This facility, which will be built over a million square feet area, can create close to 24,000 <keyword id="11018" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jobs">jobs</keyword> in the state, Triton EV and Telangana government said. Triton EV is planning to invest about $1.5 billion in this manufacturing facility over the next five years, the company said in the statement. The first tranche -- $300 million -- will be infused in the upcoming months. Triton EV’s Chairperson and Managing Director <keyword id="192817" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Himanshu-Patel">Himanshu Patel</keyword> has claimed that they already have $2.2 billion worth of purchase orders from India. Telangana government, too, has given an order of 3000 EVs to Triton. “We are excited to know about Triton EV’s expertise and vision for the EV market… Industrial policy of the state which is proactively crafted towards fast process driven decision making and action towards bringing new investments in the state,” Kalvakuntla Taraka Rama Rao (also known as KTR), Telangana's minister for Municipal Administration &amp; Urban Development, Industries &amp; Commerce, and IT said on the occasion. The manufacturing facility will produce Triton EVs not only for the Indian market, but also for Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal and the entire Middle East region. Tesla’s rival Triton to create 24,000 jobs in Telangana with new electric vehicle factory

The company's first car in India is set to be launched while plans for another are underway and a market debut is on the cards. In an exclusive conversation with Business Insider, Himanshu Patel, founder of Triton EV, said that the company is in discussions to list in the US. Pre-booking for Triton Model H, its first model in the country, will start from May 10. The Model H is called a ‘Super SUV’ by Patel, and is an 8-seater car. It can go upto 700 miles on a single charge. The company claims it has 1,500 horsepower generated by four wheel-attached motors, and has an acceleration of 0-60 mph in 2.9 seconds. <div type="image" title="Triton Model H." msid="82398835" hostid="261"></div> In the US, where the car was launched last March, Model H costs $140,000. But Patel promises it will be cheaper in India. “But the Model H we are launching in India, is a vehicle made in India. It won’t be directly [sic] that price point, it will definitely be less than what it costs in the US,” he said. Triton has a manufacturing facility in Pune, where it has a manufacturing capacity of 100 cars in five-six months “We will start pre booking for 1000 cars but we will deliver 100 immediately,” he said. With the Model H, Patel is competing with the likes of Audi, Mercedes and more, he said. “We have built a car that suits India instead of just making another car,” said Patel. The car comes with a solar panelled roof, which offsets the air conditioner usage as well, which is a great advantage, as per Patel, for Indians who have to wait for hours in traffic at times. But the Model H isn’t where they stop. Patel is accelerating his plans for the India market, where Elon Musk’s Tesla is also set to debut, this year. Triton has plans to launch their N4 model later this year, which will rival the likes of Toyota, Nissan and others. They are also in talks with various entities for supply of armoured vehicles, making use of their one-way glass bullet proof technology. And for all of this, Triton is pumping $1.2 billion into India over the next five years. Outside of the US, India will be the company’s first manufacturing hub. The model is based on hyper-local advertising and also takes into account user preferences - this combination is scalable to quite a large extent. 
 
“We are looking at markets with high level of online and omni-channel penetration, the online channel contributes a maximum of 15 percent to the retail market. As India’s retail market is geared to scale up from $650 million to $1 trillion by 2020, the opportunity is great for all types of players in the retail industry,” Zarine told Business Insider on expansion plan.

Much like the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Reliance-Jio-vs-Telecom-Industry-Jios-Battle-of-Supremacy-so-Far/articleshow/53875879.cms">launch of Reliance Jio’s</a> telecom and internet services, <keyword id="2003276" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jio">Jio</keyword>’s newly announced ‘smartish’ feature phone too is finding its way to the middle of a controversy. This time around the debate is whether the <keyword id="4289270" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="jio-phone">Jio phone</keyword> violates the principles of Net Neutrality. At this point it’s important to mention that not all details of the new Jio Phone are out yet. However, sources in the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (<keyword id="6356988" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="TRAI">TRAI</keyword>) say that, looking at the available details so far, the Jio phone does not violate the principles of Net Neutrality. The Net Neutrality debate saw its peek in India with Facebook's Free Basics and <keyword id="15491" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Airtel">Airtel</keyword>'s Zero rating offerings both were shut down by TRAI stating they went against the principles of Net neutrality but Jio phone, as of now, seems to be in the clear. 
 The issue got triggered when India’s third largest telecom operator, Idea, recently commented on how the new Jio phone raise concerns about net neutrality, “It will not allow most of the apps which a customer prefers and the choice of apps may not work because it is forcing consumers to use an individual operator’s apps,” <keyword id="510299" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Himanshu-Kapania">Himanshu Kapania</keyword>, the managing director of Idea Cellular had said. Kapania also talked about working with handset makers to launch a new phone to counter Jio, targeting the 2G consumers in India. The company says even if the phone cannot compete with Jio’s pricing it will offer customers the freedom of choice. 
 
Telecom Analyst (doesn’t wish to be named) believes that the consumer has a choice and that nothing can be fully neutral. Consumer has other means/devices for accessing the internet. There are plenty of alternative devices available in the market which he can fall back to (India being predominantly an open market for devices, alternatives will be many). If an operator steers the consumer to its own content by offering a device, it does not seem to violate the principles of "Net Neutrality" as laid out by the TRAI.” 
 TRAI seems to agree with this. Jio has talked about how the Jio phone will come packed with entire set of Jio apps but it’s still unclear if non-Jio apps will find a place in the Jio phone. TRAI believes that if <keyword id="10926" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Reliance">Reliance</keyword> is providing its services in its intranet then by providing their apps to the consumers, Jio is not doing anything wrong. Source also indicates that consumers will be aware about the product and they can choose not to buy it. TRAI says if Jio is not blocking any particular site then merely providing additional apps with its product do not violate the principles of Net Neutrality. TRAI will be looking into Jio Phone in detail once the company submits its tariff for the new plan/phone to TRAI. 
 
Well with the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Jio-phone-to-be-a-single-sim-feature-phone-and-existing-customers-can-shift-to-it/articleshow/59776367.cms">launch of the Jio Phone</a>, the company has managed to pique our interest but not without setting off yet another controversy. However, TRAI's Feb 8th order of 2016 prevents an operator to offer differentiated rates for accessing different content (by the operator tying up with a content player), but it has not prevented an operator from offering its own content in its intranet at a differentiated rate or even free. While we are still waiting for details that could either douse the ‘controversy’ fire or add fuel to it, it would be fair to say that the proposed phone by Jio will appeal to the predominantly voice usage customers BUT it will be extremely important to see how exactly Jio is planning to cater to consumers wanting to browse the Internet.

TRAI sources: Free Basics was a problem, Zero Rating was a problem, Jio Phone is not a problem

The hope has stemmed from the fact that a big chunk of its data customers has already come back after Jio started charging its services. Monthly fees would be anything between Rs. 30-35k a month, while the daily rate is tentatively fixed at a costlier 2.5k. 
 
Going forward, Bindal is planning to expand his services into incubation as well. “One Cubate will be our own incubation programme. We’ll accept applications for our first batch from October this year. We’ll charge 6-7% equity for the knowledge, including funding.” he said. 
 
Bindal reveals he’s also working on an ‘Exchange Club’, a service where VCs can offer to sponsor startup seats in exchange of equity. The tentative rate is Rs. 5-10 lakhs against 3-4% equity. VCs can also offer to exchange equity against mentoring sessions. 
 
The good news is that while India is still waiting for its Apple or Google, when we have our very own Steve Jobs, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, they’ll have a fun story to tell, one where the lingering smell in their first office was of room freshner and not bike grease.

It was a hot afternoon in Delhi’s <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Connaught+Place&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Connaught Place</a>. The last flight of stairs led me to <keyword id="3148540" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="40" keywordseo="FLYPMTV">Flyp@MTV</keyword>. 
 
A well-known café among the city’s party crowd, they now have a separate section for <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=co-working&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">co-working</a>. 
 
I walk up to a young couple huddled in a corner. They’re a budding design and marketing firm called Enqodle. “We’ve been in the industry since the last 5 years. This is our Business Centre. The back-end team sits out of Janakpuri. We worked out of <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Starbucks&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Starbucks</a> for a while, but how long can you sit! Beyond 3 hours, you have to order something”, co-founder Kapil Gupta says. 
 Places like <keyword id="2593251" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="40" keywordseo="Social-Offline">Social Offline</keyword> and Flyp@MTV were regular cafes with upto 50% seats lying unused during the day. Now these cafe-cum-coworking hubs transform into full-blown bars only post 6 pm. Till then, you can work out of here for a fee of 5,000 bucks a month. 
 
For that you get quite a lot, mind. Unlimited free tea/coffee, free web hosting, some discount vouchers, IT support and 15% discount on legal services. Throw in some free mentorship and networking sessions, and even the hustler generation can’t bargain for more. Did we mention the monthly fee is redeemable on food and drinks? 
 
Yeah, that. 
 
Kapil’s co-founder Swati accepts there are some challenges. “Getting our parents to understand we’re working out of a cafe is a task. The general perception of a café is that it’s pure chaos. It only gets a bit loud post 6 pm”, she smiles. 
 Most don’t seem to mind the music. <keyword id="3260254" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="One-Internet">One Internet</keyword> co-founder <keyword id="201692" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Himanshu-Bindal">Himanshu Bindal</keyword> says this is maximum bang for the buck. “A <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Starbucks&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Starbucks</a> coffee costs Rs. 300, and you can sit for up to 4 hours. At One Internet co-working, you pay Rs. 350 a day (via monthly plan) for better internet, 24*7 access and a full-fledged office”, he argues. 
 Even in <keyword id="3506414" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="co-working-cafes">co-working cafes</keyword> like MTV Flyp, you can walk in and pay Rs. 450 for a day. Have anything from the menu and you can redeem that amount as well. 
 
Next up, a three member team peering at their Macbook screens. They’re part of the India edition of Singapore-based Techseen. “We are the first team to work out of here. It’s been about 3 months now. Most offices today are shifting out of Delhi into Gurgaon and Noida. If they can offer space for 8-10 people, we’d love to sit out of here even as we expand”, Assistant Editor Abhinav Mohapatra says. 
 
My last catch is an unlikely startup pair. Delhiite Rahul Kakkad and his Pune-based Aeronautical engineer co-founder. The duo happened to live in the same apartment complex, and decided to partner for an alcoholic beverages information portal. How convenient to work out of a bar-cum-cafe. 
 
“We come by noon, and leave by six. A typical office space makes little sense for us. We meet new people every day. Also, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Starbucks&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Starbucks</a> doesn’t have a smoking area”, Kakkad smiles. 
 
Being in a central location, the only downside is high real-estate costs. After all, it's the rentals that decide the economics. Bindal says he’s making good money. This is after paying Rs. 6 lacs as rent. “We broke even in the first 3 months. We’re investing heavily on resources now. In this business, profitability depends on how many centres you have. We’re planning to launches centres in Gurgaon and Noida soon”, he says. 
 
His company is also planning to have co-working centres in Bengaluru (Koramangala/LSR Layout/Indiranagar) and Mumbai (Andheri/Juhu) in the next two months. 
 
As evening fell, the live band started jamming. Bass shook the floor. I knew it was time to get out. The bustling co-working crowd seemed at ease though, puffing their hookahs and gorging spicy kebabs. 
 
There’s no stopping this ‘work hard, party hard’ generation. After all, why leave work for party when you can work where the party is.

Delhi’s Cafes are turning into work-spaces for India’s Startup hustlers

The most coveted film awards in India, the <keyword id="6429912" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="National-Film-Awards">National Film Awards</keyword>, were announced today for movies released in 2015, at the National Media Centre, New Delhi. The panel, headed by film director Ramesh Sippy, handed over the list to Information and Broadcast Minister Arun Jaitley.

Aspiring Minds, Gurgaon based job credentialing platform partners with Ringier Tanzania; expands its services to Africa

The data services in the National Capital region are already becoming costlier. India's third-largest <keyword id="47689" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Telecom-operator">telecom operator</keyword>, <keyword id="6354924" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Idea-Cellular">Idea Cellular</keyword> was the first company to announce an increase in the data rates. Now the company has announced that it has witnessed growth in its <keyword id="748198" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="revenue-market-share">revenue market share</keyword> (RMS) by 1.6% in Q4FY15 and 1.3% in FY15, the company said, citing telecom regulator data. The company is part of <keyword id="44373" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Aditya-Birla-Group">Aditya Birla Group</keyword> and maintained its track record of being the fastest growing operator by RMS growth in the world's fastest growing market, reported the Economic Times. 

	The telco further consolidated its position as one of the top 3 operators in India by growing at double the rate of industry growth in terms of gross revenue. 
 

	In Q4FY15, Idea witnessed a growth of 21%, whereas the industry average revenue grew at 10.5% in one year. The company showed gross revenue growth of close to 20% in FY15, as against 10.8% the total industry revenue growth - the highest amongst all pan-India operators. 
 

	"Our commitment to grow both voice and data businesses, by investing in network infrastructure and spectrum acquisition, customer experience management, and brand building, has helped us further consolidate our position in a hyper-competitive market," Himanshu Kapania, Managing Director, Idea Cellular said in the statement. 
 

	Idea Cellular serves over 160 million subscribers. 
 Apart from this, the company has recently announced a roll over plan. Under this, new <keyword id="6378791" type="TECHNOLOGY" weightage="80" keywordseo="3G">3G</keyword> roll over data pack will allow Idea postpaid subscribers to carry forward their unused 3G data balance to next month without any extra charges.

Idea Cellular gain incremental market revenue

Get Your <keyword id="6362088" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="100" keywordseo="kick">Kick</keyword> This Eid, yells the movie poster and sure enough, it has never been this good for a <keyword id="143" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bollywood">Bollywood</keyword> release in 2014. <keyword id="1470620" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="superstar-Salman-Khan">Superstar Salman Khan</keyword> is back with Kick, his second venture of the current year, and the action-drama raced past his earlier outing <keyword id="6593120" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Jai-Ho">Jai Ho</keyword> (opening weekend collection Rs 58.50 crore at home). Released on July 25, the Salman Khan-Jacqueline Fernandez-starrer netted a mammoth Rs 83.83 crore at the <keyword id="827271" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Domestic-Box-Office">domestic box office</keyword> in the first three days (trade figure stood at Rs 82.01 crore) and is expected to hit the Rs 100 crore mark on Day 5 (July 29) at home. 
 
“Kick has a SPECTACULAR weekend. Fri 26.50 cr, Sat 27.15 cr, Sun 30.18 cr. Total: Rs 83.83 cr nett. India biz. REMARKABLE,” tweeted film critic and analyst Taran Adarsh. This is the highest opening day collection in 2014, but Kick failed to beat the debut day records of <keyword id="6355923" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Aamir-Khan">Aamir Khan</keyword>’s <keyword id="24705" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="60" keywordseo="Dhoom-3">Dhoom 3</keyword> (Rs 36 crore), <keyword id="4546" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Shah-Rukh">Shah Rukh</keyword>’s Chennai Express (Rs 33.10 crore) and Salman’s own <keyword id="638019" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Ek-Tha-Tiger">Ek Tha Tiger</keyword> (Rs 32.92 crore). Neither could it beat Dhoom 3’s record of entering the Rs 100 crore club in just three days. Interestingly, Salman’s Ek Tha Tiger entered the 100 crore club in the first weekend. 
 Although first Monday collections saw a huge 50% drop in earnings (compared to Sunday) at the domestic <keyword id="25892" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="box-office">box office</keyword>, the movie collected around Rs 13.5 crore as per industry estimates, taking Kick’s four-day total to Rs 97.3 crore (approx.). The flick has also done some good business overseas and grossed around Rs 22 crore at the end of Day 4. “Kick is excellent in USA-Canada and has performed well elsewhere. The business will get a further boost once the Eid festivities begin,” said Adarsh in another tweet. 
 
With Kick hitting the 100 crore mark globally, Salman now has seven <keyword id="2448807" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="100-crore-grossers">100 crore grossers</keyword> to his credit. The earlier six include Ek Tha Tiger, <keyword id="35445" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="bodyguard">Bodyguard</keyword>, <keyword id="94964" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="80" keywordseo="Dabangg">Dabangg</keyword> and Dabangg2, <keyword id="18142" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="80" keywordseo="Ready">Ready</keyword> and Jai Ho. As for the opening weekend, Kick is the fourth highest grosser of all time – after Dhoom 3 (Rs 107 crore), Chennai Express (100.35 crore) and Ek Tha Tiger (Rs 116.05 crore). Although <keyword id="95158" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="80" keywordseo="RA-One">Ra.One</keyword> (Rs 91.10 crore) and Bodyguard (Rs 86.10 crore) had earned more than Kick, both movies had a 5-day weekend. 
 
 
 
Kick is the <keyword id="41623" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Directorial-debut">directorial debut</keyword> of <keyword id="27326" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sajid-Nadiadwala">Sajid Nadiadwala</keyword>, known for producing big hits like Housefull, Heropanti, 2 States and Highway. This movie, too, has been produced by Nadiadwala and is marketed and distributed by <keyword id="61407" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="UTV-motion-pictures">UTV Motion Pictures</keyword>, a part of the <keyword id="473638" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Disney-Company">Disney Company</keyword> in India. Kick hit more than 5,000 screens in India and 42 other countries, and had a whopping budget of Rs 125 crore. For the uninitiated, this one is a remake of the 2009 Telugu action comedy Kick, directed by <keyword id="163370" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Surender-Reddy">Surender Reddy</keyword>. <keyword id="6390428" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Chetan-Bhagat">Chetan Bhagat</keyword> has co-written <keyword id="819709" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="40" keywordseo="the-script">the script</keyword> for the Hindi version. 
 
Coming back to the movie itself, it is a typical masala entertainer where everything else departs and ‘<keyword id="2448805" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Salmania">Salmania</keyword>’ takes over. Here’s a <keyword id="18564" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="blockbuster">blockbuster</keyword> screening the superb exploits and high voltage action of a Robin Hood-like <keyword id="7436" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="superhero">superhero</keyword> who is forever seeking adrenaline rush. Devil, aka Devil Lal Singh (<keyword id="6354583" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Salman-Khan">Salman Khan</keyword>), is initially drawn to Shaina (<keyword id="6354417" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Jacqueline-Fernandez">Jacqueline Fernandez</keyword>), a <keyword id="33876" type="POSITION" weightage="60" keywordseo="psychiatrist">psychiatrist</keyword> living in <keyword id="47414" type="COUNTRY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Poland">Poland</keyword>, as she manages to give him enough kick on the love front. The chemistry between the two is quite enjoyable while you have a <keyword id="1476042" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="super-cop">super cop</keyword> in <keyword id="45913" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Himanshu">Himanshu</keyword> (<keyword id="16675" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Randeep-Hooda">Randeep Hooda</keyword>), trying to decode some challenging robberies masterminded by Devil (reminds you of Dhoom 3?), and a creepy villain in <keyword id="2448803" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Shiv-Gazra">Shiv Gazra</keyword> (<keyword id="6359106" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Nawazuddin-Siddiqui">Nawazuddin Siddiqui</keyword>). The rest is usual Bollywood histrionics – right from accident to memory loss to melodrama and finally, a predictable climax without an ounce of surprise. But you would better forget the logic and the coherence part. The best thing that happened to this movie is Salman Khan (and the supporting cast) who sizzled all the way with devilish humour, sleek action and smooth romance.

Box Office: Salman’s Kick A Gold-spinner, Delivers Thrills Galore

Foreign investors have withdrawn nearly Rs 20,000 crore from Indian stock markets in just five trading days (November 4–8), continuing a trend of large-scale selling that began last month. Experts say investors are now moving their money to China, largely due to the high valuations presently prevailing in Indian markets. In early November, FPIs have offloaded as much as Rs 19,994 crore in Indian markets. The month prior, i.e., October, was one of the worst months in terms of foreign outflows, with FPIs making a net withdrawal of Rs 94,017 crore. Before this, Indian markets faced such a situation during the pandemic, when FPIs withdrew Rs 61,973 crore from equities in March 2020. <h2>Why Are Investors Leaving? </h2>According to Himanshu Srivastava of Morningstar Investment Research India, two main factors are driving this exodus. First is China's renewed appeal due to lower stock valuations and new economic stimulus measures. In a bid to nudge the domestic economy and bail state governments, China recently approved a 10-trillion yuan (US $1.4 trillion) package. Per reports, approximately 60% of this stimulus focuses on allowing local governments to refinance the mountain of debt on them. Srivastava explains foreign investors are also flocking to US dollar and Treasury yields, which have appreciated significantly in the recent past, leading FPIs to anticipate a stronger US economy going ahead. Moreover, high valuations in Indian markets are discouraging foreign investors from putting more money in the economy. As a result, over the past week, the selling pressure eroded Rs 74,563 crore in market value for Reliance Industries, while Bharti Airtel and ICICI Bank lost Rs 26,274 crore and Rs 22,254 crore, respectively. The combined market valuation of six of the top 10 most-valued firms dipped by Rs 1,55,721.12 crore last week. <h2> Silver linings</h2>Despite the ongoing outflux of funds since last month, November also saw unprecedented applications of about 40–50 new FPI registrations, which are eyeing to enter the Indian market. This was due to markets SEBIs recent relaxation to NRIs, permitting them to participate up to 100% and announcing measures for ease of entry and operations in India. On the other hand, FPIs invested Rs 599 crore in the debt general limit and Rs 2,896 crore in the debt voluntary retention route (VRR) during the period under review. So far this year, FPIs have invested Rs 1.06 lakh crore in the debt market. <li class="whitespace-normal break-words"></li>Going ahead, investors will be looking for certain macroeconomic cues, which include corporate earnings reports, India's inflation (CPI) and industrial production (IIP) data on November 12, the US inflation report on November 13, and wholesale price index (WPI) data on November 14.

FPIs withdraw nearly Rs 20,000 crore from equities in the last 5 trading sessions, make a beeline for China and US

New Delhi: <keyword id="19900795" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="foreign-investors" source="keywords">Foreign investors</keyword> pulled out a massive Rs 94,000 crore (around USD 11.2 billion) from the Indian <keyword id="19925636" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="stock-market" source="keywords">stock market</keyword> in October, making it the worst-ever month in terms of outflows, triggered by the elevated valuation of domestic equities and attractive valuations of <keyword id="20295104" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Chinese-stocks" source="keywords">Chinese stocks</keyword>. Before this, foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) withdrew Rs 61,973 crore from equities in March 2020. The latest outflow came after a nine-month high investment of Rs 57,724 crore in September 2024. Since June, FPIs have consistently bought equities after withdrawing Rs 34,252 crore in April-May. Overall, FPIs have been net buyers in 2024, except for January, April and May, data with the depositories showed. Looking ahead, the trajectory of global events like geopolitical developments, interest rate movements, progress in the Chinese economy and the outcome of the US Presidential election will play a crucial role in shaping future foreign investment in <keyword id="20014814" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-equities" source="keywords">Indian equities</keyword>, Himanshu Srivastava, Associate Director, Manager Research, Morningstar Investment Research India, said. On the domestic front, key indicators like inflation trajectory, corporate earnings, and the impact of festive season demand will also be closely watched by FPIs as they assess opportunities in the Indian market, he added. According to the data, FPIs recorded a net outflow of Rs 94,017 crore in October. The intensity of net outflows could be gauged from the fact that except for one day, FPIs were net sellers throughout the month, bringing their total investment for 2024 down to Rs 6,593 crore. This relentless selling resulted in about an 8 per cent decline in benchmark indices from their peaks. Several factors contributed towards this massive withdrawal of foreign capital from the Indian equity markets in October. The major among them is the elevated valuations of Indian equities. This has triggered a shift in investments towards China, where valuations are currently more attractive. Additionally, a series of stimulus measures, aimed at bolstering Chinese economic growth has made Chinese equities increasingly appealing to global investors, Srivastava said. Despite the massive FPI selling in financials, this sector is resilient since the valuations are fair and every selling is being absorbed by DIIs and individual investors, particularly HNIs, VK Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist, Geojit Financial Services, said. In addition, FPIs pulled out Rs 4,406 crore from the debt general limit and invested Rs 100 crore from the debt Voluntary Retention Route (VRR) during the period under review. So far this year, FPIs invested Rs 1.06 lakh crore in the debt market.
