Auto components maker <keyword id="16974120" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="lifelong-group" source="Orion">Lifelong Group</keyword> on Wednesday said it has acquired stressed automobile after-sales service startup <keyword id="3933763" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="gomechanic" source="Orion">GoMechanic</keyword> for an undisclosed amount. The <keyword id="16975195" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="gomechanic-business" source="Orion">GoMechanic business</keyword> has been acquired by the Lifelong Group as the majority shareholder under Servizzy consortium, the Delhi-based firm said in a statement. The Lifelong Group is an Indian company established in 1985 and has been looking to expand its operations in the automotive service and repair industry. This acquisition and new ownership structure with Lifelong Group, a manufacturer of automotive components, medical devices, and a player in the e-commerce space, heralds a new phase for GoMechanic business, it added. The Servizzy consortium, to be led by the Lifelong Group, emerged as the strongest bid in this process for the acquisition of the GoMechanic Business in accordance with the terms and conditions contained in the agreement, it noted. Financial details regarding the deal were not shared. In January this year, GoMechanic co-founder <keyword id="2254426" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="amit-bhasin" source="Orion">Amit Bhasin</keyword> admitted to errors in financial reporting, following which a forensic audit has been ordered and a business restructuring undertaken which will see 70 per cent of the 1,000-odd workforce being laid off. Nearly two years after it raised a mammoth USD 42 million in funding, it emerged that GoMechanic cooked its financial books by inflating revenues. GoMechanic navigated the recent challenges by continuing operations across 800 workshops and servicing 30,000 vehicles in January. "Acquisition of the GoMechanic business, aligns with our strategic vision of synergising the Lifelong Group's proven expertise in the automotive industry. We are focused on building upon GoMechanic's business journey, and will continue revolutionizing the Indian automotive service and repair industry," a Lifelong Group official spokesperson said. Lifelong Group diversified into auto component manufacturing in 1995, medical devices in 2005 and e-commerce in 2015. Lifelong Group-led consortium acquires troubled car servicing startup GoMechanic

New Delhi, Dec 30 () Start-up technology-enabled car service provider GoMechanic on Monday said it has raised Rs 105 crore in Series B funding in a round led by Chiratae Ventures and Sequoia Capital.
 Orios Venture Partners was the other investor which participated in the 3rd round of institutional funding, GoMechanic said in a statement.
 The investment will be used to support expansion into 10 more cities by the end of 2020 in its EV thrust, brand promotion and in streamlining spare parts procurement, it added.
 Commenting on the fund raised, GoMechanic Co-Founder Kushal Karwa said, "The money raised will allow us to continue our aggressive geographical expansion besides investment in innovation to keep us ahead of the curve."
 GoMechanic Co-Founder Amit Bhasin said the current fundraise will reinvigorate the company's thrust in providing scalable technology first solutions for the USD 11 billion unorganised automotive repairs and maintenance market.
 Chiratae Ventures Executive-Director Ranjith Menon said, "India is among the largest car manufacturers in the world where bulk of the cars on the road are out of warranty. We are excited to work with the GoMechanic team addressing this huge gap in a technology first manner."
 Commenting on the company's investment in GoMechanic, Sequoia Capital India LLP Vice President Abhishek Mohan said, "In the 12 months since Sequoia India led the Series A, the company has scaled many times on the back of its asset light network of workshops and most importantly built true customer love. Given the massive market potential of USD 5 billion plus, we are excited to see what comes next."
 Earlier this year, GoMechanic had raised Rs 35 crore in a series-A round led by Sequoia Capital and Orios Venture Partners. In 2017, it had raised close to Rs 7 crore from Orios Venture Partners and Kunal Bahl and Rohit Bansal.

Reliance Jio launches JioMotive, a vehicle tracking and diagnostics device

In yet another sensational story of another Indian founder taking his startup for a joyride, Broker Network (operated by 4B <keyword id="50752" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="networks" source="Orion">Networks</keyword>) founder <keyword id="536283" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="rahul-yadav" source="Orion">Rahul Yadav</keyword> reportedly maintained a luxurious lifestyle such as owning a Mercedes-Maybach and hired a boardroom at the Taj Land's End for Rs 80,000 per day, as employees were left unpaid for months. According to a report in leading startup news portal Inc42, Broker Network burnt over Rs 280 crore in less than 18 months, while over 150 employees have not been paid since November last year. "Yadav turned to his long-time employees to borrow personal loans to pay employee salaries. One such top-level employee lent close to Rs 50 lakh to Yadav. He has filed a criminal complaint against Yadav," the report noted, citing sources. Other employees were also asked to take "advance salary" loans and transfer the amount to Yadav. Employees alleged that all through this, Yadav maintained a luxurious lifestyle. "Yadav told us luxuries such as his Maybach came from his earnings at Anarock," and he was "also looking to buy a Bentley," one employee was quoted as saying. Walking 8,000 steps - about four miles (6.4 kilometres) - one or two days a week may significantly reduce the risk of an early death, according to a study. While regular exercise is known to lower mortality risk, the study published in the journal <keyword id="7284222" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="jama-network-open" source="Orion">JAMA Network Open</keyword> looked at the health benefits of walking intensively only a few days a week. The findings showed that people who walked 8,000 steps or more one or two days a week were 14.9 per cent less likely to die over a 10-year period than those who never reached that mark. For those who walked 8,000 steps or more three to seven days a week, the mortality risk was even lower - 16.5 per cent. The health benefits of walking 8,000 steps or more one or two days a week appeared higher for participants aged 65 years and older. "The number of days per week taking 8,000 steps or more was associated with a lower risk of all-cause and cardiovascular mortality," said the researchers from <keyword id="492144" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="kyoto-university" source="Orion">Kyoto University</keyword> in <keyword id="6355311" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="japan" source="Orion">Japan</keyword> and the <keyword id="73593" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="university-of-california" source="Orion">University of California</keyword>, US. "These findings suggest that individuals may receive substantial health benefits by walking just a couple of days a week," they added. For the study, the team used daily step counts from the 3,100 participants in 2005 and 2006 and examined their mortality data 10 years later. Among the participants, 632 took 8,000 steps or more zero days a week, 532 took 8,000 steps or more one to two days a week and 1,937 took 8,000 or more steps three to seven days a week. According to the <keyword id="354254" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="mayo-clinic" source="Orion">Mayo Clinic</keyword>, walking for regular activity can reduce the risk of heart disease, obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure and depression. New Delhi, As global layoffs deepen, Indian startups are not far behind and have sacked thousands of employees in the past 3-4 months, with many more to be given pink slips in the coming months amid deepening funding winter. In <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword>, more than 21,000 employees have been laid off by more than 70 startups to day, including from unicorns like BYJU'S, <keyword id="6354720" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="ola" source="Orion">Ola</keyword>, MPL, Innovaccer, Unacademy, Vedantu, Cars24, <keyword id="2808667" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="oyo" source="Orion">OYO</keyword>, Meesho, Udaan and many more. The edtech sector has laid off the most employees, with 16 edtech startups laying off more than 8,000 employees to date. With the onset of January, more and more Indian companies are slashing jobs across the spectrum. The new year has already seen more than 16 homegrown startups sack employees in the country. Social media company <keyword id="3358959" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="sharechat" source="Orion">ShareChat</keyword> (Mohalla Tech Pvt Ltd) has laid off 20 per cent of its workforce due to uncertain market conditions. Backed by Twitter, Google, Snap and <keyword id="526777" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="tiger-global" source="Orion">Tiger Global</keyword>, ShareChat has about 2,300 employees, and the layoff impacted about 500 people at the company, Healthtech unicorn Innovaccer has sacked nearly 245 employees, or about 15 per cent of its workforce, across teams in India and the US. Innovaccer cofounder and CEO Abhinav Shashank cited an "uncertain macroeconomic environment" as the reason behind the job cuts, according to an internal mail sent to employees and accessed by leading startup news portal Inc42. This was the second layoff at the company in around 4-5 months' time amid the deepening funding winter and recession fears. In September last year, Innovaccer laid off nearly 120 employees, or less than 8 per cent of its workforce. Online food delivery platform <keyword id="6358977" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="swiggy" source="Orion">Swiggy</keyword> confirmed that the company is laying off 380 employees as food delivery growth slows. MediBuddy, an end-to-end digital healthcare platform in India, has laid off 8 per cent of its workforce, around 200 people, across all departments as a restructuring exercise. Homegrown online vehicle repair platform GoMechanic, backed by <keyword id="563136" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="sequoia-india" source="Orion">Sequoia India</keyword>, has laid off 70 per cent of its workforce as the startup struggles to raise funds amid serious concerns of accounting troubles. The company has asked the remaining staff to work without pay for three months, according to reports. Software-as-a-service (SaaS) voice automation startup Skit.ai has asked more than 115 employees to go, mostly from its India team, as part of the "restructuring process" amid the deepening funding winter. Even IT giant <keyword id="10862" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="wipro" source="Orion">Wipro</keyword> has laid off more than 400 fresher employees for poor performance in internal assessment tests. <ul><li><keyword id="18635" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Amazon">Amazon</keyword> is expanding its Flex program across 35 cities in India.</li><li>Through the <keyword id="3009758" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="amazon-flex">Amazon Flex</keyword> app, users with two-wheelers can sign up, choose their schedule to deliver packages.</li><li>Those who sign up for the programme can be a part of Amazon’s delivery force, and earn up to ₹120-₹140 an hour. </li></ul>Amazon is expanding its Flex program across 35 cities in India, through which any user can start delivering packages and earn money by the hour. Through the Amazon Flex app, users with two-wheelers can sign up, choose their schedule to deliver packages. To ensure safety, Amazon conducts a comprehensive background verification process of its new delivery partners, in addition to hands-on training. Those who sign up for the programme can be a part of Amazon’s delivery force, and earn up to ₹120-₹140 an hour. Amazon said that the expansion of the program from 3 cities in June 2019 to 35 cities in June 2020 has created tens of thousands of part-time opportunities for students, homemakers and more. “Amazon Flex partners enjoy the part time opportunity to earn more, especially at this time when the country is economically recovering from the impact of the nationwide lockdown. Their safety remains our top priority, and we are taking the right precautions, and have implemented a series of preventative health measures," said Prakash Rochlani, Director, Last Mile Transportation, Amazon India. Last year, India was the seventh country where Amazon launched the flex programme. Earlier in May 2020, the e-commerce giant had announced that it has 50,000 job openings for its fulfillment and delivery network which is inclusive of the Flex programme. These roles are contractual and seasonal and the time duration can vary depending on the cities and demand.
