Honda Elevate to take on the Hyundai Creta and the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara in India

However, sources indicate that the carmaker is preparing to launch a new compact SUV. Honda struggles in the Indian car market with discontinuation of nine models in six years

<keyword id="20630" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Honda">Honda</keyword> BR-V, compact sports utility vehicle by Japanese auto major Honda will be launched in India in the next financial year. 

	The seven-seater vehicle is likely to be offered in both petrol and diesel variants.
 The model will compete with the likes of <keyword id="596" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Hyundai">Hyundai</keyword> Creta, <keyword id="43777" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Renault">Renault</keyword> Duster and <keyword id="140499" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Mahindra-Scorpio">Mahindra Scorpio</keyword>, among others. 

	Honda showcased a lineup of models at the 44th Tokyo Motor Show 2015 here and unveiled a new fuel cell vehicle (FCV) named Clarity Fuel Cell.
 

	The "all-new" Clarity fuses the ease of use of a gasoline-powered vehicle and values that are unique to a FCV at a high level, company officials said.
 

	Honda will begin lease sales of Clarity in Japan in March 2016, followed by the US and Europe.
 

	"A highly unique package for this vehicle was realised based on Honda's longstanding M/M concept- man maximum, machine minimum - which means to maximise the space for people and minimise the space required for mechanical components," Honda President and Chief Executive Officer Takahiro Hachigo told reporters here.
 

	Providing an update on Honda's aviation foray, he said: "Finally, let me say that some of Honda's challenges toward new mobility products will bear fruit this year. Our entry into the aviation industry, which was also a dream of our company founder, with our HF120 jet engine and HondaJet is coming very close."

Honda BR-V to be launched in India next fiscal

Thanks to several factors including the MNC culture and growing economy, Indian families are getting wealthier, which is resulting in them going on long weekend trips. Now, this has forced the auto makers to re-draw their strategies so that they include a three-row sport-utility or multi-purpose vehicle in their portfolio. 
 
Taking this into consideration, as many as eight of the top ten car makers in India are looking forward to offering such options, either for the first time or in addition to what they already have. The changes would be implemented in India over the next two-three years, and the new vehicles would in the range of Rs 10 to 20 lakhs. 
 In the ongoing Auto Expo, compact SUVs, which are smaller than four meters, kept the viewers busy on the first day. However, bigger machines with three rows of seats were also launched by several companies. These include Honda’s BRV, a seven-seater which would be making its debut in April and targets big families. BRV would be facing tough competition from <keyword id="3231107" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Toyota-Innova-Crysta">Toyota Innova Crysta</keyword> and <keyword id="2751450" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Tata-Hexa">Tata Hexa</keyword>, which were also unveiled at the Auto Expo. 
 
Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai Motor India, on the other hand, would add new products to their portfolio in the next year. Mahindra &amp; Mahindra has announced a global MPV, Renault has its Grand Capture coming, while Ford India would also be launching vehicles in the same category. 
"The segment (three-row) does offer a good potential growth in the Indian market. As the largest utility vehicle maker, we do have options available for our consumers and we constantly look at bridging the gap we have in our portfolio," Pravin Shah, chief executive of Mahindra's automotive division, told ET. 
 
As per industry experts, more than half the number of people who buy passenger vehicles are either upgrading to a bigger vehicle or buying a new car because of the rising weekend culture. The three-row utility vehicle is going to be the next big segment in the Indian automobile market.

Indian automobile manufacturers are redrawing their strategy to include three-row SUVs and MPVs in their portfolio

New Delhi, Jun 12 () Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL) on Friday said it is recalling 65,651 units of models like Amaze, City and Jazz to replace faulty fuel pumps. The company would voluntarily replace fuel pumps in the cars, HCIL said in a statement. The fuel pumps installed in these 2018 manufactured vehicles may contain defective impellers, which could over time result in engine stopping or not starting, it added. Under the initiative, the company is recalling 32,498 units of Amaze, 16,434 units of City, 7,500 units of Jazz, 7,057 units of WR-V, 1,622 units of BR-V, 360 units of Brio and 180 units of CR-V. The replacement will be carried out free of cost at company dealerships across the country in a phased manner starting from June 20 and the owners will be contacted individually, HCIL said. As the dealer facilities are currently functioning with limited staff to ensure implementation of safety and distancing norms specified by the government, customers are advised to visit the dealer with prior appointment to avoid inconvenience, it added. The car is expected to be offered in 1.2-litre K-Series and 1.4-litre K-Series engine options for Petrol. For Diesel, the 1.3-litre Multijet Diesel is a possibility. This is Maruti’s first attempt to topple <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Ford+EcoSport">Ford EcoSport</a> in the compact SUV segment. 
 
Honda BR-V 
 
Honda would of course not want to be left behind in the segment. The company’s <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Compact+SUV">Compact SUV</a>, the BR-V shares the Brio platform with Amaze and Mobilio. 
 
This one is expected to be powered by 1.5-litre i-VTEC Petrol and 1.5-litre i-DTEC Diesel engines. Yeah, it’s the same fitted in the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Honda+City">Honda City</a>. 
 
The car's wheel arches, front grill and sport design suggest Honda’s watching the sub-four meter segment closely.

Top Compact SUVs to watch out in 2016

India’s homegrown SUV giant <keyword id="45224" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Mahindra">Mahindra</keyword> &amp; Mahindra today unveiled the new <keyword id="161362" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Ssangyong">SsangYong</keyword> <keyword id="504693" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="compact-SUV">Compact SUV</keyword> at the Delhi <keyword id="2855210" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Auto-Expo-2016">Auto Expo 2016</keyword>. 
 
Mahindra-owned Ssangyong has promised that its Duster-sized Tivoli will hit Indian showrooms fast. Mahindra is set to power the Tivoli with its 1.5-litre diesel engine to maintain a stronghold in the heavily competitive Compact SUV market in India. The new SUV measures 4,185mm in length, 1,795mm in width and 1,590mm in height, and it comes with a wheelbase of 2,600mm. 
 
The India-spec model is powered by the 1.5-liter mHawk80 Diesel engine that powers the TUV300. Globally, the SsangYong Tivoli is available with two engine options- 124 BHP, 1.6-litre, 4-cylinder Petrol and 113 BHP, 1.6-litre 4-cylinder Diesel. Six-speed Manual and an Automatic transmission option is included. 
 
The Tivoli will be launched in India in the second half of 2016. Known to be the urban SUV, this compact SUV will rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Renault Duster, Maruti Suzuki S-Cross and the newly launched Honda BR-V SUV.

Mahindra strikes again! Launches SsangYong Tivoli Compact SUV

Auto Expo, the bi-annual auto event in India, is starting from February 5, and thanks to its rising popularity, it’s all set to launch a record number of products. 
 
The vehicles to be launched in this year’s Auto Expo include 85 passenger cars, utility vehicles, two-wheelers and commercial vehicles. In comparison to the last show, the number has grown over one-fifth, while it’s doubled if we see the data of 2012. 
 The organisers, <keyword id="82374" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Society-of-Indian-Automobile-Manufacturers">Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers</keyword> (<keyword id="108827" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="SIAM">SIAM</keyword>), is expecting a daily crowd of 1,00,000 people on an average, making it the biggest show among all auto shows that happen around the globe. 
 Out of all these impending launches, the one that’s been the most awaited is that of <keyword id="2776768" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Vitara-Brezza">Vitara Brezza</keyword>, from Maruti Suzuki. The country's largest car maker would be making the global premiere of the compact sport-utility vehicle, in the presence of <keyword id="3058572" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="T-Suzuki">T Suzuki</keyword>, the president of Maruti's Japanese parent Suzuki Motor. 
 Other top executives expected to grace the auto show include Fiat Chrysler Automobiles’ Asia Pacific COO <keyword id="1131020" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Michael-Manley">Michael Manley</keyword>, Jaguar Land Rover CEO <keyword id="224588" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ralf-Speth">Ralf Speth</keyword> and Isuzu Chairman <keyword id="2790078" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Hiroyasu-Miura">Hiroyasu Miura</keyword>. 
 
If the industry sources are to be believed, Maruti will also showcasing Ignis, which is a compact car with the design language of an SUV. Ignis is reported to take on Renault's Kwid, which has been garnering praises ever since its launch. 
 
Renault, on the other hand, would be launching two more versions of Kwid, one being a clutchless AMT version and the other with a 1-litre engine. The French car maker wants to take the position of Alto, which is Maruti Suzuki’s best-selling small car. Reportedly, Renault would also launch an upgraded version of its popular SUV Duster. 
 
Chrysler, the American automobile manufacturer would be stepping in the country for the first time, with Grand Cherokee and Wrangler. Tata's Nexon, Honda's BR-V, Datsun's redi-Go, Mercedes GLC unnamed global SUV and Tivoli from Mahindra &amp; Mahindra's South Korean subsidiary Ssangyong would also see the light of the day at the show. Hyundai’s Tucson, Toyota’s new Innova and M&amp;M's new Quanto are also in line to be unveiled. 
 
Cars to be launched under the small car and sedan segments include General Motors’ upgraded version of the Beat small car and Cruze, a new premium sedan, Fiat’s Tipo, Volkswagen’s entry-level sedan based on its already existing Polo, and Tata Motors’ sedan Sway. 
In the luxury segment, Tata JLR would be bringing out the new sports saloon Jaguar XE and SUV F-Pace. Audi will be taking the covers off the new R8, Audi Prologue concept and the Audi A8 L.
