Blockbuster films like KGF: Chapter 2, RRR, Bhool Bhulaiya 2 and Doctor Strange compelled audiences to step back into theatres between April and June. INOX, on Wednesday, reported its highest ever quarterly revenue, EBITDA and net profit since its inception two decades ago. PVR, which announced its <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/news/pvrs-q1-show-driven-by-pricier-tickets-and-blockbusters-like-kgf-2-rr-bhool-bhulaiya/articleshow/93027576.cms">quarterly results two weeks ago</a>, had also achieved the same milestones in the quarter ending June 30. However, PVR has managed to outperform INOX in the April-June quarter of 2022 with almost double the revenue. INOX’s revenue stood at ₹589 crore in the April to June quarter of 2022, representing an astronomical 22-fold jump from ₹26 crore revenue reported a year earlier. The company also managed to turn its year-ago quarter’s net loss of ₹101 crore into a profit of ₹74 crore for Q1 of FY2023. "You (industry) can imagine, with this kind of growth, how many opportunities will be available for the Indian industry," the Defence Minister said while addressing <keyword id="15812194" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="FICCIs-95th-Annual-Convention" source="Orion">FICCI's 95th Annual Convention</keyword> &amp; AGM here. He further underlined that to increase the participation of domestic industry, the government has reserved a certain portion of defence capital acquisition for domestic procurement. "Out of the total defence capital budget outlay, 68 per cent of it is reserved for indigenous procurement by domestic industry and 25 per cent for the private sector. The results of these have now started appearing and more measures will be announced soon," he emphasised. The government, he said, is also working to provide market access to the domestic industry to make them Aatmanirbhar. Singh said that in the last few years, there has been a continuous increase in defence exports. The government has already taken a series of steps including simplifying the FDI norms which have been increased to 74 per cent via automatic route and 100 per cent via government route, he added. The Defence Minister also urged the domestic industry and foreign Original Equipment Manufacturers to invest in Indian defence sector by focusing on R&amp;D, bringing in newer technologies and capital. He added that India is making defence products not just for the domestic market but also to meet the global requirements. "The world is waiting for the products made in India," he claimed. India has moved from the group of 'fragile 5' economies to 'fabulous 5 world economies' in the last nine years and registered itself as one of the fastest growing economies, the Defence Minister said on the occasion. Govt committed to achieving defence production target of $22 bn by 2025: Rajnath

Amazon India on Friday announced that its smart assistant Alexa that completed one year of its existence is now available on both Android and iOS smartphones in the country. The customers can now interact with Alexa in Hindi using the Alexa app on their mobile devices. "In an effort to make Alexa in Hindi more useful for customers, we have added over 60 new features in the past year. These include improvements such as asking Alexa to whisper, adjust how fast or slow she speaks, and new experiences such as asking Alexa for health-related information, Hindi definitions of words in English, Audible Suno and so on," Puneesh Kumar, Country Leader for Alexa, Amazon India, told IANS. Many users are also purchasing Amazon Echo devices for their parents as they are more comfortable to speak to the devices in Hindi. "We will continue to make Alexa interactions in Hindi even more seamless and conversational. It is still Day 1," Kumar added. Amazon has also added six new Alexa original songs and poems, along with 20 new stories in Hindi. Alexa now has a special message for all users in India. Just ask "Alexa, hamari dosti par poem sunao". Alexa can now understand 50 different ways to play a particular song in Hindi. The Alexa Speech Science team has used the latest advances in deep neural networks, multi-dialect training, and semi-supervised learning to reduce Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) errors by more than 40 per cent since the launch of Hindi last year. The company said that Alexa is now equipped with hundreds of new words from the Hindi vocabulary, and is also able to understand different ways in which customers can ask for the same information. "Users of the Alexa in Hindi have a unique taste in music. In addition to asking for Bollywood music, they are most likely to ask for devotional and spiritual songs. We also noticed increased requests for songs related to festive occasions such as Raksha Bandhan songs or Chhath Puja," Kumar told IANS. At the launch last year, Amazon had over 500 Hindi skills. Today, it has over 1,000 Hindi Skills, including Audible Suno, Ramayan Katha, Devotional Stories by Hungama, Shilpa Shetty Yoga, Jungle Safari, Kabir's Dohe, Rekhta, Hindi Jokes and so on. Legends connected with Bhai Dooj There are two highly interesting mythological stories that tell us the origin of Bhai Dooj. The first one is connected to Lord Krishna. It is said Shubadra, the sister of Lord Krishna invited Krishna in a loving and grand manner after he had defeated the demon Narakasur. She applied tilak in the forehead of Krishna as a mark of celebrating his victory, garlanded him and performed arati. Sisters invite them in a ritualistic way and apply tilak on their foreheads. Applying tilak and performing arati must be done during the right Muhurat to get the maximum benefits of the Bhai Dooj puja. Sisters also treat their brothers with a lot of sweets and delicious dishes. In essence and spirit, the theme of Bhai Dooj resembles that of Raksha Bandhan. Regional variations in Bhai Dooj celebrations In Bengal, Bhai Dooj is called as Bhai Phota and is celebrated by sisters by applying tilak to their brothers’ foreheads. They chant a special mantra during the ritual. In Haryana, the same ritual of tilak is performed and the sisters offer a dry coconut to their brothers tied with Kalawa thread during the arati.
