Srettha, a real estate mogul, became the fourth Thai prime minister in the past 16 years to be ousted by the court, which found that he breached the constitution by choosing a minister who did not meet ethical standards. His dismissal, after less than a year in office, means that parliament will need to meet to select a new prime minister, raising the possibility of increased uncertainty in a country plagued by coups and judicial decisions that have repeatedly toppled governments and political parties over the past two decades. Just last week, the same court dissolved the anti-establishment Move Forward Party (MFP), a popular opposition group, ruling that its efforts to reform a law against insulting the monarchy threatened the constitutional monarchy. The MFP reformed under a new name on Friday, CNA reported. Srettha's Pheu Thai Party, along with its predecessors, has been at the centre of Thailand's political turmoil, with two of its administrations removed by coups in an ongoing conflict between the party's founders, the Shinawatra family, and their conservative and royalist military opponents. The court's ruling could disrupt a fragile peace between political heavyweight Thaksin Shinawatra and his conservative and military adversaries, which facilitated Shinawatra's return from 15 years in exile in 2023 and Srettha's ascent to the premiership on the same day. Srettha defended his appointment of former Shinawatra lawyer Pichit Chuenban, who was briefly imprisoned for contempt of court in 2008 over an alleged bribery attempt, arguing that it was legitimate. Thai court removes PM Srettha over ethical breach in cabinet selection

Schools in Telangana were set to reopen on September 1, but the High Court has put a stay on the decision taken by the state government. The government had earlier proposed to allow students to return to schools for classes 8 to 12. However, parents had urged the government, led by Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, to keep them shut. The court’s ruling today was in response to a public interest litigation (PIL) on the matter. The stay order is applicable for a week. “No student from any school private or government, KG to class 12, shall be compelled to attend physical classes from Sept 1," the court reportedly said. The ruling applies to all kinds of educational institutions including hostels and gurukuls. Telangana High Court says schools in the state won’t reopen on September 1

At a time when spurt in Covid-19 cases in some states, including <keyword id="13126" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Maharashtra">Maharashtra</keyword> have raised fears of a second wave, <keyword id="68884" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Telangana">Telangana</keyword> has stopped issuing daily media bulletins on the pandemic. Director of Public Health G. Srinivasa Rao said instead of daily bulletin, the <keyword id="6360339" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="department">department</keyword> will issue it once a week. The move has come as a surprise to people as the bulletin was helping them to keep track of the situation on daily basis. The bulletin was containing vital information like number of new cases and deaths reported, number of tests conducted, recoveries, district-wise daily count of cases and bed status in government and private hospitals. Only two days ago, health minister Eatala Rajender had said that the health department was on alert following an advisory from the <keyword id="6356303" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Centre">Centre</keyword>. He also revealed that they were focusing on districts bordering Maharashtra where there is a spike in cases. Stating that there is no major spike in cases in the state, the director of public health said in case of any significant development, the media will be informed. He justified the move to stop issuing daily bulletins saying the department can use human resources for Covid-19 vaccination drive instead. The health department had started issuing daily bulletins since March last year. A court in Bihar had last week restrained Netflix from using Subrata Roy's name in the web series. The over Rs 7,000 crore Satyam scam came to light on January 7, 2009 when Ramalinga Raju confessed that the company's account books and profits were inflated over many years to the tune of several crores of rupees. Police arrested him two days later on a complaint by some shareholders. The CBI filed three charge sheets against Raju and the other accused, charging them with cheating, criminal conspiracy, forgery, falsification of accounts and breach of trust. A special CBI court in April 2015 had sentenced him, his two brothers and seven others to seven years in prison in the case, said to be India's biggest corporate fraud. However, a month later, the metropolitan sessions court suspended their sentence and granted them bail. Hyderabad Court stays release of Netflix's Bad Boy Billionaires: India following Ramalinga Raju's objections

The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Tuesday directed the state government to immediately remove the ruling <keyword id="302547" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="YSR-Congress-Party">YSR Congress Party</keyword> flag colours from all government buildings. The court directed the Chief Secretary to ensure that panchayat bhavans and other government buildings are painted in some other colour within 10 days. The Chief Secretary was directed to submit a report on the implementation of its direction supported by evidence. The court passed the orders on a petition filed by one M. Venkateshwara Rao of Guntur district. The high court set aside an order of Panchayat Raj Commissioner for painting Panchayat Raj buildings in blue, white and green, which are the colours on the YSRCP flag. After YSRCP came to power, several government offices, panchayat offices, anganwadis, school buildings, water tanks and other public buildings were painted with the ruling party's flag colours. The officials were also issued orders with regard to the colours and specifications and size of the photo of Chief Minister Y.S. <keyword id="64899" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jagan-Mohan-Reddy">Jagan Mohan Reddy</keyword> on the top of every building. Chandrababu had even tweeted a picture of a panchayat office, where the YSRCP party flag colours replaced the Tricolour. Cognizant, Accenture and Caspex accused of 'white collar slavery' in a new lawsuit

Soon after the independence and formation of Pakistan, the Nizam of Hyderabad, late Nizam Osman Ali Khan, who then wanted to accede Hyderabad to Pakistan, had transferred his fortune to the high commissioner of Pakistan in Britain and that was then deposited with the NatWest Bank in London. The fortune was 1,007,940 pounds and nine shillings in 1948, which has since then grown into £35 million. India and Pakistan have since then been fighting for the rights of the fortune. The Nizam’s descendents have joined hands with the government of India in the legal pursuit for the fortune, further strengthening the case in India’s favour while Pakistan has been claiming the riches to be rightfully theirs. "His Exalted Highness Nizam VIII and his younger brother have waited decades to receive what their grandfather gifted them. Pakistan has blocked access for 70 years and we hope the recent trial will mean a final resolution at last," said Paul Hewitt, partner at Withers law firm, which is representing the eighth Nizam of Hyderabad, in the Royal Courts of Justice in London. The major question the court has to deal with is who exactly is the beneficial owner of the funds. Priests of various religious faiths offered prayers as the state received 3.64 lakh doses of Oxford-Astrazeneca's <keyword id="9617748" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="covishield">Covishield</keyword> vaccine. After arrival at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, the consignment was shifted to State Vaccine Centre at Koti, where the vials were kept in the storage under the prescribed temperature. Divine blessings for the success of vaccination were sought as Hindu, Muslim and Christian priests offered prayers when the doses were received by top officials and shifted to the cold storage. Director Public Health G. Srinivas Rao said both Covishield and Covaxin will be administered to health workers. In addition to 3.64 lakh doses of Covishield received from <keyword id="95879" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Serum-Institute-of-India">Serum Institute of India</keyword>, Pune, the state also received 20,000 doses of Covaxin, developed and manufactured by Hyderabad-based <keyword id="149108" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bharat-Biotech">Bharat Biotech</keyword>. "This is a historic day for mankind as a vaccine is ready in a record time of 10 months," said Rao while thanking researchers and scientists who worked on developing the vaccines. The official said they were also proud to receive Covaxin made on Telangana soil. Both the vaccines will be administered to health workers from January 16, the day when the vaccine rollout is scheduled to start across the country. Thes vials will be transported to various Regional Vaccine Centres and from there will be shipped to cold chain points. In all, 866 cold chain points have been arranged for transport of the vaccine. On the first day, 13,900 doses will be administered at 139 sites. The vaccination will be conducted at all 1,213 centres across the state from January 18. Earlier, the first consignment of Covishield vaccines arrived at the Cargo terminal of RGIA by the Spicejet Freighter, SG7466 at 11:30 a.m. from Pune. The consignment was handled as per the special protocol ensuring cold-chain integrity. A dedicated Vaccine Task Force that has been formed, with a nodal person, to ensure a seamless and high priority movement of Covid 19 vaccines handled the shipment at the airport. The Vaccine consignment consisting of 31 boxes were offloaded from the aircraft parked in the adjoining dedicated cargo apron and swiftly taken to the vaccine storage and handling areas in the GHAC Terminal. The Task Force ensured the quick movement of the vaccine through the domestic inbound section to the reefer truck bound for consignee (State government). Out of 41 mini-hubs planned across the country by the <keyword id="6377129" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="government-of-india">Government of India</keyword>, Hyderabad has been notified as one of the designated distribution points for South India. "GMR Hyderabad Air Cargo (GHAC) has a major role cut out in the entire value chain of vaccine shipments and is well equipped with the necessary infrastructure to handle hundreds of tonnes of vaccine cargo per day. The terminal offers one of India's largest fleet of the modern temp-controlled Cool Containers viz. Cool Dolly, Envirotainer, VaQtec, etc," said Pradeep Panicker, CEO, GMR Hyderabad International Airport. A committee led by Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar, will oversee the vaccination at state level. Task force committees have been set up at the district and zonal levels. Somesh Kumar on Tuesday held a teleconference with all <keyword id="6640892" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="district-collectors">district collectors</keyword> to review the preparations for launch of Covid vaccination programme. He sensitised the Collectors about the importance of the programme which in the first phase is going to cover all healthcare workers from government as well as private facilities. Somesh Kumar directed the collectors to ensure that necessary arrangements were made at the identified launch sites in their districts as per operational guidelines including measures for dealing with any cases of adverse effect following immunisation. He asked collectors to appoint special officers for each launch site who would be responsible for overseeing the arrangements there. Collectors were advised to keep reserve vaccinators at each site. They were asked to facilitate presence of pre-identified beneficiaries through network of district officials. Considering the importance of the programme, the Chief Secretary advised the Collectors to seek participation of public representatives at all levels. He further advised them to schedule a smaller number of beneficiaries on the first day and thereafter ramp up the numbers, taking into account the experience. First consignment of COVID vaccines land in Hyderabad amid prayers, hopes

Hyderabad, The <keyword id="2759029" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Telangana-High-Court">Telangana High Court</keyword> on Thursday directed state health authorities to conduct Covid-19 tests on those coming from other states. It also suggested that only those who have undergone <keyword id="9043621" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="RT-PCR">RT-PCR</keyword> tests be allowed into the state. The high court orders came in the wake of surge in Covid cases, especially in the districts bordering <keyword id="13126" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Maharashtra">Maharashtra</keyword>, which is witnessing a massive spike. The court also asked the government to constitute a committee of experts to suggest measures to check the spread of Covid-19. It observed that while the state may not impose a lockdown, it should create containment zones wherever cases were detected to check spread of the virus. On the direction of the court two days ago, the <keyword id="48418" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Health-department">Health Department</keyword> submitted its report on testing and treatment while the Director General of Police submitted a report on action taken against the violators of Covid-19 guidelines. The DGP, in his report, informed the court that 22,000 cases were booked against those violating Covid-19 guidelines. The report says 2,416 cases were booked for not following social distancing, and six cases for spitting on roads. The court expressed surprise that only 1.16 lakh people were fined for not following the Covid guidelines, observing that action against those not following guidelines is only for name's sake. A bench of Chief Justice Hima Kohli and Justice B. Vijaysen Reddy once again voiced its displeasure over fewer RT-PCR tests at a time when the second wave of the pandemic is sweeping across the country. It asked the health authorities to increase RT-PCR tests to 70 per cent of all Covid tests as per guidelines issued by the Central government. The court expressed concern over crowds at liquor shops, bars, pubs and cinema theatres, remarking that the liquor shops have turned into corona sources. It directed that criminal cases be booked against those wine shops, pubs, bars and restaurants violating Covid guidelines and their license be cancelled. The court also asked the health authorities to ensure that social distancing is followed at the meetings of political parties and marriages. The Health Department informed the court that sero surveillance will be completed in six weeks, and the court asked it to submit the report. The court also wanted the government to spell out its plans for giving Covid vaccine to various groups of beneficiaries, especially inmates of old age homes. It directed the government to provide details of the number of doses received by the state, doses administered, wastage etc. The court asked the government to submit a report by April 14 and adjourned the hearing to April 19.

Now, the local court has slammed the former liquor baron with four more non-bailable warrants (NBWs) after he failed to appear in a court for bounced cheques worth Rs 2 crore to GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd.

Bengaluru/Hyderabad, Jul 8 () The sharp spurt in the number of coronavirus cases in Bengaluru and Hyderabad since relaxations in lockdown curbs last month is causing concern for managers of the two southern cities. In the first seven days of this month alone, Bengaluru has added over 6,800 cases while the Telangana capital more than 9,000 infections with officials attributing it largely to movement of people consequent to easing of restrictions. These two cities had remained relatively immune to the virus till over a month ago when Chennai in neighbouring Tamil Nadu was reporting high case load due to two superspreaders, including Koyambedu wholesale market. In Bengaluru, the country's IT capital, the upward curve came sooner than anticipated, at least by two weeks, prompting officials to expedite measures. On the other hand, in Hyderabad there has also been an increase in the number of tests since late last month with the government declaring it would carry out 50,000 tests in the city and its neighbourhood. The number of COVID-19 cases in Bengaluru was only 358 on May 31 when Lockdown-4 ended but has risen to 4,555 on June 30 (end of unlock 1.0), and further zoomed to 11,361 on Tuesday, according to the city civic body. With 9,395 active cases, the city has so far reported 155 deaths and 1,810 discharges. While the positivity rate stands at 8.52 per cent, mortality rate is 1.37 per cent. According to Dr Giridhar Babu of Public Health Foundation of India, while everyone anticipated the surge, the timing took them by surprise. "So while the state and BBMP (Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike) were planning to roll out COVID care centres and everything by the end of this week expecting that the surge will happen around this time, the surge started two weeks earlier," Babu told . Also a member of the state Covid-19 technical advisory committee, he said, "so the emergency response kind of thing did not happen, but now I think it is back on track." Those in administration did expect the cases to increase after relaxation relating to lockdown curbs, but had no idea it would spike so early. "In Bengaluru we were aware that there would be a surge in the number of infections when we relaxed the lockdown, but the information that came to us did not show that the surge will be to this extent," Medical Education Minister K Sudhakar said. "These numbers we are seeing now were expected by July-end, but has happened a bit earlier," he said, but added there was no need to worry as the government was making all the necessary arrangements to manage the situation. Out of the overall 26,815 COVID-19 cases confirmed in Karnataka, 11,361 infections are from Bengaluru Urban, and 800 of the 1,498 fresh cases reported in the state on Tuesday were from the capital city alone. According to Babu, Bengaluru was at the risk of having a surge in cases from the beginning like some other cities, but the numbers did not see an incremental jump during the lockdown because the curbs were implemented much better. He said coordination and preparation within BBMP post relaxations did not match with the kind of "brilliant work" they did during the lockdown and it was one of the reasons for the surge in cases. Effective contact tracing was done during the lockdown and involving almost all the staff members, but once the lockdown was lifted they resumed with their earlier duties, and this led to shortage of manpower for contact tracing. The government has now deployed 1,246 employees from various departments for contact tracing with special focus on Bengaluru and surrounding areas and warned of strict action in case of refusal to undertake the work. Hyderabad, the capital of Telangana, has also witnessed quick average increase since July 1. Though the cumulative number of cases in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation limits was not immediately available, the daily numbers have been quite significant. The first week of this month alone saw addition of 9,227 cases with steady increase in the single day count which has remained in four figures since July 3. Health department officials attribute the surge in cases in GHMC area, besides other places in Telangana, to increased movement of people and mobility after relaxation in lockdown conditions had been allowed. Citizens are travelling across the state and most of them were not following the basic preventive measures like wearing a mask, they said. As on July 7, the tally of positive cases in the state stood at 27,612 with 313 deaths against 1,28,438 samples tested cumulatively. Amidst opposition criticism over the handling of the pandemic, especially on the testing front, the government had last month announced ramping up the test samples in districts including Hyderabad, even as it urged people not to panic. The state high court had also expressed displeasure over a report filed by the government on the number of tests done and sought to know why reports on the coronavirus situation being put out for the public lacked 'detailed' information. The K Chandrashekhar Rao government has decided that it will not allow any relaxations, and the curfew will continue as is for the lockdown period. The CM added that irrespective of the centre's decision, the lockdown will continue even after the nationwide lockdown ends on May 17. “The situation in the State capital, Hyderabad, and its neighbouring districts, Rangareddy and Malkajigiri-Medchal district is very serious and there is no way we can take any chances.” said the CM at Pragati Bhavan. “We are in flattening stage and in near future we will crush the pandemic in the state.” he added. So far, 1096 cases of Coronavirus have been reported in the state and out of this, 628 people have been discharged so far. Majority of the fresh cases are being reported from GHMC, which includes the state's capital Hyderabad. As per the CM, originally, the epicenter for Coronavirus in the state was Karimnagar but the government was able to control the spread of the disease. Shops in 25 districts to open from May 6 The CM also announced that all shops in the orange and green zones, which covers 25 districts of the state will be allowed to open from May 6. However, non-essential shops will continue to remain closed in the three red zones - Hyderabad, Rangareddy and Malkajgiri-Medchal. However, the state government has put some restrictions 0n the shops even in the orange and green zones. In municipal towns, only 50% of the shops will be allowed to operate and in rural areas, including mandals and villages, 100% of the shops will be permitted to operate. The CM added that shops in municipal towns will be opened on a rotational basis. “This will be on a rotational basis, and all shop-owners will get a chance to open their shops on alternate days,” the CM said. Review meeting on May 15 While it is unlikely that the lockdown will be relaxed before May 29, the Telangana government has announced that a review meeting will be held on May 15. It is expected that the situation in various parts of the state, especially the red zones and the measures being taken by the government will be reviewed during this meeting. SSC exams to be conducted soon The Telangana government intends to conduct the SSC examination soon. The Advocate General has been asked to file a petition in the Telangana High Court as the matter is adjudicated before the court. The government has said that it will take all precautions, including social distancing to conduct the SSC exams. India’s liquor baron <keyword id="14678" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Vijay-Mallya">Vijay Mallya</keyword>, who has <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Vijay-Mallyas-journey-from-a-businessman-to-a-fraudster/articleshow/51328653.cms">fled the country</a> after being a defaulter of several <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/SBI-wants-Vijay-Mallya-arrested/articleshow/51240258.cms">state-run banks</a>, has been slammed with a non-bailable warrant (NBW) by the Hyderabad court. The warrant was issued after Mallya <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Vijay-Mallya-has-7-days-to-return-to-India-and-appear-before-the-ED/articleshow/51360074.cms">failed to appear in the court</a> in connection with alleged dishonour of a cheque of Rs 50 lakh to GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd. 
 
Mallya’s counsel has said that he will move the high court seeking quashing of the non-bailable warrant (NBW). 
 
"He (Mallya) and others were supposed to appear before the court on March 10. They did not appear ... Hence, court issued NBW order which has to be executed by April 13," said GMR counsel G Ashok Reddy. He added that there are a total of 11 cases involving Rs 8 crore payment to GMR and the NBWs were issued in connection with a Rs 50 lakh bounced cheque. 
 
Mallya’s advocate H Sudhakar Rao said, "NBWs have been issued in this case. There are other cases going on wherein we have got orders from high court dispensing with his (Mallya's) attendence." 
 
"I will be filing an application in the high court for quashing this order of issuing warrants," Rao told PTI. 
 
When contacted by ET, GMR refused to comment on the issue claiming the matter to be sub judice.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the Centre, informed the bench that the commission on Air Quality Management will start functioning from Friday and the government has appointed members of the commission as well.
