The stock slumped to Rs 295.80 on BSE, hitting the lower circuit limit on the bourse. At the NSE, it tanked 20% to hit the lowest trading permissible limit for the day at Rs 297.25, hitting its 52-week low. The company's total market cap stood at Rs 9,655.39 crore on the NSE. Honasa reported profits after tax after worth Rs 29.43 crore for the quarter ended September 2023, per the company's filing. The company's revenue from operations was down 6.9% to Rs 461.82 crore in the second quarter of this fiscal. Chairman and CEO <keyword id="20521324" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Varun-Alagh" source="keywords">Varun Alagh</keyword> said over the past few months, Honasa Consumer has been working to optimize its distribution model, pivoting towards becoming a direct to consumer (D2C) brand, under its project Neev. "In this quarter, we have taken strategic steps towards transitioning from super-stockists to direct distributors in the top 50 cities. This change has impacted our revenue and profits, leading to a slowdown for Mamaearth," he said. While brokerage houses like Jefferies expressed disappointment over the company's quarterly performance, they maintained their buy call on the stock, albeit cutting the target price to Rs 425 from the previous Rs 545. On the other hand, Emkay Global downgraded the company's stock ratings to sell as opposed to the previous buy call, alongside cutting down the target price from Rs 300 as compared to its earlier target of Rs 600. Per the firm, Mamaearth is likely to see decline in FY25E and aims to recover base in FY26E. 2024 has not been a great year for Honasa so far, with the stock crashing 30.36% so far this year.

Honasa Consumer shares dip 20%; stock hits lower circuit limit after weak Q2 earnings

New Delhi, <keyword id="4549708" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="honasa-consumer" source="Orion">Honasa Consumer</keyword> Ltd, which owns FMCG brands such as Mamaearth and The Derma Co, on Wednesday reported an almost two-fold increase in its consolidated profit after tax to Rs 29.43 crore for the second quarter ended September. It had a profit after tax of Rs 15.19 crore in the year-ago period, according to a regulatory filing from the company, which got listed on November 7. Honasa Consumer's revenue from operations was up 20.85 per cent to Rs 496.10 crore in the second quarter of this fiscal. It was at Rs 410.49 crore in the same period a year ago. Its total expenses stood at Rs 463.98 crore in the September quarter, up 18.25 per cent compared to the year-ago period. In the latest September quarter, the company's total income jumped 21.09 per cent to Rs 503.18 crore. "Honasa has been able to deliver market-beating growths and constantly improve the profitability portfolio of the company. Our business has grown by 33 per cent Y-o-Y in H1 FY24 which is 3.8 times the median growth of FMCG companies in India," its Chairman and CEO Varun Alagh said. Shares of the company fell 4.05 per cent to close at Rs 352.10 on the BSE.

Honasa Consumer's profit rises 93% to Rs 29.4 crore in September quarter

The issue will conclude on November 2 and the anchor book of the offer will open for a day on October 30, according to the red herring prospectus. The IPO comprises a fresh issue of equity shares worth Rs 365 crore and an Offer for Sale (OFS) component of 4.12 crore equity shares by promoters, investors, and other selling shareholders. Those offering shares in the OFS include promoters and founders -- Varun Alagh and Ghazal Alagh -- and investors like Fireside Ventures Fund, Sofina, Stellaris, Kunal Bahl, Rohit <keyword id="252288" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="kumar-bansal" source="Orion">Kumar Bansal</keyword>, <keyword id="19259895" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="rishabh-harsh-mariwala" source="Orion">Rishabh Harsh Mariwala</keyword> and Bollywood actor <keyword id="6358615" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="shilpa-shetty" source="Orion">Shilpa Shetty</keyword> Kundra. Proceeds from the fresh issue would be utilised towards advertising expenses to improve awareness and brand visibility, setting up new exclusive brand outlets, investment in its subsidiary BBlunt for setting up new salons, general corporate purposes, and inorganic acquisition. The Gurugram-based beauty and personal care company was founded in 2016 by husband-wife duo Varun and Ghazal Alagh. It began with the launch of Mamaearth and over the years added five more brands to its portfolio, including The Derma Co, Aqualogica, Ayuga, BBlunt, and Dr Sheth's, and built a 'House of Brands' architecture. In January 2022, the company entered the unicorn club. Kotak Mahindra Capital Company, Citigroup Global Markets India, JM Financial and JP Morgan India Pvt Ltd are the book-running lead managers to the issue. The equity shares of the company will be listed on the BSE and NSE.

Mamaearth's parent firm Honasa Consumer IPO to open on Oct 31

Direct-to-consumer (D2C) skincare brand <keyword id="4548811" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="mamaearth" source="Orion">Mamaearth</keyword>, which posted a Rs 151 crore loss in FY23, is set to launch its initial public offering (IPO) on October 31. Honasa Consumer Pvt Ltd, the parent company of Mamaearth and other D2C brands such as The Derma Co and Aqualogica, is expected to raise Rs 10,500 crore in the IPO, reports Entrackr. The company will do a pre-IPO placement on October 30, with the public offering closing on November 2. Mamaearth intends to issue new shares for Rs 365 crore, coupled with an offer for sale (OFS) of 41.25 million shares, according to the company's red herring prospectus (RHP) filed with SEBI. The new proceeds are less than the Rs 400 crore suggested in the company's DRHP submitted in December last year, the report mentioned. MamaEarth co-founders <keyword id="4549709" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="varun-alagh" source="Orion">Varun Alagh</keyword> and Ghazal Alagh will sell a portion of their ownership in the company, while early investors such as Fireside Ventures, <keyword id="3537918" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="stellaris-venture-partners" source="Orion">Stellaris Venture Partners</keyword>, and Sofina will sell 7.97 million, 9.56 million, and 10.94 million shares during the IPO. Mamaearth's operating revenue increased significantly in FY23, reaching Rs 1,493 crore from Rs 943 crore the previous year. However, overall expenditure increased from Rs 942 crore to Rs 1,502 crore. Employee benefit costs increased by 109 per cent to Rs 1,649 crore, while other expenses increased by 50 per cent to Rs 8,584 crore. Mamaearth became India's first unicorn of 2022 after raising $52 million in a funding round led by <keyword id="17628694" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="peak-xv" source="Orion">Peak XV</keyword> Partners.

And a fourth of all the funds raised, and almost half of all the offer-for-sale capital landed in the coffers of private equity and venture capital firms. This is in addition to the large block deal action seen between August and September, especially in new-age companies. A total of ₹40,773 crore was raised by 46 mainboard public offers in 2023 up until the third week of November. Around half of it — ₹23,714 crore raised as offers-for-sale by promoters, existing investors and more. Even if they’re not a part of the offer-for-sale in an issue, being part of a public listed company frees-up their shares for block deals. “IPOs are a credible exit channel for VC/PE funds. Revival of the IPO market is certainly good news for the investors. Equally good news is the performance of some of the marquee tech stocks that have been listed on the stock market in the last few years,” Fazal Ahad, managing director at Merisis Advisors told Business Insider India. Thanks to the bull run of stock markets seen since August, there have been a lot of block deals by large PE/VC investors. In as many as 29 large block deals since September, Softbank, <keyword id="526777" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="tiger-global" source="Orion">Tiger Global</keyword>, Bain and TPG sold stakes in new-age internet companies like PB Fintech, Delhivery, Zomato and Paytm, as per data by Kotak Institutional Equities. According to IVCA-EY monthly PE/VC roundup, August 2023 saw exits to the tune of $4.3 billion across 37 deals in August 2023. And, open market exits accounting for 57% of all exits by value. The best is yet to come The buzz in the primary and secondary markets coupled with the exits they provide is a sign of maturity in the VC ecosystem, say experts. And there are more to come, as per Redseer. As many as 30 unicorns that are valued over $1 billion will become IPO-ready next year. For the smaller startups, there is the SME listing route who want to hit the markets at an earlier stage of their growth. “IPOs need to be valued right as public markets still look for profitable ventures, early profitability will enable startups to get exit through SME listings which has scaled up substantially in the last two years. This will take some time to evolve for startups,” said Manoj Agarwal, co-founder &amp; managing partner, SeaFund. The discipline of being a part of the listed universe also helps companies shrug off cash burn and move towards profitability. “Listed space gives rigour especially financial rigour to companies. This is something which the VCs like and now slowly but surely, there is acceptance in the IPO story of the startups,” says Bhaskar Majumdar, Managing Partner, Unicorn India Ventures. As more and more such companies are entering a state of maturity, FY25 will be a better year for serious large-scale exit gains, opines Agarwal. In the meanwhile, it’s open season for PE/VC investors who are looking to chart their exit strategy.
