Amid the raging row over Prime Minister <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=narendra+modi&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Narendra </a><a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=narendra+modi&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Modi'</a>s educational qualification, the <keyword id="6355711" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Gujarat-University">Gujarat University</keyword> today shared details of his MA degree saying he scored 62.3 per cent as an external student of the varsity. 
 
The details were shared by the Gujarat University after the Central Information Commission directed it to provide the same to Delhi Chief Minister <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=arvind+kejriwal&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Arvind Kejriwal</a>, who had recently criticised the functioning of the transparency panel. 
 
"Narendra Damodardas Modi passed his MA in Political Science in 1983 with first class, securing 499 out of 800 marks, which comes to 62.3 per cent as an external student," Gujarat University's Vice Chancellor M N Patel told PTI today. 
 Kejriwal, in a letter to CIC in response to an RTI application seeking details of his electoral photo identity card (EPIC), demanded that while he was ready to share information sought by RTI applicants, the CIC must also order disclosure of <keyword id="994722" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="educational-qualifications">educational qualifications</keyword> of the PM. 
 After Kejriwal's letter, the CIC had on Friday ordered <keyword id="6360099" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Delhi-University">Delhi University</keyword>, from where he pursued his Bachelor of Arts (BA) course, and Gujarat University, from where he completed his MA, to reveal details of his education qualifications. 
 
Vice Chancellor Patel said he has not received any order of CIC till now, but he came to know about it from media, and will give the details to concerned applicants if he receives the order.

"The details (of Modi's degree) were sought through several Right to Information (RTI) applications filed before the university, but we were not in a position to share the details under the RTI Act on technical grounds," Patel said. 
 
"The details of marks can only be provided to the candidate himself, and we do not provide details of university records beyond 20 years," he said. 
 
When asked about the details of Modi's BA degree, Patel said they do not have it. 
 
"Modi did his MA as an external candidate. He secured 237 out of 400 marks in MA first year, and 262 out of 400 marks in MA second year," Patel said giving the details. 
 
"The breakup of marks in second year MA shows that Modi 64 marks in political science, 62 marks in European and social political thoughts, 69 marks in modern India/political analysis, and 67 marks in political psychology," he said. 
 
The CIC, acting on the letter from Kejriwal, had asked the Delhi University and Gujarat University to "make best possible search for the information regarding degrees in the name of Mr Narendra Damodardas Modi in the year 1978 (Graduation in DU) and 1983 (Post Graduation in GU) and provide it to the appellant Mr Kejriwal as soon as possible"

His total assets include a fixed deposit of ₹2.86 crore with the State Bank of India (SBI), ₹80,304 in two bank accounts in Gandhinagar and Varanasi, and ₹52,920 cash in hand. Additionally, he holds gold investments worth ₹2.67 lakh in the form of four gold rings. The Prime Minister has invested ₹9.12 lakh in National Savings Certificates, marking an increase of nearly ₹2 lakh since 2019. He has no outstanding loans and lists his sources of income as 'salary from government' and 'interest from bank'. Gandhinagar, Feb 26 () No new taxes were proposedin the Gujarat budget for 2020-21, presented by the BJPgovernment on Wednesday, which saw a healthy allocation of Rs31,955 crore for education, Rs 11,243 crore for health and Rs7,423 crore for the agriculture sector.The Rs 2,17,287-crore budget for the next fiscal hasan overall surplus estimates of Rs 275 crore.In the budget presented on the first day of theassembly session, Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel, who alsoholds the finance portfolio, proposed to reduce electricityduty for shops and offices, cold storages, religious placesand dharmshalas, giving benefits of Rs 320 crore to them.Patel, who presented the budget for the eighth time,did not propose any new taxes.Of the total budget of Rs 2,17,287 crore, as perestimates, the developmental expenditure is expected to be Rs1,33,283 crore and non-developmental expenditure at Rs 80,400crore.The size of the budget for the next fiscal indicatesan increase of Rs 12,472 crore over the last one.Patel, while presenting the budget, told the Housethat special focus has been placed on health, education, watermanagement, animal husbandry, rural and urban development,agriculture and overall social development.Patel allocated Rs 7,423 crore for the agriculturesector and Rs 31,955 crore for the education department.To encourage cow urine and manure-based farming, acultivator shifting to such agriculture methods will be givenan assistance of Rs 10,800 per year to rear cows, he said.Patel made a provision of Rs 50 crore to cover around50,000 farmers under this scheme.To improve primary education scenario, Patel said thegovernment will construct 7,000 new rooms in state-run schoolswith an estimated cost of Rs 650 crore.On the higher education front, Patel said a provisionof Rs 7 crore has been made to start a School of DefenceStudies at the Gujarat University in collaboration with theDRDO.Similarly, a sum of Rs 12 crore has been allocated toIITRAM (Institute of Infrastructure Technology Research andManagement) to start Department of Advance Defence Technologyin collaboration with the DRDO.Patel alloted Rs 11,243 crore for the health andfamily welfare department.While Rs 450 crore has been allotted for the AyushmanBharat Yojna (a Centre-sponsored health scheme), Patel said Rs27 crore will be spent for purchasing 150 new ambulances.Announcing a provision of Rs 3,150 crore for the womenand child development department, Patel said 'Rann Anganwadis'(child care centres) will be opened in desert areas for thechildren of 1,500 saltpan worker families.He also added that 'mini anganwadis' will be opened incentral jails in major cities.To encourage Gujarati diaspora donors wanting to dosomething for their native places, Patel announced a newscheme called 'Madre Vatan'.Under this scheme, the government will contribute amatching amount of donation given by such donors fordeveloping various facilities such as schools, anganwadicentres, roads, water tanks and ponds.For making Gujarat plastic-free, Patel announced a newscheme wherein rag pickers collecting dry waste and plastictrash will be given financial assistance.Patel said the world's largest hybrid energy park iscoming up at Kutch district. It has capacity to generate25,000 megawatt of electricity per year at one place byharnessing solar and wind energy.To add some more tourist attractions near the Statueof Unity at Kevadiya and nearby areas in Narmada district, aprovision of Rs 387 crore has been made in the budget.Patel proposed a reduction in electricity duty onshops and offices. From the present 25 per cent, Patelproposed 20 per cent levy.While this relief will benefit 30 lakh people, thestate will have to forgo revenue of Rs 320 crore every year.The finance minister also proposed to reduceelectricity duty levied on religious places and dharmshalas.He proposed to reduce electricity duty on religiousplaces from 25 per cent to 7.5 per cent for rural areas and to15 per cent for urban areas.For dharmshalas, which currently pay 25 per cent duty,Patel proposed to slash it to 15 per cent for high-tensionconnections and 10 per cent for low-tension connections. No new taxes in Gujarat budget; focus on education, health

<ul><li><keyword id="6554535" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Dhruv-Prajapati">Dhruv Prajapati</keyword> a young arachnological researcher from <keyword id="6354766" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Gujarat">Gujarat</keyword> has identified seven confirmed new species of <keyword id="23924" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Spiders">spiders</keyword> in India.</li><li>He has named one of his discoveries Tropizodium <keyword id="5350457" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kalami">Kalami</keyword> after the country’s late President Dr APJ <keyword id="5141" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Abdul-Kalam">Abdul Kalam</keyword>.</li><li>He maintains that spiders are incredibly beneficial - they help regulate insect population and some species can even help determine soil toxicity.</li></ul>It’s tiny, it has eight legs, it is mostly harmless, yet it is one of the most feared creatures on Earth. Yes, we are talking about the humble, albeit slightly creepy, spider. And while most humans can’t resist picking up a broom to shoo the tiny arachnid away, a few stare at the creature with pure fascination. Dhruv Prajapati, a young researcher from Gujarat, is one of them. The 26-year-old has merged his passion with his studies and is one of very few arachnological researchers in India. In fact, while researching for his Master’s dissertation he managed to identify 77 species of spiders all within the Gujarat University campus in India. Some of these were quite rare and few knew of their existence in the state. In 2016, he was awarded the Young Naturalist Award by Sanctuary Asia, a well-known wildlife and nature conservation magazine from India. We spoke to the young man who is now pursuing a PhD in spider diversity from the Bharathiar University, Coimbatore. Over the past three years, he has conducted an in-depth study on these creatures spanning from the Western Ghats of Gujarat to Maharashtra, Goa and Kerala.

 During his research, Prajapati has identified seven confirmed new species of spiders in India. <ul><li>Two of these belong to the ant-eating spider genus Tropizodium that are incredibly rare and have for the first time been reported from India. He has named one of these Kalami, after the country’s late President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam and the other is called viridurbium. </li><li>The third and the fourth species, Cambalida tuma and Cambalida deorsa, belong to the genus Cambalida that was so far believed to be endemic to Africa and were reported by Dhruv for the first time in Asia.</li><li>The fifth and the sixth species are from the jumping spider family Salticidae - Stenaelurillus gabrieli (named after Padmabhushan awardee Dr Fr. Gabriel CMI, founder of the zoology department in Sacred Heart College, Thevara, Kochi), and Langelurillus onyx. Langelurillus is also an African genus and was reported in Asia for the first time. </li><li>And the seventh one is Meotipa multuma from the family Theridiidae.</li></ul> All these new findings were published in <a href="http://www.mapress.com/j/zt/">Zootaxa</a>, one of the world’s leading scientific journals from New Zealand. He is also working on a bunch of research papers on new species, which, when approved by the international reviewers, will be added to his kitty of discoveries. On being questioned on how dangerous the feared creatures are, he emphatically replied, “most species are not harmful. And while almost all species have a certain amount of venom, they can only harm small creatures that are their prey and if they happen to bite a human, which is quite rare, they can cause just a small infection.” That being said, Australian and North American spiders are much more venomous though they don’t attack humans very often. Not only are spiders supremely beneficial, some species are really quite pretty. A particular favourite of Prajapati’s is the peacock spider, that is found in Australia. Like birds, the male spiders court females by showing off their colourful abdomen, that have flaps which they raise while dancing, to impress the female. He also reiterated how important spiders are to our ecology. “Spiders help in regulating insect population. In fact, 80% of the insect population is eradicated by spiders, which is much more than that of birds, and this helps farmers significantly.” Ground spiders can also detect soil toxicity as they are sensitive to metal pollution in soil. And should they enter your homes, hold back your urge to screech and call for help, for they are also getting rid of the actual pests in your house, including mosquitoes and other bugs that bite, annoy and spread disease.

Jasper Infotech, which owns and operates online marketplace Snapdeal.com, has named <keyword id="2399832" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Anup-Vikal">Anup Vikal</keyword> as its new chief financial officer on Tuesday. Prior to his latest appointment, Vikal served as the chief financial officer of mobile network operator <keyword id="6360249" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Aircel">Aircel</keyword>. "We are very excited to have Anup on-board. His wealth of experience in building and executing the financial infrastructure in companies across complex large organisations in the country will further strengthen our leadership team," said Snapdeal co-founder and chief executive, <keyword id="219793" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Kunal-Bahl">Kunal Bahl</keyword>. 

	This is also latest recruitment by Snapdeal from the country's telecom sector, which has, thus far, proved to be a lucrative hunting ground for the country's consumer internet companies. 
 In June the company named <keyword id="6354287" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bharti-Airtel">Bharti Airtel</keyword>'s senior executive Anand Chandrasekaran as its chief product officer, while also naming Govind Rajan, also from Bharti Airtel, as its chief strategy officer. 

	Prior to joining Aircel, Vikal was the group CFO and head of strategy and IT at InterGlobe Enterprises, handling multiple responsibilities, including, incubating and developing new business, mergers and acquisitions and portfolio management.
 

	He has also served as director and head of Finance Shared Services for Colt Technology for three years, as well as in Bharti Airtel, where he headed the finance division for close to seven years, according to the press release. 
 

	Vikal holds a Bachelor's degree in Engineering from NIT, Surat and a Master's degree in Business Administration from South Gujarat University. 
 The appointment comes at a critical time for Snapdeal, the country's largest online marketplace in terms of sellers transacting on its platform, which has evolved from being yet another e-commerce company, into one that sells products and services - ranging from bill payments to personal loans - a model that resembles that of Chinese e-commerce giant <keyword id="163405" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Alibaba-Group">Alibaba Group</keyword>, also an investor in the online marketplace. 

	The company, which was co-founded by Wharton alum Kunal Bahl and IIT Delhi graduate Rohit Bansal in 2010, has, through a series of outright acquisitions and strategic investments, signalled its ambitions to create a complete e-commerce ecosystem, setting itself apart from rivals, Flipkart and Amazon. 
 

	"In the last few years, Snapdeal has emerged as a leader within the ecommerce and tech space and I look forward to joining the young and energetic Snapdeal family," Vikal stated in the press release. 
 

	Vikal's appointment also comes almost exactly two months after the company closed a funding round of $500 million, led by Taiwan's Foxconn, Alibaba Group and its largest stakeholder, Japanese media, telecom and internet conglomerate, SoftBank. 
 

	"Ecommerce is a dynamic and interesting space to work with and my focus will be to ensure we are financially well positioned yet nimble so that we can continue to create value for our customers, sellers, investors and employees," Vikal said.
