In terms of sector specific basis, the top gainers were the BSE banking, pharma, energy and realty indices. At 12.20 p.m., the S&amp;P BSE Sensex traded at 52,417.06 points, higher by 141.49 points, or 0.27 per cent, from its previous close. On the other hand, the Nifty50 of the National Stock Exchange traded at 15,796.40, up by 56.30 points, or 0.36 per cent, from its previous close. Most experts are anticipating a 25 basis point <keyword id="19920203" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="rate-cut" source="keywords">rate cut</keyword>, while some suggest a sharper, 50 basis point rate cut might also be possible. According to the <keyword id="19950992" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="CME-FedWatch" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="CME FedWatch" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="CME FedWatch">CME FedWatch</keyword> tool, there is an 85% probability of a 25 basis point rate cut in September. However, the firmer-than-expected core inflation reading will perhaps make it more difficult for Fed chairman <keyword id="20058769" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jerome-Powell" source="keywords">Jerome Powell</keyword> to justify a 50 basis point cut in September. However, as Gaurav Garg from Lemonn, a trading and investing platform explains, “a bold 50-basis-points (bps) rate cut could ignite optimism leading to weaker dollar and further inflows into emerging markets like India, while a cautious 25 bps move may trigger disappointment, with markets currently pricing increasing odds for a bigger cut”. Historically, a rate cut fuels optimism in the domestic markets, as it reduces corporate borrowing costs and increases consumer spending power. Lower interest rates also implies cheaper borrowing, which is advantageous for homeowners looking for lower mortgage rates. “The reduction in borrowing costs may promote demand in the home market as well as encourage refinancing activity”, says Swapnil Aggarwal, Director, VSRK Capital “However, the market’s reaction will depend on the motivations behind the Fed’s decision. If the rate cut is in response to concerns about a slowing economy or rising unemployment, the positive market effect could be muted. But if the Fed is cutting rates due to low inflation and a stable growth outlook, markets may rally in response to the more favorable borrowing environment”, Agarwal continued. After this, the Fed would convene between November 5-7. Two key employment reports, which are due before the Fed announces its November outcome, are likely to impact this. However, as experts see it, there is a slight leaning towards a 50 basis point rate cut in November, with the probability currently at 52.4%, as per CME FedWatch For December, the likelihood of another 50 basis point rate cut increases significantly, with the probability standing at 80.4%. “Given the higher probability, if November sees only a 25 basis point cut, it is likely that a 50 basis point cut will follow in December”, says Alex Volkov, a market analyst at VT Markets.

Besides, inflationary concerns due to high transportation fuel prices dented sentiments. In contrast, the two key indices -- S&amp;P BSE <keyword id="6484188" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sensex" source="Orion">Sensex</keyword> and NSE Nifty50 -- had a gap-up opening. The 30-scrip sensitive index opened at 61,557.94 points from its previous close of 61,259.96 points. Besides, the NSE Nifty50 opened at 18,382.70 points from its previous close of 18,266.60 points. However, soon afterwards both the indices ceded much of their gains and traded flat. At 12.30 p.m., the 30-scrip sensitive index traded at 60,745.94 points, down 514.02 points or 0.84 per cent. Similarly, the NSE Nifty50 traded lower. It fell to 18,136.75, down 129.85 points or 0.71 per cent. Among sectors, consumer durables and IT fell the most whereas oil and gas' stocks rose. "Volumes on the NSE are a bit subdued while the advance decline ratio has improved compared to the past two days and is currently even," said Deepak Jasani, Head of Retail Research, HDFC Securities. Equity market fall on inflation concerns, global cues; RIL, Infosys, TCS down 2%

Mumbai, India's equity indices continued on their northward trajectory during the mid-afternoon trade session on Thursday. Accordingly, buying <keyword id="90082" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="momentum">momentum</keyword> was triggered after the market opened on a flat note due to <keyword id="47904" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="profit-booking">profit booking</keyword>. Amongst sectoral indices, <keyword id="6369970" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="psu-banks">PSU Banks</keyword>, Metal, FMCG and Auto indices were the major gainers. Market Breadth also remained strongly in favour of advancing counters for fourth consecutive session. Consequently, <keyword id="6484188" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="sensex">Sensex</keyword> traded at 50,557.02, higher by 301.27 points or 0.60 per cent from its previous close of 50,255.75. "Nifty index opened flattish and some profit booking decline could be seen in the initial hour. But the bulls took the intraday dip as a buying opportunity and pulled the index above 14850 levels," said Jay Purohit, Technical &amp; Derivatives Analyst, MOFSL. "Bank Nifty opened gap down and consolidated in a range in the initial hour of trades. But traders continued their buying momentum of the last three sessions and as a result, BankNifty registered a new all-time high of 35062 levels." Sensex ends above 50,600-mark for the first time, Nifty nears 15,000 — Banking and auto stocks steer markets

Altogether, the company delivered 83% returns in two trading sessions, meaning investors who held onto the stock till September 15 have made ₹12,288 profit in just two days. Shares of the Gujarat-based company, which debuted at ₹910 per share -- 50% above its issue price of ₹610 -- crossed the ₹1000-mark on the second day of listing. The market capitalisation of the company stood at ₹4,086 crore as on September 15. Most analysts had expected a strong debut for the initial public offering (IPO) betting on the growth prospects in the speciality chemical industry. Recently listed specialty chemical IPOs -- Clean Science and Technology and Tatva Chintan Pharma received a good response while Chemplast Sanmar got a dull one. On September 15, shares of Ami Organics were 20% higher at ₹1,122 per share. So, should investors hold onto the stocks or sell and book profits? Most analysts are suggesting to stay for a long term in the stock. Analysts at Motilal Oswal Securities <a href="https://www.business-standard.com/article/markets/ami-organics-surges-20-after-strong-debut-up-84-against-issue-price-121091500326_1.html">reportedly </a>said that, “We like Ami Organics given its wide product portfolio in pharma intermediates (PIs), diversification efforts into other specialty chemical space, strong clients’ relation across geographies and robust financials. It is well placed to tap opportunity in the fast growing specialty chemical market by leveraging its strong R&amp;D and expanding product portfolio.” Prashanth Tapse, vice president of research at Mehta Equities <a href="https://www.moneycontrol.com/news/business/markets/ami-organics-share-crosses-rs-1000-mark-spikes-84-amid-strong-buying-demand-in-2-days-7469031.html">reportedly</a> advised investors to hold on to the stock considering long term play. “Being in [a] high-growth high-margin therapeutic segment and promising outlook in light of the “China Plus One” strategy, Ami Organics is well placed to tap the sectoral growth with low competition and high entry barriers due to complex business nature,” said Tapse. China Plus One is the business strategy to avoid investing only in China and diversify business into other countries. Gaurav Garg, head of research at CapitalVia Global Research also reportedly advised to hold the stock for a long term. "The company has been consistently growing revenue from operations and net profit after tax from FY19 to FY21 and around 50% of revenue comes from exports," he reasoned. The strong traction in the pharma active pharmaceuticals ingredients (API) business and focus on research &amp; development (R&amp;D) and launching on new molecules will drive Ami Organics’ growth going forward, said Arijit Malakar, head of research (Retail) at Ashika Stock Broking. Gaurav Garg, Head of Research at CapitalVia Global Research said: "Global signals today are extremely negative against the backdrop of a massive jump in 10-year bond yields in the US. We can see a downtrend and it will be negative for the market." "Equity markets opened gap down following spike in global bond yields and extended its weakness further as the session progressed. Panic in global bond markets led to sharp rise in yields which spooked investors amid fears of interest rate cycle reversal," said Hemang Jani, Head of Equity Strategy, Broking &amp; Distribution, <keyword id="248720" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Motilal-Oswal-Financial">Motilal Oswal Financial</keyword> Servcies. He said that investors have thus turned to pharma stocks amidst this market crash which is down just 0.4 per cent. "This sector has been in consolidation mode so far 2021YTD as it witnessed profit booking post sharp rally in CY20. It has also got boost from second PLI scheme being approved for the sector. The market correction might continue for some time till inflation fears ease down," Jani added. Around 3.22 p.m., Sensex was trading at 48,950.73, lower by 2,088.58 points or 4.09 per cent from its previous close of 51,039.31. It has touched an intra-day low of 48,950.05 points. Sensex registers worst trading day since May 2020 — ends nearly 2000 points lower

Mumbai, The Indian equity market rose to new record high during the mid-afternoon trade session on Thursday as the NSE Nifty50 crossed the 14,000 mark for the first time ever. The index touched a record high of 14,024.85 <keyword id="56693" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Points">points</keyword> amid a largely subdued trade. BSE <keyword id="6484188" type="DEFINITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="sensex">Sensex</keyword> also hit a fresh high of 47,896.97 points. As per analysts, FIIs continued their buying streak and cumulatively bought more than Rs 47,000 crore worth of equities in December. The continuous buying, barring one session has supported the index at <keyword id="10119006" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="higher-zones">higher zones</keyword>, they said. Among sectors, marginal losses were witnessed in the IT, Banking, FMCG and Metal indices. Chandigarh, Jun 14 () Roads and markets in most parts of Punjab wore a deserted look on Sunday with the state government imposing stricter lockdown restrictions on weekends. Police personnel were deployed in adequate numbers across the state for implementing the lockdown strictly, officials said. Inter-district movement was barred except for people with e-passes, they said, adding that no pass was required for such travel in case of a medical emergency. All shops dealing with non-essential items stayed shut in the state, though chemist shops and departmental stores remained open. In Ludhiana, there was no rush of people at Chaura bazaar, which is one of the busiest markets. "E-pass is a must if anybody is on the road," a policeman in Ludhiana said. Hoshiarpur Senior Superintendent of Police Gaurav Garg said police were strictly implementing the lockdown restrictions. Police were patrolling throughout the district to ensure people stay indoors, the SSP said. There was a drastic decline in the footfall of devotees at the Golden Temple in the morning on the occasion of 'Sangrand' (beginning of new month). In Mohali, policemen were checking vehicles coming from Chandigarh and other parts. The Punjab government on Thursday had ordered stricter lockdown on the weekends and public holidays. The decision to tighten the curbs on weekends and holidays was taken amid apprehensions of COVID-19 reaching the community spread stage in Punjab and projections indicating that the peak in the state was still two months away. As per fresh guidelines meant for weekends and public holidays, the inter-district movement had been barred except for e-pass holders, and only shops dealing with essential commodities and services would be allowed to operate on all days of the week. Initially, the lockdown induced crash led to <keyword id="763912" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="attractive-valuations">attractive valuations</keyword> along with a global flood of liquidity and near zero interest rates in foreign markets. As a result, return on investment from <keyword id="10500884" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="several-asset-classes">several asset classes</keyword> except equities vaporised. Investors jumped from one assets class to the other, till the time even the US dollar became unviable due to the massive stimulus package. Accordingly, the funnelling of such funds into the emerging markets led to a net investment of over $22 billion into India's market till now in CY2020. Besides foreign funds, the domestic lockdown, the biggest in the world, flooded the <keyword id="35199" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="stock-markets">stock markets</keyword> with over 60 lakh new retail investors. Additionally, a considerable number enrolled through various schemes via the MF segment. Market watchers contend that these newbie investors saw the value in stocks beyond the pandemic induced slowdown and became the real beneficiaries of the up move. Till now in 2020, Indian markets witnessed FPI inflows of $22,281 million, which is 55% higher than the flows in the entire 2019 in USD terms. However, the domestic MF houses pulled out over ₹33,000 crore till November 2020. "Valuations are at 2SD (standard deviation) over the 10 year average, hence there is some caution on this front. However as long as interest rates continue to be zero or near zero across the globe, P/E ratios could keep expanding to levels not seen in the past," said Deepak Jasani, Head of Retail Research at HDFC Securities. In terms of purchase, FPIs initially preferred large cap stocks till October. Later on, they enlarged their purchases to include the mid and small cap segments. Sectorally, IT, pharma, banks, FMCG, metals, realty and oil &amp; gas stocks were bought the most by FPIs in this year. Apart from very high FPI inflows in 2020, large number of new investor registrations due to the Covid-19 pandemic has also contributed to the uprun in the market. "The huge stimulus rolled out by central banks across the developed world to tackle the pandemic in 2020 has certainly led to abundant liquidity. While it was expected that EMs would see strong FPI flows in 2020, the fact remains that only few emerging economies have seen such flows and India is one such country, especially given the slew of reforms undertaken in 2020," said LKP Securities' Head of Research, S. Ranganathan. "Having said that, it cannot be denied that lakhs of young first time equity investors have opened DEMAT accounts during 2020 and have invested into direct equities which is also a reflection of financialisation of savings," Ranganathan added. According to Gaurav Garg, Head of Research at <keyword id="1002876" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="CapitalVia-Global-Research">CapitalVia Global Research</keyword>: "Moving forward, FPIs may continue to concentrate in the Indian market for another 1-2 quarters. "The factors like low Covid-19 case count, expected vaccine in the first half of 2021, fear of valuations may go even higher and economic return to the growth trajectory are expected to potentially fuel more development in the emerging markets such as India."
