The consecration rituals for the 'Pran Pratishtha' started from the Saryu river on January 16 and will be completed on Monday afternoon on the 'Abhijeet Muhurta', according to the trust. Lakhs of people are expected to watch the event live on TV and online platforms as the Central government has announced a half-day off on January 22 and many states followed suit. Temples across the country have announced special festivities on the occasion. From Washington DC to Paris to Sydney, events have been also planned in various parts of the world by either the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) or Hindu diaspora groups. Fourteen couples from various parts of India will be the 'yajmaans' (hosts) for the 'Pran Pratishtha' of the new 51-inch idol of Ram Lalla. A multi-layer security cover is in place in Ayodhya for the consecration ceremony, with 10,000 CCTV cameras and drones equipped with artificial intelligence keeping an eye on the movement of people. Police personnel in plain clothes have been deployed at the venue. Movable barriers with barbed wires attached to them can be spotted at every prominent crossroads in the temple town, as police use them to regulate traffic, especially during VVIP movements. Multiple NDRF teams trained to tackle chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear attacks, drowning incidents and disasters like earthquakes have also been deployed. While more than 7,000 people are on the list of invitees for the event, the select list features 506 A-listers. Business tycoons Mukesh Ambani and Gautam Adani are among the prominent people invited to the event. Those attending the "Pran Prathishtha" also include people linked to the Ram Janmabhoomi agitation. The 99-year-old seer -- perhaps the oldest surviving Shankaracharya, passed away following prolonged illness. As per the information, the seer breathed last at around 3.30 p.m. after a mild heart attack at the Jhoteshwar Paramhansi Ganga Ashram. Just a few days ago, the seer had celebrated his 99th birthday on the occasion of Hartalika Teej. Narsinghpur MLA and former MP Vidhan Sabha Speaker N.P. Prajapati (who is among the Shankaracharya's disciples), informed that his Samadhi (symbolic funeral) will take place at 4 p.m. on Monday near the hillside Ashram in the same Narsinghpur district. Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati was born at a village known as Dighori in Seoni district in Madhya Pradesh in 1924. He was born in a Brahmin family and his childhood name was Potiram Upadhyay. He had left home when aged just nine years only in pursuit of god. He was a direct disciple of Shankaracharya Brahmananda Saraswati of Jyotir Math and of Shankaracharya (disputed) Krishnabodha Ashrama of Jyotirmath. In 1950, his Guru Brahmananda made him a Dandi Sanyasi. He became the president of Akhil Bhartiya Ram Rajya Parishad established by Swami Karpatriji. On Krishnabodha Ashrama's demise in 1973, the title of Shankaracharya (disputed) of Jyotir Math, Badrinath passed to Swami Swaroopanand. Nine years later in 1982, he also became the Shankaracharya of Dwarka Peeth. When aged just 18, he had become a part of the country's freedom movement and was known as "Revolutionary Sadhu" for taking part in the 1942 Quit India Movement. He was jailed for it and served a prison sentence for around a year and half. He not only was a veteran Hindu seer, but also held strong opinion on host of other issues, spanning from Ganga pollution, Uniform Civil Code, Abrogation of Article 370 of Indian Constitution, cow and bull slaughter, women worshipping Shani, on Shirdi Sai Baba and on the RSS and coming to power of the Narendra Modi-led BJP in the 2014 general elections. He had also claimed that the Bhoomi Pujan of the proposed Ram Temple in Ayodhya by <keyword id="2238662" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="pm-modi" source="Orion">PM Modi</keyword> on August 5, 2020 was done in an inauspicious muhurt. He had countless disciples spread all over the country, including key politicians, among them former MP CM Digvijaya Singh. Hindu seer Shankaracharya Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati is no more

The bastards are at it again. The teenagers who killed the French priest, and the suicide bomber who attacked Germany, are ardent ass-kissers of <keyword id="174501" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="ISIS">ISIS</keyword>. So I have a little message for them and the likes of them. Before that, here' a blast from the past - a rite of passage you have to endure for the conclusion to fit right into your pocket.

What you are about to read does not have the blessings of God. He has made it clear that I am on my own on this one. He thinks I am crossing the line. So be it. 
 
This time, I want to be the judge of it. Not him.

I am standing with my wife in a large playground. There are a thousand others. The Good Friday's service is in session. Veneration will soon follow. Hymns are being sung. Wife is mouthing the lyrics. I just stand solemn. By birth - she is an ardent Catholic, and am a liberal Hindu. 
 
The tempo picks up in the air. So many people at once. All dressed up. Prim and proper. 
 
The weather is wealthy. Perfect for the open-air setting. My arms are ambushed by a dense army of goosebumps. I surrender. 
 
There is promise in the atmosphere. Veneration commences. 
 
In the distant background, as we are entranced in the gospels, I hear the maghrib (after sunset prayer) from a mosque that is five buildings away from the playground we are in. 
 
Few notice. Rest ignore. 
 
I wonder – it is just one day, can't the Muslims leave it alone today! Dedicate the day to Christ? 
 
The breeze romances the trees. 
 
In a couple of seconds, from the far end of the street, bells from a Murugan temple start composing their rhythmic charm. It is Panguni Uthiram. A day on which Sri Deivanai married Lord Murugan. 
 
Man, this is not cool. 
 
I apologise to Jesus on behalf of the mosque and the temple. 
 
He sacrifices his life for the people, and he can't get a moment to himself? 
 
Is the mosque doing this on purpose? It is impossible for them to have been oblivious of the fact that today is Good Friday. 
 
What about the temple? Why are they playing foul! 
 
I shut up and listen. It starts to grow on me. The collaboration. Hymns here. Alla-hoo Akbar in this corner. Murgunakku Haro Hara in that corner.

The first thing I do is hate the mosque and the temple. If you ask me, Jesus deserved the full day to himself. 
 
In the playground, I see this kid running away from his mother's lap. He stumbles on a chair and falls on his face. The mother runs to his rescue. The kid is not crying. The mother pats his knees and wipes his face. She tells him that he is okay. He acknowledges. He is not a fussy kid. 
 
That is all the kid needed. He needed to be told that he is okay. 
 
I think that is what they are doing. The mosque and the temple. Telling Jesus that they are with him. An act of compassion. Standing by him. Holding his hands. 
 
I can only think of two options: 
 
First, neither the mosque nor the temple has any regard for its brother from another mother, despite sharing the same confederacy. 
 
Second, they feel for Jesus. That is their way of showing compassion. Besides, how else will they? These guys are super awkward socially, and they never show up in person anyway. They might as well use their proprietary branch offices to send a message to the man who was crossed today 1,980+ years ago. 
 
By all means, I will go with the second option. Sounds legitimate. Appropriate. Too candid to plead coincidence.

They are all with each other, for each other. How do you know that the all three of them are not playing scrabble high over our heads right now? I am sure if you looked up right now you won't see them. Invisibility is their speciality. 
 
None of them hate each other. They are all celebrities in their own leagues. Think about it. If any one God was greater than the other, do you think he would allow the other newer or older God/s to evolve/survive? To be birthed in the first place? The way I see it, everything is God. Everything under the Sun is born and dead out of its own situation and discretion. It is not right to meddle with this sacred order. 
 
Despite their prophecy being solid, how come the Jews denied the claims of Jesus? How come who they refused to accept went on to change the face of the calendar for mankind? If Jesus was the ultimate son of God, how was prophet Mohammed allowed to jump into the picture? 
 
Religion is purely an art form. Each with its own structure, style, subject, and configuration. Each religion comes with its own painting. All subject to interpretation. Every picture is engineered with a special stroke, colour, depth, ambience, motive, and imagination. Regardless of their origin, form, or appeal, they share one common attribute - the quality of being unique.

As per official data, Canada is an attractive destination for Indians, especially students. A major chunk of them are from Punjab, Haryana, Gujarat and Delhi. "We have been much concerned about the well being of both my children who are studying in Canada since the escalation of tension in diplomatic relations between India and Canada after the murder accusation," Ramesh Uppal, a resident of Ludhiana, told IANS. He said he said advised the children not to go out alone, take precautions and keep a low profile "as they can be considered soft targets". On Wednesday, the Indian government issued an updated travel advisory urging its citizens travelling in Canada and especially those studying there to be cautious because of the "growing anti-India activities and politically condoned hate-crimes". Indians should also avoid going to venues in Canada where "threats have particularly targeted Indian diplomats and sections of the Indian community who oppose anti-India agenda," the ministry said. As per the data from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), Canada issued study permits to 551,405 international students from 184 countries, in 2022, an increase of 24 per cent over 2021, in what Canadian immigration described as a "record-breaking year" for visa applications. Out of the total international students, 41 per cent (226,450) are Indian students, a majority from cash-rich Punjab, up from 169,460 the previous year. As per estimates, there were 807,750 study permit holders in Canada last December, over 190,000 more than in 2021, against Canada's target of 450,000 foreign students by 2022 set out in the country's 2014 international education strategy. Upon graduation, a foreign student may apply for a work permit under the Post-Graduation Work Permit Program. Under this program, the work permit may be issued for the length of the study program, up to a maximum of three years. In a video message, Chandra said Canada has high moral values and "we fully uphold the rule of law". "I can't understand how glorification of terrorism or a hate crime targeting a religious group is allowed in the name of freedom of speech and expression," he said, adding "Hindu Canadians keep a low profile and are considered soft targets." Responding to a question on fear among students in Canada, Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi on Thursday said they have issued an advisory to take precautions. I have been flooded with calls and messages from Punjabis in Canada and their families and relatives back home, seeking the Akali Dal's intervention to ensure safe and smooth travel to their homeland." Realising the gravity of the situation, the Shiromani Akali Dal urged the two countries' governments to find a solution to the matter at the earliest. Private agency, BLS, hired for initial scrutiny of visa applications of Canadians, posted a note on its website, saying, "Due to operational reasons, with effect from 21 September 2023, Indian visa services have been suspended till further notice. Please keep checking the BLS website for further updates." The diplomatic relationship between India and Canada soured over the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in June.

Suddenly, a gun is held to his temple and fired. Moments later, two men with handguns can be seen shooting into the bodies as they lie on the road. The shooting happened when Ahmed was briefly released from prison — in handcuffs — for a medical checkup. A police officer Ramit Sharma said the three attackers came on motorcycles posing as journalists."They managed to reach close to Atiq and his brother on the pretext of recording a byte and fired at them from close range. Both sustained bullet injuries on the head. Apologising for unintentionally hurting sentiments, restaurant aggregator <keyword id="830092" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="zomato" source="Orion">Zomato</keyword> on Thursday withdrew an ad after it came under fire for depicting the actor who played the Dalit character <keyword id="1339390" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="kachra" source="Orion">Kachra</keyword> in the film "<keyword id="20409" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="lagaan" source="Orion">Lagaan</keyword>" as items made of recycled waste. The ad, which draws a link between the character Kachra with 'kachra', the Hindi word for garbage, was aired on World Environment Day on June 5. As ire grew and the ad came under attack on social media for being casteist, the company issued an apology from its official Twitter handle and said the intent was to "spread awareness about the potential of plastic waste and benefits of recycling in a humorous way". "Unintentionally, we may have hurt the sentiments of certain communities and individuals. We have taken down the video," it said. The ad, aiming to show the food delivery company's recycling efforts, was termed "disgusting", "blatantly casteist", and "extremely insensitive" by netizens on Twitter. "Masaan" director <keyword id="1005369" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="neeraj-ghaywan" source="Orion">Neeraj Ghaywan</keyword>, filmmaker Madhurita Anand and Dalit historian Karunyakara Lella were among those who spoke out. Discussing the controversial ad campaign, communications strategy consultant Karthik Srinivasan said Zomato did not think adequately about making the character perform "seemingly dehumanising and menial tasks". "There's a context to Kachra's character in 'Lagaan', and within the larger spectrum of commercial entertainment in India, on how castes are portrayed, and how Dalits, in particular, are portrayed or stereotyped. "Coming from that angle, to see the character perform seemingly dehumanising and menial tasks -- even if he is performing them figuratively, as 'waste' and not his Lagaan character per se -- made the ad seem very awkward," Srinivasan told PTI. He added that Zomato attempted to mine a "kind of sly humour" from the name for waste upcycling/recycling. The video was slammed online for its seemingly casteist overtones. "#Kachra from #Lagaan was one of the most dehumanised voiceless depictions of Dalits ever in cinema. @zomato has used the same character and made a repulsive #casteist commercial. A human stool? Are you serious? Extremely insensitive," Ghaywan wrote on Twitter. Filmmaker Madhurita Anand wrote in reply to Ghaywan's tweet: "That is just so offensive. One has to wonder who these people are who created the advert, approved it and put it online without once thinking about it." Dalit historian and writer Karunyakara Lella also hit out at Zomato for its "Dalit phobic" advertisement. "Why #Zomato is insensitive to Dalit sentiments? Why it takes liberty to hurt Dalit life by humiliating Dalit Identity? #BoycottZomato for #DalitPhobic #casteracist advertisement," Lella wrote. Another Twitter user, Sana Satpathy, said Zomato is "beyond disgusting" and its marketing head should be fired immediately. She used the hashtag #BoycottZomato and called for a public apology. The food delivery company has found itself on the wrong side of marketing in the past as well. In 2017, an outdoor ad campaign in major cities including Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru showed Hindi expletives "MC, BC" as abbreviations for mac n' cheese and butter chicken. The company later withdrew the ad after backlash on social media. In 2022, Zomato pulled down an advertisement featuring actor Hrithik Roshan who was shown to be craving for a "thali" (food platter) in Ujjain so he ordered it from "Mahakal". Priests of the famous Mahakaleshwar temple in Madhya Pradesh objected, claiming that it offended Hindu sentiments and demanded its withdrawal. Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra had issued directives to the police to look into the controversy. The company later apologised clarifying that the "Mahakal" reference was for a restaurant and not the temple. The character Kachra in "Lagaan" is a polio-affected Dalit. When Aamir Khan's character Bhuvan insists on adding him to the cricket team - the central theme of the film -- after spotting his spinning skills, upper caste members openly reject the idea as he is an "untouchable". Zomato takes down ad depicting 'Lagaan' character Kachra as recycled waste items

In his last verdict before retirement, judge Surendra Kumar Yadav said, “The demolition was not pre-planned.” According to him, the people named in the chargesheet weren’t trying to incite the mob but to <a href="https://twitter.com/LiveLawIndia/status/1311201954371166208">stop them</a>. “Court found that the video was fabricated. Investigative team did not produce negatives of the picture,” said advocate KK Misra after the verdict was announced. Yadav also highlighted that a local intelligence report had cautioned that such an event might take place on December 6 but it went unheeded by those concerned. Only 26 of the 32 accused were in court today. Some were excused due to age and others due to COVID-19 restrictions like Uma Bharti, who had recently tested positive for the disease. Overall 49 people were named as the accused in the FIR lodged by the CBI. However, 17 individuals died during the course of the 28-year-long trial. What is the Babri Masjid demolition case? The mosque was demolished on 6 December 1992 by a mob that believed that it had been built on top of Hindu deity Lord Ram’s birth place. However, the demolition was only the first of the dominoes to fall. Religiously motivated riots followed and led to death of around 2,000 people. Main crux of the matter, the demolition itself, was settled by the Supreme Court in 2019. It ruled in favour of erecting the Ram Janmabhoomi Temple at the location and allocating a different site for the mosque to be rebuilt. What was still hanging in the balance were the two FIRs filed by the police in 1992. Additionally, forty-seven more FIRs were filed for attacks on journalists on the day of the demolition. Of the two FIRs filed by the police, one was against lakhs of volunteers who were seen climbing the mosques with hammers and axes in hand. And the second one was against eight people — Advani, Joshi, Bharti, BJP’s Vinay Katiyar, Vishwa Hindu Parishad’s Ashok Singhal, Giriraj Kishore, Vishnu Hari Dalmia and Sadhvi Rithambhara. Dalmia, Kishore and Singhal have since passed away. Babri Masjid demolition case: CBI Special Court acquits all accused, judge says ‘demolition was not pre-planned’

The accusations erupted when a resolution, co-sponsored by Pakistan, was presented in the UNGA, condemning damage and destruction to religious sites. Pakistan's contention on the resolution was with reference to the demolition of the <keyword id="43572" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Babri-Masjid">Babri Masjid</keyword> in India. India's assertion against Pakistan on burning down of a Hindu shrine in Khyber Pukhtunkhwa's Karak district, Islamabad termed it "unwarranted assertions", stating that "India should set its own house in order rather than feigning concerns for minority rights elsewhere". "This is not the first time India has tried to feign concern for minority rights elsewhere while being the most egregious and persistent violator of minority rights itself," said Zulqarnain Cheema, the Pakistani delegate at the UNGA. On the other hand, India's representative raised serious questions over Islamabad being the co-sponsor of the resolution. "It was ironic that Pakistan was one of the co-sponsors of the resolution. The attack on the Karak shrine was carried out with the explicit support of law enforcement agencies," said the Indian representative. "The resolution cannot be smokescreen or countries like Pakistan to hide behind," he added. The Pakistani delegate responded by stating that "the clear difference between India and Pakistan with respect to minority rights can be gauged from the fact that the accused in Karak incident were immediately arrested, orders were issued for repairing of temple, the highest level of judiciary took immediate notice, and senior political leadership condemned the incident". "Whereas in India, blatant acts of discrimination against Muslims and other minorities takes place with state complicity," he said. "As a perennial of state-sponsored discrimination against its minorities, India is in no position to pontificate on the issue of minority rights elsewhere," he added. Islamabad's Permanent Representative to the UN, Munir Akram expressed satisfaction over the adoption of resolution at the UNGA, stating "Pakistan will continue to play a leading role in denouncing violent attacks on religious sites". "I am happy that the UN General Assembly today adopted by consensus a resolution ï¿½ sponsored by &amp; other OIC countries ï¿½ on the protection of religious sites.
