<a href="http://www1.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=snapdeal&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Snapdeal</a>, which lost its number two position to <a href="http://www1.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=amazon+india&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Amazon India</a> recently, is doing everything it can to regain the market share. 
 To step up its delivery system and supply chain, <keyword id="541988" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="SnapDeal">Snapdeal</keyword> is planning to fully buy <keyword id="2230197" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="GoJavas">GoJavas</keyword>, its primary delivery partner. 
 
Presently, Snapdeal holds a minority yet significant stake in GoJavas. 
 
Snapdeal, last year, bought 42 per cent stake in GoJavas, which was valued at Rs 250 crore at that time. 
 ET quoted sources as saying Snapdeal will likely execute the acquisition through <keyword id="3489561" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="vulcan-express">Vulcan Express</keyword>, its end-to-end logistics unit.

Last year, Snapdeal COO <a href="http://www1.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=rohit+bansal&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Rohit Bansal</a> had said the <a href="http://www1.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=online+marketplace&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">online marketplace</a> had plans to rake in $300million to strengthen its supply chain and logistics infrastructure. 
 
Sources told ET that Go-Javas has been struggling to raise a fresh round of capital, and an acquisition by Snapdeal will be a win-win for both entities. "Snapdeal is dependent on GoJavas as its efficiencies had improved after working with them. Vulcan absorbing GoJavas is a close possibility as the marketplace had invested in the team that built Go-Javas, with Ghadge joining the latter," the second source told ET. 
 
"Ecommerce marketplaces are currently focused on improving their unit metrics and hence might be careful in considering investment in logistics companies," Manish Saigal, managing director at Alvarez and Marsal in India, told ET. 
 
In Feb this year, GoJavas delivered to nearly 300 towns and cities and set a target of increasing the number to 600-800 towns and cities in next one and a half years. 
 For Snapdeal, the acquisition is quite strategic as it lost its number two post to <keyword id="6354743" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Amazon-India">Amazon India</keyword>. 
 
Even Amazon is raking in money in its India arm to grasp market share.

Now at number 3, Snapdeal to buy GoJavas to regain market share

If reports are to be believed, Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba is all <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Will-Paytm-pave-the-way-for-Alibabas-entry-in-to-India/articleshow/51490871.cms">set to enter India</a>; and the news is in itself enough to set Indian ecommerce-focussed <keyword id="1474532" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="logistics-companies">logistics companies</keyword> in motion. These companies, like <keyword id="1560090" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Delhivery">Delhivery</keyword>, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Snapdeal-invests-20-mn-in-gojavas-to-reach-100-more-Indian-cities-easily/articleshow/49258885.cms">GoJavas</a> and Ecom Express are all standing in a queue to fetch a partnership from the global ecommerce giant.

Delhivery, backed by Tiger Global, even confirmed that it has had talks with Alibaba last month for a possible partnership. "We have discussed how best we can provide fulfilment for Alibaba, which is still finalising its India strategy. There is no official agreement yet," said Sahil Barua, Delhivery CEO. 
 Delhivery has been in the market for five years now, and has been under pressure to diversify its business portfolio especially after Flipkart moved some of its logistics business to its in-house logistics arm <keyword id="2057197" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="eKart">Ekart</keyword>. The ecommerce giant had been one of Delhivery’s top partners. 
 
Ekart, on the other hand, has recently <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Paytm-joins-hands-with-Flipkart-for-timely-deliveries/articleshow/51696229.cms">tied up with third-party players like Paytm</a>, ShopClues and Jabong, which has made it an emerging name in the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/E-commerce-shipping-a-great-business-opportunity-for-India-Post/articleshow/47720544.cms">B2B logistics industry</a>. 
 
As of now, AllCargo Logistics works for Alibaba’s cross-border shipments to India.

Indian logistic companies look forward to partnering with Alibaba for its India entry

<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Snapdeal">Snapdeal</a> is now servicing 60% orders from its own centres. This is in sharp contrast to the 7% at the start of 2015, the company’s Vice President-Operations Ashish Chitravanshi said. He added that the e-commerce player has added 1.3 million square feet of warehousing space spread over 25 cities. 
 
"By the end of 2015-16, we would have invested $150-200 million in our supply chain logistics. A major chunk of this is our investment in <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=GoJavas">GoJavas</a>," he said. 
 
The company's logistics team has grown 5 times to more than 1,000 people. <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Snapdeal">Snapdeal </a>introduced '<keyword id="541988" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="SnapDeal">Snapdeal</keyword> Instant' earlier this year to allow delivery within an hour. It has also launched four-hour delivery, card-on-delivery and 90-minute reverse pickups. 
 
Apparently, the company has also invested heavily in <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=supply-chain+logistics">supply-chain logistics</a> this year. 
Chitravanshi says the solid investment in logistics and supply chain has cut delivery times by 70% by moving bulk of sales to <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Snapdeal">Snapdeal</a> Plus and its fulfilment centres. 
 
"Next year, we will continue to strengthen our network and fulfilment channels. We are looking to leverage big data analytics in a big way to further improve our customer experience," said Chitravanshi.

This investment is in line with <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Snapdeal">Snapdeal</a> and gojavas’s strategic partnership signed earlier this year to build capacities and strengthen the supply chain ecosystem in the country. 
 In the past six months, Snapdeal has <keyword id="47916" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="invest">invest</keyword>ed $100 million to improve its delivery timelines by 70%. The company is going to invest an additional $200 million in the next 12 months to strengthen its supply chain. 
 
After cracking a deal with Snapdeal, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=logistics+player">gojavas</a>’ reach expanded to 150 more cities and towns. gojavas currently delivers products to 350 cities and town. Both the companies have worked together to come up with innovative last mile solutions like card-on-delivery, 90- minute reverse pick up and 4-hour delivery services. 
 
Commenting about the development, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Snapdeal+co-founder+Rohit+Bansal+">Snapdeal co-founder Rohit Bansal</a> said: “Our partnership with gojavas has been tremendously successful. gojavas is one of our best performing last mile logistics partners. Snapdeal invests $20 mn in gojavas to reach 100 more Indian cities easily

As the countdown for <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Diwali+">Diwali </a>has already begun, India’s leading <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=eCommerce+">eCommerce </a>industry is all set to organise attractive online sale to lure e-shoppers this festive season. 
 
As per an Economic Times report, industry majors like <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Flipkart">Flipkart</a>, <keyword id="18635" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Amazon">Amazon</keyword> and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Snapdeal+">Snapdeal </a>along with several small start-ups are expected to burn Rs 2,000 crore to attract consumers till the festive season ends. 
 Their planning is not limited to this, as celebrities like Shah Rukh Khan, <keyword id="6355923" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Aamir-Khan">Aamir Khan</keyword>, along with other stars will join the bandwagon to promote these online marketplaces on various social media platforms. If sources are to be believed, <keyword id="436047" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ecommerce">eCommerce</keyword> companies had spent Rs 1,300 crore just on marketing and promotion during the same time in 2014.

As per the media planner, until last year, online retailers had been spending 60% of their marketing budget for the festival season on television marketing. But this year, just about 35% is expected to go to television for marketing purpose. 
 <keyword id="2032258" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ashish-Jhalani">Ashish Jhalani</keyword>, founder of eTailing India &amp; Indian School of eBusiness (ISeB), said that his company tracked around 700 eCommerce firms of different scale and size in 2014. This year, the number has grown to more than 1,700, which includes small and big players, and points to market expansion, he said. 
 
A growing number of start-ups are also advertising to showcase their offerings and leave an impact on consumers. According to top media buying firms, the heavily-funded online start-ups are the ones splurging without watching returns on investment. 
 
"Unlike the general market sentiment of slump, advertising in media is seeing a significant up-swing. Almost all advertising (inventory) has been blocked in the October-December quarter," said Navin Khemka, managing partner (north and east region) at Group Mowned media buying firm Maxus, which represents Hero MotoCorp and Paytm. 
 
Lakshmi Narasimhan, chief growth officer at GroupM-South Asia, said, "A lot has to do with emerging categories in the online space. Online advertisers are neutralising losses of traditional advertisers and leading to huge spurt in demand. Retail sector (ecommerce plus brick and mortar) will be about 8-9%. The split is more or less equal between ecommerce and retailers." 
 A large corrugated boxes manufacturer, which supplies packaging material for <keyword id="6354742" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Flipkart">Flipkart</keyword> as well as Amazon, informed that the companies have just doubled the order as compared to last <keyword id="188" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="20" keywordseo="Diwali">Diwali</keyword>. 
 
Aman Jain, founder of cash-back site Go-Paisa said that a leading eCommerce firm has doubled the commissions for coupon companies and cash-back sites from 8% in August to 16% to woo more and more mobile customers. 
 Gurgaon-based logistics company <keyword id="2230197" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="GoJavas">GoJavas</keyword>, which counts <keyword id="541988" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="SnapDeal">Snapdeal</keyword>, Jabong and Lenskart among clients, is enhancing its automation. By September, an automatic sorting system that can process up to 1.5 lakh packages daily will be in place. "We expect volumes to touch two to three times of normal pre-festive season," said <keyword id="2230975" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vijay-Ghadge">Vijay Ghadge</keyword>, chief operating officer at GoJavas. 
 
Srini Murthy, senior vice-president for marketing at Snapdeal, said, this year his company will focus on customer experience. "We will try to make sure we give the best offers but the new news for the consumer will be great delivery experience and many more brands versus last year," he added.

Vijay Ghadge is the new COO of Snapdeal's Vulcan Express

With the talks of acquisition of <keyword id="541988" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="SnapDeal">Snapdeal</keyword> by <keyword id="6354742" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Flipkart">Flipkart</keyword> still in process, Jasper Infotech who owns the former has registered an FIR with the <keyword id="3470860" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="economic-offences-wing-of-delhi-police">Economic Offences Wing of Delhi Police</keyword> against former senior executives of Quickdel Logistics, the parent company of e-commerce logistics entity GoJavas. Reported yesterday, the FIR names former executive director of Quickdel Logistics Abhijeet Singh, along with promoters Praveen Sinha, <keyword id="91890" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Randhir-Singh">Randhir Singh</keyword> and Ashish Chaudhary as the main accused, registering a criminal complaint against them for cheating, forgery, conspiracy, criminal breach of trust and criminal misappropriation of funds. All four executives do not work at GoJavas anymore, according to an Economic Times news report. ET has got access of the copy of FIR. According to online marketplace Snapdeal, the company does not hold any shares in GoJavas and had filed a complaint in 2016 with the Delhi Police, which was duly investigated and the FIR registered on Friday. The FIR has been filed by <keyword id="4690412" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="krishna-mohan-chaudhary">Krishna Mohan Chaudhary</keyword>, director of legal at Snapdeal. Earlier Snapdeal owned 49.9% of shares in GoJavas till those were sold to Pigeon Express, when the latter took over. According to the ET news report, Snapdeal simply doesn’t want any bad investments in its book. "Jasper Infotech has no shareholding in Quickdel," said an emailed statement issued by a spokesperson in response to detailed queries by ET. "The complainant was induced into buying shares of Quickdel from Quickdel and Randhir Singh and Praveen Sinha. The complainant acquired 49.99% shareholding in Quickdel by paying an amount of Rs 119.99 crore to Randhir Singh and Praveen Sinha and Rs 237.27 crore to Quickdel," states the FIR. When contacted by ET, Sinha said that he was "unaware of the existence of the FIR." Sinha originally owned a significant minority share in the company along with co-promoters at a little less than 20% which was sold over a period of time to Jasper Infotech. All in all, Snapdeal invested Rs 357.26 crore in the Quickdel in 2015.

India’s <keyword id="436047" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ecommerce">eCommerce</keyword> market is undergoing an interesting phase. They are raising million dollar findings, trying out innovative ways to win customers, offering ‘unbelievable’ deals and what not. Amid all this, they are also trying to overthrow the competition and become the leaders in the eCommerce market place. <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Yes-you-heard-that-right-Snapdeals-selling-Yachts-now/articleshow/46631171.cms">Snapdeal</a>, is one such brand. Recently it was in news for raising <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Alibaba-Eyes-Indian-e-commerce-Market-Plans-To-Invest-In-Snapdeal/articleshow/42798937.cms">$500 million funds</a> with help from Taiwan's Foxconn, China's <keyword id="163405" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Alibaba-Group">Alibaba Group</keyword> and existing backer Japan's SoftBank. And now, <keyword id="541988" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="SnapDeal">Snapdeal</keyword> CEO Kunal Bahl has openly declared war against <keyword id="6354742" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Flipkart">Flipkart</keyword>. In an <a href="http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/industry/services/retail/snapdeal-on-course-to-topple-flipkart-from-top-says-ceo-kunal-bahl/articleshow/48736792.cms">exclusive interview to Economic Times</a>, Bahl said that he is looking forward to overthrow Flipkart and become India’s largest online electronic marketplace. 
 
The co-founder of <a href="http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/industry/services/retail/as-diwali-gets-closer-ecommerce-players-gear-up-with-discount-plan-to-woo-customers/articleshow/48737365.cms">Snapdeal </a>thinks that the company can become No. 1 (in terms of sales) by March 2016. While this sounds way too overambitious, the company’s performance in the recent month suggests that the e-tailer is on the right path. According to Bahl, Snapdeal pulled off $4 billion (about Rs 26,000 crore) in total value of goods sold, or gross merchandise value last month. 
 
<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Flipkart+">Flipkart </a>officials refused to comment on the matter. Snapdeal’s challenge is a testament of the growing competition in the Indian eCommerce market. The record capital fusion that Internet companies in the country have received this year is further taking the competition to new heights. 
 
While India's top <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=eCommerce+">eCommerce </a>firms have been locked in an attritional battle for pole position the past three years, this is the first time when one of the big guns has openly challenged its rival. 
 
Flipkart, in June adjusted its gross merchandise value (GMV) target to $10-12 billion in 9 months to a year, a slight bump up from its earlier forecast of $8 billion for the year to March 2016. It recently closed a funding round of $700 million from existing investors — New York-based hedge fund Tiger Global and Steadview Capital. 
 
Amazon, on the other hand has announced its plans to invest $5 billion in India and to turn the country into its biggest market outside the US. 
 
"It took us two-and-a-half years to reach GMV of $1 billion, a milestone that we reached on July 31 last year. This month we've crossed $4 billion. It took us only a year to go from $1 billion to $4 billion. We hit $3 billion about three-odd months back. The acceleration has been very significant," said Bahl, 32, asserting that in about six months Snapdeal will be "decisively ahead" of Flipkart in terms of GMV. 
 
The entry of two strategic investors is expected to give a massive boost to Snapdeal in its bid to emerge as the country's largest ecommerce firm, given that both Foxconn and Alibaba are seen as long-term investors, unlike private equity and hedge funds that have shorter redemption windows. 
 
As per a recent report by Morgan Stanley, Flipkart at present commands 44% market share of India's ecommerce market, followed by Snapdeal at 32%. Amazon's India unit accounts for 15% of the online retail pie. 
 
In a separate report, Goldman Sachs estimated that India's online retail industry would grow at 47% compounded annual growth rate to $47 billion over the next five years. 
 
Bahl declined to give a projection of Snapdeal's total sales for this fiscal year, but credited the company's recent $400-million acquisition of payments platform FreeCharge and its undisclosed investment in logistics venture GoJavas as being prime drivers of growth. Snapdeal's investments have been part of its ambitious strategy to build a comprehensive ecommerce ecosystem offering everything from products to financial services and having the infrastructure to meet demand — crucial especially as the festive season kicks off, providing a major battleground for online retailers. "This Diwali our plans are mega," said Bahl.

It’s been just 10 days that <keyword id="541988" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="SnapDeal">Snapdeal</keyword> redesigned its website, but looks like there is more on the mind of the SoftBank-backed company, as it looks forward to adding new features and further improving the user experience. 
 
As per reports, these new features would include product selfies, enhanced order-tracking and a new 'my order' page. 
 
"The product has been redesigned to improve the overall information architecture," Anand Chandrasekaran, chief product officer, told ET. 
 
Talking of 'product selfie', it allows users to post a selfie with the product they bought from the website. "We have had a phenomenal response to it so far as customers get to see actual people using the product," Chandrasekaran said. 
 
In the past six-seven months, Snapdeal has made extensive use of technology to improve efficiency and customer experience. As per the company claims, delivery times have been brought down by 70-75% in the past year because of investments done in the logistics company GoJavas. Also, refunds from the company are now based on the Immediate Payment Service (IMPS). 
 
"Since September 2015, 93% of refunds are being done within 30 minutes. It has been integrated with the wallet on the back-end to make the whole experience seamless for the customer," Chandrasekharan said. 
 
In addition to this, we have also seen smaller launches like SnapLite, which enables users with slow network connections to access a lighter version of the website, and Snapsearch, which allows users to upload pictures and find similar products on the website.

In India’s thriving <keyword id="2489789" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="ecommerce-market">eCommerce market</keyword>, <keyword id="18635" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Amazon">Amazon</keyword> is one player which is not leaving any stone unturned to make Indian consumers happy. Now the leading eCommerce player is planning to set up a logistics company in <a href="http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/topic/India" target="_blank">India</a> to deliver products directly to consumers. 
 
As per an Economic Time Report, <a href="http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/topic/Amazon-Transportation-Services-Private-Limited" target="_blank">Amazon Transportation Services Private Limited</a>, a subsidiary of US-based Amazon, will ship goods from sellers who transact on the company's online marketplace in India. Its rivals <keyword id="6354742" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Flipkart">Flipkart</keyword> and <keyword id="541988" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="SnapDeal">Snapdeal</keyword> already have such services on offer. While Flipkart had struck a deal with <keyword id="2057197" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="eKart">eKart</keyword>, Snapdeal recently bought a stake in delivery firm Gojavas. 
 
Samuel Augustine Thomas, director of transportation for Amazon in India, told the financial daily that the logistics arm has been set up to aid in last-mile delivery as products can be shipped faster. 
 
At present, Amazon ships products to some 19,000 pin codes across the country. It will continue to do so, or maybe add more areas in it delivery list, with ATSL that will be one of the logistics partners for Amazon's Indian marketplace. 
 
Amazon surely seems to have made a right move as the "lastmile delivery" is a crucial front in the war for leadership in India's ecommerce industry, which is pegged at $43 billion (Rs 2.5 lakh crore) by 2018. 
 
Ankur Bisen, senior VP at retail consulting firm <a href="http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/topic/Technopak" target="_blank">Technopak</a>, also feels the same. He told ET, "All large marketplaces have opened their own last-mile logistics arms in India as the capability to deliver goods next day doesn't exist in India's logistics sector…It makes sense to hive off (logistics divisions) or operate as separate arms as they may achieve a scale and reach their full potential by servicing other ecommerce companies.".

As the festive season kicks off on Monday with big sales promotions, firms which provide last-mile services to ecommerce sites are encouraging their employees to go the extra mile. On offer are silver coins, cash, gift vouchers, gadgets, refurbished homes and the chance to upgrade skills to take on higher-level roles.
 

	These firms include Ola, delivery agencies such as Gojavas and Roadrunnr, and staffing firms such as Quess Corp and TeamLease.
 

	Wiser after the surge in business last year took them by surprise, companies want to make sure they'll be able to handle the extra load this time around.
 

	And a crucial aspect of that is motivating those at the end of the chain. "Compared to last year, when some of these sales saw a great deal of chaos, this time the level of preparedness on the part of the companies is much better," Rituparna Chakraborty, cofounder and senior vice-president, Team-Lease Services, a recruitment agency, told ET. "This in turn will also lead to people performing better and earning more." For example, a delivery person in Bengaluru earning a monthly salary of Rs 12,000 can boost that by 50-60% through incentives, Chakraborty said.
 

	Ola said incentives will help ensure that clients can get cabs when they want. "These initiatives motivate drivers to be more available on the platform during the festive season and will help us bridge the demand-supply gap," said Anand Subramanian, senior director, marketing communications.
 Hyperlocal delivery company Roadrunnr's best staff will get silver coins daily. Weekly incentives include kitchenware and electronic gadgets. The company's clients include <keyword id="541988" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="SnapDeal">Snapdeal</keyword> and Myntra. The top 10-15 Runnrs, as they are called, will also be trained in soft skills, spoken English and computers to help them in career advancement, said Aneek Mukherjee, director, Roadrunnr. <keyword id="103483" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Raj-Kumar">Raj Kumar</keyword>, 22, hopes he can be one of the winners at Roadrunnr. During the festive season, the number of orders can double to 30 on a weekday compared with 14-15 on regular days and about 20 on the weekend, he said. One of the top performers at his branch in Bengaluru, he said, "These initiatives make all the extra trips worth it." While India's online retail market is expected to grow to around $50 billion by 2020 from $4 billion at the end of 2014, according to industry estimates, competition among the top ecommerce sites such as <keyword id="6354742" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Flipkart">Flipkart</keyword>, Amazon and Snapdeal will be at full pitch. And with online sellers focusing more on margins rather than discounts, companies will need to work harder on service. 

	They also need to make sure rivals don't poach their people. "Retention is the biggest challenge since the environment is tight. Everyone from old players to the new is fighting for a share," said Guruprasad Srinivasan, Quess Corp's CEO for people and services. The company provides delivery agents for the top ecommerce companies — staffing has surged to 20,000 from 3,500 in a year. Srinivasan said most ecommerce companies are paying bonuses and incentives this time round. Riders are also crucial for companies such as Faasos, which delivers restaurant orders placed on its website.
