Five people have so far tested positive for <keyword id="1754604" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="coronavirus">coronavirus</keyword> in Assam, who attended the congregation at Nizamuddin in Delhi and the number of positive cases in the state might cross the double digit, <keyword id="4437663" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="assam-health">Assam Health</keyword> Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Wednesday. Search is also on to trace out the other unidentified people who have attended the congregation. He said four more persons from Assam, who have attended the congregation but still remained in Delhi, have also tested positive for coronavirus. "Of the five tested positive for COVID-19, a 52-year-old man is undergoing treatment at the <keyword id="973577" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Silchar-Medical-College">Silchar Medical College</keyword> and Hospital after his samples tested positive on Tuesday. The four people who tested positive for on Wednesday are also undergoing treatment in different medical colleges and hospitals," the Health Minister said. The four people are aged between 19 to 55 years. According to the ministers and officials of different northeastern states, over 500 people from several northeastern states, mostly from Assam, have either attended or visited the vicinity at the religious congregation organised by the Tablighi Jamaat in Delhi forcing all the seven northeastern states to launch an all-out search to identify and test the samples of these attendees. The attendees' family members and the people they came in close contact are also being examined or sent to quarantine. Only then did the Jamaat officials go to the authorities to file an application for passes to vacate the area — including 17 passes for vehicles to assist in transportation. Before evacuation could happen, a 65-year old Indian preacher who attended the religious event died after testing positive for Coronavirus in Jammu and Kashmir’s Srinagar on March 26. The sub-district magistrate visited the Markaz to call Jamaat officials to meet the district magistrate. They agreed to allow the movement of vehicles so that people can be evacuated from the mosque. Evacuation of Markaz Tablighi Jamaat According to the Delhi Police, they sent two notices, on March 23 and March 28, to the mosque committee asking them to vacate, but were ignored. "Out of the 456 people, 230 have been identified and 68 have not yet returned to the state. Of the 230 people, swab samples of 196 were collected and these are being tested," Sarma said. Search is also on to trace out the other unidentified people who have attended the congregation. The minister said four more persons from Assam, who have attended the congregation but still remained in Delhi, have also tested positive for nCov. "Of the five tested positive (till Wednesday morning) for COVID-19, a 52-year-old man is undergoing treatment at the Silchar Medical College and Hospital after his samples tested positive on Tuesday. The four people who tested positive for on Wednesday are also undergoing treatment in different medical colleges and hospitals," Sarma said. These people are aged between 19 to 55 years. According to the ministers and officials of different northeastern states, over 500 people from several northeastern states, mostly from Assam, have either attended or visited the vicinity at the religious congregation organised by the Tablighi Jamaat in Delhi forcing all the seven northeastern states to launch an all-out search to identify and test the samples of these attendees. The attendees' family members and the people they came in close contact are also being examined or sent to quarantine. In Tripura, Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath said at least 22 people from Tripura attended or went to the hotspot at Nizamuddin in Delhi. According to the Minister, 15 of the 22 people identified and their swab samples were tested negative. Authorities are looking for the remaining seven. Assam Coronavirus cases rise to 16 after 3 Tablighi attendees test positive

New Delhi, Apr 19 () A noted lawyer of the Delhi High Court has offered his property in the posh Nizamuddin area to be used as a quarantine centre for doctors and medical professionals in the forefront of the COVID-19 fight. Advocate M Sufian Siddiqui offered his entire property in Nizamuddin West area having over 15 rooms, all fitted with modern amenities and attached bathrooms, for one month for free of cost. "Considerably, I am albeit cognizant of the fact that this humble offer of contribution in our nation's fight against the global pandemic may be a drop in the ocean. However, I am also conscious of the fact that at this climacteric, humanity needs solidarity," he said in identical letters addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. The lawyer, who is known for giving pro bono services to the weak and marginalised sections of the society in the Delhi High Court, said this mammoth fight against the COVID-19 pandemic could only be countenanced to be won, if "we all stand united as one and act in solidarity" lest the entire humanity might have to pay an unfathomable price. "However, owing to the ubiquitous consternation looming across the globe including our country, I being a solicitous citizen am profoundly concerned about the frontline warriors viz. doctors, paramedics, nurses, health care workers, support staff who are selflessly and relentlessly working...by putting their lives in danger," he said. Siddiqui said the property, situated outside containment zones, has comfortable access for ambulance and is at a stone's throw away from the Hazrat Nizamuddin Police Station. It is also in close proximity to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in case the need arises to ambulate any quarantined person. "Consequently, at this crucial juncture, I earnestly feel that showing solidarity by strictly adhering to the instructions of the Government is sacrosanct to the very substratum of humanity. Hence, as a concerned citizen, I wholeheartedly feel that when the entire humanity is at peril then the service to the humanity being the greatest service indeed becomes indispensable, which would indubitably not only be in the national interest but also in the interest of the whole of humanity," he said. New Delhi, May 15 () The Delhi High Court was informed on Friday that the AAP government has decided to release the members of Tablighi Jamaat, who have completed mandatory quarantine and show no coronavirus symptoms.The submission was made at the outset of the hearing on a petition seeking release of nearly 3300 Tablighi Jamaat members, who have been put under various quarantine centers for nearly 40 days and not released despite negative reports of COVID-19.A bench of Chief Justice D N Patel and Justice C Hari Shankar, which conducted the hearing through video conferencing, was told by the counsel for the petitioner that they wish to withdraw the petition as the Delhi government has already directed for release of Tablighi Jamaat members who do not show any symptoms of COVID-19.The court allowed petitioner Sabiha Quadri, a social worker, to withdraw the plea.The plea, filed through advocate Shahid Ali, had alleged that many people have been illegally lodged in quarantine centers and submitted that several persons who are staying in those centers have written letters to the authorities but they have not been considered.It had sought direction to the authorities to comply with the guidelines of 14 days quarantine and to constitute a high level committee to enquire as to whether continuous confinement of members of Tablighi Jamaat is violative of the provisions of the Constitution.After being exposed to a large gathering on March 31 amid the COVID-19 or coronavirus lockdown many members of Tablighi Jamaat from Markaz Hazrat Nizamuddin were taken out by the authorities and lodged in different quarantine centres in Delhi. Some of them were sent to the centres a few days later after being detained from various mosques."A total of 3288 people from Tablighi Jamaat have been put under different quarantine centers and till date none has been released from there, despite the fact that they are not in any manner infected with the disease (coronavirus) and in case of many members, three consecutive reports with negative endorsement have come," the plea said.The Centre was represented through advocate Amit Mahajan in the proceedings.On May 6, the Delhi government had said the Tablighi Jamaat members who have completed mandatory quarantine and show no coronavirus symptoms can go home.In April, COVID-19 cases in Delhi spiked after hundreds of many Tablighi Jamaat members, who had attended a large congregation in Nizamuddin, tested positive.
