The churn of employees at Indian IT companies is settling down as the likes of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), <keyword id="6354512" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Infosys">Infosys</keyword>, HCL Technologies, <keyword id="10862" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Wipro">Wipro</keyword>, and Tech Mahindra are witnessing some of the lowest attrition rates that they’ve seen in a while. “A large amount of lateral hiring happens because of attrition replacement. If I’m losing 20 people, I have to hire 20 people. To that extent, lateral hiring will come down,” HCL Tech CHRO Apparao VV told Business Insider. But, it is yet to make up its mind about the coming year. “We have not yet finalised. We’re doing a bottom-up exercise where we ask each of the businesses, what is the growth they see. Part of it will be based on form booking and a part of it will be based on anticipation — past number. With attrition at an all-time low of 8.9%, India’s biggest IT firm TCS too has been focused on onboarding freshers since July. “We started onboarding freshers and increased our recruitment globally in Q2 in anticipation of the growth trajectory,” said TCS CHRO, Milind Lakkad, during the second-quarter earnings call. The company is looking to onboard 10,000 employees over the next year in the US amid the uncertainty around H-1B visa regulations. Over the last five years, TCS has hired around 21,500 employees in the country in its efforts to localise. Wipro, which recently saw a change in leadership with Thierry Delaporte at the helm, did not disclose any exact numbers but does have ‘robust’ hiring plans for the second half of the current fiscal. “Very robust hiring this quarter, both laterally and campuses. We continue to see the same momentum going forward,” said the company’s CHRO Saurabh Govil during the second-quarter earnings call. He added that given the company’s current growth momentum, hiring — laterally and via campuses — is an important part of managing that growth. This includes hiring across geographies, including India and in the new business areas, especially cloud and cybersecurity, where the demand lies. India’s IT sector is among the first to recover from the economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic. Hiring freshers, rather than laterally, allows companies to pick up talent that’s relatively cheaper. It’s also easier to train fresh minds in-house for specific skills, especially because they are in short supply in the market. TCS, Infosys, HCL Tech, and others to see more freshers than lateral hires in the next six months

New Delhi, Jan 19 () IT services firm HCL Technologies is betting on strong demand across sectors, including manufacturing and retail, to continue its growth momentum in the coming quarters.
 The company, which posted 15.5 per cent rise in revenue in the December quarter, is also seeing strong growth in the European and US markets.
 "Our pipeline is very strong. And we're also pretty confident of the conversion rates. As we speak, we're looking large deals. So overall, I'm positive," HCL Technologies President and CEO C Vijayakumar told .
 He added that sectors like manufacturing, retail and CPG (consumer packaged goods) look quite strong.
 "On financial services, we are a little bit cautious because European banks...there is still some decline in spends in some of our customers," he said, adding that Europe overall is performing well for the company.
 On the back of the strong growth, the company has narrowed its revenue growth outlook to 16.5-17 per cent for 2019-20 in constant currency terms from its previous forecast of 15-17 per cent top line growth.
 In the December quarter, growth was led by manufacturing at 38.1 per cent year-on-year, energy, utility and public services at 31.3 per cent, retail CPG at 16.9 per cent, financial services at 16.8 per cent, and telecom and media at 13.6 per cent.
 In terms of geographies, the US, Europe and Rest of World (RoW) experienced double digit growth on a year-on-year basis in constant currency.
 RoW lead the growth with 27.3 per cent year-on-year growth in constant currency.
 Vijayakumar pointed out that the company is also expanding its presence in geographies like Canada, South Africa and Middle East.
 Talking about deal sizes, he said, "I think, in 2019, we had a lot of large deals where billion dollar deals were coming".

HCL Tech expects strong demand across sectors in coming quarters

<ul><li><keyword id="10863" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="CapGemini">Capgemini</keyword> does not see lateral hiring slowing down even with its recent dip in attrition, according to the company’s India Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) Pallavi Tyagi.</li><li>In an exclusive interview with Business Insider, she explains that while attrition is low, the company has aggressive plans to expand in the coming months.</li><li>At the end of September, Capgemini’s bookings were 17.4% higher than last year at around $4.6 billion.</li></ul> Capgemini may be a French company but more than half of their workforce is located in India — and the Paris-based company has no plans of slowing down. Even as attrition levels drop, Capgemini India Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) Pallavi Tyagi believes that lateral hiring will continue to increase. “If the business plans and expansion happen as we’re expecting then to happen, then hiring is not going to slow down,” she told Business Insider in an exclusive interview. In the third quarter, ending September 30, Capgemini saw a 17.4% yearly increase in bookings amounting to €3.9 billion (approximately $4.6 billion). While they had pressed pause on lateral hiring during the first six months of the pandemic, the coffers have opened up again. The company pegs the digital learning platform as a one-stop shop for employees to keep up with whatever they may need . “The uptake in terms of learning output has increased,” said Tyagi. EXCLUSIVE: Capgemini India HR head explains why the French IT major is on a hiring spree in India and around the world

President-elect <keyword id="6354484" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Donald-Trump">Donald Trump</keyword> has said he would not allow Americans to be replaced by foreign workers, in an apparent reference to cases like that of <keyword id="71278" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Disney-World">Disney World</keyword> and other American companies wherein people hired on H-1B visas, including Indians, displaced US workers, according to an agency report. 
 "We will fight to protect every last American life," <keyword id="6354862" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Trump">Trump</keyword> told thousands of his supporters in Iowa on Thursday as he referred to the cases of <keyword id="46161" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Disney">Disney</keyword> world and other US companies. 
 
"During the campaign I also spent time with American workers who were laid off and forced to train. The foreign workers brought in to replace them. We won't lthis happen anymore," Trump vowed amidst cheers and applause from the audience. 
 
"Can you believe that? You get laid off and then they won't give you your severance pay unless you train the people that are replacing you. I mean, that's actually demeaning maybe more than anything else," he said. 
 
Disney World and two outsourcing companies have been slapped with a federal lawsuit by two of its former technology staff, alleging that they conspired to displace American workers with cheaper foreign labour brought to the US on H-1B visas, mostly from India. 
 The two employees - <keyword id="3344371" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Leo-Perrero">Leo Perrero</keyword> and <keyword id="3940932" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="dena-moore">Dena Moore</keyword> - were among 250 Disney tech workers laid off from their jobs at <keyword id="235630" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Walt-Disney-World">Walt Disney World</keyword> in <keyword id="67774" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Orlando">Orlando</keyword> in January 2015. They have also dragged two IT companies <keyword id="3940931" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="hcl-inc">HCL Inc</keyword> and <keyword id="3940446" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="cognizent-technologies">Cognizent Technologies</keyword> into this class action lawsuit. 
 
"You know the name of one of the companies that's doing it. I'm going to be nice because we're trying to get that company back. Don't forget much harder when a company announced a year and a half ago - some of these companies, like Carrier, they announced long before I even knew I was going to be running for president," Trump said. 
 On immigration, Trump reiterated that he will build the wall along the <keyword id="3746" type="COUNTRY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Mexico">Mexico</keyword> border. 
 
"We will put an end to illegal immigration and stop the drugs from pouring into our country, the drugs are pouring into our country, poisoning our youth and plenty of other people," he said.

Senator <keyword id="180909" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kamala-Harris">Kamala Harris</keyword> has roped in Indian-American <keyword id="6717813" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sabrina-Singh">Sabrina Singh</keyword>, who previously was the spokeswoman of two Democratic presidential candidates, as press secretary for her Democratic vice presidential campaign. Singh, 32, previously headed the press shop of two Democratic presidential candidates -- New Jersey Senator Cory Booker and former New York mayor Mike Bloomberg. Last week, Democratic presumptive vice presidential nominee <keyword id="99719" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Joe-Biden">Joe Biden</keyword>, 77, picked 55-year-old Indian-origin Harris as his running mate. "I'm so excited to join the #BidenHarris ticket as Press Secretary for @KamalaHarris! Can't wait to get to work and win in November!," said Singh, the first-ever Indian-American press secretary to a vice presidential nominee of a major political party. A resident of Los Angeles, Singh was earlier spokesperson of the Democratic National Committee. She is the granddaughter of Sardar J J Singh of the India League of America, a non-profit organisation which champions the interests of Indian-American community in the US. In the 1940s, J J Singh along with a small group of fellow Indians mounted a nationwide campaign against racial discriminatory policies of the US. This culminated in the then president Harry Truman signing the Luce-Celler Act on July 2, 1946. The signing of the Act allowed a quota of 100 Indians to immigrate to the United States per annum. Meanwhile, Sri Lankan-American Rohini Kosoglu has been appointed in a senior role to advise Harris. She has earlier served as a senior advisor to Harris in her Senate office and presidential campaign. Harris was a presidential aspirant until last year before she dropped out of the race because of lack of popular support. Kamala Harris appoints Indian-American Sabrina Singh as her press secretary

Stressing that big companies deserve scrutiny, <keyword id="1377264" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Apple-CEO-Tim-Cook">Apple CEO Tim Cook</keyword> has said that his company conducts itself with utmost integrity and professionalism. Speaking at The Atlantic Festival on Monday where he discussed privacy, antitrust issues and his relationship with US President Donald Trump, Cook said Apple has no monopoly over the global markets, reports MacRumors. "I have no issue at all in Apple being put underneath the microscope and people looking and probing. My hope is that as people heard our story and as they continue to hear our story that it will become as apparent to them as it is to us that we have no monopoly. There is no monopoly here," Cook was quoted as saying On the ongoing <keyword id="9978326" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="us-antitrust-investigation">US antitrust investigation</keyword> into big tech firms, Cook said that "big companies deserve scrutiny," something that's "fair but important" for the American government. "We're in very, very competitive markets like smartphones, smartwatches, and tablets and personal computers. These things are fiercely competitive. They're basically street fights for market share," Cook stressed. Apple has faced criticism in several markets including in the US and Europe for the App Store fees, with the European Commission opening formal antitrust investigations to assess whether Apple's rules for app developers on the distribution of apps via the App Store violate EU competition rules. Cook said that their core strategy will never produce a monopoly. "It's very rare, almost impossible for the best to become the most as well. Somebody will choose a commodity product and there's enough people that will buy the commodity product that it will have more share. And that's true in all of the different fields we're in". On his relationship with Trump, Cook said that he views the specific conversations he's had with Trump as "private conversations". "We don't focus on politics. And so it keeps us out of the sort of the daily scrum of politics and keeps us very focused on the things that are very important to us," he added. On remote work, Cook said he can't wait for "everybody to be able to come back". "For things like creativity, you depend on people kind of running into each other over the course of a day. We have designed our entire office such that there are common areas where people congregate and talk about different things. And you can't schedule those times". "We've got about 10-15 per cent working today in the office. I'm in the office at different points during the week as well, but the vast majority, 85 to 90 per cent of the company is still working remotely".
