He currently heads a boutique strategy-consulting firm, Beyond Visual Range. </li><li><keyword id="6354720" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="ola">Ola</keyword> Electric turned a unicorn in July this year. </li></ul>Ola’s subsidiary Ola Electric brought B V R Subbu on board as a director. Subbu was the former president of Hyundai India and a general manager at Tata Motors earlier in his career. “Subbu has played a key role in building and establishing some of India’s iconic automotive products like the ubiquitous <keyword id="308405" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hyundai-Santro">Hyundai Santro</keyword> and Tata 2213. His deep understanding of the mobility space and consumers will be very valuable to us in our journey to build electric mobility for India and the world,” said Bhavish Aggarwal, Co-founder &amp; CEO, Ola. Subbu has been taking up various roles since he retired from Hyundai in 2006. He was also brought onto the board of Ampere Motors, the electric mobility arm of Greaves Cotton. Currently, Subbu heads a boutique strategy-consulting firm, Beyond Visual Range. “Ola Electric is the perfect amalgam of the passion and social consciousness of youth, an exceptional appreciation and understanding of technology, and a demonstrated ability to successfully build global scale and competitiveness, coming together to attain the national imperative of sustainable mobility,” said Subbu. In July 2019, Ola Electric turned a unicorn after it raised $250 million from Softbank. In May, Ola Electric raised funds from Arun Sarin, former Vodafone Group CEO and the Chairman Emeritus of Tata Group, Ratan Tata. In March, it raised ₹400 crores from Ola’s existing and early investors – Tiger Global and Matrix India. Interestingly, most of the investors in Ola Electric are its parent company’s investors – from Softbank to Arun Sarin, Ratan Tata and even Tiger Global and Matrix India.

<ul><li>A crowd favourite, the <keyword id="308405" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hyundai-Santro">Hyundai Santro</keyword>, is making its comeback in the Indian automobile market today with pre-bookings going live.</li><li>The car will be priced aggressively to take on the likes of the <keyword id="3252269" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tata-Tiago">Tata Tiago</keyword> and the <keyword id="2041216" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Maruti-Suzuki-Celerio">Maruti Suzuki Celerio</keyword>. </li><li>With the booking amount currently ₹111,000, the starting price of the car is expected to be around ₹400,000.</li></ul>After being out of production for three years, Hyundai has <a href="http://www.hyundai.com/in/en/MediaCenter/PressReleases/DF_IN_LOCALNEWSVIEW_20181009.html?selx2=">announced</a> that the Santro is making its comeback today as pre-booking open before its official launch on 23 October. It will have both, an automatic and a manual option, along with different models for petrol and CNG. In fact, the AMT gearbox will be making its debut in <keyword id="3658" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="India">India</keyword> in Santro’s Magna and Sportz variants but unfortunately, won’t be an option if you opt for on any of the Asta or CNG variants. It’s actually going to be a pretty high tech for a budget car with a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system built in featuring Android Auto as well as Apple CarPlay, a reverse camera, defogger and segment-first rear AC vents. Facing its competitors When the Hyundai Santro launched back in 1998, it was able to take on the Tata Indica, Daewoo Matiz and Maruti Suzuki WagonR. But in today’s market, the <keyword id="43820" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hatchback">hatchback</keyword> will be facing off against the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Celerio and the Tata Tiago. While the Tata Tiago is the only car in the segment that offers a diesel option and is the most fuel efficient, the Santro wins out over both in terms of bells-and-whistles. That isn’t all that surprising, since Hyundai is known to offer top of the line features. That being said, it should concern Hyundai that one of Santro’s unique selling points in the past was how compact the car was. If not a little too compact, at times. While the Santro may ‘look’ smaller than its counterparts with respect to its length, but it’s at par, if not in excess, when it comes to width and height. It’s no secret that Hyundai has plans of pricing the car quite aggressively to capitalise on India’s budget consumers, and it’s currently speculated that prices will start at around ₹400,000 with the down payment currently on the site coming to ₹111,000.

Hyundai Santro ready to make a come-back on Indian roads

Hyundai is mulling to bring back its iconic car Santro, which had earned a huge presence in the Indian market and was phased out in the tail end of 2014. 
 
Santro, which was launched in 1998, had become a game changer for Hyundai back then as it had sold 13.6 lakh units in the domestic market and 5.35 lakh units in international market. 
 <keyword id="308405" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hyundai-Santro">Hyundai Santro</keyword> posted around 1.9 million units of lifetime sales in the domestic and export markets in 16 year-run in India. 
 
Now, the Hyundai Motor India is all set it bring back but the project is under tight wraps. 
 ET quoted sources that the <keyword id="3355809" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="new-santro">new Santro</keyword> is under development in South Korea and will come to India in around two years. 
 
Sources told ET the present new Santro project was under tight wraps with vendor sources saying it was "too early to talk about". 
 
As per reports, the new Santro will take on its rivals such as Maruti. 
 
When Santro was phased out it sold nearly 2,500 units per month. Santro, which was globally known as the Hyundai Atos Prime, replaced it with i10 in most markets across the world in 2007.

New Delhi, Feb 1 () Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) on Saturday reported a 3.37 per cent decline in total sales at 52,002 units in January.
 The company had sold 53,813 units in the same month last year, HMIL said in a statement.
 Domestic sales were down 8.3 per cent to 42,002 units as against 45,803 units in January 2019, the company added.
 The company also said that it has commenced bookings for BSVI versions of Elite i20, Venue and Grand i10.
 Hyundai has already initiated sale of BSVI compliant Nios, Elantra, Santro and the newly launched Aura compact sedan. MSS ANS

A raging pandemic along with a phase of astrologically <keyword id="9948498" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="inauspicious-time-period">inauspicious time period</keyword> does not seem to bother <keyword id="480874" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Honda-Motorcycle-Scooter-India">Honda Motorcycle &amp; Scooter India</keyword> which foresees accelerated demand and dispatches for September. According to <keyword id="1370385" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Yadvinder-Singh-Guleria">Yadvinder Singh Guleria</keyword>, Director, Sales and Marketing, HMSI, ease in Covid restrictions, current stock levels at the dealerships and <keyword id="9948494" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="high-customer-enquiries">high customer enquiries</keyword> have bolstered the recovery prospects. The two-wheeler giant had reported a growth of just 1 per cent in <keyword id="9948496" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="domestic-sales-last-month">domestic sales last month</keyword> on a year-on-year basis. Accordingly, the company's total sales during August stood at 4,43,969 units, including 4,28,231 domestic off-take and 15,738 exports. Sequentially, <keyword id="20630" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Honda">Honda</keyword>'s sales grew by a significant 38 per cent in August comp ared to July. "We are optimistic for September. However, factors like rising Covid cases per day, persistence of some local lockdowns and the inauspicious period in September can not be ignored," he told IANS. "On the other hand, 95 per cent of our network is back, we have witnessed rising number of enquiries about new products, in some cases 75 per cent more test rides have taken place on a fortnightly basis and then there is the pent-up demand factor as well." Traditionally, sales momentum has slowed down during the astrologically inauspicious time period of 'Shradh' as customers postpone their buying decision. Interestingly, after 160 years, this inauspicious time period is followed by a 'gap month' in astrological calendar, that is delaying the onset of festive season. These notions and traditions are highly believed and followed in rural India, which is also a base for two-wheeler consumption. Nonetheless, Guleria cited the urban base of the company as a major contributor to its overall growth. "We have a significant presence in urban areas. Now, we are also see ing some 'green shoots' in urban demand as the pandemic spreads to semi rural areas and the hinterland," he said during the interaction. "Southern region has boosted our prospects. We have a healthy traction in this region. Overall, rural sales will continue to be a major contributor to our sales as healthy monsoon rains, higher crop output and support pr ices will bolster buying sentiment." On the upcoming festive season, he said the two-wheeler major was now confident of achieving healthy sales level during this period. "There will be pent-up demand and customers will be attracted to new offerings, we are now working with our dealers to prepare ahead to meet this demand," he said. "Production and dispatches levels are optimal but you really do not want to overstock during these uncertain times." The company has a line-up of 14 models including its latest motorcycle Hornet 2.0 dispatched for the festive season. In terms of new offerings, Guleria cited that recently launched motorcycles h ave reached dealerships and received healthy response. "We have witnessed this shift towards personal mobility due to Covid. This shift is not entirely towards purchase of cars but the demand trajectory is for two-wheelers," he explained. "We have also witnessed that customers' fear factor has gone down and the enquiries rate has increased. All these combined will give a healthy push during the festive season." Honda two-wheeler sees healthy September dispatches —management is betting on festive season sales to maintain momentum

<ul><li>Latest data released by SIAM showed a continuing downward trend for the auto industry in India.</li><li>There was a downfall of 21% in the purchase of passenger vehicles sold in May, from 3 lakh units to 2.39 lakh units in the same month a year before.</li><li>In April, passenger vehicle sales were down by 17%.</li><li>The overall Commercial Vehicles segment registered a decline of 8.05% in April-May 2019. </li></ul>The sale of passenger vehicles declined by 18.82% in April-May 2019 over the same period last year, the worst in 18 years, according to data by Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). Within the Passenger Vehicles (cars, UV’s/SUV’s,and vans), the sales for Passenger Cars, Utility Vehicle &amp; Vans declined by 22.98%, 6.15% and 28.57% respectively in April-May 2019, compared to the same period last year. The data showed a downfall of 21% in the sale of passenger vehicles in May, 2019 from 300,000 units to 239,000 units in the same month in 2018. As per <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/business/india-business/passenger-vehicle-sales-decline-most-in-18-yrs/articleshow/69749043.cms">experts </a>, different factors may be contributing to this lowering trend in <keyword id="47168" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Car-sales">car sales</keyword>. First being the declining health of the Indian economy. The GDP growth figure for the third quarter of FY19 was merely 6.6% — the lowest in five quarters. This can be a worrying situation for the government as well, because private consumption has been a strong pillar of India’s growth story, which is now slumping. Amongst other factors, slowdown in urban hubs is being attributed to the popularising shared mobility like Ola and UBER. Rising congestion on roads and improvement in public infrastructure are also important to this phase. Despite the addition of new models, such as Hyundai’s hatchback Santro, Maruti’s tallboy WagonR, TATA’s Harrier off-roader, and Mahindra’s Marazzo and XUV 300 SUV’s, buyers are not warming up to the new launches. In rural areas the slowdown in sales is being attributed to the stressed farm loans. In a statement, Director General of SIAM, Vishnu Mathur, <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/business/india-business/passenger-vehicle-sales-decline-most-in-18-yrs/articleshow/69749043.cms">said </a>the “Buyers need affordability. The situation is very serious.” Mathur added that the industry is saddled with heavy inventory, and despite offering deep discounts and freebies, companies do not see fresh investments and expansion till the situation improves. The introduction of the new BS6 (Bharat Stage 6) emissions regulations from 1 April 2020, new technology will be needed to keep emissions in check, in particular for new diesel engine vehicles. These new add-ons are said to increase the prices of diesel cars even further and increase the gap between a new petrol car and a new diesel car by nearly ₹250,000.
