New Delhi, Mar 19 () The National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) has dismissed the claims of grandchildren of late Maharani Gayatri Devi of Jaipur over the ownership of the iconic Jai Mahal hotel. The appellate tribunal has set aside the previous orders of the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT), which had allowed Maharaja Dev Raj and Rajkumari Lalitya Kumar majority stake in the company Jai Mahal Hotels Pvt Ltd, which owns the majestic property. A two-member NCLAT bench observed that Rajkumar Dev Raj and Rajkumari Lalitya "can not claim title on the basis of succession certificate dated February 19, 2009". "The alleged acts of oppression complained of by 1st and 2nd respondents (Rajkumar Dev Raj and Rajkumari Lalitya) occurred around 2001. Maharani Gayatri Devi on the death of Maharaj Jagat Singh (her son) on February 5, 1997 became his sole legatee by virtue of will dated June 23, 1996," NCLAT said in an order dated March 12. "Therefore, Rajkumar Dev Raj and Rajkumari Lalitya cannot claim inheritance on original 5,050 shares to be legal heirs of Late Maharaj Jagat Singh on his death (February 5, 1997)," it said. The NCLAT also said that "alleged acts of oppression complained of by 1st and 2nd respondents occurred around 2001" and they became shareholders of Jai Mahal Hotels on November 14, 2008 and February 19, 2009. "The Tribunal (NCLT) failed to consider the abovesaid aspects and wrongly held that Rajkumar Dev Raj and Rajkumari Lalitya inherited the shares of Late Maharaj Jagat Singh on February 5, 1997 on the death of Maharaj Jagat Singh," it said while setting aside the previous order. NCLAT further said that Maharani Gayatri Devi, who was at all material times including in 2001, was the sole legatee of Late Maharaja Jagat Singh, had through a letter on April 10, 2001 left it open to Jai Mahal Hotel to offer the shares to other existing shareholders and declined to subscribe to any shares. "In view of the aforesaid finding the impugned judgement dated August 1, 2018 passed by the Tribunal cannot be upheld. It is accordingly set aside," said NCLAT. Earlier on August 1, 2018 NCLT had restored the ownership of Jai Mahal hotel in favour of grandchildren of late Maharani Gayatri Devi. Allowing the petition of Gayatrai Devi's grandchildren, NCLT had set aside the resolution of the extraordinary general meeting of the company held in March 1999 and March 2001 regarding appointments on board and dilution of their stake. It had restored the "position ante immediately upon death of Maharaja Jai Singh " and set aside the resolution passed in the board meeting regarding allotment of shares. NCLT had restored their original position of the shareholding as well as the board of directors, and thereby making the grandchildren of Maharani Gayatri Devi as the owners of the Jai Mahal hotel in Jaipur. The grandchildren had earlier won the battle for transmission of their father's shares in their names. Built in 1745, the Jai Mahal Palace is now operated as a hotel by Taj group of Hotels. But when ad film-maker <keyword id="1612592" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Vinil-Mathew">Vinil Mathew</keyword>’s directorial debut <keyword id="1520199" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Hasee-Toh-Phasee">Hasee Toh Phasee</keyword> hit the screen a week before <keyword id="4167782" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="V-day">V-Day</keyword> (February 7), it turned out to be a better love feast than the run-of-the-mill romances. Much of the credit goes to the lead duo – <keyword id="562349" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Parineeti-Chopra">Parineeti Chopra</keyword> and <keyword id="1320874" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sidharth-Malhotra">Sidharth Malhotra</keyword> – and the <keyword id="303" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Director">director</keyword>, of course, who tweaked all the usual Bollywood masala into an earthy and sharp reality without stripping the flick of its dream elements. And going by the <keyword id="2034852" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Box-office-numbers">box office numbers</keyword>, we dare say that the audience loves those experiments garbed in the feel-good raiment. In other words, this Parineeti-Sidharth starrer has different offerings at different levels – whether you take it as an arty-commercial experiment or just another love story, with some nuances that can push you out of your comfort zone. 
 So how has the film fared at the box office so far? The Rs 25 crore <keyword id="1636016" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="rom-com">rom-com</keyword>, jointly produced by <keyword id="3778" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Karan-Johar">Karan Johar</keyword>’s <keyword id="62161" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Dharma-Productions">Dharma Productions</keyword> and <keyword id="7929" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Anurag-Kashyap">Anurag Kashyap</keyword>’s <keyword id="1352720" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Phantom-Productions">Phantom Productions</keyword>, hit about 2,000 screens across the country and grossed around Rs 17-18 crore at home during the first weekend, according to industry estimates. <keyword id="1861689" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="overseas-collection">Overseas collection</keyword>s stood at a little over $1 million. The <keyword id="2014761" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Occupancy-rate">occupancy rate</keyword> was 50-80% during the opening weekend and stayed at 50% on the crucial Day 4 (February 10) in the domestic market, bringing in around Rs 6 crore. Overseas collection on the 4th day was around Rs 1.5 crore. However, the movie is expected to do much better at the box office during the <keyword id="2054858" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="V-Day-week">V-Day week</keyword>. 
 
Karan Johar is also happy with the way things are going. “Thank you for the immense love and appreciation for Hasee Toh Phasee, a film I am extremely proud of,” he tweeted on Sunday. 
 
The rom-com is expected to ride on critical acclaim and we feel that is justified to some extent. For one, director Vinil Mathew (best known for his Cadbury: Kuch meetha ho jaye commercials) knows how to tell a good story, blending reality with cinematic magic. And writer <keyword id="1989065" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Harshvardhan-Kulkarni">Harshvardhan Kulkarni</keyword> has aptly supported him. The film is essentially a quirky love story between <keyword id="19563" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="meeta">Meeta</keyword> (Parineeti) and Nikhil (Sidharth) – a modern-day take about life, love and relationships. Consequently, you see a runaway professional and a turbulent soul in Meeta, who has brains but takes drugs, steals money from her family and tries to whisk off her sister <keyword id="5405" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Karishma">Karishma</keyword>’s (<keyword id="16234" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Adah-Sharma">Adah Sharma</keyword>) fiancé who is also a long-time friend of Meeta. Sidharth, on the other hand, is a more staid character with his commitments firmly in place. The resulting story weaves the chemistry between the odd pair while <keyword id="6362839" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Manoj-Joshi">Manoj Joshi</keyword> does some good work as Meeta and Karishma’s father. 
 
But one still wonders why all the soul-searching and putting life into order need to happen immediately before a crucial marriage, à la Mere Brother Ki Dulhan? Only this time, we have a runaway bridegroom, instead of the bride walking away from the mandap as is the Bollywood wont. But Parineeti is the real star cast here – bright, gorgeous, self-willed and passionate – and wins hearts in spite of her over-the-top acting. Sidharth, too, is out on a self-quest and looks laudable. But it’s the cliché plot that mars the good efforts. There are nice elements, but they come in bits and pieces, and finally, Hasee Toh Phasee remains a commercial candyfloss. 
 
One just wonders what would have happened if Parineeti and Sidharth went through the same experiences post the marriage between Adah and Sidharth. But that might have been too much off the track for Bollywood and the Indian audience who did not receive the offbeat theme of Nishabd well. Let us see if Hasee Toh Phasee can join the 100 crore club. 
 
 
 
<keyword id="805778" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="100" keywordseo="Heartless">Heartless</keyword>: Commendable efforts lose steam, again Medical thrillers are pretty rare in Bollywood and we pinned our hopes on <keyword id="17186" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Shekhar-Suman">Shekhar Suman</keyword>’s directorial debut Heartless, starring his son <keyword id="20393" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Adhyayan">Adhyayan</keyword>, along with <keyword id="20398" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="deepti-naval">Deepti Naval</keyword>, <keyword id="6381489" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Om-puri">Om Puri</keyword> and newcomer <keyword id="1935232" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ariana-Ayam">Ariana Ayam</keyword> (she hails from New York). The movie also released on February 7 and hit about 800 screens all over the country. But unlike Hasee Toh Phasee, this one had a poor start in spite of a great storyline – essentially borrowed from the American crime/supernatural/conspiracy thriller <keyword id="106100" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="80" keywordseo="Awake">Awake</keyword>. Surprisingly, the box office numbers are not officially available yet but according to one estimate, Heartless has grossed a little over Rs 1 crore in the opening weekend. That is, indeed, shocking. 
 A close look at the movie, however, confirms our fear that it could be a box office flop. Rich boy <keyword id="138003" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Aditya-Singh">Aditya Singh</keyword> (<keyword id="6354939" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Adhyayan-Suman">Adhyayan Suman</keyword>), who needs a <keyword id="6397601" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="heart-transplant">heart transplant</keyword>, falls in love with fortune-hunter <keyword id="80068" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ria">Ria</keyword> (Ariana Ayam) and secretly marries her before the surgery. But once he is under the knife, all hell breaks loose. There is conspiracy going on to kill him with a <keyword id="2054863" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Poisoned-transplant">poisoned transplant</keyword>, so that the wife can pocket the insurance money. Adhyayan’s friend and <keyword id="6382875" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="surgeon">surgeon</keyword> <keyword id="2054864" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Dr-Sameer-Saxena">Dr Sameer Saxena</keyword> (Shekhar Suman) is also in cahoots. 
 During the surgery, the truth dawns upon the hero as he goes into <keyword id="2054865" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Anaesthesia-awareness">anaesthesia awareness</keyword>, a medical condition where the patient is conscious enough to understand everything, but cannot move. Finally, his mother <keyword id="489622" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Gayatri-Singh">Gayatri Singh</keyword> (Deepti Naval) commits suicide to make the transplant happen; Om Puri, as <keyword id="2054866" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Dr-Sanjay-Trehan">Dr Sanjay Trehan</keyword>, manages to save him and all the baddies are arrested at the end. There’s nothing wrong with the story except for the fact that medical thrill becomes hilarious comedy during the second half and Adhyayan still looks pretty stiff although the mother-son relation has been played out well. Maybe the BO numbers will pick up as soon as the audience gets used to the comical activities that take place in the OT. But can it still be touted as Adhyayan’s comeback movie? 
 
<keyword id="1977299" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Babloo-Happy-Hai">Babloo Happy Hai</keyword>, <keyword id="828628" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ya-Rab">Ya Rab</keyword> fail to make the cut The other two releases of the week also failed to make the cut at the box office in spite of some serious themes. Directed by <keyword id="475774" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Nila-Madhab-Panda">Nila Madhab Panda</keyword> (of Jalpari and I am Kalam fame), Babloo Happy Hai has a meaningful message about <keyword id="19472" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="aids">AIDS</keyword> and how people can still live a full life. But the movie has a <keyword id="110559" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Limited-release">limited release</keyword> and hit only about 350-plus screens. It has grossed a little over Rs 15 lakh on the opening day, according to TalkingMoviez.com. 
 
Hasnain Hyderabadwala-directed Ya Rab depicts the eternal conflict between <keyword id="70629" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="100" keywordseo="Humanity">humanity</keyword> and <keyword id="2054867" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Parochial-attitude">parochial attitude</keyword>, and how <keyword id="1013184" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="religious-fundamentalism">religious fundamentalism</keyword> can lead to <keyword id="6358165" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="terrorism">terrorism</keyword>. But once again, lack of promotion has failed to create buzz for this movie, co-produced by <keyword id="6370367" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Mahesh-Bhatt">Mahesh Bhatt</keyword>. Made on a budget of Rs 2.5 crore, the movie has been released in 300-plus theatres and the Friday collections stood in the range of Rs 20 lakh-plus. Overall, <keyword id="434916" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bollywood-box-office">Bollywood box office</keyword> hasn’t witnessed too many ripples even now but movie-goers are having a gala time, sampling different genres. That’s definitely a big plus and we are waiting for more.

The <keyword id="6354977" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="supreme-court" source="Orion">Supreme Court</keyword> on Monday sought reply from the Centre on a plea seeking social security benefits for <keyword id="7771650" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="gig-workers" source="Orion">gig workers</keyword> employed by online food delivery, taxi aggregators, courier applications such as <keyword id="6354720" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ola" source="Orion">Ola</keyword>, <keyword id="1042120" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="uber" source="Orion">Uber</keyword>, <keyword id="830092" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="zomato" source="Orion">Zomato</keyword>, <keyword id="6358977" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="swiggy" source="Orion">Swiggy</keyword>, etc. Senior advocates Indira Jaising and Gayatri Singh argued for the petitioner, The Indian Federation of app-based Transport Workers (IFAT). It was argued that at present these workers are not being provided the benefit of social security under any of the labour legislations-organised or unorganised. The counsel for petitioners argued that they are seeking a declaration that gig workers were entitled to protection as unorganised workers. After hearing arguments in the matter, a bench headed by Justice L. Nageswara Rao issued notice on the petition. Jaising submitted the petitioner seeks a declaration that the drivers or delivery workers are actually workmen in the classical sense of the word, and emphasised that worldwide for Uber they have been considered as workers. During the hearing, the top court cited the new legislation Social Security Code 2020 passed by Parliament last year has a chapter on the welfare of gig workers. The counsel submitted that the gig workers under existing law, would fall under the unorganised worker. The plea, filed through advocate Nupur Kumar, said "The Respondents' companies herein have been claiming that there exists no contract of employment between them and the petitioners and that their relationship with the petitioners are in the nature of partnership. If such a claim were to be accepted, this would be inconsistent with the purpose of social-welfare legislations..." The plea contended that the respondent companies, which own the apps, exercise complete supervision and control over the manner and method of the work with those who are allowed to register on the said apps. "Denial of the social security to the "gig workers" and the "platform workers" is an affront to the workers' right to life and right against forced labour that are secured by Articles 14, 21 and 23 of the Constitution of India", added the plea. Mumbai, Sep 13 (PTI) Production houses T-Series and Reliance Entertainment have come together to produce more than 10 films across various genres. The collaboration, that brings the production houses together with an investment of approximately Rs 1000cr, will produce big budget tentpole projects as well as mid-small budget "content rich films", a release said. According to a statement from the studios, the slate includes Hindi remakes of Tamil blockbusters, a biopic, an espionage thriller, a court room drama as well as a satire comedy, a romance drama and a film based on "true events." The upcoming movies will be produced over the course of next 24 to 36 months, with filmmakers -- Pushkar and Gayatri, Vikramjit Singh, Mangesh Hadawale, Srijit Mukherji and Sankalp Reddy -- on board to direct. Bhushan Kumar's T-Series and Reliance Entertainment have worked together on the music marketing front for more than 100 films. Kumar, Chairman and Managing Director, T-Series, said the collaboration between the two studios has happened at the perfect time. "After working on music marketing together, this collaboration has happened on the right time and this will just strengthen our ties. Shibasish and I hope to give our Hindi film audiences new and unconventional films," he said. Shibasish Sarkar, Group CEO, Reliance Entertainment, said he is looking forward to a fruitful partnership with T-Series. "This partnership with Bhushan will surely mark the beginning of a great feat in Indian film industry as we move on to offer a bouquet of path-breaking and momentous films to our audience," Sarkar said. Mumbai, Apr 24 () The BombayHigh Court has said itis imperative that the Union government and the authorities inMaharashtra find an "effective solution" to ensure 'non-COVID-19' patients are not denied medical treatment at a time whenthe focus is on fighting the coronavirus outbreak.Justice K R Sriram made the observation on Thursdaywhile hearing three different petitions highlighting theplight of people suffering from several chronic or seriousailments, who the pleas said, are being turned away fromclinics and hospitals.The petitions also highlight issues such as lack ofadequate facilities and medical infrastructure in state,municipal-run, and private hospitals in current times.The judge said the authorities must take a seriousnote of the issues and directed the Maharashtra government andthe Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to file a replyto the pleas by April 29.Additional Solicitor General Anil Singh, the counselfor the Centre, told the HC the Supreme court, too, washearing a similar plea where the Union government would listnecessary steps being taken.Therefore, the Union government's reply was notrequired to be filed before the HC, Anil Singh said."I would expect the concerned to take these petitionsvery seriously and come (up) with an effective solution intheir affidavits."Other respondents may also give their suggestions tothe Corporation/State Government/Central Government," JusticeSriram said.The pleas, filed by two advocates and a city activist,said that as per news reports and their own findings, severalnon-COVID patients were being denied admission ortreatment asmedical staff feared the spread of coronavirus at theirhospitals or clinics, or due to lack of doctors, technicians,medical staff, hospital beds, protective kits.The petitioners cited several such instances beforethe court during the hearing.Advocate Gayatri Singh, the counsel for one of thepetitioners, told the court that often when patients wereturned away, it was not because there are not enough doctorsor, medical staff.But such staff and doctors were not provided withprotective gears and safety kits, among other things, tomitigate the risk of spread of coronavirus, Gayatri Singhsaid.The petitioners urged the HC to issue appropriatedirections to ensurehospitals did not refuse admission ofpatients sufferingfrom ailments other than COVID-19.One of the petitioners, advocate Mutahhar Khan, alsourged the court to issue interim directions to the authoritiesto take adequate steps to provide ambulances to ferry needypatients from their homes to hospitals, dialysis centres.Khan suggested that if required, the authorities couldconvert state-run buses or private mini buses into temporaryambulances for the purpose.The court said the petitioners could give theirsuggestions to the authorities to help them come up withappropriate measures to provide adequate medical assistance toall patients."In my view, this is an issue with which both thestate and central government should be concerned with andtherefore, petitioners may address their communications withsuggestions, if any, to the Health Secretary of the StateGovernment at Mantralaya and to the Ministry of Health andFamily Welfare in the Central Government," Justice Sriramsaid.BMC counsel Anil Sakhre told the court that the civicbody realised this was an "important issue" and that it wouldfile an appropriate reply. Mumbai, Apr 30 () The Bombay High Court on Thursdaydirected the Maharashtra government and the BrihanmumbaiMunicipal Corporation (BMC) to make public details of thearrangements made to ensure medical treatment for non-COVID-19patients.Justice B Colabawalla issued the direction after BMCcounsel Anil Sakhre told the high court that the civic bodyhad directed all private hospitals, clinics, dispensaries toremain open and provide treatment to non-COVID-19 patients.The court was hearing a bunch of petitions filed by alawyer and social activists highlighting the plight of peoplesuffering from several chronic or serious ailments beingturned away from clinics and hospitals, and issues such aslack of adequate facilities and medical infrastructure in thestate, municipal-run, and private hospitals in current times.Senior advocate Gayatri Singh, counsel for one of thepetitioners, told the high court that while the BMC had issuedthe above directions, it was imperative that the authoritiesensured implementation on the ground considering that thereexisted a shortage of PPE kits, health staff, and medicalinfrastructure.She pointed out that the state and municipalauthorities did not have a detailed action plan for non-COVID-19 patients and several people had died of lack oftreatment already.She added that the authorities must also come up witha helpline for non-coronavirus patients to assist them withambulance, mobile medical aid, list of hospitals and clinicsproviding treatment.The petitioners also suggested that the authoritiescould make arrangements for mobile clinics, and paramedicalservices at different locations to help non COVID patients whodid not necessarily require hospitalisation but were in needof preliminary check-ups, dialysis, or other such aid.At this, Justice Colabawalla said that the BMC and thestate had to ensure implementation of their directions toprovide medical aid to non-COVID-19 patients.He said that the authorities must make public allinformation on the hospitals and clinics that will remain openfor other patients, and those that are meant exclusively forCOVID-19 patients.He directed Sakhre and the state's counsel, advocatePoornima Kantharia to file their respective affidavits withintwo weeks, advocate Singh said. While BJP denied tickets to 12 of its 48 sitting legislators including two Ministers, the Congress retained its sitting legislators while the INLD saw its prominent faces switching over to the BJP, the Congress and the JJP. In the 2014 assembly polls, the BJP for the first time came to power in Haryana on its own winning 47 seats. It won the Jind bypolls earlier this year, taking its total strength in the state assembly to 48. The INLD had 19 MLAs while the Congress has 17 legislators.
