A research report by Morgan Stanley stated that <keyword id="1379162" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Goibibo-com">Goibibo.com</keyword> was number one in hotel booking volumes in India and was the most preferred OTA by hoteliers across parameters in India. 
 
Mobile contributed to 71% of the bookings in the month of December 2015 up from 42% a year ago. 
 
The report added that Goibibo was also the fastest growing hotels OTA in India. 
 
Ashish Kashyap, Founder of ibibo, said, “We are excited that we have achieved the No 1 position in India in the hotels category. We have been able to achieve the same by strengthening network effects, providing superior user experience on mobile and delivering powerful tools and technologies to thousands of hotels.” 
 
Meanwhile, 45% of hotel bookings on Goibibo comes from 0-2 star rated hotels, followed by 38% from 3 star category and 17% is garnered from 4-5 star rated hotels. Business destinations contribute close to 45% of hotel bookings whereas leisure destinations constitutes to about 55% of hotel booking volumes.

Goibibo becomes number 1 in hotel booking volumes in India: Report

<ul><li>Insurtech startup <keyword id="4943836" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Acko">Acko</keyword> has raised $65 million in a series C round. </li><li>Founded by Varun Dua in 2016, the startup has marquee investors like Amazon, Accel Partners, SAIF Partners among others. </li><li>This funding round takes Acko’s <keyword id="51393" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="valuation">valuation</keyword> to a reported $300 million. </li></ul>Insurance technology startup Acko has <a href="https://www.vccircle.com/binny-bansal-others-invest-65-mn-in-digital-insurance-startup-acko/">raised</a> $65 million from <keyword id="6364080" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="binny-bansal">Binny Bansal</keyword>, former Flipkart co-founder, and Kabir Misra, former SoftBank Managing Partner. The series C funding round with a <a href="https://www.vccircle.com/binny-bansal-others-invest-65-mn-in-digital-insurance-startup-acko/">reported</a> valuation of $300 million also saw participation from Intact Insurance (Canada’s property and casualty insurer) and existing marquee investors like Amazon, Accel Partners, SAIF Partners and TechPro Ventures. Acko, was founded by Varun Dua in 2016, and has gone on to make its mark in the Indian insurtech industry. In the recent past, Acko has been signing partnerships one after the other venturing into different verticals within insurance. The insurtech startup tied up with <a href="https://www.thehindubusinessline.com/money-and-banking/acko-partners-goibibo-for-travel-insurance-foray/article26006200.ece">Goibibo</a> to offer travel insurance to the latter’s users. Acko also partnered with <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/small-biz/startups/newsbuzz/acko-general-insurance-partners-with-driveu-to-provide-trip-cover-for-car-owners/articleshow/66118573.cms">DriveU</a> to offer trip cover to car owners who opt to hire drivers from the latter’s platform. Interestingly, the startup also formed a partnership with <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/small-biz/sme-sector/au-small-finance-bank-partners-with-insurtech-firm-acko-general-insurance/articleshow/68269212.cms">AU Small Finance Bank</a> in early March to bring about customised insurance deals for their users. India has seen a slow penetration of the insurance sector but things are changing now. According to <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/industry/banking/finance/insure/insurance-industry-to-touch-280-billion-by-fy20-assocham/articleshow/65740339.cms">reports,</a> the Indian insurance industry is set to grow to $280 million by 2019-20. This Indian insurance startup may be worth $300 million in just over two years

Although the consolidation talks are in initial stages, Oyo Rooms may buy its rival Zo Rooms. 
 
Industry experts say the consolidation is likely to take place in areas such as food delivery, local services, online classifieds as well as online retail. 
 
This move by the hotel aggregator Oyo Rooms comes after India's largest online travel agencies, MakeMyTrip and Goibibo, blocked Oyo Rooms and Zo Rooms from listing and marketing hotel properties on their websites. 
 
Oyo Rooms, which is backed by Japan's SoftBank and has an estimated worth of around Rs 2,500 crore ($400 million) after its latest funding, books around 250,000 rooms every month. 
 
Whereas, Zo Rooms, which is backed by Tiger Global and was valued at about $90 million after latest funding round, books about 100,000 rooms, which is quite small a number when compared to Oyo Rooms. 
 
However, there is no confirmation on whether the deal has been finalised and the size of the transaction during the buyout. 
 
Meanwhile, apart from this deal, we may see a number of mergers as many Internet firms are in acquiring mode, such as Quikr and Commonfloor.

Oyo Rooms may buy its smaller rival Zo Rooms

It is not everyday that two A-list celebrities come together. In the last two years, this rare occurrence has happened at least thrice, bringing to the fore a class of power couples.  Hitting the nail before they turn a married couple, e-commerce giant Flipkart roped Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor for a national campaign. They play the role of a couple too where Alia is seen commenting on Ranbir’s clothing style. Alia who is high on successes like Raazi and Gully Boy makes more from brand endorsements, as compared to Ranbir who had a spate of flops before the release of Sanju this year. The 26-year-old actor, Alia Bhatt has collaborated with some of the best brands in India and is the first celeb to promote Uber Eats, Nokia and Make My Trip. She reportedly <a href="https://www.marketingmind.in/reasons-why-alia-bhatt-has-become-popular-in-brand-endorsements/">has a brand value </a> of $98,10,700. Ranbir Kapoor reported has a brand value of ₹1.39 billion, according to Duff and Phelps' Celebrity Brand Valuation Report 2018. But together, both their fortunes could change and so will that of the brands they would be a part of.  The star couple Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh have around 40 brands together in their kitty. And some of them are competitors. For instance, Ranveer Singh endorses Make My Trip while Deepika promotes GoIbibo. But electronics brand Lloyd also brought them together to do what they do best--as newlyweds to endorse the company’s household electronics like air conditioners, LED TVs among others. According to a report by ESP properties, “Their successive blockbusters and the buzz around their wedding for months before the event, was enough to earn them a spot in the top 3 brand favorite stars of the year.” Ranveer Singh earns over ₹840 million from more than 20 brand he endorses. He charges between ₹30-40 million to ₹40 million per advertisement. Ranveer Singh earned ₹626 millions alone in 2017 from brand endorsement, said Forbes list of 100 celebrities for 2017. Deepika Padukone is the top earner in brand endorsements amongst actresses. She promotes 18 brands and earns ₹750 million. In fact, it was an ad shoot that brought this couple together as they met in 2013 while shooting for Head and Shoulders. They recently shot an ad for Google Duo where Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli show their goofy relationship. “In 2017, #Virushka was evidently the year’s Power Couple.Colgate skillfully leveraged the fandom of both the stars separately this year.” said the ESP Properties report.
