But it's still rare not to use any water to make that kind of movie.Turns out that's what the <keyword id="95258" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Tom-Hanks">Tom Hanks</keyword> World War II high seas movie "Greyhound" (available now on Apple TV Plus) pulled off thanks to a mix of dazzling CGI and game developer tech.Director Aaron Schneider ("Get Low") admits he's always been taken by the tech side of the business — before directing he was a cinematographer for years. But while teaming with Hanks to direct the star's script about an inexperienced US Navy captain (Hanks) whose destroyer leads a merchant ship convoy against German U-boats during World War II, Schneider got to go full-on geek.<h2>10,000 photos of the USS Kidd were taken to create a 3D model of the destroyer in 'Greyhound'</h2>Though Schneider and Hanks had been talking about making "Greyhound" since late 2017, the urgency by Steven Spielberg to make "The Post" (in which Hanks plays Washington Post editor-in-chief Ben Bradlee) put things on hold.That turned out to be a huge benefit for Schneider. He used that time to heavily research the battleships and submarines that took part in the "Battle of the Atlantic," which is what "Greyhound" is loosely based on.Instead of reading a few books and watching a couple of World War II <keyword id="406" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="60" keywordseo="Movies">movies</keyword>, Schneider built a website of everything he needed to know about US Navy battleships and German submarines.<div type="image" title="Aaron Schneider Robyn Beck Getty" height="1355" width="1806" msid="76946708" hostid="261"></div>"Pictures, YouTube links, Wikipedia pages, high-resolution Navy archive photographs. I collected all these things and built a research website that was indexed and categorized in a way that as the crew came on the movie, they could take a deep dive into whatever they wanted," Schneider told Insider.Then he went a step further. The director and a friend flew to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and took around 10,000 photographs of the retired USS Kidd, which is one of the last existing destroyers still in World War II configuration.Those photos were then used to create a photogrammetry — essentially a 3D model — of the entire destroyer. Schneider used the model to figure out where he would place the camera when shooting the movie while keeping the claustrophobic feel of being on a destroyer.Finally, it was time to shoot the movie in early 2018, but the tech didn't end.<h2>'Every drop of water in the movie is digital'</h2>"Every drop of water in the movie is digital," Schneider said. "Anything you see out the window or over Tom's shoulder. In fact, most of the fire is digital, too."Typically a movie set at sea will at some point have scenes shot in a giant water tank, but that wasn't the case with "Greyhound." The chilly Atlantic Ocean, the thrilling battles between the destroyers and U-boats, and even the ice that builds up outside the ship's pilothouse was all created with CGI.Thanks to the photogrammetry of the USS Kidd, the production knew the layout of every inch of a World War II-era destroyer. That was vital in how it built the pilothouse and balconies that we see Hank's Commander Ernest Krause character navigate through most of the movie, which was all built on a soundstage surrounded by a green screen.Those scenes were then matched by CGI shots of the rest of the massive ship.<div type="image" title="greyhound 2 apple TV plus" height="1056" width="2552" msid="76946715" hostid="261"></div><h2>A program called NVIDIA WaveWorks created the movie's authentic ocean battles</h2>To really get the feel that Krause and his destroyer were at sea, Schneider used NVIDIA WaveWorks, a plug-in program usually used by game developers that provides interactive ocean simulation."It creates an open ocean and floats an object on the ocean based on the physical mass," Schneider said. "So if I type in the model type of a boat, it will float that object the way it would be on the ocean."In other words, the program provided realistic blocking for the movie's boats based on real-life physics. The location of the destroyers, merchant ships, and the U-boats and battle sequences were all done through WaveWorks."The goal was always to use real physics into believing that this was actually photographed in a real-world kind of way," Schneider said. "If you wanted a big close shot where the ship goes by, well, if you were doing that in real life you could be on a little Zodiac, but a Zodiac floats differently on the water than a big camera ship, so you tell the program, 'float me on a Zodiac' and then all of a sudden the sea is affecting your camera ship much differently but still in a physically real way."The result is a thrilling 90-minute movie of non-stop battles on the high sea. But as we've learned here, the real bit of movie magic was that Tom Hanks was dry and warm the whole time while filming his scenes."Greyhound" is currently available on Apple TV Plus.

The director of 'Greyhound' says his WWII movie about an ocean battle was filmed without a single drop of water

<ul class="summary-list"><li>An Italian greyhound tested positive for monkeypox in Paris after its owners contracted the virus.</li><li>The owners developed pus-filled blisters and fevers 12 days before the dog also got a rash.</li></ul>Researchers described the first suspected canine monkeypox case in a dog that shared a bed with its infectious owners, and the case, raising new questions for researchers about human-to-animal transmission.The dog owners, two men in a non-exclusive partnership, began experiencing symptoms of monkeypox at the end of May when they presented at a hospital in Paris, according to a report published in the <a href="https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(22)01487-8/fulltext">Lancet</a> on August 10.Both men developed fevers, fatigue, and headaches after noticing pus-filled blisters on their bodies. They were careful to avoid contact with other people from the onset of their symptoms, and they quarantined their 4-year-old Italian greyhound as well.The dog developed pus-filled blisters on its stomach and a small anal lesion about 12 days after the humans in the house began showing symptoms. Testing revealed that both the men and the dog were infected with identical monkeypox virus.Monkeypox is known to infect a wide variety of mammals, and scientists are still learning which species can transmit the virus. Before this case, there were no reports of sick people spreading monkeypox to animals, according to the <a href="https://www.cdc.gov/poxvirus/monkeypox/veterinarian/monkeypox-in-animals.html">Centers for Disease Control and Prevention</a>."This is the first case that's occurred that we're aware of, at least in the Western world during this latest outbreak, so it clearly isn't something that happens very easily," Colin Parrish, a professor of veterinary virology at Cornell University, told Insider.<h2>Spillover infections in dogs are probably rare</h2>Parrish said that it is unlikely that human-to-dog transmission, or vice versa, poses a major risk in monkeypox outbreaks."At the moment, there's no evidence that dogs are going to become a standing infected host for monkeypox," he said.It's more likely that the case is a rare <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/omicron-deer-coronavirus-variant-spillover-humans-2022-2">spillover infection</a>, where a virus jumped to a new host outside of its primary host species. <a href="https://www.insider.com/guides/pets/can-dogs-get-the-flu-from-humans">Dogs and cats have been known to contract flu viruses</a> that typically infect humans, but infections in pets are uncommon, Insider previously reported.If viruses could easily spread between humans and dogs, there would be a lot more shared diseases between people and their pets, Parrish said.Still, the case shows a need for further research on monkeypox transmissions to and from pets, the authors of the Lancet report concluded. While there's not enough information to say that dogs are a secondary host for the virus, it's cause for consideration of how pet owners should self-isolate if they get monkeypox.<h2>Use common sense</h2>Dog owners who get monkeypox don't need to panic or send their pets away, but they should take sensible precautions to avoid close contact, Parrish said."Sharing a bed or having close contact with the animal certainly wouldn't be advised, but I would say that you can keep the dog in your house," he said. "As long as the dog isn't coming in contact with the lesions, then it's probably going to be fine."The CDC says people with monkeypox should <a href="https://www.cdc.gov/poxvirus/monkeypox/specific-settings/pets-in-homes.html">avoid contact with animals</a>, including pets and wildlife, to prevent spreading the virus. The agency does not recommend surrendering, euthanizing, or abandoning pets just because of a potential exposure or monkeypox case. Instead, simply avoid cuddling, kissing, and sharing sleeping areas or food with pets while you're infectious.

Compared to 3-5% Indians getting the severance pay as a safeguard clause in their contracts, it’s almost 60-70% in the USA. The scenario came to light when the exit of <keyword id="6354512" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Infosys">Infosys</keyword> CFO <keyword id="347003" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rajiv-Bansal">Rajiv Bansal</keyword> happened. It has been reported that the departing Infosys CFO was gifted the “so-called golden parachutes”. 
 "Most executives in India do not have any severance clauses in their contracts,” <keyword id="1966307" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Anandorup-Ghose">Anandorup Ghose</keyword>, partner, talent and rewards, <keyword id="2247343" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Aon-Hewitt-Consulting">Aon Hewitt Consulting</keyword> told The <keyword id="6474066" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="economic-times">Economic Times</keyword>. 
 
Except from the star CEOs, majority of who are in a position to dictate terms, most CXOs don’t have the luxury of getting severance packages, which act as an insurance. These are mostly equivalent to CXO’s fixed salary for anywhere between six months and two years. In some cases, according to The Economic Times, these include vested stock options. The global norm is one to three years of fixed salary and includes safeguards for the organisation. 
 “A mid-sized Indian company recently hired a senior executive at a US multinational as its CEO after agreeing to his demand for a severance package of nearly $1 million,” <keyword id="1052400" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Arun-Das-Mahapatra">Arun Das Mahapatra</keyword>, partner in charge of <keyword id="808338" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Heidrick-Struggles">Heidrick &amp; Struggles</keyword> in India told the ET. 
 In another ongoing mandate for a real estate firm, <keyword id="272875" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mahapatra">Mahapatra</keyword> told the financial daiy, the candidate is likely to insist on a severance clause because of the risks associated with the job. As perceived risk rise, so does the severance package. Severance for top employees in the technology and ecommerce/startups sectors have started to match global standards, said <keyword id="2091714" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sanchit-Vir-Gogia">Sanchit Vir Gogia</keyword>, CEO of Greyhound Research.

Network Intrusions Driving Network Security Market in India

<ul><li><keyword id="131553" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Intel-Capital">Intel Capital</keyword> has invested ₹1894.5 crore ($253.5 million) in <keyword id="3820" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mukesh-Ambani">Mukesh Ambani</keyword>’s Jio Platforms for a 0.39% stake. </li><li>Most of Intel Capital’s investments in the past have focussed on artificial intelligence (AI), including edge computing, cloud technology and network transformation — going from 4G to 5G. </li><li>Intel’s expertise in consumer electronics could also come in handy for the telecom giant if it forays into the world of laptops.</li></ul>Mukesh Ambani has scored yet another investment and this time it’s the investment arm of global tech and semiconductor major Intel corporation — Intel Capital. Intel Capital has invested ₹1894.5 crore ($253.5 million) in Jio for a 0.39% stake. “This move is more strategic rather than just an investment. It’s more of a pull rather than a push strategy,” Counterpoint analyst Tushar Pathak told Business Insider. Experts believe that Intel’s investment in Jio can help Reliance across three main verticals – Artificial Intelligence, the 5G push and a possible debut of a Jio laptop. Reliance too in a statement said that “Intel Capital invests globally in innovative companies with a focus on disruptive technology areas like cloud computing, artificial intelligence and 5G – opportunities where Jio is also innovating and investing for growth.” Using Intel’s AI expertise to manage data over 500 million subscribers Bernstein’s report from June estimated that Jio would <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/news/jio-to-capture-48-market-share-by-fy25-bernstein/articleshow/76420507.cms">capture nearly half the Indian market</a> by 2025 — calling the company the ‘new king of Indian telecommunications’. It forecasts that Jio’s subscriber base will jump from its current standing at 388 million subscribers to cross 500 million by 2023 to hit 609 million by 2025. “If that happens, it’s a massive amount of data on a particular platform. That is what is exciting these investors, especially someone like Intel Capital,” said Pathak. Most of Intel Capital’s investments in the past have <a href="https://techcrunch.com/2017/09/18/intel-capital-has-invested-over-1-billion-in-companies-focused-on-ai/">focussed on artificial intelligence</a> (AI), including edge computing, cloud technology and network transformation — going from 4G to 5G. “When 500 million subscribers will interact and create a massive database, the role of AI is going to be huge for a company like Jio. A lot of their users will have a cross-platform approach,” Pathak noted. The 5G dream Reliance has been gunning for 5G and Ambani has plans to test <keyword id="6354504" type="DEFINITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="reliance-jio">Reliance Jio</keyword>’s own 5G network in-house — if it gets the requisite approval from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT). According to Pathak, Intel’s impetus is to keep an eye on companies which have the ability to make the technological shift, something that only happens once every decade. In 2020, it’s the shift to 5G. A Jio executive wrote on <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/posts/activity-6684675263038550016-YKLP/">LinkedIn</a> that the Jio and Intel’s leadership in ORAN and OpenRan will benefit the growth and transformation of next-generation networks. ORAN and OpenRan are open source 5G software. “Intel has advanced Edge computing offerings across processors, analytics, AI and the access to this technology can help Jio Platforms engineering teams make significant pace with their 5G technology and IoT ecosystem rollouts,” said a report by <a href="https://greyhoundresearch.com/intel-will-help-jio-platforms-expedite-on-its-compute-to-cloud-vision/">Greyhound research. </a> A Jio laptop soon? Intel’s expertise in consumer electronics could also come in handy for the telecom giant. Jio had already marked its foray into the consumer electronics segment with mobiles and the partnership with Intel can help mark its debut in another segment – laptops where Intel has a majority market share. “Intel can help Jio launch computing devices (Laptops and Tablets) and accessories like cameras. French researchers have documented the first case of a dog with confirmed monkeypox virus infection that might have been acquired through human transmission. Published in medical journal <keyword id="456544" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="The-Lancet" source="Orion">The Lancet</keyword>, a team from the <keyword id="1487229" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="sorbonne-university" source="Orion">Sorbonne University</keyword> in Paris recorded the case of <keyword id="14704650" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Monekypox-virus" source="Orion">monekypox virus</keyword> in two men who have sex with men: an HIV-positive <keyword id="268421" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="latino" source="Orion">Latino</keyword> man, aged 44 years, living with undetectable viral loads on antiretrovirals; and a HIV-negative white man, aged 27 years. Twelve days after the onset of monkeypox symptoms, their male Italian greyhound, aged 4 years and with no previous medical disorders, tested positive for the virus. The men, who are non-exclusive partners living in the same household, presented with anal skin ulcer 6 days after sex with other partners. In the Latino man, anal skin ulcer was followed by rash on the face, ears, and legs, while the white man had it on the legs and back. In both cases, rash was associated with weakness, headaches, and fever 4 days later. The dog, who was co-sleeping with the men, presented with mucocutaneous (involving both typical skin and mucous membrane) lesions, including red, tender bumps with white pus on abdomen and anal skin ulcer. The team sequenced monkeypox virus DNA from the dog and the Latino man and found that the samples contained virus of the hMPXV-1 clade, lineage B.1, which has been spreading in non-endemic countries since April. "To the best of our knowledge, the kinetics of symptom onset in both patients and, subsequently, in their dog suggest human-to-dog transmission of monkeypox virus," Sophie Seang,from theA University's Infectious Diseases Department, along with her team wrote in the paper. Given the dog's skin and mucosal lesions as well as the positive monkeypox virus PCR results from anal and oral swabs, we hypothesise a real canine disease, not a simple carriage of the virus by close contact with humans or airborne transmission (or both)," the team added. In endemic countries, only wild animals (rodents and primates) have been found to carry monkeypox virus. However, transmission of monkeypox virus in prairie dogs has been described in the US and in captive primates in <keyword id="28249" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="europe" source="Orion">Europe</keyword> that were in contact with imported infected animals. But infection among domesticated animals, such as dogs and cats, has never been reported, the researchers said, suggesting the need to keep pets away from infected patients. "Our findings should prompt debate on the need to isolate pets from monkeypox virus-positive individuals," the team said, calling for further investigation on secondary transmissions via pets.
