An all-party meeting convened by <keyword id="48510" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Rajya-Sabha">Rajya Sabha</keyword> Chairman <keyword id="6491214" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Hamid-Ansari">Hamid Ansari</keyword> today failed to break the impasse on the passage of the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=GST+bill">GST bill</a>, however, Ansari still called the meeting good because members of the Upper House decided to pass six other pending bills in the remaining period of three days of the Winter Session. 
 
"There has been a very meaningful discussion in the meeting. A number of parties have expressed concern over <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Parliament+">Parliament</a> not functioning. All of them decided that the House should function. It has been decided to pass the pending government bills even by sitting for late hours," Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi told reporters after the meeting. 
 Asked about the crucial <keyword id="6354679" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="GST">GST</keyword> bill, Naqvi said that Finance Minister <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Arun+Jaitley+">Arun Jaitley</a> made an appeal to the opposition to pass the constitution bill as well in the conducive atmosphere that has emerged after the meeting. 
 
"But, I don't think the main opposition party has an agreement on this. They have not cleared their position," he said. 
 
In the meeting, the members decided to pass the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Amendment Bill, the Appropriation Bills, the Anti Hijacking Bill, the Atomic Energy Amendment Bill, the Commercial Courts Ordinance Bill and the Arbitration and Conciliation Amendment Bill during the next week, sources said. 
 
Leader of Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad said, "nothing new was discussed at this meeting apart from what was discussed at the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting." 
 
When asked whether Congress has agreed to passage of some bills, he said that some of the bills on which his party has committed support like the SC/ST bill will be passed alongwith Appropriation Bill. 
 
"There is no decision on GST," Azad said. 
 
Sources add that it was also decided that three bills - the Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Amendment Bill, the Whistle Blowers Protection Amendment Bill and the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Bill, will be discussed during the remaining period but the course of action will be decided upon later. 
 
During the meeting it was also decided that discussions on matters of public importance like price rise, impact of flood and drought on agriculture, intolerance and a discussion on the developments in Arunachal Pradesh will also be taken up during the last three days. 
 
Naqvi said that members have agreed to compensate for the loss of legislative business in the House by working for extra hours during the last days. 
 
Asked if the issue of giving more powers to Rajya Sabha Chairman to act against members disrupting the House was discussed at the meeting, he replied in the negative.

No consensus on GST at all-party meet convened by Vice President Hamid Ansari

<keyword id="3658" type="COUNTRY" weightage="80" keywordseo="India">India</keyword>'s military prowess and the country's diverse cultural heritage were on display at the 67th <keyword id="6416557" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Republic-day">Republic Day</keyword> parade on the magnificent Rajpath boulevard here on Tuesday at which visiting French President Francois Hollande was the chief guest. 
 
For the first time, a contingent from the French 35th Infantry Regiment was given the honour of leading the marching contingents and it performed with panache, preceded by a pipes and drums band and saluting in a rather unusual style with the hand held straight across the chest. 
 The celebrations began with Prime Minister <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword> driving to the Amar Jawan Jyoti memorial to the Unknown Soldier at India Gate and laying a wreath in honour of the countless Indian soldiers who have died in battles since World War I. 
 Modi then drove up to the saluting base to receive President <keyword id="6359124" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Pranab-Mukherjee">Pranab Mukherjee</keyword> and President Francois Hollande. 
 
The President's Bodyguard presented the national salute, the tricolour was unfurled and the national anthem was played to set the tone for a rather poignant moment - the posthumous presentation of the Ashok Chakra, the country's highest gallantry award in peacetime. It was presented this year to the widow of Lance Naik Mohan Nath Goswami of the Parachute Regiment, who laid down his life while fighting terrorists in the Kashmir Valley last September. 
 
The emotion on Mukherjee's face was visible as he presented the medal and the citation to Goswami's widow. 
 
The French apart, there was much that was different this time around. The marching contingents were fewer, as were the massed bands. 
 
Then, instead of a marching continent of ex-servicemen, there was a tableau dedicated to them in the first part of the parade, an army dog squad with handlers made an appearance after 26 years, and the camel-mounted troopers of the Border Security Force made up the rear element of the parade's military element. 
 
In another break with tradition, the young recipients of the National Awards for Bravery came up towards the end, followed by the children's pageant, a daredevil motorcycle display by the Corps of Signals, and a grand flypast by fighters, heavy-lift transports and helicopters of the Indian Air Force. 
 Vice President <keyword id="6491214" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Hamid-Ansari">Hamid Ansari</keyword>, the three service chiefs, Congress president <keyword id="689" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Sonia-Gandhi">Sonia Gandhi</keyword>, cabinet ministers, a host of dignitaries and a group of women achievers seated in a special enclosure were on hand to witness the hour-and-half long parade.

India displays cultural heritage, military prowess on Republic Day

Prime Minister <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword> greeted the nation on the occasion of <keyword id="6416557" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Republic-day">Republic Day</keyword> on Tuesday and said he saluted "all great personalities who framed our constitution". 
 
"Republic Day greetings to all my fellow Indians," Modi tweeted. 
 
 "Tributes to all the great personalities who framed our Constitution. I salute Dr. Ambedkar for his efforts as chairman of the Drafting Committee," he added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addresses the nation on Republic Day

Proceedings of the Rajya Sabha were disrupted on the first day of the Monsoon session which began on Tuesday, with Opposition <keyword id="1575" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Congress">Congress</keyword> demanding the resignation of External Affairs Minister <keyword id="6355111" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Sushma-Swaraj">Sushma Swaraj</keyword> over the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Congress-steps-up-ante-against-PM-Modi-Sushma-Swaraj-over-Lalit-Modi-row/articleshow/47721666.cms">Lalit Modi</a> controversy and the BJP accusing it of "running away" from a debate on it, reported PTI. 
 
Congress members forced three adjournments in the pre-lunch session making both Question Hour and Zero Hour a casualty. However, Leader of the House, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Finance-Minister-Arun-Jaitley-presents-one-year-report-card-of-his-ministry/articleshow/47382842.cms">Arun Jaitley</a> offered to resolve the matter by saying that Swaraj could make a statement on the issue. 
 
Jaitley said: "Please start a discussion immediately. You don't want a discussion.... You don't have to press your case for a discussion. I am making an offer and would suggest ... if they want to start a discussion, then start it immediately. If they want a statement from the External Affairs Minister, we are ready for it. Sushma Swaraj will make a statement within five minutes." 
 However, Congress members continued to disrupt the proceedings of the House. Chairman <keyword id="6491214" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Hamid-Ansari">Hamid Ansari</keyword> urged them to allow the Question Hour to function. Ansari later adjourned the House till 2 p.m. 
 
As soon as the House assembled in the morning, Congress members were on their feet targetting the NDA government on the matter and raising questions over its "probity". 
 
They reminded the ruling dispensation of the assurances given by Prime Minister <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Shiv-Sena-wantsModi-to-expose-truth-behind-Sushma-Swaraj-controversy/articleshow/47691317.cms">Narendra Modi</a> to ensure transparency and accountability in governance. 
 Raising the matter soon after the obituary references, Congress leader <keyword id="6409376" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Anand-Sharma">Anand Sharma</keyword> demanded a reply from PM. 
 He asked why the External Affairs Minister requested the British government to issue travel documents to <keyword id="3257" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Lalit-Modi">Lalit Modi</keyword> within in two and half months of NDA coming to power. 
 
Sharma also raised the issue of affidavit signed by Rajasthan Chief Minister <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/In-Modis-India-Green-Shoots-Of-Reforms-Come-From-Rajasthan/articleshow/45267736.cms">Vasundhara Raje</a> favouring Lalit Modi. 
 
"The PM had assured to ensure transparecy, accountability in governance and acting against those indulging in corrupt practices... Where is the probity left? You have violated the dignity," he said. 
 
Amid objections from the treasury benches to his remarks, Congress members trooped into the Well of the House and raising slogans for her removal. 
 Sharma also questioned the "humanitarian grounds" on which Britain was requested to issue the travel documents to Lalit Modi, alleging that the former <keyword id="6354312" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="IPL">IPL</keyword> chief was travelling around the world as if "on a pleasure trip and as a tourist".

Day 1 of monsoon session: Rajya Sabha proceedings disrupted over Lalit Modi issue

It will be her first meeting with Modi after he took over as Prime Minister on May 26. She will also meet Vice-President <keyword id="6491214" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Hamid-Ansari">Hamid Ansari</keyword>. 
 
Before leaving for Delhi, Patel will inaugurate an agriculture conclave for female farmers under Krishi Mahotsav (agriculture fair), being held in the state capital of Gandhinagar. She will also felicitate distinctive women involved in farming and cattle-rearing.

Gujarat CM Anandi Patel To Meet Narendra

NEW DELHI: He was one of the 4,500 guests but Delhi CM <keyword id="260213" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Arvind-Kejriwal">Arvind Kejriwal</keyword>, in his maiden outing at President <keyword id="9937" type="COMPANY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Pranab">Pranab</keyword> Mukherjee’s ‘At Home’, stole the show. 
 
Wearing his trademark maroon sweater, muffler and floaters, Kejriwal stood in the sprawling Mughal Gardens as India’s swish set vied for autographs, pictures and sometimes just a handshake with him. 
 
It was a power moment that no one in the establishment may have imagined. Two years ago, Kejriwal had negotiated with Mukherjee, chairman of the joint drafting committee, on the Lokpal bill and had returned empty-handed. On Saturday, the two displayed a public difference of opinion. Mukherjee spoke against “populist anarchy” and Kejriwal defended his dharna as constitutional. On Sunday, as Mukherjee gave an audience to invitees from the world of diplomacy, politics, administration, arts and media, Kejriwal held a parallel durbar. 
 
Men and women showered him with unabashed praise. Several ambassadors and bureaucrats took the opportunity to introduce themselves to Kejriwal who was accompanied by his Cabinet. German ambassador Michael Steiner sought a meeting with Kejriwal for German President Joachim Gauck who is visiting India next month. The request, it emerges, was turned down by the CM’s office. Kejriwal assured him that it would be rescheduled. Another diplomat shared a joke, saying how his broken Hindi left him confused about the party’s name initially (he thought aam only meant mango). 
 The power elite gave up its pretensions, some offered him advice and encouragement, some said they were inspired and others sought his time. The CM even received a muffler as a present. The argumentative asked why he had sat in the VIP enclosure at the <keyword id="6416557" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Republic-day">Republic Day</keyword> parade or why his party’s name had no mention of the “aam aurat”. To them all, Kejriwal gave a patient ear. In fact, the <keyword id="6356115" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="AAP">AAP</keyword> durbar went on well after the President and the PM had left the venue till security personnel stepped in to guide Kejriwal to the exit. 
 
Mukherjee too was his accessible self, meeting people gathered in the Rashtrapati Bhavan lawns. Visiting Japanese PM Shinzo Abe also met the invitees. 
 Later, <keyword id="1575" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="40" keywordseo="Congress">Congress</keyword> president Sonia Gandhi and BJP leader Sushma Swaraj got up from their chairs in the VIP enclosure and mixed with the crowd. 
 Other dignitaries present were Vice-President <keyword id="6491214" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Hamid-Ansari">Hamid Ansari</keyword>, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, <keyword id="6355187" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="40" keywordseo="Lok-Sabha">Lok Sabha</keyword> Speaker Meira Kumar, home minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, besides BJP leaders L K Advani and Arun Jaitley. Cabinet ministers P Chidambaram, Veerappa Moily and A K Antony were also present. 
 
Sources said close to 4,500 people had turned up. Rashtrapati Bhavan had issued e-invites this year and the entrances were manned by bar-code scanning personnel. About 60% of the invites were sent out through e-mail, bringing down costs and resources as part of Rashtrapati Bhavan’s greening exercise.

Republic Day: President Pranab Hosts The Show, Kejriwal Steals It

India's military might and rich cultural diversity were in full display during the dazzling 68th <keyword id="6416557" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Republic-day">Republic Day</keyword> celebrations in the national capital which had Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan as the Chief Guest. 
 
Light rains and overcast skies failed to dampen the enthusiasm of thousands of spectators who witnessed the nearly one-and-half hour-long parade that marched down the majestic Rajpath, India's ceremonial boulevard, amid unprecedented security cover. 
 
 major highlight of the parade was 149-member marching contingent from UAE comprising personnel from Presidential Guards, the Air Force, the Navy and Army. They were led by a band comprising 35 musicians from that country. 
 Al Nahyan, also Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE armed forces, was seated next to Prime Minister <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword> who wore a pink color 'safa' (turban). The two leaders were seen sharing some light moments. 
 
 For the first time a contingent of the National Security Guard (NSG), popularly known as the Black Cat Commandos, was part of the march past. 
 
The parade also saw the fly-past of three LCA Tejas Aircraft flying at a height of 300 metres in 'Vic' formation and the Airborne Early Warning and Control System (AEW&amp;C) developed by DRDO. 
 
 The Indian Army's missile firing capability T-90 'Bhishma' tank, Infantry Combat Vehicle BMP-2K, Mobile Autonomous Launcher of the BrahMos Missile System, Weapon Locating Raddar 'Swathi' and Akash Weapons System and Dhanush Gun System were among the main draw in the mechanised columns. 
 Alongside the Crown Prince, the ceremonial parade was watched by Vice President <keyword id="6491214" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Hamid-Ansari">Hamid Ansari</keyword>, former Prime Minister <keyword id="6359397" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Manmohan-Singh">Manmohan Singh</keyword>, Congress chief <keyword id="689" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sonia-Gandhi">Sonia Gandhi</keyword> and the country's top political and military brass, besides the diplomatic community. 
 
Tableaux from 17 states and Union Territories and six central ministries and departments showcased the varied historical, art and cultural heritage of the country. Goods and Services Tax (GST) was the the theme of the tableau of Central Board of Excise and Customs. 
 
21 of the 25 children who won the National Bravery Award also participated in the parade. Four children have received the award posthumously. 
 
 The grand finale of the parade was a spectacular flypast by the Indian Air Force which displayed various formations like 'Chakra' and 'Vic' leaving the spectators spell-bound. The 'Hercules' formation comprising three C-130J Super Hercules aircraft also drew loud cheers. 
 The theme of IAF tableau was "Air Dominance Through Network Centric Operations" and it displayed the scaled down models of Su-30 MKI, Mirage-2000, AWACS, UAV, Apache and Communication <keyword id="6358065" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Satellite">Satellite</keyword>. 
 
 The Indian Navy's tableau showcased the lethal Marine Commandos proceeding for action, the indigenously built Kolkata Class Destroyer and the Kalvari Class next generation attack submarines. It also showcased a model of the P-8I Long Range Maritime Patrol Aircraft. 
 
As per tradition, after unfurling the National Flag, the National Anthem was played followed by a 21 gun salute.

Recently, the <keyword id="517746" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Indian-space-agency">Indian space agency</keyword> has bagged the <keyword id="1565295" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Indira-Gandhi-Prize">Indira Gandhi Prize</keyword> for Peace, Disarmament and Development for 2014. 

	The ISRO will be conferred the country’s most prestigious award for its contribution in strengthening international co-operation in peaceful use of outer space. The prize carries a cash reward of Rs 2.5 million.
 The announcement was made on Wednesday by the award jury, chaired by Vice President <keyword id="11698" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Mohammad-Hamid-Ansari">Mohammad Hamid Ansari</keyword>. "The <keyword id="6354478" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Indira-Gandhi">Indira Gandhi</keyword> Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development is awarded to the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in recognition of its path-breaking achievement, culminating in the Mars orbiter mission, its significant contribution in strengthening international cooperation in peaceful use of outer space," a statement said. 

	The statement also highlights the fact that with the sheer dedication, hard work and out-of-the-box thinking, Indian space scientists have been able to turn the impossible possible. The statement cites, “It has shown how true self-reliance is, often working in adverse circumstances when it was denied adequate access to the latest research and development elsewhere.”
 

	Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development is accorded annually by the country to individuals or organisations in recognition of creative efforts towards promoting international peace, development and a new international economic order. And ISRO, which was established on August 15, 1969, has delivered a miracle, in form of the awe-inspiring success of its mission to Mars, despite its weaknesses of bureaucratic decision-making, funds crunch among others.

After Mangalyaan, ISRO Adds Another Feather To Its Cap: Bags The 2014 Indira Gandhi Prize For Peace

The national capital was today brought under an unprecedented ground-to-air security cover with thousands of armed personnel keeping a tight vigil for the 67th <keyword id="6416557" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Republic-day">Republic Day</keyword> celebrations where French President Francois Hollande was the chief guest. 
 The area around Central <keyword id="66" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Delhi">Delhi</keyword> was turned into virtual fortress in view of intelligence inputs that terror groups may target some important installations in the city. 
 
Ahead of the Republic Day celebrations, central security agencies and NIA busted a module by arresting 14 militants linked to terror group ISIS. 
 
The group had planned to carry out sensational strikes at important installations and its members had also visited the national capital, official sources said. 
 
Commandos with light machine guns were deployed at 10 strategic locations and anti-aircraft guns remained positioned at two vantage points in the capital. 
 
The entire region of Central and New Delhi had nearly 50,000 security personnel drawn from Delhi Police and central security forces guarding every nook and corner. 
 Special arrangements were made at the historic Rajpath where <keyword id="3658" type="COUNTRY" weightage="80" keywordseo="India">India</keyword>'s military might was on display. 
 Hollande was seated along with Mukherjee and host of VVIPs including Vice President <keyword id="6491214" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Hamid-Ansari">Hamid Ansari</keyword> and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. 
 
The enclosure of the VVIPs was put under a multi-layer security ring with Presidential Guards and officials of SPG and NSG guarding the two inner-most orbits and Delhi Police entrusted with guarding the outermost circle, said a senior official. 
 
Special patrolling teams, comprising three officials including a commando, were deployed in New Delhi area within two-kilometer radius from India Gate. 
 
Senior officials said snipers have been put on 45 buildings overlooking Rajpath besides providing a similar cover along all the buildings along the parade route. 
 Gunners have been given clear instructions to bring down any aerial object flying without permission. A 'NOTAM' (Notice to Airmen) has been declared from 10.35 AM to 12.15 PM during which no flights will land or take off at the <keyword id="6354478" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indira-Gandhi">Indira Gandhi</keyword> International Airport. 
 
"Specially trained police personnel with light machine guns have been deployed at 10 strategic spots in New Delhi area," a senior police official said. 
 
Officials said anti-aircraft guns have been deployed at two vantage points to ward off any threat from the sky. 
 
A special control room has been monitoring as many as 15,000 CCTV cameras installed across Central and New Delhi, with 200 high-tech digital cameras installed in the parade route, an official said. 
 As many as 1,000 traffic officials have been issued revolvers so that they can deal with any untoward incident amid heavy <keyword id="84008" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Security-arrangements">security arrangements</keyword> across the city involving around 25,000 police officials. 
 
The airspace will remain out of bounds for commercial flights arriving and departing out of the IGI airport here between 10.35 AM and 12.15 PM tomorrow. "Around 60 arrivals and departures take place at the IGI airport during this period, for which the notice was issued by the Airports Authority of India," a senior official said. 
 
Meanwhile, Delhi Police has set up a wireless integrated public address (WIPA) system to enhance security at croswded places and popular markets in the city. WIPA is a centralised public address system now installed at 31 crowded places and markets in Delhi, and also in 13 major metro stations. 
 
The national capital is already on high alert after inputs were received about the presence of key members of several terror groups in Delhi. 
 
In an inter-state coordination meeting held earlier this month, Delhi Police Chief B S Bassi had asked his force and police departments of neighbouring states to keep a vigilant eye on drones, as they have been perceived as a major threat to security, said a senior police official.

According to a news report by the PTI, during the Question Hour, over 30 members of the Congress trooped in to the Well, raising slogans and holding placards demanding resignation of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and the Chief Ministers of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh over the Lalit Modi and Vyapam issues. 
 
Members from SP, RJD and JD(U) too were in the Well with placards demanding that caste census data be made public, while some TRS members, also holding placards in the aisles, sought a separate High Court for Telangana. 
 
Congress Vice President <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Twitterati-celebrates-VishwaPappuDiwas-as-Rahul-Gandhi-turns-45/articleshow/47732727.cms">Rahul Gandh</a>i was thumping the desk as his party members continued sloganeering in the Well. 
 
As repeated pleas from the Speaker to the agitating members to put down their placards went unheeded, she named several of them, including Gaurav Gogoi, Sushmita Dev, Deepender Hooda, K C Venugopal and Rajiv Satav, and later warned them of action. 
 
Opposition members, especially from the Congress, have been protesting against the government over Lalit Modi controversy and Vyapam scam since the Monsoon Session began last month, says the PTI report. 
 
When the House met for the Question Hour at noon, Congress members were up on their feet raising demand for the resignation of Swaraj and two other chief ministers. 
 
Some of them also demanded the resignation of HRD Minister Smriti Irani on the row over her educational qualifications. Irani was present in the House at that time. 
 
Soon after Chairman Hamid Ansari announced that he was taking up the Question Hour, Madhusudan Mistry (Cong) got up to raise a point of order questioning how Swaraj could make a statement without giving any notice, and sought its expunction from the records. However, he was not allowed to speak any further. 
 
Jharna Das Baidya (CPI-M) got up to ask a question to the HRD Minister and she got up to table the answer. However, Baidya could not ask a supplementary question in the din.

Mortal remains of late former Indian President <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=APJ+Abdul+Kalam">APJ Abdul Kalam</a> arrived at Palam Airport in New Delhi from Guwahati on Tuesday. 
 Indian President Pranab Mukherjee, Vice-President Hamid Ansari, <keyword id="6354814" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="prime-minister-Narendra-Modi">Prime Minister Narendra Modi</keyword>, along with Three Service Chiefs paid homage to Kalam. 
 
Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, Delhi Police Commissioner B.S. Bassi and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal were also present. 
 
 
 
Public can pay homage to the late President from 3pm onwards at 10 Rajaji Marg in New Delhi. 
 
 
 
The last rites will take place at Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu. 
 
People from all walks of life took to social media and paid homage to the apolitical President. Kalam led the scientific team that developed missiles able to carry India's nuclear warheads. 
 
He became a national hero after helping oversee nuclear tests in 1998 that solidified India's status as a nuclear weapons state. India's first atomic test was in 1974. 
 
Meanwhile, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=smriti+irani">Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani</a> announced Rashtriya Avishkar Abhiyan to be renamed as APJ Abdul Kalam Rashtriya Avishkar Abhiyan. 
 
Telangana Government has announced holiday, whereas the Andhra Pradesh Government has decided to work one hour extra to pay tribute to the late President. 
 
Kalam died on Monday (July 27) from a cardiac arrest at the age of 83. 
 
Kalam, popularly known as 'Missile Man', was delivering a lecture in Shillong when he collapsed and was rushed to Bethany Hospital.

President Pranab Mukherjee, PM Modi pay homage to Dr Kalam at Delhi airport

Today, <keyword id="6358064" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="ISRO">ISRO</keyword> scientists have created history by successfully inserting the <keyword id="6625456" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Mars-Orbiter-Mission">Mars Orbiter Mission</keyword> (MOM) into the Martian Orbit. This makes India the first country in the world to accomplish the feat in its maiden attempt—an achievement that every Indian is proud of. 
 The historic moment was witnessed by <keyword id="71" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Prime-Minister">Prime Minister</keyword> <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword>, who was present at the ISRO centre in Bangalore when space scientists successfully completed the much-anticipated rendezvous of <keyword id="1506013" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="mangalyaan">Mangalyaan</keyword> with the Red Planet. 
 
PM has congratulated the space scientists after the feat was achieved and said, “…history has been created by the Indian scientists reaching Mars in the first attempt.” He exhorted scientists to set even more challenging targets for themselves, and said he had confidence that they would be able to achieve even those targets. 
 
Modi wants the entire nation to celebrate the MOM success. He has said, “All Indians must celebrate the success of our space scientists today. Let India celebrate the achievements of its scientists. Let students in every school and college applaud their efforts.” 
 The President and Vice President of India have also extended their congratulations to the ISRO scientists. In a message to Dr. K. Radhakrishnan, Chairman of ISRO, the President, <keyword id="6359124" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Pranab-Mukherjee">Pranab Mukherjee</keyword> has said, “The nation is proud of this historic achievement which has demonstrated, yet again, India’s space capabilities. I am sure that this breakthrough, which marks a significant landmark in our space programme, will inspire our scientists to make even greater strides.” 
 
While congratulating the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) scientists and all others concerned with the Mangalyaan mission, The Vice President of India, M. Hamid Ansari said, “The nation is proud of their achievement. I am confident that our scientists will continue to scale greater heights and win more laurels for the country in the field of space exploration in the future.
