Students are now worried about how will the board decide the final percentage of marks — something they will depend upon for college applications and more. According to CBSE’s affidavit, those students who have completed all their exams will be marked based on their scores in those subjects. It will be the average marks scored in those subjects. “For students who have appeared in exams for more than three subjects, the average of the marks obtained in the best three performing subjects will be awarded in the subjects whose examinations have not been conducted,” the CBSE circular <a href="https://twitter.com/barandbench/status/1276381053834461185?s=20">said</a>. Similarly, if the students have appeared for only three subjects, the average marks of the best two subjects will be the marks allotted to the remaining subjects. For instance, if you scored 90 marks in english, 70 in mathematics and 85 in biology, then the marks awarded to the remaining subjects (whose examinations have not been conducted) will be 87.5 — that is the average of the marks obtained in english and biology. Here's how the marks for CBSE class 10 and 12 students will be calculated

This was after the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) told the bench led by Justice J AM Khanwilkar to <a href="https://www.timesnownews.com/education/article/sc-decision-on-cbse-cancelled-cbse-not-to-conduct-remaining-12th-10th-exams-in-july/611798">cancel the exams due to the coronavirus pandemic</a>. The board has already scrapped class 10th and 12th exams across nearly 250 schools abroad. Those students will be awarded marks based on the practical examinations or internal assessment. Meanwhile, the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) also said that it will follow CBSE’s decision on the final exams and result. The marks will be awarded on the basis of internal assessment, it said. The decision was long pending after the parents requested the apex court to consider scrapping the remaining exams and promote students based on internal assessment and the marks obtained in the exams that have already been conducted. Moreover, state governments including Maharashtra, Odisha and Delhi had requested the government to do away with the pending exams. The Union Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal held a review meeting with the National Testing Agency (NTA), School Education and Literacy department and CBSE to plan and discuss the examination schedule and reopening of schools on June 8. The exams scheduled between March 19 to 31 were deferred for both classes due to the lockdown and violence in Northeast Delhi. It was decided that the CBSE exams will be held from July 1-15. This may also lead to further deferment of the entrance examinations including JEE Mains and NEET. The government may postpone the two competitive exams after multiple requests from students, teachers and parents. As per the current schedule rolled out by the Ministry of Human Resource and Development (MHRD), the JEE Mains exam is scheduled between July 19 and July 23, while NEET entrance will be held on July 26, 2020. On the other hand, CBSE board has already directed schools to promote all the students — from class 1 to 9 and 11 — without examinations.

CBSE to declare class 10 board exam results on July 15

The results of the ICSE and ISC exams were announced on Tuesday by the Council for the Indian School Examination. In a first, two students have scored cent percent marks in ISC examination. In the ISC (class 12th) exam, Dewang Kumar Agarwal from Kolkata and Bengaluru's Vibha Swaminathan have been the <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/home/education/news/icse-isc-board-result-2019-to-be-declared-shortly-cisce-org-live-updates/articleshow/69214536.cms">top performers</a>, scoring 100% marks. While Juhi Rupesh Kajaria from Mumbai and Manhar Bansal from Muktasar have topped ICSE(class10th) exam scoring 99.60%, TOI reported. The overall pass percentage for ISC stands at 96.52%, 0.31% up from last year. While the pass percentage for ICSE (class 10th) is 98.54%. Girls outshine boys yet again, said Gerry Arathoon, Chief Executive, CISCE. Pass percentage for girls in the ISC exam was 97.83% while it was 95.4% for boys.

"No issue. You take the decision. You are entitled to it. If you are departing from the policy of last year, then you must give tangible reasons for it," the bench told Venugopal. The bench emphasized that the policy which was adopted previous year can be adopted this year too and reiterated that if Centre is departing from the notification issued earlier then it should have good tangible reason. The AG replied that a meeting has been called to take a decision on the issue. The bench responded, "Take whatever decision that's appropriate but what has been expressed by the petitioner is that last year's policy should be followed." The bench further queried the AG, a notification was issued last year, why can it not be continued this year? After a brief hearing in the matter, the top court adjourned the case to Thursday. The petition filed by advocate Mamta Sharma urged the top court to issue directions to the boards to cancel the Class XII examinations, instead devise an objective methodology to declare the result within a specific time-frame. "The Covid-19 situation is more severe in comparison to last year and require the respondents to adopt the same criteria of assessing the grading/marks of class XII students as done in the last year", said the plea. The plea contended that notifications issued by CBSE and ICSE deferring the exams to an unspecified date should be quashed, adding that students cannot be subjected to suffer uncertainty amid unprecedented public health crisis. The plea contended that it is a fit case wherein the top court may exercise its power under Article 142 of the Constitution to direct the respondents to implement the same methodology, which is being adopted for class X to declare the result and cancel the examination for Class XII. Last year, amid the pandemic the top court had asked boards to determine and declare Class 12 exam results on the basis of earlier assessment of students. Government to take decision on Class 12 board exams in two days — Supreme Court suggests using same policy as last year

The Telangana government on Tuesday directed all the schools in the state not to increase <keyword id="6394708" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="school-fee">school fee</keyword> during academic year 2020-21 and charge only tuition fee and that too on monthly basis, in view of the hardships caused by Covid-19 induced lockdown.The government also warned the schools that non-compliance of the instructions will result in cancellation of school recognition. The School Education Department issued a Government Order (GO) in this regard on Tuesday, two days after the state cabinet took a decision in this regard. According to the order, the instructions apply to all private unaided recognized schools in the state which are affiliated to State Board, Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) and other international boards. The schools were directed not to increase any kind of fees and charge only tuition fee on monthly basis till further orders. The department said non-compliance of orders will also lead to revoking the no objection certificate already granted for affiliation to other boards and initiation of appropriate action against the school managements under relevant Acts/Rules.

As many as 1.5 crore students studying in the government-run schools in Uttar Pradesh will not have to appear for final examinations to get promoted to the next class, as per the directives by the Yogi Adityanath-led UP government. This is applicable to all students up to 8th grade. "The students will be promoted on the basis of the performance all year round,” said Deputy Chief Minister Dinesh Sharma, adding that the decision has been made given the school closures in the state.
