What hasn’t changed though is the gender pay gap. The second story is at the other end of the spectrum of emotion, which is a light and fun film about a younger sister giving joyful courage to her elder one through a WhatsApp video call, when the latter feels vulnerable and hesitant to give her a haircut at home. WhatsApp rolls out first-ever global brand campaign in India

New Delhi, Jul 4 () WhatsApp on Saturday said it is launching its 'It's Between You' brand campaign in the country showcasing stories about how Indians are using the Facebook-owned platform to communicate in a secure manner. WhatsApp collaborated with Bollywood director Gauri Shinde along with BBDO India to create two 60-second ads that highlight how its features like texts, video calls or even a voice message (which is end-to-end encrypted) help replicate in-person conversations, it said in a statement. With over 400 million users, India is among the biggest markets for WhatsApp. "The campaign narrates real stories about how Indians communicate daily on WhatsApp with their closest relationships ...When privacy is deeply felt, relationships feel more intimate and real... "WhatsApp continues to serve as a crucial lifeline for people relying on the platform to intimately communicate with their friends and family while separated across long distances," Facebook India's Director - Marketing Avinash Pant told . One of the ads features an elderly woman and her caregiver, while the second one is about two sisters. WhatsApp had run a similar campaign in Brazil earlier this year. Pant said the campaign in India will run for 10 weeks across India on a number of national and regional television channels and digital platforms. "Throughout this year, the campaign will see multiple creative executions land in high profile cultural moments across the year from festivals to the cricket IPL. Over the course of the campaign, these films will be available in English and seven regional languages that include Hindi, Bengali, Assamese, Oriya, Gujarati, Marathi and Kannada," he added. Pant said shooting these films remotely was a "new and a challenging experience" for everyone involved. The campaign was shot in the early days of lockdown, and the production happened remotely following utmost standards of safety and precaution, he added. "This meant casting had to be done keeping in mind the actors and the cinematographers who lived together, so no one from outside would enter the premises. The rest of the family members became hair, make-up and costume assistants...For the first time we heard, 'Action, Mumma' instead of just 'Action'," Pant said. He added that the client's agency and the director supervised the shoot through a WhatsApp video call, just as they conducted the pre-production meetings (PPM) and presentations. Online streaming service <keyword id="128682" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Netflix">Netflix</keyword> is trying to do everything in order to stay ahead in the competition. Add to that a strong competition like <keyword id="18635" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Amazon">Amazon</keyword> Prime video that was launched in India just yesterday and is expected to come with a slew of local content for the Indian consumer. In order to add more local content on its Internet TV network, Netflix has now roped in India’s biggest film star, <keyword id="6357753" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="shahrukh-khan">Shahrukh Khan</keyword>. In a press statement, Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos said, “Shah Rukh Khan is the most sought-after actor in the Indian film industry, and has played a huge role in bringing Indian cinema to the world stage. His monicker “King Khan” speaks to his status as a cultural icon and to the incredible popularity of his films among audiences worldwide”. 
 Netflix and <keyword id="60362" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="red-chillies">Red Chillies</keyword> <keyword id="4578" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="entertainment">Entertainment</keyword> (RCE), the film production house headed by Khan, will also give Netflix members both in India and around the world exclusive subscription video-on-demand access to RCE films as well as new films that will hit Indian theaters within the next three. “Red Chillies is surging ahead in global entertainment and for the first time, our great stories are going global on Netflix all at once and crossing all geographical barriers,waiting to be discovered over the world. No more waiting for our fans wherever they are.” said Shah Rukh Khan in a statement. 
 
The first title that will come on Netflix is Dear Zindagi which was released theatrically on 25 November. The highly-anticipated film directed by Gauri Shinde stars Shah Rukh Khan and Alia Bhatt. Among other Red Chillies titles available on Netflix will be box office hits including Happy New Year, Dilwale and Om Shanti Om.

As per some reports, the movie is titled The Ring, and would feature Khan as Harinder Singh Nehra, a Punjabi tour guide who will fall in love with one of his Gujarati tourists, played by Sharma. While most of the movie would be shot in Europe, some parts of it would also be shot in Punjab, the state where Khan’s character belongs to. 
 
Shah Rukh, who is known to have a hard time trying to kick the butt, couldn’t stop himself from puffing one up during the shooting.

The groom is moved by the girl and scoops her up, filling his bride with emotion.
What's special about the ad is that a sharp viewer can tell the marriage is the second one for both the bride and groom. Historically, divorced or widowed men are outcasts in Indian culture, making the ad a sharp break from tradition. Indian viewers are also talking about the bride's relatively dark complexion, a turn away from <a href="http://www.theguardian.com/world/shortcuts/2013/aug/14/indias-dark-obsession-fair-skin" title="light">the country's mainstream obsession with light-skinned lead actresses</a>.

Traditional-minded Indians might otherwise have assumed that the woman was marrying the divorced or widowed man out of pity.
The creative team also wanted the ceremony to appear modest, because "We didn't want it to look like we were trying to make a point."
But they were, and they did.

Mumbai voted and so did Delhi. Bangalore did it, too! And Kolkata was not left behind either. While the whole country seems reluctant to comment on whether there is a genuine Narendra Modi wave this time around or whether it is the handiwork of the media, no one can possibly deny a couple of poll trends which have come up this time. 
 To start with, the number of first-time voters has been the highest this time. The other trend, apparently new in the Indian context, is the emergence of the ‘<keyword id="1725157" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Selfie">selfie</keyword> brigade’ as voters pose with index-finger-inked selfies on their respective social networking sites. 
 In a narcissistic world, anything that glorifies the self is welcomed with open arms. Err… did we say arms? We mean the hands that take the pictures, of course. Social networking sites seem to thrive on the selfie culture, helping people glorify the self, even if it means throwing privacy and caution to the wind. In that sense, being ‘social’ is more about self-promotion, rather than networking with people and meeting them. <keyword id="6354576" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Facebook">Facebook</keyword>, <keyword id="819905" type="COMPANY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Instagram">Instagram</keyword> and Twitter are the new Page 3. 
 
When you say that all the world’s a stage, the elections must be the biggest platform to stage a great performance. So what other option was left for the 23.16 million young, peppy, cyber-savvy Gen Y, hitting the polling booths to exercise their franchise? It had to be a flood of inked selfies, expressly showing their joy and pride that come with casting the ballot. 
 
Giving into this trend were celebrities and politicians who would not lose a chance to show that they did fulfil their responsibility. Rajinikath’s fans posted a picture of the thalaiva voting; Shah Rukh posed with his inky finger outside the booth, and so did Aamir and his wife Kiran. Sachin Tendulkar also surrendered to this selfie craze. Director-actor <keyword id="5015" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Farhan-Akhtar">Farhan Akhtar</keyword> posted his selfie with the picture taken at his house; Rahul Bose took his selfie with a poker face; <keyword id="8145" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Preity-zinta">Preity Zinta</keyword> went for a selfie pose for a snapshot while Raveena Tandon looked beautiful, shooting her inky index finger inside her car. 
 
But there were even more luminaries who followed the trend. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan voted without giving it a miss. Singer Kailash Kher turned to his camera soon after voting and showed the world he had performed his duty as an Indian citizen. Sonam Kapoor looked all radiant while posing with that inky finger right in front of her. And an almost forgotten Dino Morea posted his selfie soon after voting was done. English Vinglish director Gauri Shinde didn’t miss posing before her own camera after she voted. In a nutshell, the selfie frenzy took over during the polls and caught hold of everyone, almost everywhere. 
 
The ones who didn’t post their selfies were probably the most ‘tech-unabled’ people. The incessant flow of selfies were fast and furious, came in all shapes and sizes, and featured varied expressions – right from brilliant, billion-dollar smiles to haggard to merry ones. But the most disappointed lot of this season were those who went to the booth armed with their cell phones (naturally 3G-enabled ones, which would enable them to post a picture even before the ink on their fingers dried), only to find that their names were missing from the voters’ list. Their disappointment was as huge as Viswanathan Anand’s when he lost the World Championship to young Magnus Carlson. What a pity. And what a selfie-opportunity missed for life (or at least for the next five years). 
 
Just as the indelible ink has made its mark throughout the democratic process, pinpointing the serious nature of our political responsibilities, people posting selfies after voting also tells us another story – a different story altogether. It amply shows that upholding the democratic system in India has now become a heady combination of duty and exhibitionism. 
 
Now, we call that finger-lookin’ good!
