The good news just doesn’t stop for <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=kavin+mittal">Kavin </a><a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=kavin+mittal">Mittal</a>’s homegrown <keyword id="44033" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="hike">Hike</keyword> Messenger. 
 
After being in the limelight just last month for being the first communication app built in India to cross more than 100 million users and for raising undisclosed funding from a host of tech veterans, such as WordPress co-founder Matt Mullenweg, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=quora">Quora </a>founder, Adam D’Angelo and Dropbox’s Vice-President of Engineering, Aditya Agarwal, the company surprised and evoked gasps by<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/In-pictures-Ispent-two-hours-at-Hikes-new-office-and-I-wish-I-didnt-have-to-come-back/articleshow/50925928.cms"> unveiling its new headquarters today</a>. 
 While, Hike’s new home blew our mind away, its founder and CEO <keyword id="866223" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Kavin-Mittal">Kavin Mittal</keyword>’s clear understanding of <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=startups">startups</a>, challenges of retaining good employees and for creating an environment they would like to work at and business acumen made us nod our head in agreement. 
 
It’s hard to believe that Hike is only three years old. And, so we decided to highlight Kavin Mittal’s five pieces of advice that we thought would apply to every startup and ones they should really keep in mind. 
 
1. ‘The best kind of people don’t need to be policed, they need to be unleashed’ 
 
While talking about how he refuses to set down rules and guidelines for his employees, he clearly stated that if you have the right people who share your vision, then all you need to do is just unleash their talent. Let them run free and you’ll see that they’ll bring you rewards. 
 
2. ‘Hiring the right people and giving them the best possible environment to work at should be every startup’s two priorities’ 
 “If you’re a startup, then you’ve already realised that you and your employees will have a creative job, not a logical job,” says Mittals, adding that thus the priority then should be to get teh right people on board and to ensure that they’re given the best environment to shine. The right people can achieve nothing in a wrong environment and vice versa. Both these factors and co-dependent and It’s high time <keyword id="6362513" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Startups">startups</keyword> realise this, he states. 
 
3. ‘Find satisfaction from the fact that you’re able to achieve what was asked from you. Other people should not have to tell you you’ve done a good job’ 
 
According to Kavin, working at a startup is a pretty thankless job, especially with all the long hours you’re going to be putting. “The hundreds; maybe even thousands of people whose lives you are going to be impacting are not going to personally come and say thank you. You can’t expect that, ” he warns, but what should ideally give you the high is the satisafction that you delivered. 
 
4. ‘To be a successful startup at a time when everyday there’s a new startup, you’ve got to want it bad enough.’ 
 
“I can count the number of successes Hike has had but, not the number of failures- because there’s been that many,” That however didn’t deter him from builidng what he believed in because he wanted it bad enough. And, if you’re a startup, you should do. The highs overwrite the many many lows. 
 
5. ‘Don’t start a startup just for the sake of it’ 
 
The startup craze is good, but don’t let that be the reason for your startup, feels Kavin. It’s not just enough to build something cool. You have to make an impact with what you’ve built.

Exclusive: Five pieces of advice from Hike’s Kavin
Mittal that every startup should keep in mind

The stage was set. The venue was <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Hike+messenger">Hike Messenger</a>'s new office at Worldmark Towers, <keyword id="6361586" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Gurgaon">Gurgaon</keyword>. My comrade- the ever mighty lift took me upstairs to the fourth floor, where <keyword id="44033" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="hike">Hike</keyword>’s new home looked at me invitingly. 
 
I took a deep breath and took the first step, opening the glass door that stood in between. 
 
What awaited me inside was something that took my expectations by the collar and told it, it would be way way way better. 
Trust me, it was. 
 
Upon my arrival, I was greeted by the reception desk and as I my hands reached out for a pen to enter my details on pages of a giant visitor diary, I was told it wasn’t required. 
 
My shock at hearing that instantly led to surprise when I was pointed at a tab by the receptionist. The tab has been set u to key in the visitor’s name, email, contact and their host, i.e., who you’ve arrived to meet. They’ll get notified of your presence at once. And, when you’re done, the front camera sets up to take your picture as a token of remembrance and saves your details, so the next time you’re here again, they’ll embrace you like an old friend. 
 
A print out of my name and contact disguised as an ID card quickly came out which was then put on my chest as a badge of honour as my host received me with equal gusto. 
 
 
 
My adventures had just begun. 
 
Writeable walls, open spaces, bright colours, unending patches grass, dual lighting, hammocks, chairs that have comfort oozing out of them, a cafeteria that resembles a cozy cafe, special rooms dedicated to special movie, book and Japanese references, nap room and a library that makes you want to keep time still- the 35,000 carpet area of the new Hike HQ, which can house almost 400 people is all this and so much more. 
 
“After spending hours brainstorming on what should be the theme for our new office, we decided that it should reflect the principles that we stand for, and here I present, the Temple of Excellence,” a visibly excited <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=kavin+mittal">Kavin </a><a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=kavin+mittal">Mitta</a>l, founder and CEO of the homegrown messaging app Hike tells us. 
 This temple of excellence, located at <keyword id="6388587" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Aerocity">Aerocity</keyword> with breathtaking views of the airport, roads that never seem to end and nature is homegrown like the app, too. Infact, Kavin himself was involved in designing the office space, along with his three other colleagues. 
 
 
 
That’s not all. There’s a room called Esc. Another called Teen Patti, followed by AK-47 and one christened the Hobbiton. Quirky movie references dominate this work space. 
 
Then there’s the jungle. “We just wanted to have a garden. So, we went ahead and id it,”he said. 
 
If you think about it, that in one sentence summarises this place. There is no method to this madnesss that is Hike and Mittal sure wants his office to reflect that. 
 
 
 
To make up for the long hours, employees would be spending here, it comes loaded with showers, a meditation room, a gym, very aptly titled ‘The Fight Club,’and a nap room. Posters with inspirational quotes and funny messages are everywhere your eyes can go. 
 
"We've had people who just stayed overnight at the office, slept in the nap room, took a shower and then got back to work. They feel like home, here,"he gushes. 
 
And, I can't help but nod my head, understanding why. Coming to work at Hike's new headquarters feels less like work and more like a vacation. 
 
It really is an office you wouldn’t want to leave. And, I certainly didn’t want to.
