New Delhi, Jan 31 () FMCG major HUL on Friday said that it would increase soaps prices by up to 6 per cent in a phased manner to offset the rising cost of palm oil.
 According to HUL Chief Financial Officer Srinivas Phatak, prices of palm oil in the last six months have gone up by 25 to 30 per cent.
 "We would take the prices up in the soap part of our portfolio. We would be looking to price up between 5 to 6 per cent and they would come in a phased manner," Phatak said in a post-earnings conference call.
 "We are being judicious and being calibrated," he said, adding "for skin cleansing, we are taking up prices."
 Hindustan Unilever Ltd (HUL) is the leader in the soap category and owns popular brands like Dove, Lux, Lifebuoy, Pears, Hamam, Lyril and Rexona.
 However, he added that HUL is watching prices of other commodities and food prices continue to be "volatile", while there has been a clear uptick in palm oil prices.
 "We have also seen uptick (in) prices in dairy and we are examining all these," he said, adding that HUL would look at pricing appropriately while maintaining its "competitiveness".
 HUL on Friday reported an increase of 12.95 per cent in net profit to Rs 1,631 crore for the December quarter, while net sales rose 3.87 per cent to Rs 9,953 crore.
 HUL CMD Sanjiv Mehta said:"This quarter witnessed an overall challenging market environment, mainly reflecting a sharp slowdown in rural and discretionary spends."
 Phatak added that growth was moderate over many quarters.
 However, he added that due to several measures taken, there would be "uptick in due course" but the current outlook stands "sluggish". KRH ABM

When Coca Cola wanted to re-enter India with its own set of brands that competed head-on with these three, it simply bought the out and quietly killed them. While some old-timers still remember these brands, the feeling is only nostalgic. To kill them was a deliberate decision of the brand owner. The same happened with Uncle Chips, once a leader in the potato chips market. Lays took over the brand and quietly killed it replacing it with its flagship. Today, Uncle Chips is half-dead. Half dead because, Lays uses Uncle Chips to kill competition in areas where Lays is weaker or absent. Once the field is clear, Lays takes over the market. Uncle Chips is now a mercenary! <ul><li>Failed resurrection</li></ul>There have been instances in the past when a brand was taken over with an intention to make it even bigger instead of killing it. Binaca and Hamam were once popular brands in the toothpaste and bathing soap category before they were sold. The intention of the new owner was to make them even bigger. But for reasons unknown, these brands collapsed even after multiple attempts to revive &amp; resuscitate them. <ul><li>Premature Death</li></ul>Death does not differentiate between infants, young adults or adults. It just happens! Remember Tata Nano, the great Indian car? The Nano is a classic example of a great brand died which died as an infant. While the product was flawless and perfectly placed on the value equation, its positioning proved to be its undoing! Nobody wanted to buy a car that shouted out loud “you couldn’t afford to buy a bigger car” every time one used it! Here was a car which had everything going right for it, but just failed in managing the perceptions right. Another example is of the soap brand LeSancy. It probably had the best value equation – the longest lasting soap! But then this strongest point proved to be its nemesis. Beyond a point, its long-lasting nature proved too much for the customers who were habituated to change/replace their soaps much frequently. Just like in life, there are exceptions to each of the situations mentioned, but this is by and large the case. The reasons can be many, but the fact remains that brand health is very fragile. Even minor accident may lead to their untimely death. Hence it is important to conduct regular health-checks, get vaccinated and keep the brand’s immunity at high to avoid any sudden surprises. But just like death is certain in our world, resurrection/revival is just round the corner for every brand, provided they make it to that corner! For every dying brand there are 100’s other who undergo a transformation and make a comeback with a bang. While some brands like Coca-Cola don’t disturb their visual identity but keep doing contemporary things, there are brands like Pepsi which revamp almost everything. We will see about such forever young brands in the next article. Hence, the route to achieving brand moksha is to avoid getting trapped in any of the above mentioned situations. And more importantly, if unfortunately your brand is caught in one, then the faster it gets out of it the better. Or else death is certain!

"My favorite moments were driving around the city, feeling its heartbeat," she tells Business Insider. "Traffic jams allowed me to people-watch and observe the street life of the city. Baghdad was crumbling everywhere but still had a charm and sometimes a cosmopolitan air." Yet working as country director for the local Iraqi organization Mercy Hands for Humanitarian Aid (HM) in 2016, Waegemann spent most time confined to her office/home for security reasons. Then at 29, and the first expat at HM, she lived outside the Green Zone, in the upper middle-class district Karrada. "All you need is one person who gets it in their head to kidnap you," Waegemann says, "or one person to pass information onto ISIS." The terror group never conquered the capital, but it had a grip on the city nonetheless. On July 3, five months after Waegemann's arrival in Iraq, an ISIS suicide truck slammed into the popular Hadi Center in Karrada. The blast killed 324 people. Waegemann lived just a few streets away. "Hearing the explosion, I sat up in bed thinking 'that was a bomb,'" she remembers, "and then I promptly went back to sleep. I had gotten too accustomed to Baghdad's regular bomb and mortar noises." Once a Christian neighborhood, Karrada had become more and more Shia over time. ISIS, claiming to be Sunni, defined Shia members, the smaller of the two main confessions in the Muslim world, as heretics and targeted them viciously. But in Karrada, the Shia organized its counterstrike - with the help of Qassem Soleimani, the commander of the Iranian Quds force who was killed by an US airstrike in Baghdad on January 3. <h2>How Soleimani orchestrated the Shia fight against ISIS in Iraq</h2>In 2016, Karrada became a recruiting ground for the Shia militia Hasd al-Shaabi, the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF). The PMF originally was founded by Iraq's then-Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki in 2014, <a href="https://carnegie-mec.org/2017/04/28/popular-mobilization-forces-and-iraq-s-future-pub-68810" target="_blank">both to fight ISIS and to maintain his influence in the country</a>. In 2016, the Iraqi parliament passed a law institutionalizing the PMF as a state military force reporting directly to the prime minister. The PMF's main supporter, though, was Soleimani: From an early stage his Quds forces trained and coordinated the Shia militia's fighters and delivered weapons and equipment to Iraq. In July 2016, the Al-Jadriya area, a slightly more posh district within Karrada, was crawling with PMF recruiters, remembers Waegemann: "Driving down Jamia Street, one would pass poster after poster with pictures of men dressed in military uniforms, with guns and slogans about Hussein - recruitment advertisements for the Shi'a militias that even included their Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook pages to follow." Indeed, by August 2016, just a short time before the start of the battle to liberate Mosul from ISIS, Pentagon officials <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/us-officials-up-to-100000-iran-backed-fighters-now-in-iraq" target="_blank">estimated there were between 80,000 and 100,000 Iranian-backed Shia fighters</a> on the ground in Iraq. And on August 6 that year, a spokesman for the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Front <a href="https://en.farsnews.com/newstext.aspx?nn=13950516001188" target="_blank">announced</a> that Soleimani is in Iraq to oversee the retaking of Mosul: "General Soleimani is in Iraq at the invitation of the Iraqi government to provide military counseling to the Iraqi forces." Soleimani's presence in Iraq during the battle of Mosul was never verified. But even before then, the Iranian general became known under a now infamous term: "The Shadow Commander." <h2>At UN meetings in Iraq, the PMF was a solemn topic</h2>Reuters Shi'ite Popular Mobilization Forces members with an ISIS flag they pulled down in Tal Afar, Iraq, August 27, 2017. In December 2016, the war against ISIS has surrounded, yet not quite reached, Mosul. Worn down by the constant fear for her life and safety in Baghdad, Waegemann has resettled to Kurdistan, working as country director for the French NGO La Chaine de L'espoir (CDE) in the cities of Dohuk and Erbil. The fighting is just 60 minutes away, but most roads to Mosul are closed. Safe routes for humanitarian aid workers through the war zone change on a daily basis. An assignment in late December took Waegemann to a field hospital in the town of Hamam al-Alil, which had just been retaken from ISIS. Waegemann, her Kurdish colleague, and an Iraqi-French surgeon approached the town in a dust storm. "The road was destroyed. A large long ditch ran parallel to it, where ISIS had been fighting. Along the way were shells of remaining suicide bombers' cars, all twisted and rusted," she remembers. "Most houses along the road were in heaps of rubble. A couple shepherds tended their herds in the thick dust, letting the sheep wander. Almost no one was on the road except a few military vehicles, blaring their lights in the storm." Hamam al-Alil had been liberated by a combination of elite Iraqi forces and the Iraqi police. Yet when Waegemann left the town, rumors spread that ISIS would return in the night to retake it. Protracted fighting like this dominated the battle for Mosul for months on end. Iraqi forces fought alongside troops from the international coalition - with the Iranian-backed Popular Mobilization Forces always part of the equation. Waegemann remembers meetings of the UN health cluster group in Kurdistan in which the fighting of the PMF was discussed. While the coalition forces held back on the battlefield to evacuate civilians, the Shia militias would not. Being of American-German citizenship, she now lives in Berlin, working for an organization that supports humanitarian work in Syria On January 3, the day a MQ-9-Reaper drone struck Soleimani's convey outside the Baghdad airport, Waegemann didn't check the <keyword id="6355005" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="news">news</keyword> before she arrives at work at about 8:45 a.m. When she heard of Soleimani's death, when the messages from former coworkers and friends in Iraq started coming in, some optimistic, some fearful, she was shocked. "We all know Soleimani was responsible not only for the deaths of many Americans but also the deaths of many Iraqis and Syrians. But, ultimately, I was wondering what this will bring - en escalation of anti-Americanism, danger for Americans working in the Middle East, war?" she says. Waegemann isn't convinced that Soleimani's killing was well thought out. "Soleimani was instrumental in the design of the Hasd al-Shaabi but also in proxy militias from Lebanon to Yemen. And though he is now gone, it doesn't mean Iran's agenda or strategy in the region has changed," she says. Then, he uses a fog machine to create a cloud suspended in the room. 
The cloud only lasts for a few moments, but it's still a beautiful and intriguing sight to see.
"I'm interested in the ephemeral aspect of the work," Smilde said in an <a href="http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/arts-post/post/artist-berndnaut-smilde-creates-indoor-clouds/2012/03/13/gIQA7yAT9R_blog.html">interview with Maura Judkis of The Washington Post</a>. Big, Puffy White Clouds May Soon Be Floating By Your Head Indoors

As Dr. Engelman stated, both products can work, it really just depends what you are looking for in the product. Neither of these products are quick fixes, and while a one ounce bottle will last you a long time (you only use a few drops each day), keeping up with a $166 skincare habit is not necessarily sustainable. Luckily, there are plenty more topical Vitamin C products to choose from, that may <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/what-does-vitamin-c-serum-do-for-skin-2018-8" target="_blank" rel="noopener">work better for your skin type and budget</a>.For now, I am going to transition to SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic full time with the hopes that it will help lessen the discoloration and veins on the other side of my face, too. I compared vitamin C serums that cost $20 and $165 - and it turns out the expensive one is worth the cost

This has made even slackers wash their hands at least four times a day. As a result, FMCG brands that manufacture hand sanitizers and liquid soaps have seen their sales swelling up. Furthermore, the increase in awareness about personal hygiene and care is also driving the market’s growth. According to Technavio, Market Intelligence Agency, the <keyword id="9361507" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="hand-sanitizer-market">hand sanitizer market</keyword> in India is poised to grow by USD 405.31 million during 2020-2024 due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Its analysts estimate the market to grow at a CAGR of 61.02% till 2024. To meet this increasing demand, the global monthly production of Lifebuoy hand sanitizer increased by 56 times and liquid hand wash by three times compared to a typical month in 2019. We have achieved this by prioritising production of hand wash, soap and hand sanitizer on lines across Unilever’s factories; setting-up new factories; and working with manufacturing partners.” A lot of companies like RSH Global, Nivea, Emami, Cipla Health, Dabur have made their maiden entries into the hand sanitiser market to ride the demand and to help people stay safe. Lifebuoy will also continue to look for newer opportunities and innovate to help its consumers. “At Lifebuoy, we continue to explore opportunities to help our consumers feel protected and safe. For example, we anticipate that as countries ease out of lockdown, many people will be looking for more portable, ‘on-the-go’ formats such as hand sanitizers and wipes to help maintain good hand hygiene,” said Singh. Moving beyond competition The pandemic has also made brands to keep competition aside and remind its consumers that everybody is in this together. People see through that kind of purpose washing. Responsibility because people expect especially at these times for brands and institutions to do the right thing, even if it is not immediately business apparent. That’s why we have advocated the use of even our competitors' soap brands since January, and that’s why we continue to direct people to official sources of information from reputed government health bodies.
