A two-day workshop organised by the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/RSS-supports-gay-sex-homosexuality/articleshow/51453021.cms">RSS</a> in Delhi saw participation from over 721 academicians and experts, including 51 Vice Chancellors of various central and state universities. 
 
The theme of the workshop was to brainstorm over how to make Indian education more oriented towards ‘Bharatiya perspectives’.

 The workshop, titled <keyword id="2662128" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Gyan-Sangam">Gyan Sangam</keyword>, was organised over the 25th-26th March weekend, and was held by the RSS-backed initiative called <keyword id="4343866" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Prajna-Pravah">Prajna Pravah</keyword>. 
 On Sunday, the main speaker of the workshop was <keyword id="42702" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mohan-Bhagwat">Mohan Bhagwat</keyword>, the chief of <keyword id="42498" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="RSS">RSS</keyword>, and senior RSS functionaries Sahkarvayah Krishna Gopal and Suresh Soni were also present at the workshop venue in the national capital.

Bhagwat spoke about “non-governmental and autonomous Indic thinking," and said, "This is not the alternative but the real attempt to develop a Bharatiya perspective.”

"Our education was marked with the absence of Indian-ness. The centre of gravity of our education system shifted towards the west,” said J Nandakumar, the head of Pranja Pravah. He added that the event was held so that ways to bring the centre of gravity back to Indic thinking could be brainstormed.

Over 700 academicians were a part of RSS workshop on making education more ‘Indian’

PM Modi has assigned a new task for country’s taxmen, that of doubling the taxpayer base to 10 crore from the present 5.43 crore now; however, he has also said that tax department should warn people that "the long arm of the law" will not leave tax defaulters. 
 
However, he made sure that the tax officers be "soft and sober" while approaching taxpayers, keeping in mind that not everyone is a tax evader. 
 
Modi was addressing the inaugural session of the two-day annual conference of tax administrators, when he said that administration should be founded on five pillars, viz. Revenue, Accountability, Probity, Information and Digitisation (RAPID). 
 
He added that Indians inherently are honest, because of which there should be a "bridge of trust" from the taxmen’s end, to achieve tax collection targets without using force. 
 The conference, titled '<keyword id="3392945" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Rajasva-Gyan-Sangam">Rajasva Gyan Sangam</keyword>' (Knowledge Conference on Revenue), saw Modi asking taxmen to "move towards digitisation" so that tax administration can be made efficient and there should be no trust deficit in the process. 
 
Mentioning the name of the conference, he said that people should make sure that the 'Gyan Sangam' can be turned into "Karma Sangam," making people think about converting ideas into action. 
 
He also began to list the shortcomings in the system, saying that a Google search on 'How to pay taxes in India' comes up with 7 crore answers, while on 'How not to pay taxes in India', it gives out 12 crore results. 
 
"People within the country are not dishonest. People have no problem in paying taxes, but somewhere they have some problem. Understand that problem and try to remove it," Modi told the taxmen present at the conference. 
 
He also went on to stress on the need to remove the fear of harassment from the people’s minds, a common scenario in India which is a major reason behind the trust deficit in the country.

Taxpayers should not fear harassment, Modi asks officials

<keyword id="71" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Prime-Minister">Prime Minister</keyword> <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword> has asked to the chiefs of state-run banks to carry out a single project under the corporate social responsibility (CSR) scheme. At present, every bank supports different CSR projects. Modi said this while speaking to the bankers at Gyan Sangam – a two-day workshop held in Pune recently. 
 As per the revised Companies Act, corporate houses have to spend at least 2% of their net profit for social welfare schemes under CSR. Banks, which come under the Banking Regulations Act, are exempted from the Companies Act. However, as per a directive by the Reserve <keyword id="6355303" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bank-of-India">Bank of India</keyword> (RBI), “they can spend up to 1% of their previous year's net profit to support social causes.” 
 "During the gathering, the PM pointed out that pooling of resources of all <keyword id="6369970" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="PSU-Banks">PSU banks</keyword> for a single project would result in a more meaningful deployment of funds as it would result in economies of scale. He suggested that each year, banks can take up different projects," The Economic Times quoted a banker, who was present during the meeting. 
 State Bank of India (SBI) had already written to RBI, asking for its approval to establish <keyword id="2690487" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="SBI-Foundation">SBI Foundation</keyword> – a non-profit making company, which will look after the CSR resources of all its associate banks and subsidiaries.

Modi Asks PSU Banks To Work On A Single CSR Project

Prime Minister <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword>’s love for mythology is well-known. He often quotes mythological characters in his speeches, and he has once again used mythology in his speech to underscore a point. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday took to mythology to underscore a need for building adequate knowledge capacities in the banking space, saying that <keyword id="6526" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Lakshmi">Lakshmi</keyword> – Goddess of wealth – would stay longer when combined with <keyword id="48770" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="saraswati">Saraswati</keyword>, who is worshipped for knowledge,” revealed a PTI report. He had made this comment while talking at the two-day event Gyan Sangam, in Pune. 
 
This is one of the cleverest statements by Modi, where he has appropriately used mythological characters to send across a clear message to the audiences that wealth and knowledge go hand in hand. And he is right in saying so, but why does he pick up only mythological characters to make a point? Does this show he is biased to Hinduism? 
 
But why question the rationale behind conversations wherein he is citing examples just to put across his point and inspire people explore more ideas? 
 
We like the way Modi builds a conversation by picking up glorious examples from the past, but we would have really loved if all of his claims have had a scientific logic behind them. Modi created quite a furore when at the inauguration of the Nita Ambani-run Sir H.N. Reliance Foundation Hospital and Research Centre in Mumbai, he had said, “There must have been some plastic surgeon at that time who got an elephant’s head on the body of a human being and began the practice of plastic surgery).” 
 His claims that plastic surgery and genetic science used to exist in ancient India didn’t go down well with many. Modi had to face severe criticism for these remarks. Questions are bound to be raised if a Prime Minister says that Lord <keyword id="6356252" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Ganesh">Ganesh</keyword>’s elephant head was the result of plastic surgery solely on the basis of mythology without any scientific evidence. 
 
There have been many such controversies since Narendra Modi assumed office in May last year. However, the common man of India expects much more from the man than just words. People, who had so enthusiastically voted for Modi, look up to him as the leader who can fulfil their aspirations. The common man wants that their leader, Modi, and his government to focus more on development and job creation, and resolving other issues. Agreed, while doing all this, he would certainly need to use the power of words — just that he should evaluate the rationale while citing references from the past.
