The city-based Raja Narayanlal Lahoti English School, where the boy studies in Class 9, felicitated him on December 20. The tournament, hosted on www.Lichess.org, saw enthusiastic response from chess players from cities like Mumbai, Noida, Nagpur, Hyderabad. Donations also came in from the Immortal Chess Forum, the release said. Over 80 chess players and enthusiasts contributed Rs 1.05 lakh to be donated to the PM Cares Fund. Sixteen-year-old Vedant Panesar, Adarsh Tripathi and Yash Srivastava, who conceived the idea, said through the initiative they wanted "contribute in a small way to the cause." On his part, Ramesh said "Chess Gurukul" was collecting funds from those interested and the chess community at large in order to provide services to people affected by the coronavirus. "Special thanks to GM Harikrishna @HariChess and GM Karthikeyan Murali @KarthikeyanM64 for contributing RS.2,00,000/- and RS.25,000/- respectively to Corona virus relief," Ramesh tweeted. "Chess Gurukul Charitable trust is collecting funds from interested public &amp; Chess community to serve the society in these difficult circumstances. The India-Russia chess duel for the Online Olympiad gold came to a dramatic finish on Sunday with the global chess body announcing them as joint winners. "We had asked for a fair solution - a replay of three games," he added. "Two of the Indian players have been affected and lost connection, when the outcome of the match was still unclear. After being informed of their considerations and in absence of an unanimous decision, and taken into account these unprecedented circumstances, as FIDE President I made the decision to award Gold Medals to both teams," he said. Meanwhile, the finals between India and Russia began in the evening. The first match ended with a score of 3-3 with all the six games ending in a draw. Humpy, after securing an exchange advantage, sacrificed her queen for two bishops to have rooks against the Russian's queen. However, the clock was ticking against Humpy and on the 41st move, she missed out a winning line. Soon the game ended in a draw with perpetual checks by the Russian. All other games - Vidit Santosh Gujrathi vs Ian Nepomniachtchi, P. Harikrishna vs Vladislav Artemiev, D. Harika vs Alexandra Kosteniuk, R. India, Russia declared joint winners in FIDE Online Chess Olympiad

Chennai, May 18 () A total of Rs 1.21 lakh has been raised through a 72-hour-marathon online chess event organised by young Tamil Nadu Grandmaster P Iniyan to raise funds for relief work related to the COVID-19 pandemic. The money would go to the PM CARES Fund and the state chief minister's relief fund. The fundraiser event, because of various time zones across the globe, began at 2.30 pm IST on May 15 (Friday) and concluded on Monday. Players and non-players contributing to the cause through the event added up to Rs 1,21,199, a press release said. Apart from this amount, Iniyan, on his part, is separately contributing Rs 20,000 to the welfare of Erode district, from where he comes. Iniyan played 271 games overall - 250 wins, 12 losses, 9 draws - and was engaged in the event for more than 72 hours. All the games were played in the Blitz time control (3 minutes and 2 seconds increment for each player). The event was hosted by technology partner Internet chess club (www.chessclub.com). Besides India, chess players from various countries including USA, Australia, UAE, Germany, Denmark, Scotland, Kuwait, Singapore and Switzerland participated in the event. Several Indian GMs including P Harikrishna, B Adhiban, Arvind Chithambaram, D Harika and others extended their support to the 17-year old Iniyan's initiative. The satellite weighs about 33.39 grams which is lighter than a medium-sized egg. It has a 3D printed outer casing made of Polylactic Acid Nylon material. This might also be the cheapest satellite as the students spent just ₹15,000 to make it. The 4 centimetre cube satellite is named Jaihind-1S. The developers of the satellite, KJ Harikrishna, T Giri Prasad, G Sudhi and P Amarnath are in their first year of pursuing Aerospace engineering from the Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science, near <keyword id="12864" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Chennai">Chennai</keyword>. They were helped by a faculty advisor, Professor G Dinesh Kumar. They built the satellite for a competition that was organised in January by the Colorado Space Grant Consortium, NASA and iDoodle, called ‘Cubes in Space’. Along with this satellite, 99 other space experiments, that were submitted for the competition, have been selected by NASA to be launched. The <a href="https://m.economictimes.com/news/science/nasa-launches-worlds-lightest-satellite-designed-by-18-year-old-tamil-nadu-student/smallest-3d-printed-satellite/amp_slideshow/59283141.cms">previous most lightweight satellite </a>that Jaihind-1S beat was also developed by a student from <keyword id="20154" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="tamil-nadu">Tamil Nadu</keyword>, Rifath Sharook, and was launched under the same competition in 2017. It weighed about 64 grams. The four students used locally sourced materials and though the inception of the satellite began one year ago, they took just two weeks to assemble the satellite and feed in the program. The students conducted a lot of ‘local‘ tests on the satellite by putting it in the fridge, lighting it up with fire and using a balloon to raise it to an altitude of 40 kilometres. After the tests, the students were sure that the nylon they used will be able to sustain itself in space. The satellite will be dispatched to NASA next month for the final showdown. NASA will be taking the satellite to a 70-kilometres high altitude using a balloon. The <a href="https://www.thehindu.com/news/cities/chennai/chennai-students-design-satellite-that-will-go-to-space/article24260502.ece/amp/">sensor modules</a> in the satellite have the exceptional quality of measuring four parameters per second - temperature, humidity, pressure and UV rays. It will also track the movement and trajectory of the balloon. The data will be stored simultaneously in an SD card attached with the satellite, with the help of a microcontroller. Once the 70 km high journey of about 15- 20 hours is completed, the satellite will disengage and fall. It will then be collected to retrieve data and to assess the nylon’s durability in space.
