If media reports are to be believed, <keyword id="6355923" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Aamir-Khan">Aamir Khan</keyword>’s PK has earned a revenue of whopping $7.03 million. 
 
PK, which released last Friday at the Chinese theatres, was liked by the audience in China. 
 
 Amrita Pandey of UTV Motion Pictures, which co-produced the film along with Aamir Khan, Vidhu Vinod Chopra and <keyword id="6354633" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rajkumar-Hirani">Rajkumar Hirani</keyword>, told news agency IANS, "We are thrilled with the audience response in China. Aamir Khan, Rajkumar Hirani and Vidhu Vinod Chopra travelled across China with our marketing team promoting the film and culminated this with a grand premiere in Shanghai for the film." 
 
Aamir Khan's PK, which became the best performing Indian film abroad of all time has now crossed the Rs 200 crore milestone overseas. 
 
"It was such a warm reception for them in China and now the movie has become a talking point and opened to such phenomenal collections! This is a really proud moment for us, and we are happy to have made this impact in a new market," she added. 
 
When it was released in India and other countries in December last year, PK shattered records not just at home but also in Australia, New Zealand and Pakistan where it is the highest earning Indian film now. It is the highest grossing foreign language movie in <keyword id="6378080" type="COUNTRY" weightage="20" keywordseo="North-America">North America</keyword> of 2014, claims IANS report. 
 
The Chinese dubbed PK has opened in 4,600 screens across the country. This is the first time an Indian film has received such widest releases overseas. 
 
Aamir Khan, director Rajkumar Hirani and producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra had recently visited China to promote the film, which premiered in Shanghai on May 13.

Aamir Khan’s PK a big hit in China. Rakes in $7.03mn post its release in the country

<keyword id="6355923" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Aamir-Khan">Aamir Khan</keyword>’s much awaited film <keyword id="6396827" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="100" keywordseo="PK">pk</keyword>, directed by <keyword id="6354633" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Rajkumar-Hirani">Rajkumar Hirani</keyword>, is being looked forward to by everyone. Given the kind of work that both Khan and Hirani have done in their career, this project looks promising enough. 
 
The makers have not left any stone unturned in leveraging this curiosity, as evident from the zero knowledge that we seem to have about the character that Aamir is playing in the movie. Nobody knows if he is playing the role of an alien, a drunkard, or just a homeless man. 
 
The teaser of the movie was released yesterday, after 4 motion posters of the movie, one of which included the much talked still of sans-clothes Aamir, carrying only a transistor to save his modesty. 
 Coming to the teaser of the movie, which was released yesterday and has already crossed a million views on YouTube, the teaser carries the background voice of <keyword id="6357860" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Anushka-Sharma">Anushka Sharma</keyword>, who goes by the name of Jagat Janani in the movie. The teaser shows Aamir, sporting green contact lenses, and playing around with a childlike innocence on his face. <keyword id="1493204" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="sushant-singh-rajpoot">Sushant Singh Rajpoot</keyword>, Boman Irani, <keyword id="34155" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="saurabh-shukla">Saurabh Shukla</keyword>, and <keyword id="7645" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sanjay-Dutt">Sanjay Dutt</keyword> can also be seen in the teaser. 
 
From the looks of it, the movie promises entertainment and a social message, much like other projects that Hirani has done in the past. The acting looks convincing and there is not an iota of doubt that this movie will be a super hit. 
 
Seeing that Aamir’s last release, Dhoom 3, soared over Rs 530 crores, and is the only <keyword id="143" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bollywood">Bollywood</keyword> movie to have done that as of yet, we can easily predict a collection of Rs 300 crores for this movie.

The movie released in 2009 was a superhit starring Aamir Khan, Madhavan and Sharman Joshi and loosely based on Chetan Bhagat’s Five Point Someone. The survey conducted amongst 3,000 Hindi-film goers analyzed films released between January 1990 to September 2023. The report which picked the top 100 movies, is based on audience equity. Ormax believes that franchises have a long way to go in the Hindi film industry. “Franchise films have been a dominant force driving the growth and stability for Hollywood over the past two decades. The contribution of franchise films to the Hindi theatrical domestic box office has grown from a mere 17% in 2019 to 45% in 2023,” said Sanket Kulkarni, head of business development (theatrical), Ormax Media. Hollywood has made popular movie franchises be it Justice League, Marvel, Star Wars and more. It also has long-running franchises like Fast and the Furious as well as Scream. The Indian film industry has recently kickstarted the trend with the highly successful Bahubali series as well as KGF. The audience also picked popular franchises of Gadar, which recently had a second superhit sequel this year. Then there was also Dhoom where three movies have been made starring John Abraham, Hrithik Roshan and Aamir Khan as protagonists. They also picked Sunil Shetty, Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal starrer Hera Pheri, even as its sequel bombed at the box office. Surprisingly, none of Rohit Shetty’s action films with a cop universe like Singham and Simmba feature in the list. But Ajay Devgn’s Drishyam, which is an adaptation of a Malayalam movie of the same name, made the cut. The other movie that made the cut is Vicky Kaushal’s Uri: The Surgical Strike. “As the theatrical landscape increasingly leans toward event-driven films, choosing the right film to expand or initiate the franchise can go a long way in creating a powerful theatrical product,” said Kulkarni. Audiences want more sequels: SRK’s Pathaan, Jawan and Chak De hold the most franchise potential

Mumbai, Filmmaker Prashanth Neel says movies like his "<keyword id="6400922" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="kgf" source="Orion">KGF</keyword>" franchise that organically travel across the country do well, a phenomenon he hopes is repeated with his latest directorial "<keyword id="10367331" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="salaar" source="Orion">Salaar</keyword>: Part 1 - Ceasefire". Neel and Yash, the lead star of "KGF" series, rose to national prominence after the success of "KGF: Chapter 1", the 2018 Kannada period action film. Its 2022 follow-up, "KGF: Chapter 2" also starred Bollywood actors Raveena Tandon and Sanjay Dutt in key roles. The director, who made his debut with 2014's "Ugramm", said he never plans his films as pan-India projects. "I've written a story and I've executed it. I don't know if it ('Salaar') is going to be a pan-India movie or not. But if it becomes a pan-India movie, then that's an absolute bonus for all of us. Like, 'KGF' happened very organically. "Movies that happen organically always do well. You can't plan to make a pan-India movie, you can't plan and say that I'm going to bring these actors from this industry to make it a pan-India movie. It doesn't work like that," Neel told PTI in an interview here. "Salaar" revolves around two friends Deva and Vardha, played by <keyword id="104063" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="prabhas" source="Orion">Prabhas</keyword> and <keyword id="572189" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="prithviraj-sukumaran" source="Orion">Prithviraj Sukumaran</keyword>, who end up becoming arch rivals. It will be released on Friday. The 43-year-old director said the journey of the film started over 15 years ago. "It was an idea that was in my head. But it needed a very big budget. So, I made my first film 'Ugramm', then I made 'KGF'. I was occupied with 'KGF' for almost eight years. During COVID-19, I narrated this subject ('Salaar') to Prabhas sir and he agreed to do it," he recalled. The USP of "Salaar" is an emotion between two friends and how this emotion translates to violence forms the core of the story, Neel said. According to the director, equal importance should be given to the story and the characters in big-budget films. "We make a movie to tell a story and we want the right characters, right actors to portray every role. There's a commercial aspect with a star and we get bigger budgets to do what we want. But the criteria is the same that this is the character, it is not the hero who is playing the hero because if we think like that then we have lost the battle," he added. With "Salaar", Neel said his aim was for Prabhas ("Baahubali") to shed his superstar persona. "There was never a pressure to make 'Salaar'. The idea is to make sure that the actor looks like a character. You don't want to show Prabhas as Prabhas, you want to show him as a character and I tried our best to do something like that," he said. While the director acknowledged that Prabhas has had a difficult run at the box office with his recent releases "Adipurush" and "Radhe Shyam", he said a star can always bounce back after a hit film. "Prabhas is a big star. After 'Baahubali', he became the biggest star. People are not going to forget something like that. Stars have always been stars; they can have one flop or 20 flops, they just need to give one hit. Recently, <keyword id="1671" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="shah-rukh-khan" source="Orion">Shah Rukh Khan</keyword> showed us that a star is always a star, there's no denying that," Neel added. A box office showdown is expected between "Salaar" and Rajkumar Hirani's "Dunki". The latter, starring Shah Rukh Khan, will hit the screens a day before "Salaar" on Thursday. About the release, Neel said he doesn't meddle in the business aspect of a movie. "I don't get involved in the logistics of what happens after the movie is ready. My brief is I've to make a movie on a given budget and I've to give it to them at a time that they want to release," he said. The filmmaker said he has utmost respect for Hirani and Shah Rukh. "I loved whatever they put out (referring to assets of 'Dunki'). People always want to see the most human thing in any trailer or teaser, so we try to do that. Even in the larger-than-life movies we try to do that." Produced by Hombale Films, "Salaar" also stars Shruti Haasan, Eshwari Rao, Jagapathi Babu and Sriya Reddy.

Stars are always stars, says Salaar director on Prabhas' recent box office run

Mumbai, First part of Prabhas-led action film series "<keyword id="10367331" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="salaar" source="Orion">Salaar</keyword>" will hit the theatres on December 22, the makers announced Friday, setting up stage for a <keyword id="25892" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="box-office" source="Orion">box office</keyword> clash with superstar Shah Rukh Khan's "<keyword id="13651161" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="dunki" source="Orion">Dunki</keyword>" releasing on the same day. Producer Hombale Films shared the release date of the much-anticipated film, titled '"Salaar Part 1: Ceasefire", on the banner's official page on X. "#SalaarCeaseFire Worldwide Release On Dec 22, 2023," the post read. The movie was originally scheduled to premiere on September 28 but earlier this month the release was pushed by the makers due to "unforseen circumstances". The first part of the pan-India film series is billed as a big-budget action adventure. It is directed by Prashanth Neel of the "KGF" franchise fame and produced by Vijay Kiragandur. The film will also feature Prithviraj Sukumaran, Shruti Haasan, Eshwari Rao, Jagapathi Babu and Sriya Reddy. "Dunki" is directed by Rajkumar Hirani from a script he co-wrote with Abhijaat Joshi and Kanika Dhillon. The film will be Shah Rukh's third release of 2023 after "Pathaan" and "Jawan". Both the films have crossed Rs 1000 crore mark at the global box office.

Shah Rukh Khan tops IMDb's list of most popular Indian stars of 2023

Mumbai, Renowned film art director <keyword id="194218" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="nitin-desai" source="Orion">Nitin Desai</keyword>, who created sets for blockbuster films such as "Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam" and "Lagaan", was found hanging on Wednesday at his studio in Maharashtra's Raigad district neighbouring Mumbai, a senior police official said. Prima facie, it seems to be a case of suicide, the official said, adding they are investigating the case from all angles. "Desai's body was found hanging with a rope in the morning at the N D Studios," Raigad Superintendent of Police Somnath Gharge said. The studio is located in the Karjat area of Raigad, about 50 km from Mumbai. After being alerted, police rushed to the spot, the official said. The police are investigating the case from all possible angles, Gharge said. Desai, who was in his late 50s, served as art director and production designer for a number of Bollywood and Marathi movies. He was also known for his art work in films such as "Jodhaa Akbar" and "Prem Ratan Dhan Payo". The art director's death sent shock waves across the industry with film personalities such as Hema Malini, Riteish Deshmukh, Siddhartha Basu, and Neil Nitin Mukesh mourning Desai's passing. Actor-politician Hema Malini said Desai's death was a "terrible loss" to the film industry. "Such a warm human being, associated with many of my projects and ballets... May he find peace wherever he is," she tweeted. Neil said it is difficult to accept the heartbreaking news of Desai's death. The late art director worked on "Jail", the 2009 film starring the actor. "Our beloved #nitindesai has left for his heavenly abode. He was simply a genius. A visionary artist with grace, style who understood not just his craft but people. He was a positive soul who spread only love to all. My God give his family strength. Om Shanti," he wrote on the microblogging site. Jawan also stars Vijay Sethupathi, Sanya Malhotra, and Nayanthara. As of now, there is no confirmation on who will play Khan’s romantic lead in the film. However, certain reports state that Khan may have a double role in the film - which opens up the possibility of both Nayanthara and Malhotra being Khan’s co-leads.
