Cozy bedding startup Parachute is now making eco-friendly, plush mattresses - here's what they're like to sleep on

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Walmart has added automatic replenishment to its online ordering options.</li><li>The move comes 16 years after Amazon unveiled a similar subscription offering.</li></ul><p>Walmart now lets you order items through a subscription — something that Amazon has offered for years.</p><p>The retailer touted the service on Wednesday as a recent addition to its smartphone app <a target="_blank" href="https://corporate.walmart.com/news/2023/09/20/life-hacks-unleashed-5-ways-the-walmart-app-simplifies-life">in a blog post.</a> It's meant to save customers the hassle of going to a store for frequently bought items, like toilet paper and dog food, every week or every month, the company said.</p><p>"From pet food and supplements to diapers and paper towels, Walmart subscriptions guarantee automatic scheduled delivery on a customer's preferred cadence, whether it's every two weeks or every two months," Walmart says in its blog post.</p><p>Items ordered through subscriptions are eligible for free shipping on orders over $35, according to the <a target="_blank" href="https://affiliate.insider.com?h=2703e4304146efce90b8fefa55b984a69b1c86e705db0fef46240d0f4bb4c93e&amp;postID=6511a383135a312268e304ea&amp;postSlug=walmart-gets-into-the-replenishment-game-16-years-after-amazon-2023-9&amp;site=bi&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.walmart.com%2Fcp%2Fsubscriptions%2F4191733">retailer's website.</a> Walmart+ subscribers get free shipping on all orders, regardless of their value.</p><p>The replenishment model is one way retailers try to get more of a shopper's spending. </p><p>"It becomes this great flywheel of sales and profits, in which one or two subscriptions can blossom into many more (in my case, more than 40)," Kevin Coupe, author of the MorningNewsBeat newsletter, which covers developments in the retail industry, <a target="_blank" href="https://morningnewsbeat.com/2023/09/22/">wrote on Friday.</a></p><p>But Walmart is also far behind one of its biggest rivals in introducing the option. Amazon started its <a target="_blank" href="https://press.aboutamazon.com/2007/5/amazon-coms-grocery-store-launches-new-subscribe-save-feature-allowing-automatic-fulfillment-of-most-popular-items">"Subscribe &amp; Save"</a> program in 2007.</p><p>That first iteration of the service allowed customers to have a selection of dry grocery items delivered at a few different intervals, ranging from one to six months. It also offers customers a discount for buying at least five products together in the same auto-ship order. The offering still exists today.</p><p>Walmart has expanded multiple offerings to compete with Amazon in recent years. It launched <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/walmart-pushes-employees-to-enroll-in-its-amazon-prime-rival-2022-8">Walmart+,</a> a subscription service that provides free delivery and other benefits, in 2020. Amazon launched Prime, its own subscription service, in 2005.</p><p>It has also built out its own network of independent contractor delivery workers through Spark after <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/doordash-ends-partnership-with-walmart-after-delivering-groceries-for-4-years-2022-8">parting ways with DoorDash</a> last year. The app delivers organic products including milk, eggs and bread, among others. The app provides free delivery everyday in the morning at 7 am. It also lets the user order till midnight.<br /><br />The services allow to choose from over 40 varieties of milk — including organic products and brands like Mother Dairy, Amul, Nestle.<br /><br /><strong>Grofers</strong><br /><br />Grofers is an online grocery store delivering across 21 cities in India — including Delhi, Gurgaon, Mumbai and Bangalore. This App Delivers Hot Pizza To Your Door With Literally One Push

New Delhi, Apr 16 () Online food delivery, the silver lining to the economic gloom set in by the coronavirus pandemic, is likely to take a massive blow in the capital after news of a pizza delivery agent testing COVID-19 positive in south Delhi went viral and raised alarm bells in the minds of the already terrified people.<p>A total of 89 people have been put under quarantine after a 19-year-old delivery agent from a restaurant in Malviya Nagar tested positive for the virus on April 14. </p><p>Many Delhitees on Thursday woke up to a barrage of messages on their WhatsApp groups strictly advising them not to order food from outside anymore.</p><p>"Our area is largely an open colony, so we cannot check everybody who is coming in. We have circulated the news clippings in the whatsapp groups, with a message: "Bhai, thode din ghar ka bana hi kha lo. Fizool main quarantine hone ka koi faida nahi hai" (Please for some days eat home-made food only, you won't be serving any purpose being quarantined due to this)," BS Vohra, East-Delhi RWAs Joint Front told .</p><p>"We have been talking about this news in the RWA whatsapp group since morning, but we don't know how to stop this. The government can perhaps take some steps, or at least instruct us to deploy some measures," he added.</p><p>While many had already bid goodbye to outside food after the lockdown was announced on March 24, there were others who couldn't resist the temptation for a meal from a restaurant at least on a few days.</p><p>But not anymore as they realise that hassle-free not always translates into risk-free, especially amid a global pandemic.</p><p>"My daughter is a big foodie. She would always pester me to order momos or burgers for outside. Many times I would try to entice her with home-made snacks. But it won't always work. So there were days when we ordered food online.    </p><p>"Today when I watched this news of the delivery agent getting infected, I made it clear to my daughter that we won't be ordering online from now. She understood and agreed," said Vandana Thapa, a homemaker in her 40s.</p><p>Looking at the severity of the situation and fearing a dip in their online orders, food delivery platforms and several restaurants have reached out to their customers to reassure them of all the precautions taken at their end for their safety and well-being.</p><p>Zomato, the online platform service whose partner restaurant's delivery agent has tested positive in this incident, said they are constantly training their delivery partners on safety and hygiene in addition to providing masks to them.</p><p>"Fifty thousand plus restaurants which cover a majority of our order volume have set up hand sanitisation stations for delivery partners. We continue to ramp up our safety practices as we speak," a Zomato spokesperson told .</p><p>The food delivery platform on Wednesday launched a new safety feature where users can see the body temperature of their delivery partner on its app.</p><p>That said, they did acknowledge that despite "best efforts'' home deliveries of essential services like food and grocery cannot be "risk-free".</p><p>"Customers should be cognisant of the risks involved and follow careful package handling practices if they are getting anything home delivered," he added.</p><p>Pizza giant Domino's or restaurants like The Baker's Dozen, Out Of The Blue and Deli By The Blue also reassured their customers by listing out all the safety measures in place.</p><p>"Understanding the current situation, we have taken some important measures for our staff and senior members and have made them stay quarantined at Hotel Le Sutra to maintain the utmost care and cleanliness discipline," said Rahul Bajaj, director and conceptualiser at Out Of The Blue and Deli By The Blue.</p><p>But the fear that the incident would dent the food industry business further was palpable among many restauranteurs. </p><p>According to Karan Tanna, founder of Ghost Kitchens, there would be a drop of more than 50 per cent in people ordering food online. The sector had already seen a drastic drop due to the spread of coronavirus.</p><p>Anurag Katriar, president, National Restaurant Association of India (NRAI), too took notice of the event and admitted of "some impact of the incident on the consumer's mind".</p><p>However, Katriar used the analogy that like medical professionals, anyone working on ground zero can contract the virus and that it was no different for the delivery agent in question.</p><p>"Ideally, if medical services are not getting impacted when their staff is infected, this incident should not impact the restaurant deliveries either, but in the minds of the people the essentiality of the two services is different and rightly so.</p><p>"We have been very steadfast in our advisories to the restaurants, which was reiterated last evening that they need to follow the strictest form of hygiene with services and as well as goods," he added.</p>The novel coronavirus has infected more than 12,300 people and claimed at least 400 lives. (Eds: Updates with order withdrawn) <p>New Delhi, Mar 26 () Hours after allowing several online retail firms to re-start their delivery services, the Delhi police on Thursday withdrew its previous order with "immediate effect", officials said.</p><p>The police had issued a statement directing its personnel to allow persons and vehicles engaged in essential services to operate in Delhi and listed names of retailers and online delivery services that should be allowed to function.</p><p>However, the order was withdrawn with immediate effect hours after it was issued, stating that the revised guidelines will be released and all traffic, picket and beat staff would be briefed accordingly.</p><p>The police did not cite any reason for withdrawing its previous order, but a senior police official said essential supplies would continue and a uniform order across states would be issued soon.</p><p>This comes a day after the Delhi police held a meeting with representatives of e-commerce platforms to ensure uninterrupted supply of essential goods and services during the 21-day lockdown enforced to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus.</p><p>Zomato, Flipkart, Amazon, 24Seven, Blue Dart, DTDC, Wow Express, Swiggy, Grofers, BigBasket, MilkBaasket, Dunzo, Big Bazaar, Snapdeal, Licious, Medlife, Pharmeasy, UrbanClap, Ninjacart, Honsa Conumer Pvt. Limited, Healthians Diagnostics, Delhivery Pvt Limited, Nutrimoo Milk Dairy, More Retail Limited, Easyday, Jabong, Myntra, Spencer's, Reliance Fresh, Jubilant Food Works, Foodpanda, Faaso's, Pizza Hut, Uber Eats, Needs Supermart Pvt Limited, 1MG, Dr. Lal Path Labs, Max-Path, Satvacart, Iifco and other e-commerce retailers and operators were allowed to function in the national capital, according the now-withdrawn order.</p><p>Police have set up a platform on WhatsApp for e-commerce websites to solve their issues and delivery agents were being issued passes for hassle-free movement.</p><p>The government announced a 21-day nationwide lockdown since Wednesday, saying social distancing is the only way out for the country in its decisive battle against the coronavirus pandemic.</p>The novel coronavirus cases in the country climbed to 649 on Wednesday. How to order food on ONDC: A step-by-step guide

Instead, they should just take a photo of an item they want to mail, press a button to summon a local delivery person, and have their package whisked away. </p><p>The service, which raised $12.1 million from venture capitalists, is currently available in New York City, Miami and San Francisco with Los Angeles launching soon. It costs $5 per package plus the cost of shipping so it's more expensive than just visiting the post office yourself.  (<span style="line-height: 1.5em;">Most packages can be shipped for just over $5 at USPS stores, so Shyp more or less doubles the cost). But the app saves you the hassle of figuring out which hours the post office is open and lugging bulky items to it. It's similar to another popular startup, Postmates. But Postmates only delivers packages locally. Shyp will send your items anywhere in the United States, like FedEx or UPS.</span></p><p>We tried Shyp to mail a small package, an iPhone and a charger, to another state. It worked perfectly.</p><p>When you login to the app, you're prompted to add a new shipment. Type in the recipient's address and snap a photo of what you're sending. You can then choose to send the item express by a guaranteed date for 3-6X more or economy for 3-7 day shipping. You can also get shipping cost estimates by typing in the item's height, depth and weight.</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container"><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></p><p>As soon you hit "Pickup Now," the app begins locating a Shyp Hero - a Shyp delivery person - to come get your package. The wait time in New York is usually about 15 minutes. <p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Jonathan Alcorn/Reuters</span></p><p class="caption">People waiting to enter a Michael Kors store during day-after-Christmas sales.</p></div><p></p></div></div>Retailers are facing a puzzle.</p><p>Theoretically consumers should have more money in their pockets from low gas prices, low unemployment, and (slowly) increasing wages.</p><p>Despite all of these tailwinds, retailers have been reporting <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/why-retail-is-a-hard-business-2015-11">generally disappointing earnings</a>.</p><p>So why are many traditional retailers flailing given favorable economic trends?</p><p>According to Michael Kors CEO John Idol, it comes down to one thing: <strong>online sales.</strong></p><p>"U<span>nfortunately today, e-commerce generates a lower operating profit for us than four-wall brick-and-mortar," he said Tuesday during his <a href="http://seekingalpha.com/article/3856816-michael-kors-holdings-kors-john-d-idol-q3-2016-results-earnings-call-transcript?part=single">company's quarterly earnings call</a>.</span></p><p><span>Idol added: "We think over time that will reverse itself, but, as you know, <strong>when the consumer requires free delivery, free return, wonderful packaging, plus there's a new trend that people are buying multiple sizes of things to try them out at home and then return them, that all is a negative headwind for us."</strong></span></p><p><span>It's pretty simple: There is a <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/amazon-compared-to-traditional-retail-in-one-chart-2015-11">systemic shift</a> from in-store buying <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/chart-shows-dismal-state-retail-earnings-2015-10">to online shopping</a>. For retailers, online shopping is a money-losing hassle, but customers love it. And customer expectations - consider the "order four sizes, try them on, and send three back" plan Idol lays out - are only getting higher.</span></p><p><span>Amazon, the giant of online <keyword id="6354851" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Retail">retail</keyword>, has always had <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/heres-how-amazon-generated-the-surprise-profit-2015-7">razor-thin margins</a>.
