New Delhi [India], January 5 (ANI): A recent case study conducted by the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Lucknow, commissioned by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), unveils a success story for the Indian <keyword id="138116" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="toy-industry" source="Orion">toy industry</keyword> in the fiscal year 2022-23. The study indicates a notable decline of 52 per cent in toy imports and an impressive surge of 239 per cent in toy exports compared to the fiscal year 2014-15. The report credits the government's dedicated efforts in the past six years for creating a more favourable manufacturing ecosystem for the Indian toy industry. During this period, the number of manufacturing units doubled, reducing dependence on imported inputs from 33 per cent to 12 per cent. Furthermore, gross sales value witnessed a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 10 per cent, accompanied by an overall increase in labour productivity. The findings highlight India's emergence as a prominent player in the global toy value chain, evident in the country's integration into the global toy value chain and zero-duty market access for domestically manufactured <keyword id="25284" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="toys" source="Orion">toys</keyword> in nations like the UAE and Australia. The report positions India as a viable alternative to established toy hubs like China and Vietnam. To solidify its position in the global market, the report emphasizes the need for consistent collaborative efforts between the toy industry and the government. Key areas identified include technological advancements, e-commerce integration, partnerships and exports, brand-building investments, engagement with educators and parents for effective communication with children, valuing cultural diversity, and collaboration with regional artisans. The Indian government has implemented various interventions and initiatives to foster growth in the toy industry. These include the formulation of a comprehensive National Action Plan for Toys (NAPT) with 21 specific action points, increases in Basic Customs Duty (BCD) on toys, sample testing of each import consignment by the <keyword id="19992660" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="directorate-general-of-foreign-trade" source="keywords">Directorate General of Foreign Trade</keyword> (DGFT) to curb sub-standard imports, issuance of a Quality Control Order (QCO) for toys in 2020, and support through cluster-based approaches. The report indicates significant interest from global retail giant Walmart to import toys from India and sell them worldwide. Walmart has set a target of USD 10 billion for overall imports from India, including Indian toys. With the concerted efforts of the government and domestic manufacturers, the Indian toy industry is projected to witness substantial growth in the next five years. DPIIT Secretary mentions that the global toys industry stands at around USD 300 billion, whereas India holds around USD 1.5 billion. Consulting firms were the top recruiters in the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta final placement for the 58th batch of the two-year MBA programme followed by <keyword id="25455" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="finance" source="Orion">finance</keyword>, sales and marketing companies, a statement issued by the institute said. The final placement drive which concluded on February 24, secured 573 offers for the entire 58th batch. The process was conducted in a hybrid mode, it said. The consulting sector recruited the highest (232 offers), followed by the Finance sector (86 offers), and the two sectors accounted for 55.5 per cent of the total hires, the statement said. Leading consulting firms like Accenture Strategy, Bain &amp; Co, Boston Consulting Group, Kearney and McKinsey &amp; Co, were the top recruiters in the consulting sector. Sales &amp; Marketing (52 offers) and General Management (82 offers) combined accounted for 23.4 per cent of total hires, with companies like Aditya Birla Group, <keyword id="462960" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="tata-administrative-services" source="Orion">Tata Administrative Services</keyword>, Vedanta, etc, being amongst the top recruiters in this sector. Top software services and E-commerce brands continued their strong showing accounting for nearly 18.2 per cent of hires. Consulting firms top recruiters in IIM Calcutta final placement

Global consulting firm <keyword id="50041" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="kpmg" source="Orion">KPMG</keyword> is laying off 2 per cent of its workforce that will impact about 700 employees in the US, owing to a "sharp slowdown in its consulting business". According to The <keyword id="35662" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="financial-times" source="Orion">Financial Times</keyword>, KPMG has become the first of the Big Four accountancy firms to reduce jobs amid global macroeconomic conditions. The job cuts, according to <keyword id="16550471" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="carl-carande" source="Orion">Carl Carande</keyword>, vice-chair of KPMG's US advisory business, were needed to "better align our workforce with current and anticipated demand in the market". According to the report, like the other Big Four firms (EY, Deloitte, and PwC), KPMG has also been struggling with the collapse in merger and acquisition activity, which has hit its deal advisory business. "We continue to have more people than needed to meet current demand," Carande wrote in an internal memo. "The reductions are spread across the US and across the consulting business, but do not include any partners," said the report. The Big Four financial accounting firms went on a hiring spree in the wake of the pandemic, as demand for IT consulting and deal advisory work had surged. Last month, global investment firm <keyword id="6361649" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="goldman-sachs" source="Orion">Goldman Sachs</keyword> fired more than 3,000 employees in disguise of business meetings as early as 7.30 a.m. and the meetings with senior managers were put on Google calendar under "false pretenses", according to media reports. Consulting firm KPMG to lay off about 700 employees in US

<ul><li><keyword id="78512" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="IIM-Calcutta">IIM Calcutta</keyword> on Thursday said it will be digitally conducting the flagship two-year MBA programme for the incoming batch of 2020-2022 from August 10.</li><li>Around 480 students from across the country will be joining the <keyword id="2608699" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="virtual-classes">virtual classes</keyword>. </li><li>Online classes for second-year MBA students will commence from August 3. </li></ul>IIM Calcutta on Thursday said it will be digitally conducting the flagship two-year MBA programme for the incoming batch of 2020-2022 from August 10. Around 480 students from across the country will be joining the virtual classes. Online classes for second-year MBA students will commence from August 3. Keeping in mind the safety of the candidates, staff and faculty members in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, all admission interviews were conducted online, an IIM-C statement said. "As it was not feasible to conduct written ability test with fairness through the online admission process, the institute decided not to consider the weightage given for WAT for the final selection of MBA 2020-22 batch," it said. <keyword id="9677501" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="prof-peeyush-mehta">Prof Peeyush Mehta</keyword>, Operations Management Group, said the institute is creating technology solutions for MBA students to "mimic" the <keyword id="9677502" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="classroom-experience">classroom experience</keyword> to the extent possible in online mode. "To make the learning experience better, the students will be distributed across six sections of class strength, 80 in each section. There would be an average of four-five hours of total classroom live contact hours," he said. The institute will also assist students facing internet issues, including providing recordings of a missed class, opportunity to interact with the instructors after the class and additional tutorials, Mehta said. "Overcoming the challenges posed by the pandemic, we have put a plan in place to ensure an excellent learning experience through online onboarding and instruction for the incoming batch," Director, Prof Anju Seth, said.
