Over the past several months Gehlot, 72, tried every trick up his sleeve -- he has his magician father's blood running through his veins, after all -- to retain the post. Last year, MLAs loyal to him even defied the party high command by boycotting the Congress Legislature Party meeting summoned in Jaipur to possibly pave the way to the CM's post for Sachin Pilot, who in 2020 led a rebellion against the older colleague. The Gandhis wanted Gehlot to quit state politics and become the next national president of the Congress. But Gehlot succeeded in staying put. He then set himself on the task of trying to get the Congress back in a state that for the last three decades has never returned the same party to office twice in a row. Gehlot introduced a slew of welfare measures, including cheaper cooking gas for the poor and a Rs 25-lakh medical insurance scheme. The old pension scheme was back for government employees. And the Congress stalwart ensured that he was identified with each scheme. Had the Congress won, most observers feel, it would have been forced to pick Gehlot over Pilot again as CM. The detection of potentially pathogenic <keyword id="1754604" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="coronavirus">coronavirus</keyword> in Indian <keyword id="92255" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bats">bats</keyword> stresses the need for enhancing screening for novel viruses in them, according to a study by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). This study was a step towards understanding the coronavirus circulation in Indian bats. "One Health approach with collaborative activities by the animal health and human health sectors in these surveillance activities shall be of use to public health," the study published in the Indian Journal of Medical Research said. "This would help in the development of diagnostic assays for novel viruses with outbreak potential and be useful in disease interventions. Proactive surveillance remains crucial for identifying the emerging novel viruses with epidemic potential and measures for risk mitigation," said the study authored by Pragya D Yadav as the first author. A study by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has found the presence of a bat coronavirus in bat species from Kerala, <keyword id="6358126" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Himachal-Pradesh">Himachal Pradesh</keyword>, Puducherry and <keyword id="20154" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="tamil-nadu">Tamil Nadu</keyword>. There have been studies and theories that the coronavirus pandemic which spread from Wuhan in China had originated from bats. The ICMR study for the first time has found the presence of a different kind of coronavirus, bat coronavirus (BtCoV) in two bat species from these four states. According to the study published in the Indian Journal of Medical Research, there is no evidence to suggest that the bat coronaviruses can cause disease in humans. Bats from the Rousettus and Pteropus species from the four states were found positive. These bat coronaviruses are not related to the SARS-CoV2 which is causing the Covid 19 pandemic. The Pteropus bat species were earlier found positive for Nipah virus in 2018 and 2019 in Kerala. "Bats are considered to be the natural reservoir for many viruses, of which some are potential human pathogens. In India, an association of Pteropus medius bats with the Nipah virus was reported in the past. It is suspected that the recently emerged severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) also has its association with bats," the objective of the study titled 'Detection of coronaviruses in Pteropus and Rousettus species of bats from different states of India' said. In conclusion, the study showed detection of pathogenic CoVs in two species of Indian bats. Continuous active surveillance is required to identify the emerging novel viruses with epidemic potential. "There is a need of proactive surveillance of zoonotic infections in bats. Detection and identifications of such aetiological agents will provide leads for the development of diagnostic along with preparedness and readiness to deal with such emergent viruses thereby quickly containing them," the study said. The detection and identification of such viruses from bats also recommends cross-sectional antibody surveys (human and domestic animals) in localities where the viruses have been detected. Similarly, if epidemiological situation demands, evidence-based surveillance should also be conducted. There is a need of developing strong mechanisms for working jointly with various stakeholders such as wildlife, poultry, animal husbandry and human health departments. In the present scenario of changing demography and ecological manipulations, it is challenging to have checks on the encounters of bats with other animals and humans. Therefore, active and continuous surveillance remains crucial for outbreak alerts for bat-associated viral agents with epidemic potential, which would be helpful in timely interventions, the study said. Although CoVs in the subfamily Coronavirinae do not usually produce clinical symptoms in their natural hosts (bats), accidental transmission of these viruses to humans and other animals may result in respiratory, enteric, hepatic or neurologic diseases of variable severity. Bringing international action to the hills was never an easy task, but due to the HPCA's constant efforts over the years, the state of <keyword id="6358126" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Himachal-Pradesh">Himachal Pradesh</keyword> today boasts a world-class cricket stadium. The board embarked upon a journey in the year 2000 and its the development - especially in terms of infrastructure has been immense. The growth of the association has picked up sharply since 2002, reaching almost 150 million by 2008 and a staggering 1000 millions at present.

	The reason behind the positive twist is mainly attributed to the untiring efforts being put in by the HPCA under the dynamic leadership of Anurag Thakur, who led the team from the front with full dedication and commitment which was duly complimented by the financial support in the shapes of subsidies by the BCCI.
 The foundation of the HPCA Stadium was laid by <keyword id="508455" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Himachal-Pradesh-Chief-Minister">Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister</keyword> Prem Kumar Dhumal in March 2002. It was a significant achievement for the HPCA not only because creating an international stadium in the hills was almost unthinkable, but also for playing a crucial role in the promotion of cricket in the state. Thanks to the BCCI's support, the stadium began getting its shape every passing year and in 2007, the construction was almost 75 percent complete.

	As the lush green ground matching international standards was ready for playing, the stadium even hosted some first-class matches and a prestigious three-day practice match between Pakistan and the Board President’s XI. In September 2007, the ICC inspected the stadium to include in into the list of venues for international matches, but unfortunately due to a few shortcomings related to a lack of proper hotel accommodation, the picturesque stadium had to wait for two more years before getting the clearance for ODI and Twenty20 matches.

	The ground is prepared with Bermuda and winter grass and comprises a field size of 80 yards from the centre of the square. The main square has six strips , out of which centre three has the TV camera facility. In addition, there exist two separate practice areas with eight strips for both teams. The stadium in not only furnished with modern amenities and state of art machinery, but also with proper international-quality equipment which include 11 rollers, and 4 Super Soppers.

	The stadium also gives clarion-call to the players and is very well connected with the main roads of the town. There are 13 stands and five main entries for 19,979 spectators. The stadium has two blocks, South Block (Pavillion End) and North Block (media centre). The South Block consists of magnificent dressing rooms, with luxurious facilities for players, match referee room, observer room, umpire Room, third umpire room, scorers’ room, video analyst room, corporate boxes and a VIP sitting area.
 The North Block nestles the media centre, <keyword id="55539" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="commentary">commentary</keyword> box, venue operation centre and the post-match conference area. The media centre has the capacity to accommodate nearly 150 people and by the look of it, the proceedings of the matches are clearly visible from there.  Noting that ambient air quality was poor during winters, a bench headed by <keyword id="6357743" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="NGT">NGT</keyword> Chairperson Justice <keyword id="159838" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Swatanter-Kumar">Swatanter Kumar</keyword> asked the states of Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, <keyword id="44522" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Uttarakhand">Uttarakhand</keyword>, Punjab, <keyword id="6358126" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Himachal-Pradesh">Himachal Pradesh</keyword> and <keyword id="41646" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Haryana">Haryana</keyword> to take clear decision on switching to <keyword id="6356175" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="CNG">CNG</keyword> vehicles and buy buses with additional fuel cylinders to resolve the issue of providing sufficient fuel in these buses, according to a news report of an agency. 
 "It is contended before us that ambient air quality is much poorer compared to the prescribed standards and there is serious environmental and public health issues arising from the pollution. It is so more particularly in the areas of <keyword id="75794" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Anand-Vihar">Anand Vihar</keyword>, Patparganj and <keyword id="132154" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sahibabad">Sahibabad</keyword>. 
 
"The Counsel appearing for the State of Uttarakhand, UP, Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh to take clear instructions from their governments as to why they should not be directed to stop operating diesel buses destined to Delhi or passing via Delhi and instead operate CNG buses...," the bench said. 
 The NGT also directed <keyword id="111875" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Delhi-Pollution-Control-Committee">Delhi Pollution Control Committee</keyword> and UP pollution control board to provide complete details in regard to the air pollution resulting from the industries in Patparganj, Sahibabad and Anand Vihar within a week. 
 
It asked them to find out what pollutants are discharged by industrial units in these areas and steps that are required to be taken by them. 
The matter was listed for next hearing on December 23. 
 
In October, the green panel had rapped the states for not being clear on their policy for CNG vehicles and warned of halting state transport if they did not introduce CNG, saying most particulate matters in the air inhaled by Delhi'ites emanated from there.

<ul><li>A single cricket match in India generates, on an average, about 3-4.5 tons of waste, particularly the plastic kind.</li><li>Acting secretary of the <keyword id="81008" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Board-of-Control-for-Cricket-in-India">Board of Control for Cricket in India</keyword> (BCCI), <keyword id="91553" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Amitabh-Choudhary">Amitabh Choudhary</keyword>, and Erik Solheim, Executive Director of <keyword id="2377340" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="UN-Environment">UN Environment</keyword> signed a letter of intent on Sunday to promote ‘green’ cricket in India. </li><li>The idea is to try and encourage the spectators to avoid using single-use plastic bottles and cups and eventually phase it out completely.</li></ul>The fact that India is a cricket-crazy nation is no secret, but a single cricket match in India generates, on an average, <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/sports/cricket/ipl/top-stories/un-bcci-bat-for-zero-waste-green-cricket/articleshow/64005734.cms">about 3-4.5 tons of waste</a>, particularly the plastic kind. And that is a matter of grave concern. However, taking cognisance of this environmental problem, acting secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Amitabh Choudhary, and Erik Solheim, Executive Director of UN Environment <a href="http://indianexpress.com/article/sports/cricket/bcci-goes-green-by-joining-hands-with-un-5193402/">signed a letter of intent</a> on Sunday to promote ‘green’ cricket in India. The idea is to try and encourage the spectators to avoid using single-use plastic bottles and cups during the matches and eventually phase out the use of these items in cricket stadiums across India altogether. “The partnership aims to spread greater awareness about key environmental challenges facing the country, and highlight alternate and more sustainable solutions. The BCCI will endeavour to reduce its environmental impact by greening operations and engaging cricketers and fans in green initiatives,” said the BCCI in a statement. BCCI in collaboration with other key players in the <keyword id="6354831" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="indian-premier-league">Indian Premier League</keyword> (<keyword id="6354312" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="IPL">IPL</keyword>) has already boosted their efforts to nudge spectators to avoid using plastic. In fact, during the IPL a video featuring the captains of the cricket teams was played out educating the spectators of harmful effects of plastic pollution. And a Green Protocol based on the 3Rs concept – reduce, reuse and recycle – was implemented during the four IPL matches played at the <keyword id="6455883" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="holkar-stadium">Holkar Stadium</keyword> in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. At the M Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru, the <keyword id="5397" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Karnataka-State-Cricket-Association">Karnataka State Cricket Association</keyword> provided environment-friendly alternatives to plastic cups and bottles for over 32,000 fans. Also, waste management firms, municipalities and non-profit organisations for the first time ever assessed the amount of plastic waste generated during the recent IPL matches and actively implemented a plan to segregate waste. Of these, Hasiru Dala Innovations, a Bengaluru-based waste management services company responsible for handling the waste generated by select food stands at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, reported a staggering approximate of seven tons of garbage being generated during 10 IPL matches held in May. And this was despite efforts being implemented to “reduce waste generation and maximize waste segregation at the stadium,” Shekar Prabhakar, managing director and founder of Hasiru Dala Innovations, told <a href="https://news.cgtn.com/news/3d3d774e31517a4e77457a6333566d54/share_p.html">CGTN</a>.

India’s cricket control board wants stadiums to “go green”

We often hear that size doesn’t matter and small things bring about the biggest changes. This is what happened when the tiny state of <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Sikkim+&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Sikkim </a>emerged at the top spot with the best workplace conditions for women in India. <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Delhi&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Delhi</a>, the national capital on the other hand happened to be ranked the worst for women to work in. 
 A report, jointly prepared by the Centre for Strategic and International Studies (<keyword id="6701742" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="CSIS">CSIS</keyword>), a top American think-tank, and Nathan Associates, gave <keyword id="48118" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sikkim">Sikkim</keyword> the max marks that were 40 and Delhi received just 8.5 marks, reflecting what is wrong in the capital. 
 
"In something of a surprise, Delhi came last in our Index, due to its relatively low justice and workforce participation scores; its continued formal restrictions on women working at night in a wide range of sectors; and its lack of any incentives for female entrepreneurs in its industrial policies," the report said. 
 
The ranking was based on four main factors: legal restrictions on women's working hours in factories, retail, and the IT industry; the responsiveness of the state's criminal justice system to crimes affecting working women, such as sexual harassment; the number of women workers in the state as a percentage of total workers; and the number of incentives the state's startup and industrial policies offer women entrepreneurs. 
 
"But the tiny northeastern state of Sikkim is the breakthrough state for women in the workplace, thanks to its high rates of female workforce participation, lack of restrictions on women's working hours, and high conviction rates for workforce crimes against women (albeit on a small sample size)," the report said. 
 
Sikkim is followed by <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Telangana&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Telangana</a> (28.5 points), <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Puducherry&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Puducherry</a> (25.6), <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Karnataka+&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Karnataka </a>(24.7), <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Himachal+Pradesh&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Himachal Pradesh</a> (24.2), <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Andhra+Pradesh+&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Andhra Pradesh </a>(24.0), <keyword id="28504" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kerala">Kerala</keyword> (22.2), <keyword id="13126" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Maharashtra">Maharashtra</keyword> (21.4), <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=tamil+nadu&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Tamil Nadu</a> (21.1) and <keyword id="43945" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Chhattisgarh">Chhattisgarh</keyword> (21.1). “All Four states (Sikkim, <keyword id="6354780" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="20" keywordseo="Karnataka">Karnataka</keyword>, <keyword id="37102" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Andhra-Pradesh">Andhra Pradesh</keyword>, and <keyword id="20154" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="tamil-nadu">Tamil Nadu</keyword>) have removed all restrictions on women working at night in factories, retail establishments and the IT sector,” the report said. 
 
These restrictions were removed as a result of court order in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu. 
 
Maharashtra missed the perfect score by just a point as the state doesn’t allow women to work after 10 pm in retail establishments. 
 
India has the world's lowest rate (24 per cent) of female workforce participation as many states have laws limiting women's working hours, and Indian women face harassment in the workplace and while commuting.

Dharamshala (HP), Apr 24 () An association of hoteliers and restaurant owners in Himachal Pradesh has written to Chief Minister Jairam Thakur requesting the state government's support in dealing with the impact of COVID-19 lockdown on the tourism industry.Federation of Hotel and Restaurant Association of Himachal Pradesh (FOHRA), sent the letter to the CM seeking relaxation in various charges, a member of the association said here on Friday.It urged the chief minister that domestic use charges be applied on electricity and water bills of hotels and restaurants. The association also requested for a non-commercial rate on property tax and waiver of license renewal fee, he said.Budhi Parkash Thakur, the Convener of FOHRA, told that the tourism industry is going through a very bad phase due to the COVID-19 pandemic.He said in the last three years the tourism industry could not do well and was expecting a recovery in business in 2020, but due to the pandemic there is no possibility left to bounce back.The letter said if FOHRA's requests are met it will bring immediate relief to the tourism sector in the state.The copies of the letter were also forwarded to the chief secretary, additional chief secretary and the director of Tourism &amp; Civil Aviation department.
