<ul class="summary-list"><li>Hewlett Packard Enterprise and Nvidia are teaming up to simplify generative-AI adoption.</li><li>The product integrates Nvidia AI computing with HPE's storage, computing, and cloud offerings.</li></ul><p>Companies see the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.mckinsey.com/capabilities/quantumblack/our-insights/the-state-of-ai">potential of generative AI</a> in streamlining tasks and creating efficiencies across their businesses. But they don't always have the knowledge or resources to start using the technology.</p><p>Hewlett Packard Enterprise and Nvidia recently announced a portfolio of AI solutions, called <a target="_blank" href="https://www.hpe.com/us/en/newsroom/press-release/2024/06/hewlett-packard-enterprise-and-nvidia-announce-nvidia-ai-computing-by-hpe-to-accelerate-generative-ai-industrial-revolution.html">Nvidia AI Computing by HPE</a>, to make it easier for companies of all sizes to adopt AI.</p><p>Fidelma Russo, the chief technology officer and executive vice president of hybrid-cloud business at HPE, said the solution came about after the company learned that most of its customers were interested in <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/chatgpt-openai-ai-dictionary-help-understand-nvidia-2023-12">generative artificial intelligence</a> and wanted to implement it quickly. "But there are a lot of barriers to getting started quickly," she said.</p><p>The product integrates Nvidia AI computing, networking, and software with HPE's AI storage, computing, and cloud offerings. Russo said it uses templates and a drag-and-drop experience to make it easy for users without expertise to develop AI models.</p><p>The tool is in beta testing and set to be available in the fall, she said. Business Insider spoke with Russo about how the HPE-Nvidia product could help companies <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/companies-using-ai-bain-survey-roi-2024-6">overcome AI challenges</a>.</p><p><em>The following has been edited for length and clarity.</em></p><p><strong>What pain points do businesses face when implementing AI?</strong></p><p>You have to get <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/ai-training-data-source-solutions-openai-meta-google-2024-4">a lot of data</a> together to feed this new technology — generative AI. That's one barrier. No. 2 is you have to figure out <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-companies-are-using-ai-generative-ai-daily-tasks-automation-2024-1">how to use the new technology</a>. And No. 3 is you have a lot of <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/microsoft-plans-spend-more-ai-infrastructure-capex-earnings-azure-chips-2024-4">infrastructure</a> that you have to get set up.</p><p>We can help eliminate a lot of those pain points with this product. It helps you bring together your data quickly with a number of the technologies that we have. It brings together our software assets so that you can get up and running fast with a few clicks. It helps eliminate a lot of the mistakes that you can make along the way by having the whole thing automated so that many of the human steps are taken out of the way.</p><p><strong>How does the product work?</strong></p><p>If you want to deploy a <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/deloitte-introduces-ai-chatbot-to-assist-staff-with-daily-tasks-2024-1">gen-AI chatbot</a>, for example, you typically have to decide what kind of model to use. You have to get all of your data together and all of your <a target="_blank" class="" href=" https://www.businessinsider.com/artificial-intelligence-data-privacy-on-premises-information-technology-solutions-2024-8">hardware and software</a>, including storage and graphics processing units, from somebody like HPE or Nvidia and set it all up. Maybe after six to nine months, you would have a trained model that's going to work.</p><p>What we've done with Nvidia is have these pre-canned models, and they've been potentially pretrained. You bring along your own data and personalize it. Your chatbot or other AI model is up and running in a fraction of the time.</p><p>It's driven by drag and drop and templates. It's very easy to use. You don't have to move your data; it can stay where it is. We have a data fabric that goes out and points to your data.</p><p>We really focused on making sure this is easy for people to navigate and taking the mystery out of using these gen-AI models and getting you to what you're trying to do.</p><p><strong>What benefits does the product offer businesses?</strong></p><p>It's all-around productivity for businesses. The promise of gen AI is about getting usefulness from all of the data that everybody has across their business. It's using gen AI to take all the knowledge that companies have generated over many years and do the mundane activities very quickly — such as to increase <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/verizon-is-using-generative-ai-to-streamline-business-relationships-2024-7">customer service</a> or to help developers generate code faster.</p><p>A company using the technology ends up with a significant competitive advantage within an industry. That's why they want to leverage gen AI.</p><p>The data that companies have is so important. A new AI portfolio from Hewlett Packard Enterprise and Nvidia could help companies adopt the tech faster — HPE's CTO shares how

<br /><ul><li><strong>Hewlett Packard Enterprises (HP) India has extended its 26-week parental leave policy to fathers too.<br /></strong></li><li><strong>Earlier, the policy included merely a five-days parental leave. <br /></strong></li><li><strong>With this, it plans to increase the workforce in India by 20% over the next five years.</strong></li><li><strong>It will also allow employees to work part-time for three years following the adoption or birth of the child.</strong></li></ul>Hewlett Packard (HP) India is giving new fathers the same number of parental leaves as mothers. <br /><br />The company said that its 26-weeks paid parental leave will now be applicable to both men and women — for childbirth and adoption. It also includes the facilitation of day-care centres across locations in India — which is eligible for children upto three years of age.<br /><br />The company extended parental leaves to six months in April 2019. Earlier, the policy included merely a five-days parental leave. <br /><br />The company aims to implement a culture of inclusivity to increase its employee retention rate. With this, it plans to increase the workforce in India by 20% over the next five years.<br /><br />“The benefits we are implementing around the globe reflect HPE’s commitment to attracting, nurturing and retaining the best talent in India,” HPE India VP and managing director Som Satsangi <a href="https://www.financialexpress.com/industry/hewlett-packard-enterprise-introduces-26-weeks-paid-paternal-leave-in-india/1683552/">told</a> news agency PTI.<br /><br />At HPE we are not only creating jobs, but also helping employees build long-term careers with the necessary support structure and working culture,” he added.<br /><br />In fact, the company allows its employees to work part-time for three years following the adoption or birth of the child.<br /><br />Overall, paid parental maternity leaves<a href="https://www.thehrdigest.com/parental-leave-for-new-dads-companies-that-boosted-their-paternity-leave/"> increased by 8%</a> during 2016-18, according to a study published by SHRM. <br /><br />It provides other employee benefits like life insurance and health insurance cover. From November 2019, the company will increase the insurance cover to twice the annual compensation of its employees.<br /><br />Indian startups like <a href="https://www.entrepreneur.com/article/334894">Zomato</a> have also stepped up their efforts to establish work-life balance. Hewlett Packard India extends its 6 month paid parental leave to fathers as well

After the split, Whitman become CEO of the newly-formed HPE. </p><p>However, in late 2017, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/meg-whitman-is-stepping-down-from-the-ceo-job-at-hewlett-packard-enterprise-2017-11">Whitman announced that she would step down as HPE's CEO</a>, following reports that she was looking for a new job. It was reported, at the time, that she even interviewed for the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/hpe-ceo-meg-whitman-actually-did-want-to-be-ubers-next-chief-2017-8">then-open role of CEO at Uber</a>. After her departure in early 2018, HPE President Antonio Neri was named the new CEO. </p><p>"I thank Meg for her long dedication to HPE, helping us successfully launch as an independent company and execute a smooth leadership transition. We wish her every success in the future," HPE chairman Pat Russo said in part of a statement on Whitman's departure from the board.</p><p>Nowadays, Whitman is the CEO of Quibi, a video-on-demand startup founded by famed Hollywood exec Jeffrey Katzenberg. </p><p>As for HPE, the company also announced on Thursday that Jean Hobby, most recently the chief strategy officer at consulting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers, will be joining its board. Most recently, Google announced it reached <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/google-scientists-say-theyve-reached-quantum-supremacy-demonstrating-that-quantum-computers-outgun-classical-computers-2019-10">an important benchmark</a> in quantum computing (although <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/ibm-google-quantum-supremacy-feud-2019-10">IBM disputed it</a>).</p><p>However, HP took a different route. Around five years ago, HP decided it would be difficult to scale to a level where it could build a usable quantum computer. In addition, during this time, HP was about to be split <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/hp-is-planning-to-split-2014-10">into two companies</a>: HP Inc. and Hewlett Packard Enterprise. </p><p>"I felt that the materials industry was probably a decade away from making that available," HP Enterprise senior fellow Ray Beausoleil, who led HP's quantum computing efforts, told Business Insider. "I felt that going forward, I was just going to competing with universities instead of collaborating with it. I didn't think that was a productive way to spend our time."</p><p>Beausoleil, a former quantum physicist from Stanford who is now a fellow at HPE, says he explained his rationale to senior management, and they understood and accepted it. He felt that quantum computing wasn't feasible for the kinds of data sets enterprise customers want to analyze. </p><p>Beausoleil also says he couldn't come up with a use case in quantum computing that HPE was likely to have. He says the types of things HPE focuses on in its day-to-day work don't directly apply to building a quantum computer, so quantum computing no longer became a priority. </p><h2><strong>'For the majority of our customers, it's not going to make a difference to them'</strong></h2><p>Beausoleil says that while quantum computing could be "awesomely important" for drug discovery and finding new building materials, HPE focuses more on business applications.</p><p>"I don't think it's going to solve the kind of problems that banks face or hospitals face or our traditional customers," Beausoleil said. "It's really not a good fit. On the other hand, pharmaceutical companies would love to have a quantum computer. It really depends on your enterprise. For the majority of our customers, it's not going to make a difference to them."</p><p>Some of the challenges of building a quantum computer today include making sure temperatures remain close to absolute zero - otherwise, the particles required for these computations will become unstable. Instead, HPE decided to focus on building more advanced computer hardware that its customers could use. </p><p>Beausoleil says it's possible that HPE could go back into quantum computing if there was a practical way for HPE to use it. </p><p>"If all of a sudden, traditional enterprise workloads looked like they could be solved using quantum computing architecture, then our interest would be rekindled," Beausoleil said. "Of course, we have a limited amount of time, and where can that time and money be put to best use?"</p><h2><strong>'I wish them all the luck in the world'</strong></h2><p>Beausoleil says that for the competitors that are working on quantum computing, "I wish them all the luck in the world."</p><p>"I am not going to comment on individual companies' approaches," Beausoleil said. "I am not an expert at their particular approaches. I do think that in certain application areas, quantum computing has the potential to be revolutionary. I hope that they'll be successful and we'll see the fruits of quantum computing realized."</p><p>Still, Beausoleil remains optimistic about <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/microsoft-quantum-computing-career-2019-3">quantum computing</a>. <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/vcs-are-investing-in-quantum-startups-but-expect-a-quantum-winter-2019-3">Experts predict</a> that quantum computers won't be mainstream for another five to ten years, and Beausoleil even predicts that in 20 years, it will not be possible to design computers without understanding quantum computing. </p><p>"All of the students in graduate school right now who <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/microsoft-krysta-svore-quantum-computing-fortune-brainstorm-2019-7">are working in</a> quantum computing, even if they don't work for a quantum computing company, they are building the experience we will need for our information technology in the next decade, even if it doesn't result in a quantum computer," Beausoleil said. Hewlett Packard Enterprise explains why it gave up on quantum computing right as it was splitting off from HP Inc

<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Oracle</span></p><p class="caption">Oracle executive chairman and CTO Larry Ellison</p></div><p></p></div></div>Hewlett Packard <keyword id="6356323" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Enterprise">Enterprise</keyword> is only about six months old, and its old rival Oracle <a href="http://sqoop.com/details/pacer/cand/3:16-cv-01393?utm_medium=email&amp;utm_source=s_alert">has filed a new lawsuit against it.</a></p><p>The former partners have had a history of lawsuits ever since Oracle bought Sun Microsystems to become a direct competitor to HP in the hardware business. </p><p>Then Oracle hired HP's former CEO Mark Hurd after Hurd left <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/heres-the-sex-letter-that-got-mark-hurd-fired-as-ceo-of-hp-2011-12">HP amidst a scandal.</a></p><p>In November 2015, HP split into HP Enterprise, which sells a variety of hardware, software, and services to large companies, and HP Inc., which sells PCs and printers. </p><p>In this new lawsuit, filed on Tuesday, Oracle is alleging that HP "partnered" with a third-party software support called TERiX Computer Company to offer enterprises support for Oracle's Solaris operating system, including things like software patches, updates, and bug fixes.</p><p>Oracle makes most of its money selling such support for its various software and has sued other third-party providers that try to do this kind of support for a cheaper price than Oracle. It's won <a href="http://www.computerworld.com/article/2992128/technology-law-regulation/oracle-awarded-50-million-in-lawsuit-against-rimini-street.html">some of these suits.</a></p><p>Oracle had previously sued <span>TERiX and in June a judge ordered <a href="http://www.pcworld.com/article/2935012/terix-to-pay-oracle-58m-in-settlement-over-solaris-support.html"><span>TERiX to pay</span> $57.7 million in damages</a>.  And Oracle famously sued its biggest rival, SAP, after SAP bought a third-party support provider, TomorrowNow. That litigation went on years and was finally settled when <a href="http://www.reuters.com/article/us-oracle-sap-se-settlement-idUSKCN0IX2RJ20141113">SAP agreed to pay Oracle </a><span><a href="http://www.reuters.com/article/us-oracle-sap-se-settlement-idUSKCN0IX2RJ20141113">$356.7 million</a> in 2014 (the <a href="http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2010-11-23/sap-must-pay-oracle-1-3-billion-over-unit-s-downloads">original award was for $1.3 billion</a>, but <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/sap-doesnt-have-to-pay-oracle-13b-2014-8">a judge threw it out for being too high.</a>)</span></span></p><p><span><span>In the course of this lawsuit and its aftermath, Ellison engaged in a lot of trash-talk about Leo Apotheker, who went from being the CEO of SAP to the CEO of HP, then was fired by the HP board in late 2011. Oracle is suing Hewlett Packard Enterprise

<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>REUTERS/Mike Blake</span></p></div><p></p></div></div></p><ul class="summary-list"><li>When Amazon Web Services announced a new product called Outposts, the tech world stood up and took notice.</li><li>They saw Amazon entering into the one cloud computing market where it had no game: "Hybrid" computing, the segment of the cloud where Microsoft dominates.</li><li>But a new report by UBS analyst John Roy points out that the true disruption of Outposts is this: Amazon will be putting its own home-grown data center hardware - originally designed for its own use - into customers' private data centers.</li><li>He believes that Cisco and Dell could be hurt by the move, but Hewlett Packard <keyword id="6356323" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="enterprise">Enterprise</keyword> is at the highest risk.</li></ul><p> </p><p>Cisco, Dell and most especially Hewlett Packard Enterprise are facing yet another big threat from cloud computing giant Amazon Web Services, according to <a href="https://neo.ubs.com/shared/d2BqAJIfO7Sbo/">a new report by UBS analyst John Roy</a>.</p><p>And the name of that threat is <a href="https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20181128005680/en/Amazon-Web-Services-Announces-AWS-Outposts">Amazon Outposts.</a></p><p>Outposts was among the scores of new products and services announced by Amazon at its giant customer conference in November. <a href="https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20181128005680/en/Amazon-Web-Services-Announces-AWS-Outposts">Outposts is a service</a> where Amazon puts tenacles of its own cloud into a company's own private data center, slated to be available on the second half of 2019.</p><p>An AWS Outpost is a hardware appliance, combining servers and storage, that Amazon will plunk into customers' private data centers. The customer only rents their Outposts; Amazon manages it remotely. For IT teams, it means that they can manage their own computing infrastructure and their Amazon cloud infrastructure from the same interface, while still keeping some applications and data sequestered in their own servers.</p><p>By the same token, Outposts do integrate tightly with the main Amazon Web Services cloud, making it an easy way to transition from one to the other - another way to bring cloud holdouts into the Amazon fold. </p><p><em><strong>Read: <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/amazon-aws-outposts-2018-11">Amazon's cloud is now embracing an idea that it spent almost a decade trashing - and it's a big sign that Microsoft was right</a></strong></em></p><p>This was such an unusual move for the cloud computing giant, that Outposts <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/amazon-aws-outposts-2018-11">made a splash when it was announced. </a></p><p>The idea isn't unique: Far from it. What Outposts does is called hybrid computing and it is exactly what all of AWS's top competitors do, particularly Microsoft Azure. Hybrid computing means using the cloud for some stuff, and your own servers for other stuff. The likes of Microsoft and IBM have invested heavily in hybrid computing as a way for their customers to bridge their existing investments in the data center with the cloud. </p><p>For Amazon, however, they didn't have such concerns - Amazon Web Services all but invented the modern notion of cloud computing, and didn't have existing customers to support. As such, it spent a long time pooh-poohing hybrid cloud, choosing instead to focus its energies on the so-called public cloud. </p><p>So, when Amazon announced Outposts, the world was quick to notice that AWS is now moving into the last big cloud market that it had virtually (but not totally) ignored: hybrid computing.</p><p>Outposts is one of the results of Amazon's two-year partnership with VMware - a former competitor, turned friend, which has teamed up with Amazon Web Services to appeal to big businesses. </p><h2>Who stands to lose from AWS Outposts? </h2><p>All of this may seem like Outposts is supposed to threaten Microsoft. Microsoft is the biggest competitor of both AWS and VMware.</p><p>But, should Outposts succeed, the losers will actually be those that make data center hardware tech like Dell, Cisco and Hewlett-Packard Enterprise, points out Roy. Even Microsoft Azure relies on servers and networking gear from the major manufacturers to build its own cloud. </p><p>That's because Amazon has invested heavily in making its own servers, storage and network hardware - innovations in which Outpost customers will be able to take part. The more those customers rely on AWS Outposts, writes Roy, the less they'll need from the usual suspects in server manufacturing. </p><p>"With AWS Outpost it uses AWS hardware, which is custom designed and built by ODM [original design manafacturers, aka contract manufacturers] for AWS. For its own public cloud AWS uses its own: routers, CPU chips, storage servers, compute servers, and high-speed network. No hardware from brand name computer makers like Dell, HPE, IBM and Cisco," Roy writes.</p><p>Of those companies, Roy believes that Hewlett Packard Enterprise is the one who could be hurt most hurt and has attached a <span>roughly "negative 86%" metric to HPE's exposure. His reasoning is that almost all of HPE's business comes from selling hardware to private data centers, and customers who turn to Outposts will have less reason to keep buying it.</span><span></span></p><p><span>Data center hardware companies have spent the last decade battered by the rise of cloud computing. Some of them, like EMC, have not survived as independent companies. EMC, in particular, is now owned by Dell.</span></p><p><span>This will be a watershed year for such companies, too, Roy writes. Meg Whitman is stepping down from the CEO job at Hewlett Packard Enterprise

<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Kimberly White/Stringer/Getty Images</span></p><p class="caption">Oracle executive chairman and CTO Larry Ellison.</p></div><p></p></div></div>Hewlett Packard <keyword id="6356323" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Enterprise">Enterprise</keyword> (HPE) and Oracle are heading <a href="http://www.wsj.com/articles/trial-set-to-open-in-legal-battle-between-h-p-and-oracle-1464639770">back to court to determine</a> how much money, if any, Oracle owes HPE over a case it won in 2011.</p><p>HPE is going to ask for $3 billion in the breach-of-contract suit.</p><p>Since that last trial, Hewlett-Packard has split into two companies, HPE, which makes servers and software for enterprises, and HP Inc., which makes PCs and printers.</p><p>HPE is the company pursuing this lawsuit, which came about after Oracle hired Mark Hurd. Hurd was the former CEO of HP. He left HP amid questions involving his expense reports and allegations that he was trying to get one of HP's contract workers to date him.</p><p>Oracle had just bought Sun. Larry Ellison was friends and tennis buddies with Hurd and hired Hurd to help him turn Oracle into a hardware company. This meant Oracle was now a competitor to its former partner, HP.</p><p>Oracle said it would no longer create versions of Oracle's database for HP's most expensive, most profitable servers, built with a special Intel chip, Itanium. Many of HP's customers had bought that server specifically to run Oracle's database, which needs a powerful server to perform well. That's one of the reasons why Oracle bought hardware company, Sun, to begin with.</p><p>(Another reason it bought Sun was to get its hands on Java, Sun's popular web programming language. And that led to Oracle suing Google for billions of dollars, although <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/google-won-its-lawsuit-against-oracle-2016-5">a jury just sided with Google saying it doesn't owe Oracle any money</a>.)</p><p>In the meantime, when Oracle wanted to end support for Itanium, HP sued for breach of contract and won.</p><p>Both companies are back in court this week to determine what kind of damages, if any, HPE is owed. </p><p>HPE will argue that the confusion over support for its servers cost it $1.7 billion in sales and another $1.3 billion in lost future sales. Hewlett Packard Enterprise is suing Oracle for $3 billion

The leadership change comes as <span>Coinbase,<a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/coinbase-now-unicorn-valuation-series-d-funding-2017-8"> which has been valued by private investors at $1.6 billion,</a> experiences growing pains.</span></p><p>With bitcoin's popularity and price surging, Coinbase's cryptocurrency exchanged has struggled to cope with a flood of novice traders. </p><p><span>The exchange has had several large-scale outages in the last few months, including this week, after bitcoin prices surged above $11,000 and then crashed back down around $9,000. On Wednesday, many Coinbase users <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/bitcoin-price-gemini-exchange-coinbase-login-issues">found themselves locked out of their accounts</a> and unable to trade. </span><span></span></p><p>The company has also faced challenges from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), which on Wednesday<a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/coinbase-must-give-bitcoin-customer-information-irs-taxes-2017-11"> won a year-long battle</a> over its request for transaction information on more than 14,000 high-rolling Coinbase traders. </p><p><span>Hirji joins from the famed venture capital firm and Coinbase investor Andreessen Horowitz, where he was a partner. In 2017, an HP executive apologized to salespeople about the ongoing problems in a mass email.</li><li>This week, the court approved a $25 million settlement. Both HP and HPE have also promised to fix their pay tracking systems.</li></ul><p>About 2,000 of HP's and Hewlett-Packard <keyword id="6356323" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="enterprise">Enterprise</keyword>'s salespeople will finally be getting their share of a $25 million settlement paid to them by the two companies.</p><p>Salespeople had first sued over problems with pay nine years ago, before HP had split into two companies.</p><p>In 2017, HP agreed to the $25 million settlement, from which the lawyers will take their cut -  but it was just this week that the court approved the settlement arrangement. That means the money should be soon forthcoming to the plaintiffs at last, according to the final court documents seen by Business Insider.</p><p>The company's salespeople had originally sued, claiming that the company's antiquated computer systems were not doing a good job of calculating their commissions. </p><p>They continued to complain about HP's sales and commission-tracking computer systems for years after they first filed suit.</p><p><em><strong>Read: </strong></em><strong><a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/microsoft-ceo-satya-nadella-describes-two-new-types-of-business-software-2019-1">Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella describes 2 new kinds of software that will change everything for businesses</a></strong></p><p>Business Insider <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/hewlett-packard-enterprise-salespeople-nightmare-sales-tracking-system-2016-7">reported on the situation in 2016,</a> including reporting on a meeting between the company's then-CEO Meg Whitman and her sales leadership team, who lambasted her about the situation. That meeting took place six months after Whitman split the company into two. Thousands of members of the salesforce were not properly being paid properly at that time, the sales managers told her, according to sources.</p><p>The wacky pay situation was so bad that some salespeople couldn't make their mortgages and were facing foreclosure, while others were behind in their alimony payments, salespeople told us. HPE had even wrongly told one salesperson that he owed the company over $130,000 after the first quarter of 2016, sources told us.</p><p>A year later, on April 27, 2017, the pay situation was still so bad that Cheryl Brown, then the vice president and COO of HPE's Americas Enterprise Group, sent an email to the North American troops and apologized,<a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/hpe-apologizes-to-salespeople-for-messed-up-compensation-system-2017-5"> according to an email seen by Business Insider</a>. Brown left HPE in October, according <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/cherylbrown3/">to her LinkedIn.</a></p><p>Back in 2017, an HPE spokesperson told Business Insider that the company had been paying people properly and on time, and said that the paper records were apparently wrong. That same year, however, HPE settled the case.</p><p>A spokesperson for HPE tells Business Insider: "HPE is pleased that the mediated resolution in this dispute that was reached by the parties in 2017 has been approved by the Court."</p><p>A spokesperson for Franklin Azar, one of the lawyers that handled the class-action suit on behalf of the plaintiff, former HP salesperson Jeff Wall, tells us that salespeople will be getting more than a token settlement.</p><p>Their cut of the money is based on the last 30 days of their average salary and other variables. Some people are getting several thousand dollars, and others are getting "considerably" more, this spokesperson said.</p><p>HP and HPE will also pay almost $1.2 million of the settlement in penalties to the State of California Labor &amp; Workforce Development Agency (LWDA), according to court documents. The companies have also promised to fix their commission tracking systems.</p><p>Meg Whitman stepped down from the HPE CEO role in February, 2018. <p>It reported EPS of $0.88. That's right on target. </p>
<p>Analysts were expecting EPS of $0.88 cents and basically flat revenue of $27.41 billion, shrinking 0.6% over the year ago quarter. HP had offered guidance for this quarter that non-GAAP EPS would come in at $0.85 to $0.89 and GAAP would land in the range of $0.62 to $0.66.</p>
