Facing a decline in its earnings, the <keyword id="6360676" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Railways">Railways</keyword> is likely to introduce the dynamic fare system in <keyword id="3260042" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Humsafar-Express">Humsafar Express</keyword> trains, a special class service comprising only AC-3 coaches with many added facilities, to perk up revenue, according to a news agency report. 
 Equipped with coffee/tea/soup vending machine, hot and refrigerated pantry and other facilities in each cabin, the first <keyword id="6399786" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Humsafar">Humsafar</keyword> <keyword id="6413405" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="express">Express</keyword> is slated to be launched between New Delhi and <keyword id="43253" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Gorakhpur">Gorakhpur</keyword> early next month. 
 
The train was scheduled to be flagged off this month, but it was delayed owing to various reasons, including the recent train accident in Kanpur. 
 "Manufacturing cost of these coaches with modern facilities is high...so there has to be special fares for these services which will be higher than that of regular trains," a senior <keyword id="54441" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Railway-ministry">Railway Ministry</keyword> official said. 
 Railway Minister <keyword id="6356597" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Suresh-Prabhu">Suresh Prabhu</keyword> had announced during the presentation of <keyword id="4183143" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rail-Budget">Rail Budget</keyword> 2016-17 that there will be seven Humsafar Express trains for inter-city overnight journey, with many additional facilities which are otherwise not available in normal AC-3 coaches. 
 
"The modalities of fare structure are being finalised. We examined several options to fix the fare considering the high expenditure incurred on it. One option was to fix the fare at 20 to 30 per cent higher than the regular AC-3 fares. The other was dynamic pricing," he said. 
 
"For Humsafar, the pricing will be dynamic as there will be provision for lower fare in case of vacant berths at the time of preparation of reservation chart," he said. 
 
In dynamic pricing, the fare goes up with demand and comes down if there is lack of demand. 
 
"We are working out details to have a cap on maximum fare and also for a minimum base fare," he added. 
 
CCTV, GPS-based passenger information system, fire and smoke detection and suppression system, mobile and laptop charging points with every berth are some of the features on Humsafar trains. 
 Besides, Humsafar will have improved aesthetics with new interior and exterior colour scheme presenting a futuristic look with the use of vinyl sheets similar to <keyword id="55491" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Maharaja-Express">Maharaja Express</keyword> coaches. It will also have integrated braille displays. 
 
Indian Railways has introduced dynamic surge fares on Rajdhani, Shatabdi and Duronto trains from September 9 which has resulted in additional earnings of more than Rs 50 crore till October this year. 
 
The Railways' earnings by the end of September have declined by Rs 3,208.51 crore as compared to September last year. The Railways earned Rs 79,475.42 crore up to September 2016 as against Rs 76,268.91 crore for the corresponding period last year, a decline of 4.04 per cent.

<keyword id="6360676" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Railways">Railways</keyword> had a difficult year grappling with mounting revenue shortfall and facing challenge in expenditure and the Kanpur mishap, one of the worst in decades that snuffed out over 150 lives, exposed glaring safety lapses, according to an agency news report. 
 
The year 2016 will also be remembered for government taking a historic decision of doing away with separate Rail Budget, Railways undertaking much-awaited changes in restructuring of its administration aiming at introducing accountability in functioning. 
 On the sunny side, the year saw introduction of new class of services like Mahamanya Express, Gatimaan Express and <keyword id="3260042" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Humsafar-Express">Humsafar Express</keyword> redefining passengers travel experience in trains. 
 Owing to less loadings demand and poor growth in passenger bookings in 2016, there was a shortfall of about Rs 14,000 crore in total revenue earnings besides the cross-subsidy in passenger segment touching at Rs 33,000 crore and the <keyword id="35069" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="pay-commission">Pay Commission</keyword> commitments staring at Rs 32,000 crore. 
 Acknowledging the difficult market condition that the national transporter witnessed during the year, Railway Minister <keyword id="6356597" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Suresh-Prabhu">Suresh Prabhu</keyword> said, "2016 was a difficult year. It was a difficult year in terms of freight. Coal, steel, cement, iron ore all the major commodities that Railways handle witnessed less demand." 
 
He further said, "There are perpetual issues, like salary burden of Railways is very high. The costs are pre-determined so we can't do nothing about it. The revenues are dependent on five commodities. So expenditure is a challenge for Railways. We will start addressing these challenges in 2017 more." 
 However, <keyword id="19179" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="prabhu">Prabhu</keyword> said despite challenges, "Railways was ready to handle 1.2 billion of cargo loadings. First time Railways has created such capacity ahead of demand." 
 However, derailment of 14 coaches of <keyword id="3865996" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="indore-patna-express">Indore-Patna Express</keyword> at <keyword id="453566" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Pukhrayan">Pukhrayan</keyword> near Kanpur in the early hours of November 21 claiming over 150 lives and injuring more than 200 passengers exposed glaring safety lapses and highlighted the urgent need for a separate safety fund to strengthen and upgrade rail infrastructure. 
 Though <keyword id="2072323" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Railway-Safety-Commission">Railway Safety Commission</keyword> is yet to submit the inquiry report, possible rail fracture highlighting poor maintenance of track seem to be reason behind the accident.

of about Rs 14,000 crore in total revenue earnings

The Ministry of <keyword id="6360676" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="railways" source="Orion">Railways</keyword> has increased the speed of 500 <keyword id="5947970" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="mail-express-trains" source="Orion">Mail Express trains</keyword> through the new time table of the Railways from Monday. Now, these <keyword id="6413405" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="express" source="Orion">express</keyword> trains will reach their destination faster by 10 to 70 minutes. Along with this, Railways has converted 130 services i.e. 65 pairs from Express to Superfast. It is expected that the new time table will improve the punctuality of trains by about 9 percent, due to which about 84 percent of the trains will reach their destinations at the right time. Indian Railways runs about 3240 Mail/Express trains daily which include Vande Bharat Express, Gatimaan Express, Rajdhani Express, Shatabdi Express, Humsafar Express, Tejas Express, Duronto Express, Antyodaya Express, Garib Rath Express, Sampark Kranti Express, Yuva Express, Uday Express. Apart from these, about 3000 passenger trains and approximately more than 5600 suburban trains run daily in which about 2.23 crore people travel daily. Apart from these, a large number of goods trains are operated. Constant efforts are made to run these trains in a time-bound manner and make them reach their destinations on time. Every year, attempts are made to increase the speed of trains while making the new time table of trains. During the pandemic, the Railways in collaboration with IIT Mumbai had tried to make a zero based time table. After all these efforts, the new time table has been implemented from 1 October 2022. In this, the average speed of all trains of Railways has been increased by 5 percent. According to the Ministry of Railways, in making the new time table, the Railways has got 5 percent additional lines to run new trains. With this exercise, 5 percent more capacity has been developed on the existing railway line to run new trains. The punctuality in trains in the year 2019-20 was 75 per cent but the same has increased by 9 percent to 84 percent in the year 2022-23. (Eds: Adds details) New Delhi, Jun 17 () Out of the 503 isolation coaches deployed in Delhi for COVID-19 patients, 317 will be ready by Wednesday night and the rest by Thursday, the Northern Railways said. The coaches were deployed at nine stations in the national capital after Union Home Minister Amit Shah made the announcement as part of measures to contain the novel coronavirus pandemic, officials said. Shah had made the announcement after a meeting with Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday over the COVID-19 situation in the national capital, where the disease has claimed 1,837 lives and infected 44,688 people so far. Northern and North Central Railway General Manager Rajiv Chaudhary said all these coaches will be fully ready for coronavirus patients by Thursday, while 317 can house patients from tonight. He said while all the coaches have been deployed, final touches like putting up mosquito nets and curtains, and installing dustbins, cleaning faucets and oxygen cylinders, are being completed. The national transporter is using different methods to keep the inside of coaches cool, Chaudhary said. "Temperature is an issue in isolation coaches. The view of medical experts was that temperature will not harm patients. We have made arrangements to cool the coaches through various means," he said. Chaudhary said all the coaches have fans and "we have a paint that can reduce temperature, we can (also) sprinkle water". "We assure you that the temperature will not be unbearable (inside the coaches)," he said. The general manager said that at the Shakur Basti station here, there is a shed, so the temperature will be less inside coaches, while at other locations, "we are experimenting with different things". The Railways has already started a series of trials to insulate roofs of 100 of the converted coaches in the Northern and North Central Zones as per standards prescribed by the Research Designs and Standards Organisation, a senior railway official told . These trials are expected to help reduce temperature inside the coaches by five to six degrees. The Railways is planning to insulate roofs of all the 5,000 coaches that have been converted into isolation coaches, the official said. The cost of insulating these coaches, by using a solution developed by IIT Mumbai, is estimated to be Rs 1 lakh per coach. Earlier, a trial was conducted on around 100 coaches of the Humsafar Express, the Jan Shatabdi Express and the Antyodaya Express, using another 'Make-in-India' product 3M Scotchkote Polytech Exp RG700, officials said. This product is a solar reflective coating which reduces heat inside any enclosure and can be applied on various metallic and non-metallic substrates, they said. The Railways is also experimenting with special bubble sheetings on roof of coaches deployed at the Anand Vihar railway station in Delhi. It has shown that temperature inside coaches can be reduced by 3 to 3.5 degrees, the officials said. Chaudhary said that the plan is to have two air-conditioned coaches for every 22 COVID care unit coaches for the medical staff to rest in. The isolation coaches in Delhi here are among the 960 converted coaches deployed so far in five different states in an effort to augment facilities for COVID-19 patients.While Delhi's Anand Vihar railway station has got the lion's share with 267 such coaches at its seven platforms, there are 50 each in Shakur Basti and Sarai Rohilla. The Railways has deployed 33 coaches in Delhi Cantonment, 30 at Adarsh Nagar, 21 at Safdarjung station, 13 each at Tughlaqabad and Shahdara, and 26 at Patel Nagar. Chaudhary also said that Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia supervised the coaches at Shakur Basti station on Wednesday and expressed hope that patients will start arriving as and when needed. COVID-19: Of 503 isolation coaches deployed in Delhi, 317 to be ready by tonight

Railways has achieved positive growth for the 2016-17 fiscal with 70 million more passengers travelling in trains than last year, breaking a five-year jinx of negative growth in the passenger sector. 
 
Since 2012, booking of passenger tickets had witnessed a decline due to various reasons. 
 
"However, with concerted efforts, we have managed to buck the trend since 2012 and achieved a positive growth for the year 2016-17," Railway Board Member (Traffic) Mohd Jamshed told PTI. 
 
Railways has initiated several initiatives in the 2016-17 fiscal to carry more passengers by pressing 87 new train services including Humsafar Express, and Antodaya trains. 
 
Many train services were extended and frequencies of certain trains were also increased to cater to the demand of passengers. 
 
Besides, 586 additional coaches were added in regular trains, generating an extra capacity of 43,420 berths by the last fiscal ending March 31, 2017. 
 
Jamshed said about 31,438 special trips were run to cater to extra rush, holiday travellers and election/paramilitary movements. 
 
The 2016-17 fiscal also saw seeding up of 350 trains and 74 trains were made superfast service. 
 
Another significant achievement of the last fiscal is that railways detected 9.75 lakh cases of ticket-less travel which is 6 per cent higher over the previous year. 
 
As a result of increased number of passengers bookings, railways earned Rs 1,906 crore more than the previous year in passenger sector.
