<keyword id="55283" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Corporate-affairs-minister">Corporate Affairs Minister</keyword> <keyword id="42575" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Arun-Jaitley">Arun Jaitley</keyword> told the Lok Sabha that <keyword id="97393" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Competition-Commission-of-India">Competition Commission of India</keyword> (CCI) has received four cases against Google for alleged abuse of dominant position. 
 
CCI has directed its Director General (DG) to investigate these cases under the provisions of the Competition Act, he said in a written reply. 
 "In two cases filed by <keyword id="2842126" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Consim-Info-Pvt-Ltd">Consim Info Pvt Ltd</keyword> and Consumer Unity &amp; Trust Society, both against <keyword id="93636" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Google-Inc">Google Inc</keyword> and <keyword id="338187" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Google-India-Pvt-Ltd">Google India Pvt Ltd</keyword>, a combined investigation report has been submitted by DG, CCI," Jaitley said. 
 
DG is the investigation arm of the regulator and cases are referred to it by the Commission when there is prima-facie evidence of violations. 
 Two other cases have been filed against <keyword id="192356" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Vishal-Gupta">Vishal Gupta</keyword> and <keyword id="2842127" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Albion-InfoTel-Ltd-">Albion InfoTel Ltd.</keyword> These have been filed against Google Inc, <keyword id="1886515" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Google-Ireland-Ltd">Google Ireland Ltd</keyword> and <keyword id="45395" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Google-India">Google India</keyword>. 
 
"The cases filed do not allege any financial loss to the government," Jaitley said. 
 
To a separate query on whether there have been violations of Companies Act, 2013, by private companies with regard to payment of salary and other allowances to employees, in the last three years, he said the relevant provisions came into force only from April 1, 2014. 
 
"The salaries of managerial personnel or employees of a private company, except the salaries of board level managerial personnel of a subsidiary of a listed company are not regulated under the Act," he said in another written reply.

Google is being investigated under charges of being anti-competitive

The Competition Commission of India (<keyword id="47183" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="CCI">CCI</keyword>) has ordered a fresh investigation against search engine giant <keyword id="6355629" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Google">Google</keyword> for allegedly abusing its position in the online search advertising space. The commission is already probing the company’s alleged ‘anti-competitive business practices.’ 
 The order was passed following a complaint by Vishal Gupta against Google Inc, Google Ireland Ltd and Google India Pvt Ltd, alleging that Google <keyword id="183042" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="AdWords">AdWords</keyword> accounts are ‘opaque and not transparent.’ 
 
The CCI has also asked its director general to look into the role of persons (if any) who were in charge and were accountable to the firms for their businesses. 
 
In its order, the commission said, "Google's practices prima-facie stem, to a large degree, from its undisputable dominance in the online search market. Therefore, Google's practices towards AdWords customers such as the RTS (remote technology support) firms in this case, need to be investigated. 
 
"The investigation also needs to determine if Google could have taken less damaging courses of action, such as filtering out fraudulent firms and maintaining contracts with firms that have been operating genuinely for long periods of time," the CCI added. 
The AdWords programme, under which Google sells keywords to advertisers and displays those as online ads, ensures high earnings for the company. 
 
The complainant alleged that several remote tech support companies, including his firm, had been suspended from the AdWords programme to promote Google's activities in an “unfair, discriminatory and uncompetitive manner.” 
 
According to the complaint, Google had a vague and unclear 'user safety policy,' leading to abuse of its dominance. By abusing its dominant position to limit the number of remote tech support companies, “Google had caused prejudice to consumers,” it alleged. 
 Gupta, his family and associates own <keyword id="2240436" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Shyam-Garment-Group-of-Companies">Shyam Garment Group of Companies</keyword>, which includes Shyam Garment Pvt Ltd (SGL) and Delhi Call Centre Pvt Ltd. 
 
The CCI is already probing allegations that Google has abused its dominant position in the Internet search space. Regarding this case, the commission has recently imposed a penalty of Rs 1 crore on Google for failing to provide information pertaining to the investigation.

CCI Orders Fresh Probe Into Google AdWords

Apple is launching a major new environmental initiative in China as part of its commitment to "power all its operations worldwide on 100 percent renewable energy."
Partnering with the World Wildlife Fund, the Cupertino company plans to "protect as much as 1 million acres of responsibly managed working forests which provide fiber for pulp, paper and wood products."
It also plans to increase its use of renewable energy sources at its manufacturing facilities in China.
Much of Apple's manufacturing is done in China - but the Asian country's poor environmental track record is at odds with Apple's increasing commitment to green issues. China is currently the top polluter in the world, responsible for almost 25% of global carbon emissions, <a href="http://data.worldbank.org/indicator/EN.ATM.CO2E.KT/countries">according to data from the World Bank</a>. The US, the next highest, clocks in at around 16%.
Last month, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/r-sunpower-apple-to-build-solar-projects-in-china-2015-4">Apple announced it was partnering with SunCorp to build two solar plants in China's Suchuan province</a>, which the company says "will generate far more energy than needed to power all of Apple's corporate offices and retail stores in China."
And elsewhere in the world, <a href="http://uk.businessinsider.com/apple-invests-500-million-on-data-centre-in-ireland-2015-2">Apple announced it was spending $2 billion building 2 renewably-powered data centers in Ireland and Denmark in February</a>.
Apple also r<a href="http://uk.businessinsider.com/apple-buys-forestland-2015-4">ecently bought 36,000 acres of private forestland in Maine and North Carolina</a> with the Conservation Fund as part of a commitment to get 100% of paper packaging from renewable sources. The China announcement - far larger in scope - shows the Cupertino company doubling down on this pledge.
Apple CEO Tim Cook said that Apple is "excited to work with leaders in our supply chain who want to be on the cutting edge of China's green transformation."In addition to Apple, <a href="http://www.wired.co.uk/news/archive/2014-11/20/amazon-runs-on-100-percent-renewable">Amazon, Google and Facebook have all pledged</a> to shift to 100% renewable energy over the long-term.

BEIJING-May 11, 2015-Apple® today announced an expansion of its renewable energy and environmental protection initiatives in China, including a new multi-year project with World Wildlife Fund to significantly increase responsibly managed forests across China. The new forestland program aims to protect as much as 1 million acres of responsibly managed working forests which provide fiber for pulp, paper and wood products.
Apple's goal is to achieve a net-zero impact on the world's supply of sustainable virgin fiber and power all its operations worldwide on 100 percent renewable energy.
"Forests, like energy, can be renewable resources," said Lisa Jackson, Apple's vice president of Environmental Initiatives. "We believe we can run on naturally renewable resources and ensure that we protect-and create-as much sustainable working forest as needed to produce the virgin paper in our product packaging. Apple also announced its intent to expand its industry-leading renewable energy projects to manufacturing facilities in China.

Today's announcements come three weeks after Apple launched its first major solar project in China. Solar installations in Sichuan Province will generate far more energy than needed to power all of Apple's corporate offices and retail stores in China.
Apple is partnering with Leshan Electric Power Co., Sichuan Development Holding Co., Ltd, Tianjin Tsinlien Investment Holding Co., Ltd, Tianjin Zhonghuan Semiconductor Co., Ltd, and SunPower Corporation on the project encompassing two 20-megawatt solar farms. Together the project will generate up to 80 million kilowatt hours per year of clean energy, enough to power the equivalent of 61,000 Chinese homes. That's clean energy added to the grid that would otherwise not be there.
The solar projects were carefully designed to minimize their ecological impact and protect the grasslands that support the yak population, which is also important to the local economy. Today 87 percent of Apple's global operations run on renewable energy, and the Sichuan Province solar project will bring Apple even closer to its commitment to reach 100 percent.
"Apple's support for this project and its environmental leadership show that protecting forests is not just good for society but important for business," said Lo Sze Ping, Chief Executive Officer for WWF China. "This collaboration between our two organizations will seek to reduce China's ecological footprint by helping produce more wood from responsibly managed forests within its own borders.
