is the intent of Indian Institute of Management Calcutta to establish precise academic and financial arrangements, and to support, as appropriate, the exchange of personnel between Indian Institute of Management Calcutta and Carleton University,” the university noted. The association between Montpellier Business School and Indian Institute of Management Calcutta will cater to postgraduate and doctoral students, along with teachers and research aspirants. IIM Bangalore bagged the top position among Indian colleges at 27th spot, crawling up six places. While IIM Calcutta stood at 42th spot in the overall ranking compared to last year’s 49th rank. IIM Ahmedabad and ISB stood at 61st and 28th spot, respectively. “For the third consecutive year we have improved our ranking in the Financial Times Global MBA Ranking significantly. This is a testament to the continual improvement in MBAEx we have always aimed to achieve over the years,” said professor Amit Dhiman, Chairperson-MBAEx at IIM Calcutta. The top three positions featured Harvard Business School, University of Pennsylvania and Stanford Graduate School of Business. The rankings were based on the parameters including salaries, employment opportunities, research capabilities, career progress and female participation rate. Of this, IIM Calcutta did well on categories like value for money, career progress, female student percentage, inclusion of international board members and number of female faculty as part of the Programme. While IIM Bangalore achieved 100% in the "employed in three months” category.

"Alumni response has been overwhelming,” <keyword id="4796652" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="ajit-k-motwani">Ajit K Motwani</keyword>, head of the development office at IIM-A told ET. What helped was director <keyword id="1588161" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ashish-Nanda">Ashish Nanda</keyword>'s Harvard background, which helped foster the culture of alumni giving. The largest individual contribution was Rs 11 crore by an anonymous IIM-A graduate to support heritage campus infrastructure and entrepreneurship scholarships, reports ET. . "IIM-B has now entered a phase of high growth. The second campus is coming up in Jigani in <keyword id="6354321" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bengaluru">Bengaluru</keyword>. In this growth and expansion, alumni and corporate funding will play a significant role,” VK Menon, chief marketing and development officer at IIM-Bangalore told ET. "Alumni have volunteered funds toward construction of a swimming pool, introducing IIM Calcutta Case Research Centre, instituting scholarships and awards and commissioning the proposed sports complex”, <keyword id="4796653" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="uttam-kumar-sarkar">Uttam Kumar Sarkar</keyword>, dean of new initiatives and external relations at <keyword id="87135" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="IIM-Calcutta">IIM-Calcutta</keyword> told the financial daily.

 IIM-C director <keyword id="3767605" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="saibal-chatterjee">Saibal Chatterjee</keyword> said that the Innovation Park, which started two years ago, has provided seed capital to six start-ups and is ready to go for a second series of funding. 
 
Ashok Banerjee of IIM-C said that the start-ups would get access to the IIM alumni network for mentoring purposes, adding that they would be reaching out to the districts for hunting talent. 
 
The INVENT program is funded mutually by the DST and the Department for International Development (DFID) which is aimed at promoting social enterprise in the low-income states. 
 
The verticals in the social enterprise domain are healthcare, education for masses, technological innovation, agriculture, water and sanitation. 
 
These startups under the INVENT program would be revenue driven enterprises which would get initial seed funding from DST and DFID.
