Gangubai Kathiawadi tops technical awards at 23rd IIFA's music-loaded opening

If reports are to be believed, IIFA was a ride full of laughter, and the credit goes to the two actors who made an impressive stage debut, hosting the award ceremony for the first time. 
 
It’s no hidden fact that Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor are mischief personified. We all got a glimpse of this in the infamous AIB Roast that took place last year, where the actors sportingly got roasted by a team of stand-up comedians, leaving the audience in splits. Even though the YouTube video was banned and FIRs were registered against both the actors as well as several others, the actors didn’t budge from talking about the reactions for the roast even at the IIFA night. 
 
The heartthrobs, who first worked together in Gunday, even had no qualms admitting their horrible performances in the film; however, they did so in their own mischievous style in front of the heaving Putra stadium in Kuala Lumpur. 
 
They started out in a serious tone, admitting to an act that offended many people and involved a famous director (hinting at Karan Johar who was present with them on the AIB Roast). However, just when everyone thought that they are serious about the roast, the duo quickly apologized for doing Gunday, which was a major critical failure. 
 
Not only that, they also sang a parody on Aamir Khan, who was very vocal on christening AIB roast as 'violent' rather than 'funny'. The actors sang "Hume maaf karna, O Aamir Khan. Hum kabhi nhi lenge Reema Lagoo and Farida Jalal ka naam." they sang. Actually, they had offended senior actors like Farida Jalal in the infamous roast, which had led to several negative reactions from the industry and Aamir Khan as well. 
 Hinting big time at the alleged romance between Ranveer and actress <keyword id="598" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Deepika-Padukone">Deepika Padukone</keyword>, Arjun didn’t leave a chance to tease his friend as Deepika came on stage to receive her award for the Woman of the Year. 
 
Later, Ranveer Singh went down on his knees in front of Deepika and gave her a red heart-shaped balloon, as Arjun stood in the corner, giving his friend the space that he wanted.

After all, the entire media and entertainment industry revised its growth estimates to 12% from its earlier 13% for the financial year, <a href="http://71166633.cms">said an Economic Times</a> report. In spite of landmark events like Lok Sabha Election and the ICC world cup, the subdued growth is due to uncertainty in the market and lower TV ad spends. "IIFA has always Bollywood in gaining international traction and it is as international as it gets. It isn't a sign of slowdown. 'Gangubai Kathiawadi' was released in theatres on February 25, 2022, while 'Mimi' hit the OTT platforms in July 2021. Helmed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, 'Gangubai Kathiawadi' revolves around a maiden sold by a suitor into prostitution and how she becomes a prominent and celebrated figure in the underworld and Kamathipua red-light district. Alia's stellar performance in the film helped her bag the Best Actress Award at IIFA 2023 and Filmfare Awards 2023. Kriti was honoured with the Best Actress Award for her role in 'Mimi' at IIFA 2022. “Dreams do come true! All you need to do is keep working hard towards it and never lose faith! 'Mimi' tells the story of a young woman named Mimi (Kriti) who agrees to become a surrogate mother for a foreign couple, hoping to use the money to fulfil her dream of becoming an actress. However, the biological parents back out when they learn that the child will be born with Down syndrome. Mimi then decides to raise the child on her own and faces several challenges and societal pressures as a single mother. Her journey as a mother and her struggle to provide for her child despite the odds is both heartwarming and inspiring. The logo for the 2018 World Cup, which is to be held in Russia, has been revealed, and that too from the outer space. The logo was unveiled from the International Space Station by Elena Serova, Alexander Sovokutyaev and Maxim Suraevers. The cosmonauts gave a quick countdown with numbers written on paper flowing in gravity, before they revealed the logo on a piece of paper. 
 
 On the planet earth, the emblem was launched in Moscow on Tuesday night by IIFA President <keyword id="61032" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sepp-Blatter">Sepp Blatter</keyword> and IIFA Secretary <keyword id="2574724" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Genera-Jerome-Valcke">Genera Jerome Valcke</keyword>. They were accompanied by Italy's 2006 winning captain, Fabio Cannavaro. 
 
After the logo was revealed, it was projected onto the Bolshoi Theater, located in the Russian capital, for the Russian fans to see it. The logo has been said to 'reflect the heart and soul' of Russia as it includes the cultural traditions Russia is known for. 
 
Later, Blatter put his foot down and said that the tournament would not move to Ukraine, in the wake of many protests over Russia hosting the World Cup. "A boycott never achieves anything and does not have a positive effect. FIFA is fully supporting the World Cup in Russia," said Blatter. 
 
"Football cannot only unite Russia, but can also show the whole world that it is stronger than any protest movement. In comparison with Brazil’s preparations for the 2014 World Cup, Russia is well ahead of them with four years to go," he added. He also suggested that if Russia and Ukraine relations do not improve, they should be put into different groups in the tournament. 
 
The emblem has been designed by Brandia Central, a brand consulting agency based in Lisbon, Portugal, following a creative pitch that involved eight Russian and International design agencies.

'Brahmastra', 'Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2', 'Darlings' lead in IIFA nominations

Filmmaker <keyword id="19943427" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Aanand-L-Rai" source="keywords">Aanand L Rai</keyword> has revealed that he had approached superstar <keyword id="19901647" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="Salman-Khan" source="keywords">Salman Khan</keyword> for "<keyword id="20376276" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Zero" source="keywords">Zero</keyword>" when the film was in the scripting stage but they both eventually got busy with other projects and the conversation didn't go further. Rai, known for films such as "<keyword id="20216018" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Raanjhanaa" source="keywords">Raanjhanaa</keyword>" and "<keyword id="20905019" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tanu-Weds-Manu" source="keywords">Tanu Weds Manu</keyword>", started working on "Tanu Weds Manu Returns" while Salman got busy with another film. Salman's contemporary and superstar <keyword id="19895142" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Shah-Rukh-Khan" source="keywords">Shah Rukh Khan</keyword> eventually starred in "Zero", which followed the story of a vertically challenged man. "I had met him (Salman), I was working on it (script). At that time I had not finished writing the story. This happened after 'Raanjhanaa'. I had met him just like that and I told him, 'Aisi ek duniya hai (describing the world of 'Zero') ek duniya describe ki thi', and he liked it. "Then I started working on 'Tanu Weds Manu Returns'. The story (of 'Zero') also changed but I couldn't go to him again. The day I have an opportunity, I'll go to him. I really want to work with Salman," the filmmaker told PTI in an interview on the green carpet of the <keyword id="22837524" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="IIFA-Awards-2024" source="keywords">IIFA Awards 2024</keyword> here. The director described Salman as a "great actor and sensitive person". "A sensitive person can switch easily between genres. So, it's up to us (filmmakers) now what kind of story I offer him," he said.
