The year 2021 recorded around 80 disaster events that displaced around 4.9 million people, as per a new report by Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre (IDMC) Floods and cyclones, which are influenced by the south-west and north-east monsoon seasons, were the main reasons for disaster displacement. The number of displacements that cyclones trigger has increased in recent years and particularly since 2016. In less than a week, Cyclone Yaas began to form in the Bay of Bengal and made another 2.2 million homeless, primarily in Odisha and West Bengal. Cyclone Yaas accounted for the highest number of displacements in India. Cyclone Gulab prompted another 50,000 evacuations in September in Andhra Pradesh and Odisha, as per the data revealed by the report. Homes, shops, and political offices were burnt and more than 11,000 displacements were recorded. 19 out of 36 states and union territories in the country have displaced populations, some of the largest being in Assam, Tripura and Mizoram in the northeast, and Jammu and Kashmir in the northwest, says the report. Authorities in north coastal Andhra districts were alerted to be prepared as the region is likely to experience heavy rains under the impact of the cyclone which is expected to make a landfall between Kalingapatnam and Gopalpur on Sunday evening. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued cyclone warning for north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coasts. According to the IMD, 'Gulab' lay centred over northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal about 270 km east-southeast of Gopalpur (Odisha) and 330 km east of Kalingapatnam (Andhra Pradesh). It is likely to move nearly westwards and cross north Andhra Pradesh - south Odisha coasts between Kalingapatnam and Gopalpur around evening of 26th September, the IMD said. Cyclone Warning Centre Visakhapatnam warned that tidal wave of about 0.5 m height above the astronomical tide likely to inundate low lying areas of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Ganjam districts during the time of landfall. The cyclonic storm is likely to trigger heavy rains at one or two places over Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam districts over the next 24 hours. The IMD has issued red warning for these districts. Heavy to very heavy fall at a few places very likely over East Godavari, West Godavari districts and <keyword id="919832" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="yanam" source="Orion">Yanam</keyword>. Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over south coastal Andhra Pradesh, the IMD bulletin said. Squally wind speed reaching 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph likely to prevail along and off north Andhra Pradesh coast. It will gradually increase becoming gale wind speed reaching 75-85 kmph gusting to 95 kmph from afternoon of September 26 till midnight along and off north Andhra Pradesh (Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam districts). Squally wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 65 kmph likely to prevail over remaining districts of coastal Andhra Pradesh. As sea condition will be rough to very rough, fishermen have been advised not to venture into the rough waters till Monday. Tidal wave of about 0.5 m height above the astronomical tide likely to inundate low lying areas of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Ganjam districts during the time of landfall. Local cautionary signal- III was hoisted at Visakhapatnam, Gangavaram and Kakinada ports. Distant Warning Signal - II was hoisted at Machilipatnam, Nizampatnam and Krishnapatnam ports. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister <keyword id="10212072" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="y-s-jagan" source="Orion">Y.S. Jagan</keyword> Mohan Reddy held a review meeting on the preparedness in wake of cyclone alert and directed the officials to take all necessary steps. The officials informed the Chief Minister that they have alerted district collectors and suggested to take all necessary steps. They said control rooms were setup village secretariat wise and added that they have readied disaster management staff in Srikakulam and Visakhapatnam districts. The district collectors are taking steps to setup relief camps at required locations, the officials said. The Chief Minister directed the officials to be alert and take necessary steps as there are chances of heavy rains after cyclonic storm crosses the coast. The three-day Initial Public Offering (IPO) will conclude on November 24 and the anchor book of the offer will open for a day on November 21, according to the Red Herring Prospectus (RHP). This will be the third maiden public issue opening next week, after Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency and Tata Technologies. The IPO comprises a fresh issue of equity shares worth Rs 302 crore and an Offer for Sale (OFS) of 1.17 crore by promoters and existing shareholders. Fundraising through the OFS component is expected to be Rs 500 crore, market sources said. Those offering shares in the OFS include promoters -- Ramesh Babulal Parekh, Kailash Parekh and Gulab Parekh -- and other shareholders -- Fleet Line Shipping Services LLC, Denver Bldg Mat &amp; Decor TR LLC and Green Desert Real Estate Brokers. Proceeds from the fresh issue component will be used for payment of debt and for the purchase of equipment and civil work required for expansion in the capacity of automotive oil at the Silvassa plant. In addition, funds will be utilised for expansion in capacity of petroleum jelly and accompanying cosmetic product division at the company's Taloja plant as well as expansion in capacity of white oils by installing blending tanks at the plant and funding working capital requirements. Gandhar Oil Refinery is a leading manufacturer of white oils with a growing focus on the consumer and healthcare end industries. As of June 30, 2022, the company's product suite comprised over 350 products primarily across the personal care, healthcare and performance oils, lubricants and process and insulating oils divisions under the Divyol brand. Gandhar Oil Refinery IPO subscribed 64x as QIBs rush in

New Delhi, Candidates in Punjab's Jalandhar can spend Rs 15 for a cup of tea and the same price for a samosa they offer to people during public meetings and campaign trails in the <keyword id="19895394" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="lok-sabha" source="keywords">Lok Sabha</keyword> elections. However, those in Madhya Pradesh's Mandla can spend Rs 7 for a cup of tea and another Rs 7.50 for a piece of samosa, considered a staple snack in many parts of the country. With polls to elect the 18th Lok Sabha approaching, district poll panels are fixing the rates for expenses as part of the election expenditure monitoring process. The candidates will have to manage their expenditure within the prescribed limit. These rate cards often become a subject of "meme-fest" on social media about the prices not being in sync with the current inflation level. In most states, including Andhra Pradesh, the expenditure ceiling for a Lok Sabha candidate is set at Rs 95 lakh. However, in Arunachal Pradesh, Goa and Sikkim, the limit is slightly lower at Rs 75 lakh per candidate. Similarly, for Union territories, the expenditure ceiling ranges from Rs 75 lakh to Rs 95 lakh per candidate, depending on the region. In Jalandhar, chole bhature has been capped at Rs 40 while mutton and chicken have been priced at Rs 250 and 500 per kg respectively. Desserts like dhodha (Rs 450 per kg) and ghee pinni (Rs 300 per kg) are also on the menu besides <keyword id="20350738" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="lassi" source="keywords">lassi</keyword> and nimbu pani priced at Rs 20 and 15 per glass respectively. The cost of tea is low at Rs 5 in the rate card of Balaghat in Madhya Pradesh but the samosa is priced higher at Rs 10. The Balaghat rate card also has idli, <keyword id="21122493" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sambhar-vada" source="keywords">sambhar vada</keyword> and poha-jalebi priced at Rs 20 while the cost for dosa and upma has been fixed at Rs 30. In Thoubal district of violence-hit Manipur, tea, samosa, kachori, khajur (dates) and gaja (dessert) have been priced at Rs 10 each. Candidates in the northeastern state's Tengnoupal district, will have to stick to Rs 5 for black tea and Rs 10 for milk tea. The list has a wider spread of non-vegetarian items with duck and pork priced at Rs 300 and Rs 400 per kg respectively. Chicken (broiler) and fish like rohu, mrigal and sareng, are also on the list. In Chennai, the price of tea has been raised from Rs 10 to Rs 15 and coffee from Rs 15 to Rs 20, while the rate of chicken biryani has been reduced from Rs 180 to Rs 150 per packet compared to 2019. In the expenditure card for <keyword id="20035063" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="gautam-buddha-nagar" source="keywords">Gautam Buddha Nagar</keyword> (Noida/Greater Noida), vegetarian thali comes for Rs 100, a samosa or a cup of tea for Rs 10, kachori for Rs 15, a sandwich for Rs 25, and a kilogram of jalebi for Rs 90 per kg. <keyword id="20009826" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="north-goa" source="keywords">North Goa</keyword> candidates can have batata vada on menu at a cost of Rs 15, same as that for a samosa. The tea has been capped at Rs 15 while coffee can cost Rs 20. The rate card for Haryana's Jind offers the candidates to hire a tandoor for Rs 300 and features delicacies like dal makhni and mix veg for Rs 130 while matar paneer has been priced at 160. While parties and candidates often offer workers and voters liquor, none of the rate cards mention alcohol. Other heads which find mention in the rate cards range from expensive infrastructure, such as helipads, luxury vehicles, and farmhouses, to miscellaneous items like flowers, cooler, tower ACs and sofa. The rate cards have also prescribed the ceiling on rates for hiring of different vehicles for campaigning right from a Tata Safari or Scorpio to a Honda City or Ciaz or a bus to ferry to public to rally grounds. Rates have also been set for rose garlands, marigold garlands and bouquet by some poll panels while some have included heads like party merchandise including caps and flags. The rate cards also have an list of permissible rates for hiring venues and accommodation. The expenditure includes the spend for public meetings, rallies, advertisements, hoardings, pamphlets, flexis, campaign material and all other election-related work. At present, there is a ceiling on campaigning funds for individual candidates in the electoral fray but no cap on the money political parties can spend for electioneering. According to the revised guidelines issued by the ECI, the maximum permissible expenditure for campaigning in a Lok Sabha constituency varies across different states and Union territories. Section 77 (1) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 says candidates are expected to keep an account of expenditure incurred on the elections from the "date on which he has been nominated" till the "date of declaration of the result". Polling for the 543 Lok Sabha seats will be held in seven phases, starting with 102 in the first phase on April 19. The votes will be counted on June 4.

Telecom regulator <keyword id="6356988" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="trai" source="Orion">Trai</keyword> has asked the Department of Telecom to consider its recommendations made last year on spectrum auctions to plan the sale of radiowaves, according to a senior government official. <keyword id="16054" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="dot" source="Orion">DoT</keyword> Joint Wireless Advisor Gulab Chand, during a panel discussion at the India Spectrum Management Conference, said the government is trying its best to hold spectrum auctions by the end of the current fiscal or early next fiscal. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) has asked the department to go ahead with recommendations for lower frequency bands last year for 5G <keyword id="6462365" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="spectrum-auction" source="Orion">spectrum auction</keyword>, and it will take time to come up with suggestions on pricing and other modalities for new frequency bands, he said on Wednesday. "They (Trai) said reserve price, eligibility criteria, everything is with you for legacy bands. Why don't you go ahead with all those conditions and immediately conduct the auctions. For the new bands - Q (33-50 Ghz) band and V (40-75 Ghz) band, they will need more time," Chand said. He said much of the spectrum allocated in the lower band earlier is due to expire this fiscal and telecom operators would like to acquire it again. "We are trying very hard to hold the auction, if not within this fiscal, then maybe just in the beginning of next fiscal," Chand said. The Union Cabinet in September 2021, decided that spectrum auctions should be normally held in the last quarter of every financial year. <keyword id="130091" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Trai-Secretary" source="Orion">Trai Secretary</keyword> V Raghunandan, who was present at the conference, said the regulator has told the DoT that if a spectrum auction has to be conducted this year or within the next three years, then they can refer to spectrum pricing and other conditions recommended by the regulator for the 5G spectrum auction. "We have also given a formula of indexing for determining base price," Raghunandan said. The government, in 2022, put a total of 72,097.85 MHz of spectrum for auction with a validity period of 20 years. Trai had recommended base price for spectrum in various low (600 MHz, 700 MHz, 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 2100 MHz, 2300 MHz), mid (3300 MHz) and high (26 GHz) frequency bands. A record bid of over Rs 1.5 lakh crore worth of 5G telecom spectrum was received in the auction held last year.

"It's a lie. (Chapters on) Mughals have not been dropped. There was a rationalisation process last year because due to Covid, there was pressure on students everywhere," the <keyword id="116349" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ncert-director" source="Orion">NCERT director</keyword> told ANI. The NCERT chief further said that expert committees examined the books from standards 6-12. "They recommended that if this chapter is dropped, it won't affect the knowledge of the children and an unnecessary burden can be removed...The debate is unnecessary. Those who don't know can check the textbooks...," Saklani said. He said that even today students are studying the history of the Mughals in NCERT's class 7th book. "Along with this, the history of Mughals is being taught in Empires in section-2 of the 11th class book. And in the class 12th book there were 2 chapters on the history of the Mughals, out of which theme nine was removed last year, while theme eight is still being taught to the students. This year no chapter has been removed from any book," Saklani further said. "We are working as per NEP (National Education Policy) 2020. This is a transition phase. NEP 2020 speaks of reducing the content load. We are implementing it. NCF (National Curriculum Framework) for school education is being formed, it will be finalised soon. Textbooks will be printed in 2024 as per NEP. We have not dropped anything right now," the NCERT chief said while stressing the National Education Policy. On Monday, Uttar Pradesh Secondary Education Minister Gulab Devi also denied the reports claiming of removing the chapter of the Mughal Sultanate from CBSE and UP Board. "There is no change of any kind in our syllabus. Those who are running this type of misleading news, I request them not to run such news," Gulab Devi said. If there will be any further changes under the new education policy, then it cannot be said. At present, there is no change. The curriculum which was in 2022 will remain the same this time in 2023-24, she said. Picture this: Your husband and kids are home, and your mother-in-law and extended family are visiting. You've forgotten to make cookies because your to-do list was already long.You quickly whip up a batch, only to realize once you taste them that you've forgotten sugar. When it dawns on you that you ruined the cookies, you may feel mortified and awkward. Not only do you not have cookies, but you now have to confess to your family that you messed up the recipe.As I brace myself for the holiday season, I regularly remind myself of my mom's approach to risk-taking and how she's always embraced these experiences as learning opportunities. Since she set a great example for me, I want my kids to take this approach, too.<h2>Technology and the pandemic's effect on kid's social skills</h2>Many children have experienced social atrophy as a result of <a target="_blank" href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9273128/">excessive technology use</a> and <a target="_blank" href="https://www.theguardian.com/world/2023/aug/01/pandemic-set-back-social-and-emotional-growth-of-children-in-england-study-finds">the extended lockdowns</a>. This could show up as them refusing to talk to a salesperson or fearing group situations.In other words, their social muscles are not being exercised. To counter this, the same way we'd exercise at the gym, we can proactively seek out ways to strengthen these skills for our children.<h2>Why we shouldn't avoid awkward situations</h2>Because the holidays offer our family more time with extended family, I'm taking this as an opportunity to encourage my kids to take uncomfortable social risks and lean into "good awkward."Good awkward means embracing uncomfortable situations. While eliminating awkward situations is impossible, "bad awkward" could be a situation like a kid refusing to go skiing because they're worried they'll look like a fool.<a target="_blank" href="https://www.insider.com/how-imposter-syndrome-can-build-confidence-is-healthy-2023-9">Feeling awkward</a> is not a deficiency that needs to be fixed. Leaning into it is actually our greatest asset for personal growth.To eliminate awkwardness implies we can eliminate uncertainty or predict how others will behave — but we can't. It's up to us to get better at handling those moments and even seek them out proactively so our social and mental muscles are strong enough to learn how to handle them, rather than avoid them.<h2>A beginner's mentality made me more resilient</h2>Growing up as a first-generation American, my South Asian parents encouraged me to play four sports, join the marching band, and try jazz dance. I wasn't stellar or even remotely good at them. But in these situations, which always involved other people watching me, I gained a <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/salesforce-ceo-marc-benioff-beginners-mind-2018-9">beginner's mentality</a>.Beginners are usually more willing to take risks and try things, especially when they're outside their comfort zone. They also often embrace the awkwardness of new situations. Having this mentality throughout my life has encouraged me to approach awkward moments with a more pronounced sense of curiosity, rather than fear.<h2>Encountering uncomfortable experiences helps kids grow</h2>I plan to create opportunities for my kids <a target="_blank" href="https://www.insider.com/high-school-teacher-shares-one-piece-of-advice-for-parents-2023-2">to take minor social risks</a> and push past worries of embarrassment, cringe, or awkwardness. While I may not send my children on unsupervised gift-shopping excursions, I will:<ul><li>Encourage them to order their own meal at a restaurant, even if it means gently correcting the server when they've repeated it back incorrectly.</li><li>Allow them to build gifts or bake treats to give to friends, even if the results are imperfect.</li><li>Introduce experiences like ice skating, where falling down in front of others is likely.</li></ul>I'll also continue this year-round and encourage my kids to do things outside their comfort zones.<h2>Processing and reframing emotions encourage confidence</h2>When my kid tells me that there's "no way" she can call the doctor herself because she "is way too awkward," I will encourage her to reflect on this thought. Instead of viewing awkwardness as a state, "I feel awkward right now," she is framing it as a trait, "I am too awkward," which feels harder to work with. I will encourage her to name the emotion, classify it as a temporary state, and acknowledge the universality of this feeling.Finally, I will encourage her to <a target="_blank" href="https://www.insider.com/3-ways-anxiety-can-benefit-you-2022-11">reframe her thinking</a> so that her emotion is not dictating her actions. One reframing could be: "I may feel awkward right now, but I'm also having this conversation, and that's a huge step for me and worth being proud of."Through these small moments, I know my kids will grow and build a sustainable level of confidence and resilience. Most of all, I hope they'll embrace social discomfort as a chance for growth, just like my parents taught me.

Equity benchmarks <keyword id="6484188" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sensex" source="Orion">Sensex</keyword> and <keyword id="6354813" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="nifty" source="Orion">Nifty</keyword> declined nearly 1 per cent on Friday, in tandem with a weak trend in overseas markets amid hawkish tone of global central banks. The 30-share BSE Sensex fell 461.22 points or 0.75 per cent to settle at 61,337.81. During the day, it tumbled 506.5 points or 0.81 per cent to 61,292.53. The broader NSE Nifty declined 145.90 points or 0.79 per cent to end at 18,269. From the Sensex pack, Mahindra &amp; Mahindra, Asian Paints, Dr Reddy's, Tata Consultancy Services, State Bank of India, Wipro, PowerGrid and Titan were the major laggards. Hindustan Unilever, HDFC Bank and Nestle were among the winners. Elsewhere in Asia, equity markets in Seoul, Tokyo and Shanghai ended lower, while Hong Kong settled in the green. Equity exchanges in Europe were trading in the red in mid-session deals. The US markets had ended sharply lower on Thursday. "Global markets extended their rout as the ECB (European Central Bank) and BoE (Bank of England) followed the Fed in raising policy rates by half a per cent while maintaining a hawkish tone on inflation. "The aggressiveness of central banks in combating inflation has raised concerns about the global economy's health. Despite attempts to recoup losses, lack of global support pushed the indices back into negative territory," said Vinod Nair, Head of Research at Geojit Financial Services. International oil benchmark Brent crude dipped 2.25 per cent to USD 79.38 per barrel. Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) offloaded shares worth Rs 710.74 crore on Thursday, according to exchange data.
